Fatburger restaurants are, believe it or not, one of the best places in town for veggie burgers. And this particular store is probably the best of them. They have both Boca and Impossible, and now vegan cheese if you want it. The people who work here are sane, diligent, caring, polite, etc. The food always looks and tastes good. The store is kept neat, and the Coke Freestyle machine, which you need a PhD. in computer science to operate, is usually clean and in good repair and supply. Fatburger is a "soul" restaurant, and has some peculiarities, just as its lily-white sister In-N-Out does. For example, you can order onion rings by calling them "Homemade." They shout out when you tip them. If you eat in, they have bottles of flavored Tabasco sauces you can use. I recommend Chipotle Tabasco to put on your burger - so good! They will slap a fried egg on your burger for an extra charge, but I recommend to specify that it needs to be hard cooked, otherwise you might end up wearing the yolk as an arm bracelet. They have either "fat fries" (steak fries) or "skinny" (shoestring-style). I prefer fat. Joyfully, THEY DO NOT USE CANOLA OIL! But when you order fries, you have to tell them if you want them salted, specifying with either plain white or seasoning salt, otherwise they will leave them bland. I recommend that you tell THEM to salt the fries because at the moment they emerge from the oil, the salt crystals stick to them that way. You can only get one tub of dipping sauce or dressing with fries or homemade (onion rings) without paying extra, but they will give you all the mayonnaise and ketchup you need. Like In-N-Out, they have those yellow chiles to eat on the side, but they stopped putting them in plastic cups and have taken to putting them in rolled-up wax paper bags. You get two per bag, so request them knowing that. No pun intended, but the "hot tip" on how to eat those is to take a bite of burger and then snap off a whole "guerito" in your mouth with it and chew. RAW POWER! So after trying the Impossible Burger, I tried the Veggie Burger, which I expected to be more like a traditional garden patty. However, I was very surprised to discover that the texture and taste of this patty was on par with Beyond Meat and Impossible. The generous portion of relish, tomato, and lettuce helped make this a fantastic experience that had all the umami of a traditional beef burger, for a substantially lower price than their Impossible Burger option. I originally avoided this place on account of the fact that I generally don't want to eat at places with "fat" in the name, but we tried it on a whim one day and I was HOOKED. The great service started from the moment that we called in when the young lady answering the phone was sweet and repeated our order back to us THREE times to make sure that it was correct. We all, except for me, are VERY picky in our food is prepared. Yep, THEY are Sallies and I am Harry! HA!! My medium Fatburger was delicious and I loved the relish addition!! My only suggestion is to get the onions grilled - it was a great choice. The fat fries were AWESOME!! The carnivore ordered a large Fatburger that was a little overdone but was still delicious. The wings were great, but do not travel well as they lost their crispness and steamed as we drove home. NOT Fatburger fault. Finally, we had an Impossible Burger for our plant-based family member. Came for the Impossible Burger, was not disappointed! Somebody posted before that they were upset that the meat burgers and Impossible burgers were cooked on the same grill, but it looks like they now have a separate, smaller grill on the far right for the Impossible burgers. I sat at the counter and watched the whole thing. Impossible burgers are about $9 here, so it's not a cheap lunch. Also, the hype I kept hearing about the Impossible burger is it was so close to meat that it had its own version of "blood" and was super juicy etc. I personally was not looking forward to that and am pleased to say it was not that way at all. Love the food, don't appreciate the service. Typically place phone orders and feel the staff can be rude sometimes. Last phone order I forgot what type of plant based meat is offered. I asked for a beyond burger and the worker simply said they did not have beyond burgers. He did not try to assist me by telling me what type of plant based options they carried. I had to tell him I wanted whichever option they had; that I forgot the name. Today I called in for a phone order. Whoever answered forgot about me on the phone. I hung up and tried calling back. Phone was off the hook for 15 minutes. Luckily I learned there is an online order option. Not posting this review to complain. Trying to give honest feedback with hopes that the manager of this store sees and addresses these issues with his or her workers. I think a reminder on proper customer service is overdue (as a frequent customer this past year) and a better phone system needs to be put in place. read more

