Hands down the best gelato in town. Be sure to try the mint chocolate flavour with real mint leafs and the basil walnut.

100% go here if you're in Monti. The gelato is tasty as heck but feels way less decadent than some of the other options out there. My wife is lactose intolerant so the labels showing the 'allergens' was super helpful, and it was the one place she was able to try a nocciola/hazelnut flavor. This WHOLE place is Senza Glutine!?? I have died and gone to heaven! I haven't had a gluten free cone (cono) in 5 years. It was so good I've been twice already. I don't think anything can beat the mint chip.. but try and see. I've never found ice chips in my gelato... not sure what others found. There's REAL, fresh mint leaves - not mint flavoring. Absolutely the most fresh (and not gooey) gelato you'll have. They even have vegan sorbetto options. Line moves quick and the owner is a sweet man who was always smiling and very welcoming. We were introduced to Fatamorgana by a friend who is partial to the little gelateria in Monti. The flavors are bright and sparkling and samples can be had aplenty. The Peach and Fig are very good in the summertime when they are in season though I always prefer sorbetti since it's a bit more tart and refreshing to my palate. Get a scoop and sit out on the bench and look out on the little piazza as you enjoy your cold treat and revel in being in Roma. read more

The gelato here is great. They had a lot of unique combinations, which I really liked. They put out crates with seat covers on top for some convenient seating in a nice open area to enjoy your gelato. Be warned, the hours on yelp are wrong! It says noon, but they actually opened at 2pm on the day that we went. We ended up wandering around to kill time until they opened. I would help update yelp if I could, but there were no operating hours on the outside of the store or on the website! read more

omg, i think this was our fave gelato on the trip! we were told to come here for true artisan gelato (none of the artificial stuff you find in the touristy areas). i got a cone w/ a sugar and dairy-free chocolate (which sounds horrible but was actually awesome), and the panacea flavor, which was mint (w/ real mint leaves!), almond milk, ginseng, and honey). a cone for 2 euros was delicious and awesome. husband got the strawberry and the basil, walnut and honey flavor, and he loved it. if you are a chocolate lover, you will really appreciate the fact that they have various single-origin chocolate flavors here. read more

Hands down, among the best gelato we had in Rome, Florence, or Venice. And we are a lot. Such interesting flavors, and the quality of the gelato is outstanding. Appears to be a local spot, charming area/neighborhood. It's not too far from the hotels nearest the train station. My sister used Yelp to find it and get us there, and it did not disappoint. Places to sit outside and a Roman nasoni where your can wash your hands or get a cool drink of water before going back in for seconds. I've had lots of gelato. I'm not sure why some reviews on here are calling this ice cream. It definitely has a slightly different texture than most gelatos (it wasn't gritty to me, but I know what people are referring to. Quite a pleasant texture to me) and you CANNOT beat the flavors. read more

This was both mine and my husbands's favorite gelato during our entire ten days in Italy. Portions were maybe a bit on the smaller side but well worth it. Every flavor we tried was creative, rich, and delicious. There is a nice area with benches to sit outside and Monti is a beautiful neighborhood to explore. The location was interesting, very busy with people outside and waiting in line. Best gelato ever. I was in Rome for a few days (yesterday) while touring Europe on my motorcycle, and after unsuccessfully finding any good gelato on my own, I turned to Yelp. As always, the people of yelp did not let me down. This tiny gelato shop was as good, if not better, than everyone has said. I decided to walk from my hostel towards the gelato place, and find some good food on the way. On our 3-week trip to Europe, we had gelato at least once a day and only 5-6 times would we call what we had omg-drop dead-once in a lifetime- amazing and Fatamorgana is definitely on that tier. It was good, but not that great. This place was right across the street from where we were staying. We decided to stop by one night after dinner. I shared two scoops with my boyfriend. The scoops were cheap, 2 for 2.5 euro, but they don't get you a lot. Usually the gelato is piled high, but he barely filled it over the cup. Gelato was good, but nothing incredible. They do have a lot of flavors, but again, not the best variety I've seen. Honestly, I think this is a skip. If I came back to Rome, I wouldn't be rushing back to this place. read more

Very delicious ice cream a little but hidden in Monti but yet very popular and well known. Two flavours cost 2,5€ which is medium expensive for Rome. Fatamorgana offers distinctive flavours such as Chestnut or Basil-Ricotta but also the all time favourites in a very good quality. What makes Fatamorgana special is their wide selection of anti-allergic flavours. No matter what you want, may it be lactose, gluten, sugar or whatever-free, Fatamorgana has it and it's all very well declared at the display. read more

Although it is tricky to find, this place certainly has a strong following. At 5:30pm on a Tuesday there was a line out the door. The gelato has some really interesting flavor combinations like lemon curd, a Gorgonzola combination, apple/cinnamon/hazelnut, and more basic flavors too. The ingredients are high quality and the final product is pretty good. I can't say it is the best I have ever had, but it is very good. The store is very small and I felt pressure to quickly order as you couldn't see what is in the case until you were next to order. I would advise looking at the menu online before you go in case it is busy when you visit. For the novelty this place is worth a try. read more

You can get gelato that's just as good but cheaper elsewhere. 3 scoops here is £3,50 and the scoops are small compared to other gelaterias I've gone to in Rome. I found most of the flavors to be a bit odd (I tried 7-8), even my old standbys of chocolate and coffee were a little harsh here. The gelato is clearly a great consistency - so creamy and smooth. I came here after dinner, and when I went in, the owner wasn't in the store front. He noticed me after about a minute, which was fine with me because I was still looking at all the flavors they offered there. There are definitely some very interesting flavors, and a lot of the fruit ones have alcohol infused (boo). I tried the pineapple ginger one and at first I thought I could just bear with the ginger flavor because I really love pineapple, but at the end of my bite, the ginger flavor became overwhelming. So, I opted for the mango and the pear, which I thought would be safe flavors. They were! The mango was delicious, very mango-y. The pear was also quite good, though the pear flavor was very, very light next to the bold mango flavor. I had to wait a bit for the mango flavor to leave my mouth before eating the pear, otherwise it just didn't really have much flavor. The gelato consistency here is somewhat strange; it's thick and sticky, almost as if you could take it out and stretch it. I also noticed that the gelato got put into my cup using an ice cream scooper as opposed to a spoon like most gelato places. Anyway, good gelato! It's near the Cavour metro station, so if you're nearby, come try it out! read more

We walked by this gelateria yesterday and noticed all the people sitting outside to enjoy a cool treat. Today we stopped by. There were a lot of flavours and some I hadn't seen before like roasted almond. We tried that, mango and watermelon (another unique flavour). The fruity ones were like sorbets and very good. This place was absolutely my favorite gelato place in Italy!! It is all natural and most flavored are gluten free!! (Which I need) Each flavor is labeled if it dose not have milk, eggs, wheat, and sugar. The cones are gluten free too!! I got the milk mint chip and it was amazing.
