Not really a tea person (had to preface that before I got started too much). The wife and I were out with a friend and she decided that after dinner we should go for some tea... she wanted to go here... so we did. She had a couple of macarons (salted caramel, and pistachio), and a fruity black tea... I had a vanilla rooibos tea, and the friend had a london fog. I've been here like twice and both times it was purely just take out because I was either on the go or there was just no seats. Man it's a busy location and they have 5 staffs behind the counter, not counting the ones in the back maybe cooking. I have to say I really like their ham and cheese croissants (majority of the stars comes from this). Though i believe they put a lot of butter in it because by the time I got home the whole paper bag was almost clear because of the oil that was transferring from the pastry onto the bag. But ya, all good food aren't necessary healthy for you haha. I've also had their macarons the last 2 times I've been and I have to say it's pretty good but nothing different from other places I've been. Though they have this weird system where you have to walk to the back and pay first before you go get your macarons. When i handed the receipt to the person behind the counter he didn't even bother to look and asked how many i wanted. Man, I could have said 3 when i only paid for like 1 or 2. But ya... So, serve was kinda meh. I felt like I barely got any because they just grabbed the pastry for me with barely a smile at me. I didn't really feel welcome but i don't expect much cause i was really just grabbing and going. Overall, I would still come back but not sure if I would sit down for their service when I didn't feel welcoming to begin with. It's funny to sit in such a beautiful place and then accidentally drop an F****. * * * As I sat down with my number waiting to receive my food I over heard someone order a cappuccino for here. Instantly I new I now had to stock the bar like a drug addict waiting for its fix because the battle was on for me to get my cappuccino - I was here first after all. Standing close to the bar holding my bag but awkwardly next to the wall, where I had my food and table, I waited. Stealth was key. I noticed the barista taping the milky foam and new my drink was up. Right as she put the coffee down and called out "Small cappuccino for here." I had already snatched it and started to walk away. After two steps a man walked up, pointed at my coffee and said "You ordered a Cappuccino for here?" I nodded with a triumphant grin and walked off into the cafe. The End. read more

Delicious desserts and a great cappuccino. It's very busy and can be difficult to get a seat. The interior is very sleek and modern. Unfortunately Faubourg lost points because my boyfriend found a hair in his cake, and when I went up to the counter with the cake and offending hair, the girl at the counter took it, and handed it off to one of the other girls that worked there for her to get a new one without one word to me. It was very nice that we were given another cake for free but we were offered no apology and the girl who initially took the cake from me seemed rather annoyed that I had gone up to her with it. read more

Waited for the order and brought it to table by myself. The guy who was preparing my order was not friendly at all. I also cleaned up the table when we were leaving. I have a major love of sweets, pastries in particular. Faubourg satisfied my sweet tooth, but was nothing spectacular. I tried a macaron (featured flavour - passion fruit), which was just ok. Macarons are not usually my 1st choice when I do decide to indulge, but when at a French bakery I like to at least try one to gauge their overall abilities. That being said, I have tried many, and this was not one of the best. (Ladurée in NYC holds that honour!) Also had the featured cake which was described as a chocolate brownie w/ earl grey mousse & lemon. In reality it was a bland chocolate sponge cake topped w/ a yummy (albeit subtle in the earl grey flavour) mousse w/ a dollop of lemon curd in the centre. Again, ok but forgettable. Feature croissant was chocolate cherry and was good, but a bit too chewy & seriously lacking in chocolate bits. Lots of cherries though. Last, was (I forget the name) but a chocolate filled bread (pain au chocolat maybe? But not a croissant). Looked like a soft pretzel stick, but was lighter. Had coarse sugar bits sprinkled on top, and again not enough chocolate. Bread/chocolate ratio was off. The room is pretty, but a bit ostentatious. Marble table tops, crystal chandeliers. A bit over the top, but nice if you're into that sort of thing. Staff were friendly, particularly the young guy with an (Aussie?) accent. Overall, not worth the splurge in calories. Wouldn't avoid going back, but certainly wouldn't go out of my way either. read more

Team Tastic was the first one through the doors at 7AM and we ordered every flavour of macaron available from the get-go. This included: Jasmine Tea, Grape, Lavender Earl Grey, Salted Butter Caramel, Tahitian Vanilla, Signature Faubourg, Strawberry Black Pepper, Cappuccino, Raspberry Rose, Dark Chocolate Yes there were a ton of macarons, but not all of them were happy dreams. My top 3 go to the Raspberry Rose, the Signature Faubourg, and the Cappucino. Both the Raspberry Rose and the Signature Faubourg (lemon tart-esque) came with a sour citrus burst in their filling which was a nice counter to the sweetness. In addition, Cappucino with its bitter coffee essence also held its own and afterwards my mouth tasted just like the coffee I also ordered. The coffee was a standard dark roast and helped wake me up at such an early hour for macarons. This coffee goes well with a side of The Province. While I think it's hard to hate macarons, if I had to choose some bottom feeders I would elect the Dark Chocolate and the Strawberry Black Pepper for that honour. The Dark Chocolate was too sweet for my poor teeth so I'd recommend that for someone with an extreme sweet tooth. I didn't taste much of the black pepper in the strawberry and I didn't understand how the combination was supposed to work. I'll need more research but in the heat of the moment, these were a "meh" compared to the other fantastic flavours. read more