I'm a huge burger lover and have tried a great deal of burgers from all different types of fast-food joints as well as gourmet burgers. I've got to say from my over 10 year experience of eating, comparing and contrasting burgers, Fat Burger is one of the worse ones I've had. At least this branch in Pasadena, I haven't tried other branches. I was indulged to make this review after my second visit. The first visit I had similar thoughts but gave them some benefit of the doubt that maybe the cooks there were just having a bad day. However, after having it for the second time, I've come to the conclusion that this place is just not really good. I'll go a bit into the Burgers. The first thing I noticed about the Burger was that the Buns seemed a tad too thick for the ratio of meat. The meat patty is average but the type of buns used is dryer than I'm used to and feel very dense. So with each bite it feels like you're tearing off a huge chunk of hotdog bun meat to a smaller ratio of meat. The meat also tasted subpar to average. Actually a bit chewy, and flavorless at best. The Lettuce and condiments I have no issues with, but there is an abundance of oil that sits within the burger, melts into the buns the longer you're holding it, surprisingly though all of this does not make the buns taste any less dryer. There's also this really weird after-taste in the burger that tastes synthetic, almost like plastic. I can't really describe the flavor but it did make me gag slightly and made the rest of the eating experience not very fun. This last visit was one of the few times where I've actually put aside the burger to toss it because it was worse in my mouth than it would be in the trash. When a Carl's Jr, 3 dollar burger tastes better than a Double Patty Fat Burger, there's an issue. At least I'm actually enjoying eating a Famous Star as sloppily as it is thrown together. The issue also comes in after eating it. I felt extremely unfulfilled, and a lot worse than before I had the burger. Slightly disgusting, but also not having enjoyed that Burger at all. How I see it, if you're going to clog your arteries and eat fast food, you might as well get something remotely positive from it, such as a short good experience of flavor, or a minor dopamine rush from the excess salt. I got none of that from this Burger. It felt like matter that I was just feeding my body, and slightly worse than that. Matter that tasted kind of bad... that would eventually clog my arteries. Not worth at all. I ordered the "meal" both times I've been here and both times I was severely disappointed. The fries taste worse than McDonald's soggy fries that you've left out for 4 hours. They actually taste stale! Even ketchup can't mask the dryness of the fries! There is a slight traditional flavor to the fries but the rest of the fries taste like sticks of batter that's been fried for too long. There is crunch to them, but in the bad way. They crumble like dust in an oven. Also the Pepsi is probably the worst Pepsi I've ever had. I don't understand how you screw up soda? It's literally from a machine. Maybe it just hasn't been loaded up properly but I've had this same issue both times I've been there. The Pepsi is actually flat, no carbonation. It's equivalent to soda that's been left out for an entire day. So either someone isn't loading up the machine properly or the machine is broken! At the end of the day, it takes a lot for me to come onto Yelp to write a review but this place was distasteful enough for me to perhaps warn others from this place. Some of these critiques are not difficult to solve, which makes me question the effort of the establishment. It takes a tremendous lack of effort to produce "food" that tastes this bad. I would not be surprised if the people who worked here were super unenthused about their work/product as it is directly reflected in their Burgers. In conclusion, if you're looking for a Good Burger joint, go across the street where there's a Chick-Fil-A, they've never been a problem and have way better quality control. Or go to McDonald's. McDonald's is still superior if you're looking for a late night snack, as it can at least still taste decent half of the time. Fat Burger though? Button down the hatches because you're going to be having a negative experience if you try this place. It isn't the worst I've had for sure, but it is pretty bad. I know it is a bit cruel to be this brutally honest but it is also a bit insulting to the customer that food like this is being served period. I'm not trying to be an elitist but most people would be able to tell this place is not even trying. read more

Wanted a burger for lunch and this place just opened so we gave it a try. Walked right in, looked over the menu and placed our order. It's small so sitting might be limited so I recommend not going during the lunch rush. We were lucky to get a table for four. The Original Burger - 1/3 lb burger with everything and when I say everything I mean Everything. It came with Onions, lettuce pickles, mayo, tomato, relish, cheese and mustard. Burger was cooked medium and was cooked perfectly and juicy. What I found a little weird and would not get again would be the relish. The relish was not needed on this burger and would not get the relish again. Other then that the burger was good. Onion Rings - The onion rings were home made and good. Not to much batter and nice and crispy. Dunk them in some ketchup and take a bite. Great onion rings! Drink - I had a regular drink and they have that coke machine that let's you pick the soda and the flavor. It is awesome, I love these things. I had cherry coke then the next refile I had vanilla coke. A variety every time you refill. I will definitely be coming back to Fatburger sooner as appose to later. read more

Oh man, a new fatburger in Pasadena!!! Haven't had it in years since there's not too many around anymore. Shoot, I'm both happy there's one here and I'm not...it just makes it harder to choose between burger places in Pasadena. Fatburger is definitely in the top 3 categories for burgers ( in n out and super burger). Staff was friendly, even if it's a simple "how's your day going so far?" Instead of just going through the motions and taking my order, at least it was small talk. Ordered the xxl burger and it was massive! Nearly ordered the xxxl burger which would have had 3 humongous patties. Of course I had to crown my burger with an egg. Also got their fat fries, my favorite. Burger was big and delicious. Was kind of happy this place was opening up, but this meal did not meet my joy for the date. Joy was stood up. I ordered the Western BBQ Fatburger. This burger came out dry. No BBQ sauce, no mayo, no nothing. Typically this style of burger comes with some type of BBQ sauce you would think... but it didn't. This was a very mediocre, dry burger. Ordered some onion rings and they were ok, but they have some of the worst ranch dressing known to man. Taste like krap. There's nothing fresh about it. Ruined the onion ring experience. Get some real ranch ASAP! Wifey ordered a double burger with bacon, cheese, egg, mayo and mustard. It was better than mine, but they need to mellow out on the pepper. Crazy over seasoned meat. She goes back. Comes out with a bag, and says here's #270. I get home, it says #271 on the bag, she just handed me back the same order I told her it wasn't. She knew it was the wrong order! These employees are really rude. The level of rudeness was just simple uncalled forZ Zero customer service skills. I asked for a gluten free bun and she didn't hear me because the worker kept talking over me asking if that's all or if I'm done. I chalked it up to not being able to hear because of the mask too and loud music. I get the receipt and saw that it wasn't on my order because the usually charge extra for it.
