Faust is amazing!! I was hesitant to come since it's a chain (there's a Faust salon in Capitola and Santa Cruz), but I'm so glad I took a chance. This Faust has incredible talent! Marissa bleaches my hair and she is able to get it pale enough to tone white!! Before coming here I had heard "Your hair is just too dark" and other words of discouragement. I cannot stress enough how incredible it is that Marissa can take my hair to this level, I've been to numerous salons in Santa Cruz since coming to college and I have always wanted my hair this light; unfortunately most salons weren't able to take me there thus I ended up with random hair colors. Come here if you want a bleach job done right! Additionally, Anna recently did my make up for my graduation photos and it looks great! She really does an excellent job and I'm so glad I decided to go to her instead of trying to do it myself since the photos will be a lasting memory. read more

Just had my first cut with Lisa after seeing my former stylist for 17 years until he retired. Needless to say, I was a bit anxious about trying someone new. She put me at ease right away and proceeded to give me an expert cut that put all my first-timer fears to rest. You can tell she's got excellent skills, and she takes her time to listen and then pay careful attention to each snip as she goes. I walked out with exactly the style I was envisioning! I have had two amazing experiences at Faust! The first was a cut and color with Gina. Gina took her time and really made sure she understood what I wanted and then she executed it PERFECTLY! I have never been so happy with my hair in my life. If you are blonde and get highlights do yourself a favor and go see Gina! My second great experience was with Anna who did my hair and makeup for my bridal shower. Anna worked quickly but carefully and made me feel so relaxed while I was there. She did a beautiful low updo and very natural looking makeup which lasted ALL day. Buyer Beware. I really wanted to like this place. The girls here are great, very sweet and friendly and personable. The salon is professional, but the pricing is outrageous. I chose this salon for wedding hair and make-up basically because the other vendors I contacted in the area didn't call me back. I called Faust and had a great conversation with Anna; she told me Bridal hair ran $185 and bridal makeup was $140, but these prices included a trial run for hair and trial run for make-up. It seemed a bit pricey at a grand total of $325, but I committed. I went in for my trial day and we figured out a simple hair style with the stylist. The style was beautiful and very simple; definitely not worth $185 (+ tip) but I had committed and I do keep my promises and appointments. I sat with Anna for my trial make-up. Make-up turned out fine, not great, but fine. I communicated with her that I was hoping for a little glamor, a touch of special. We talked and she suggested and we changed a few things but at the end of it all, I looked like myself on a good "no-foundation-necessary" makeup week day. Not quite the wedding-day-glamour I was hoping for. As I was about to leave I was told I needed to pay half of the bridal package. No problem, I handed over my card and was charged not only half of the $325, but an additional $70 on top of it. Suddenly, it seems I have to pay for my trial makeup which is now NOT included in the trial run. Oh, and let's not forget the tips (plural). So the new make-up total is $70 for my trial session, then another $140 due on my wedding day. I would never have booked this unnecessary trial make-up run if it was costing me an additional $70 on top of all the other wedding expenses, which I was meticulously tracking with every vendor we contracted with. So now for bridal make-up I'm paying out a whopping $210. And let's not forget the additional $185 for hair either. This now brings my bridal package to a grand total of $395 for simple hair and normal-ish make-up.... not including tips. Keep in mind there is no printed pricing for services offered anywhere - not in the salon nor in the website. So you have no supporting documentation to back-up what you were initial told during phone conversations. I balked at the expense, but at this point the wedding is 5 days away. I felt had no other option but to pay the fee and show up on the big day. Fast forward to my wedding day. The absolute final straw which very nearly ruined my wedding day was that at the end of all the hair and make-up sessions for myself and my bridesmaids at Faust, we ended up leaving the salon over an hour and a half late, which had me rushing like mad to arrive for my own wedding ceremony on time with my dress and all reception supplies in tow, which I had to rush back to the hotel for before heading out to the venue. This was by FAR the most stressful part of my wedding day and the fact which I have trouble forgiving the most; we were assured we would have plenty of time for all our appointments to be completed and have a couple hours left for pre-wedding tasks and duties. Try 25 minutes. And the kicker? I was offered 10% off my next service there if I posted a favorable yelp review. read more