I ordered a grande black coffee and a breakfast croissant. I needed caffeine and some food to keep me going. I didn't require, or expect, for it to be so delicious. Both my coffee and breakfast sandwich were exquisite. The flavor of the coffee was unique and bold- the best ever. The croissant was flakey, and perfect. It had the best combination of ham, tomato, egg, and mayonnaise. I am only here for a week, but I will be sure to be back again and again! read more

Tried their lavender black tea latte and was disappointed. I did not taste the lavender aroma, not even the black tea (just tasted like luke warm milk). Definitely not worth $5.10 plus tax. Their pastries are also mediocre, nothing surprising (there are better places like Terra Breads or Thomas haas). The cashiers look down on you unless you're high class and speak French. The interior is very nice but seriously never coming back. read more

I know there is a Faubourg in Kerrisdale but since I don't go to that part of Vancouver often, I was glad that one opened up in downtown, or so I thought... Tiramisu: there is a reason the lady fingers are soaked in espresso. It is to make them moist and to layer them in between egg yolks and mascarpone. Tiramisu is a layered dessert after all. At Faubourg the lady fingers are around the cake itself. I know they probably wanted to make their own rendition of it but does this make sense to you? Because it doesn't to me. This equated in a completely bland chocolate cake with some mascarpone and brittle cookies. I never knew why French bakeries tried their hand at Italian desserts anyway. Chocolate decadent: I can only say that this is a generic chocolate cake. No rich, decadent chocolate flavour as the name denotes. Berry bread pudding: I wouldn't call this bread pudding. It's in the shape of a muffin and not only that but it was insanely dense and lacked any sort of distinguishable flavour. There were no croissants when I went. Friendly staff but they don't know anything. There is a reason why *good* restaurants or bakeries are successful--especially new ones. Staff are made to try every single thing on the menu. How is someone supposed to buy something new if they don't know what it tastes like? The woman could not describe any of the 5 things I asked about and looked around as if someone else would come to her aid. All-in-all the space is beautiful and stream-lined, it would be a great place to sit on the patio, chat and have a cappuccino (if it's good of course). However if someone were looking for a French bakery in downtown, I would send them to Thierry (and it's even not my fav). If someone wanted a $5 tiramisu I would send them to Whole Foods where you will get an *actual* tiramisu and at 3x the size. I want my $17 back please! This is my favorite French pastry shop every time I'm in town. Today I was here for a morning late breakfast around 10 am. There was a great selection of croissants and sweet and savory breads and baguette sandwiches. My selections today were London Fog tea, ham and cheese croissant, and chocolate eclairs and macarons to go. Also bought Madeleines for my little one. The croissant was amazing crisp and buttery with the right amount of dough and filling. My macarons selection today was chocolate, butter caramel, Faubourg, Lavender earl grey, strawberry, cappuccino, rosemary grapefruit, banana flambé. They always have a great selection of macarons and the flavours are new and exciting. The chocolate eclairs were divine. The quality is fresh and consistent. Nice tables inside and outside the cafe and washroom has a change table for little ones. Great place to sit and relax for quick breakfast and lunch and anything in between. This place is a must see for any French bakery and pastry fan and it hits the mark every time. read more

Stopped in for a macaron and was very pleased with the ambiance and service. This location is brand-spanking new - they were unwrapping new patio bistro sets when I visited. This new location of Faubourg is a welcome, legitimate threat to tired Thierry, which is situated only a few hundred meters away. Faubourg's macarons are light, crispy but soft, sweet but not cloying, whereas Thierry's are often chewy, too sugary and flat-tasting. The interior is sparkling, bright and fresh-looking and the staff are friendly and less frazzled than Thierry's worker bees, who are often hurried and can sometimes come off as (rightfully) exasperated with downtown's fussy, self-important foodies. So happy that Faubourg is now downtown and I can't wait for my next macaron! read more

I will give 3 stars soley on macarons. Everything else is actually 2. Very catchy orange umbrella draws you in and it's cute inside. Nicely divided into sections so you get a bit of privacy. Nice patio perfect for people watch. Beautiful long table in the middle underneath two romantic chandelier. Coffee is not bad, it has enough kick to be served with buttery savories. Unfortunately the good things end there. When I walked in a few people were walking near the counter to check out the goodies. There are minimum 4 people behind the ciunter each w their head down doing something or focused on tye espresso that no one engages the patrons! I took my time and eventually made my decision which at that point there was no one waiting to be acknowledged. Still no greeting nor a smile. One guy is working on croissant batch nervously looking over my direction but avoids my eyes. The other ones are still doing their own thing. At that point I am already annoyed and tempted to walk out but stayed because being a Yelper I have to try a new place right y'all?? Finally someone comes and she doesn't even smile and looks rather tired. She takes my choices mechanically. No apologies for someone who looks obviously unhappy. I pay and off I go sit down still unsatisfied. To add to that I didn't like my croissant either. It is more doughy than buttery and flaky. Macarons are winners! Unless I am doing take out for macarons I won't be coming back here. read more