After reading some awesome reviews I decided to get a haircut here. I called in and got an appointment with Paola within a half an hour of calling, so I was stoked. The staff was very courteous and I felt hopeful. I came armed with photos and was pretty specific about what I wanted. Paola was very sweet and gave an awesome head massage with shampoo but halfway through the cut let me know her son was waiting at his school with no one to pick him up and that the school was calling. I let her know I understood and that I would wait if she needed to make a phone call and make arrangements for him. She seemed very rushed, and then she let me know her daughter needed to be picked up as well at three. Uumm... I can empathize with having to work and juggling kids but I also felt like I was paying on the higher end for a cut and that I was rushed and my cut came out looking unfinished. I am bummed with the haircut and the lack of professionalism. I definitely don't feel like I got a $65 haircut. Maybe I caught her on a bad day, I'm sure she's awesome when she's focused on her client but it was not that day for me! My search for the perfect stylist continues..... read more

I wanted to like this salon since it is so close to my home. However, I don't think I could recommend this salon to anyone. The young lady that cut and colored my hair was nice but I had to have her re-color my hair. It still looked awful after the re-color. I received a facial and I really like the way it turned out. She was the saving grace for this salon. The young lady that was working the cashier station was very difficult to work with. She rang me up for product I did not buy. If I had not looked at my receipt carefully I would not have noticed. When I went back in the salon to speak with her about it she was very rude. She did not know how to reverse the charges so I had to stand there for over 30 minutes while someone helped her. She continued to take customers leaving me standing there waiting on her to assist me. read more

I'm really bummed about not loving this salon. It is close to my work. The stylist I used is super nice and did a great job on my hair but both times I have left I felt like I paid more than I ever had before and I've been to Salon's all over the Bay Area. Because the last salon I frequented was in Pleasanton, I asked a few of my friends that work on "the other side of the hill" and they confirmed that those prices are not close to what I would pay in even Palo Alto. First time I got a new color, a few foils on the top, and a hair cut for $220 plus they talked me into buying $100 of product. Kind of the normal new salon stuff... The second time I was charged $120 for a full color root touch up,. No foils, no hair cut. I'm going to another salon next time. I love the color but I'm sure that I can find similar service for a more reasonable price. read more

i love Emily and Anna! They were more than accommodating when i told them we needed 6 bridal hair appointments before noon on a Sunday (for myself and all of my bridesmaids and family). All the girls looked fab! And Emily did an AMAZING job on my hair -- seriously beyond what i even imagined. i wish i lived in the area so i could make her my regular hairdresser! And anna did a truly remarkable job on my makeup. i've never had my makeup done with such attention and precision, and she really listened to what i wanted. she has techniques like ive never seen! I'm super-neurotic (when i leave a salon i always immediately want to 'fix' the parts i dont like) but i didnt want to touch my hair or make up at all the entire day! i seriously wish i could drive down from the East Bay for every haircut and special occasion. read more