We tried the Park Royal location recently. What a let-down. The bread tasted nothing like a real French baguette. Worse, it was actually tough and clearly day-old! The croissants are not much different that what you'd find at Save-On-Foods, except they are around 5 times the price! Anyone who's been to France and knows what authentic croissants are like will be disappointed. read more

Their Tea is excellent!!! Marriage Freres brand which is truly French... their sweets and breads are made with conventional flour and sugar which is GMO so what they serve is not really what the true French would serve... read more

The first thing you notice when you walk on the street is the window display of very nice picture perfect desserts that look like a Chatelaine magazine cover. Just by looking at the pastries I could feel my eyes consuming the calories that would show up on my thighs a week later. A museum of sugary perfection. The pastries look so perfect that I would be afraid to eat it right away. Of course they had macaroons, the best pastry in the world. Very colorful gluten free sandwich treats in a variety of flavors including caramel blue cheese (yes you heard me). They are a bit $$$, however, managed to walk away with something little to treat myself. I feel sorry for those who went to the box chain coffee stores and missed out on this gem (you know who you are). Very friendly costumer service. read more

We checked this place place out for breakfast, it has very beautiful pastries, they had a very nice welcoming patio which looked great for people watching, but it was too cold to check it out. I tried their pistachio croissant, they warmed it in the oven just before serving, very crunchy, tasty, with enough filling. I really enjoyed that. It is a little pricey, but worth a try. read more

Their coffees (lattes, americanos, etc.) suck but their pastries can be good depending on what you get. Macarons are average. Go for the classic flavours like salted caramel, chocolate, signature (think its passionfruit -yellow in colour). Their feature croissants, pastries and tarts can be good. It is often hit or miss. A pity because they have very nice interiors. I recommend going to Thierry instead if you're downtown. Or the caffe artigiano right next door for coffee. read more

This review is for both the downtown and the Kerrisdale locations. I was quite excited to try Faubourg, as it's quite difficult to find French pastries in Vancouver that are anything like what you can find in, well, France. As it stands, the pastries here were fine -- not good, not terrible, just okay. What was very memorable, however, was the awful service at both locations. I was at the Kerrisdale location when it wasn't that busy. I was first spoken to by a very bored and disinterested woman who did not get all of my order together. I then spoke to a young man further down the line who barked at me impatiently and epitomized the words "snotty attitude" -- he was so busy being rude to me that he couldn't be bothered to listen to me about my order, but snapped that he knew what I wanted. I left the store, got a feeling that given how much attitude I was getting that they probably hadn't got it right, and checked my order. Of course, it was wrong. I went back and, without any apology or eye contact or anything other than rushed irritation, they "fixed" my order. At the downtown location, I called to check and see if they still had sandwiches available at 2 pm and the woman on the phone huffed and hung up on me. I don't know why people would go out of their way to be so obnoxious. And, after speaking with a couple of my friends, they echoed my complaints: "Ugh, I don't go there because the people there are so rude!" Why go to Faubourg for mediocre food and terrible service when you could go to Thierry or Thomas Haas or ANY other bakery in Vancouver where people are, I don't know, kinda polite? read more

The pastries are simple. Nothing too fancy. I came here because I heard they have Macarons. I tried three of them and thought they were alright. The Macarons were rather small in diameter and were a bit hard. Incredibly sweet as well. Often I find most establishments that bake the Macaron make them too sweet. The coffee wasn't outstanding either. I decided to try the Americano. Too bitter for my taste. Nicely served though. Staff are super friendly and sweet. They greet you with warm smiles and engage in conversation. They're knowledgeable with all the food and drinks they have to offer, so that was a plus. The interior is superbly clean and classy. Everyone who comes in seem to be very nice and come simply to relax with friends. A lot of people who came in while I was there came from work. Some people were reading newspapers, novels, or magazines. Others were on their laptops or basking outside on the outdoor patio under the sunshine. Even though the interior may appear classy, you don't have to dress that way. Patrons come in dressed in different styles - casual, work, formal, etc. People just want to come here to enjoy a light snack and rest. It's a lovely place. read more

This place is ok. I had the quiche which was kind of so-so, a really nice Roiboos tea, served in a teapot and teacup, a macaroon which was pretty good and an americano which was good too. They have wifi at this location. We sat and worked for an hour or two. It's not really the best environment for working but no one gives you a hard time if you are ordering drinks and not just sitting around for free. read more