I see Marissa for all my hair needs- cut, style, color, treatments, etc, and she rocks all of it. She has always been able to figure out and do exactly what I wanted. I was welcomed instantly with happy faces and friendly staff. Walking in.. My hair was 3 different colors (oops.. My own fault) and I wanted to go to my natural brown/blonde hair. I walked by this salon right before my dentist appointment on Thursday and immediately notice a lovely hairstyle and woman at that! "Her hair is hot, me gusto mucho!!!", I told my ever so helpful friend.. We continued onto my appt for an dental appt. and would be about an hour. I have been to this salon twice now and Marissa has been fabulous each time cutting and coloring my hair. The products she uses leaves my hair looking great, lasts longer and I have never received so many compliments about my hair. I wear my hair long and she really listens regarding how much (or rather little) to cut and her knowledge of hair/color/cuts is evident. The conversation and silence is never awkward. She picks up on what I seem to need. I asked her to show me how to style my haircut and she was great in her instructions and demonstrations. At my first visit I was given some coupons to pass to friends and I would also receive discount if redeemed. I liked that. The atmosphere is very comfortable and professional and I feel like I am a very important client from the moment I step into the salon. It is a relaxing experience and I look forward to my appointments. I was even offered to be picked up when I was having car problems. That is great service. The boyfriend and I stopped in for haircuts last week, and Lisa did a fantastic job! She expertly styled both my super fine short hair, and my boyfriend's thick, curly locks. I loved that she took the time to really go over how I wanted the cut to look, she had lots of great ideas about what would make me look my best. I got SO many compliments on my cut at the wedding we attended the next day. The boyfriend looks handsome, as always, but this is one of the first haircuts that he really loves. Lisa patiently walked me though my first experience coloring my hair, and made me feel totally at ease. While I was nervous to color my virgin hair, I LOVE the results, and Lisa totally empowered me to go bold. I want to start this off by saying the owner Anna and the stylist were both very nice. I found Faust on Yelp after my regular go to place hadn't done the best job with my haircut. It was unmanageable and honestly not my style. I explained to Anna the owner what I needed was someone super comfortable with short hair and what I was unhappy with. She recommended a stylist that was supposed to a whiz with short hair and I made an appointment for today. I am very disappointed in my experience. The girl, don't get me wrong is VERY kind and sweet but I felt the whole time she lacked a great deal of confidence, which made me nervous. After cutting for awhile she showed me the back. Basically I had come in with a bob which doesn't work for my hair AT ALL, and I had asked her to cut the back into an A-line with texture and to pull some of my bulk forward to create heavier bangs. When she handed me the mirror I basically just had a shorter bob. I asked if she could please texture the back so she dried my hair to do so. Usually when I get my hair blown out at a salon its smooth and shiny. She felt so afraid to grab my hair that there was no tension so it came out frizzy with fly aways and wave. She then proceeds to texture the back with her trimmers rather then texturing scissors which I found odd but whatever. She shows me again and it still looks like a bob. When I comment on this she says its probably the way she styled it. So I ask her to flat iron it. She is very sweet so says no problem...except when she starts flat ironing it shes flipping the ends up a la Jennifer Aniston in the first season of friends. And its still frizzy and totally without any style and at this point I think there is a joke being played on me. And then I tell her lets not do anything else to it. I was totally done and needed to get out of there. I'm very bummed. I live on the mountain and was really hoping I would have a place to go to here. But alas, it was not meant to be. I honestly feel like the owner didn't make a recommendation based on my needs, rather was filling a space in the book. Now I should say this..when I got home I wet my hair and styled it myself. The cut isn't horrible. Its not exactly what I wanted but I can make due. The two star rating is just about the overall experience. I feel like when you go to a salon you should feel like you are in capable hands and you walk out of there feeling like you want to go out and show off your look. I saw Emily Johnston for a crisis color correction back in January. exceeding my expectations, She brought my hair from a dark yellow toner to an icy blonde. I've been in the industry for a long time now, and my peeve in hair salons are stylist who suffer from delusions of grandeur, not here!! Emilys chair side manner is professional yet humble, and still hip. Her skillzzz are what really put me at ease, explaining first how she would tackle my hair, getting my understanding, so I could have a realistic expectation of what one could expect with my over processed, damaged, sad, yellow hair (wouldn't be surprised if other stylists turned me away due to the severity of the situation). Then finally, her precision execution!! no surprises. I can't recommend Emily enough! My whole experience with Faust Scott's valley from start to finish was perf. Emily gave me an amazing cut. My hair texture changed since I became 50-ish. It's very fine and I needed a cut that worked with all my hair issues. Emily took the time to really listen to my concerns, wants & needs and gave me the best cut I've had in a very long time.
