I just finished a delicious dinner at feather and wedge. It was my last night in town and i wanted to have a really lovely meal so my party walked in to see if we could be seated at around 5:30 despite not having a reservation. I believe it was the owner who was incredibly accommodating and immediately put together a table outside since he was fully booked inside for the night. It was no issue though since we had a fire burning to keep us warm. Our server was really lovely and served us right away. We ordered bread and the charcuterie board which was really good. In the middle of our meal, it started to thunder and storm. The entire team worked together to get us and three other tables outside under an awning and made sure we were all well accommodated and cared for despite the weather circumstances. My chicken dish came out and I could hardly care about the rain because it tasted SO good. Unfortunately it really started to pour so we ordered our apple crisp dessert to go and it was worth it. The drinks were also good; i loved the blondein! What could have been a really bad night due to the rain turned out to be one of the best meals I've had in Rockport thanks to the really great customer service we experienced tonight. This restaurant has a wonderful location, very close to the popular tourist area of Rockport and the music hall. The standard, simple dishes--bolognese, roast chicken--were superb. The more experimental dishes--lobster risotto, eggplant linguini--didn't really come together, and were disappointing. The menu changes daily. Thought we would try some place new for our anniversary and liked the recent menu on the website so we took a shot. Top to bottom, everything was amazing. The waitress asked what we were thinking for our entrees when we ordered our drinks. We weren't really ready to order, but she indicated that the order was not set in stone, so we placed something. She said she would "pace us"...we have had meals in many truly fine restaurants and have never been told this, but we assumed she would check back with us on the order. After drinks and a charcuterie board, we requested to see the menu again. She brought it over and I asked a question about the fish special that I thought I had tentatively ordered. She left the menu with us. We discussed changing both of our original orders between ourselves, but the next thing we knew, they came out! The "Spicy" eggplant pasta was bland, (both of us agreed) and the $46 Halibut special was over cooked and totally inedible. Both went back to the kitchen uneaten. Based on the review above, the Lobster Risotto I was going to change to wouldn't have been any better. Although the eggplant dish was taken off the bill, it was, overall, a truly disappointing way to spend $150. We did take the time to share with the owner, but he really didn't seem to care although he expressed the standard laments. After all, by 530, the place was booked. The cherry on the "melted sundae"was the chirpy hostess's insincere "Have a good night!" She had totally eavesdropped on my comments to the owner and should have just kept her mouth shut. read more

F&W was recommended by two friends in Concord, MA. My friend and I went there this week and had a wonderful meal! The food was fabulous! I had the swordfish and my friend had the salmon. Both were delicious. Our waitress was the best. Plus the atmosphere was lively and so friendly. We chatted with the couple at the next table and joked with a couple of other patrons. i have never been inspired to write a restaurant review in my entire life but this place was fucking unbelievable. I was skeptical at first seeing a 30$ Bolognese pasta. Just regular ass bucatini bolognese nothing spectacular about it. The portion size was fucking ridiculous, which especially sucked because i hate wasting food but it was simply inedible. I don't know how one comes to the conclusion that bolognese sauce is supposed to be pinkish flavorless milk poured over chunks of ground beef and can find work as a chef. Also the bucatini was undercooked. It looked so gross that i'm genuinely considering going vegetarian because i hate the fact that a creature died in order for this monstrosity to be created. And the one vegetarian dish on the menu was eggplant parmesan .......... What was served was a slice of eggplant with canned tomato puree and a dusting of cheese on top. I mean there was eggplant and there was parm and a couple leaves of lettuce on the side. I guess it doesn't always come with pasta but for the price it was a little bit shocking. Another thing. The charcuterie was alright, but the olives were directly on the board. They were just kinda rollin around on there and getting olive juice on everything... whatever but it probably wouldn't have been hard to put them in a small bowl. And the mocktail was purely revolting. No type of alcohol would have saved it. Wasn't mine though. can't really complain. My fiancé and I got engaged the night we had a romantic dinner planned at "Feather & Wedge" and the entire staff pulled out all the stops to make our night feel truly special. From having a bottle of Champagne ready for us, to giving us an incredible table, we had a magical evening. The bonny bread is always amazing, as well as their prime rib. If you're planning a special evening, make your reservations ahead of time, as the other options on Bearskin Drive in Cape Ann are quite limited, so it does fill up quick. Stopped by on a whim and boy, this was a fantastic decision!!! We were welcomed by such friendly staff! The cocktails are made well, with skill and the best ingredients...but the best was yet to come. The bread was delicious, warm and fresh, served with chive butter and olive oil. I ordered the avocado and Jonah crab salad which was perfect! Lots of crab, lots is avocado and flavorful. The other two in my party got the ribeye and oh my, they would not stop talking about how amazing it was. The potatoes were freshly mashed, the ribeye melted like butter. Great dinner! My husband said the swordfish was the best he's ever had. We also enjoyed the chicken, mussels, shrimp egg rolls, and mushroom soup. Everything was hot and delicious. I have one suggestion. If ordering the wedge salad, they seasoned it with black pepper before bringing it to the table (which we found over powering). Prices are expensive but you get a good portion .. they pour a good drink, everything about the place is awesome except the time you can enjoy it all. we had 5:45 reservation we had drinks an appetizer and an entree each then an after dinner cocktail and 1 hour ten minutes in the hostess is pushing us out as well as the three other tables staying "we have reservations " paid $174.00 without tip (we did leave a $40.00 tip) but really a Saturday night date night with those prices and I'm pushed out. I'm a local and never again. give me 2 hours.. I get you want the turn over but with your prices let's consider better dining experience. won't be back.. too many places trying to make it with better customer needs understanding. read more

Glad to have picked this spot for dinner while visiting Rockport. My husband and I were very impressed with the food. We shared a large garden salad with avocado and amazing homemade dressing. The above average-sized filet was cooked to perfection. On our way out after talking with the owner, we learned that everything is sourced locally and very fresh. Went with a party of 11 on a Saturday night. Great service and wonderful food. The table shared a lot of things so I can say with certainty that the oysters on the half shell, baked oysters, mussels, charcuterie board, mushroom soup and the steak were all delicious. I was in town at a friend's house and thought I'd grab a bite nearby. Found this place and it's great reviews here on Yelp and decided to stop by. Situated in picturesque downtown Rockport, this restaurant is small yet packs a lot of punch. I immediately noticed the upscale and modern look and feel of the place and while packed, I was able to score a seat at the bar. Bartenders were friendly and attentive and I had one of their recommended ciders which was delicious. As for an entree, I peaked over at my neighbor's dish and he highly recommended it. It was the Tuna with house shishito pepper fried rice, ginger scallion sauce, and bok choy. It was AMAZING! Came out quickly and the ingredients were super fresh and it just tasted "healthy" (if that makes sense). I'd love to bring a date here in the future as it's quaint, intimate and romantic. Check your take out order before you leave! Tonight we ordered takeout. Arrived at the appointed time and waited 20+ minutes for our order to be ready. Not a big deal but annoying. No apology, as usual. Got our order home... roast chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans came with NO mashed potatoes . But, the chicken was delicious. Halibut on a crispy potato cake... again a potato issue. The potato cake was burned so badly that it tasted like acrid smoke. It was hidden under the fish , leading to an unpleasant surprise. For almost $100 , we expected more. How hard would it be to toss the incinerated potatoes and replace them? How hard is it to check orders to be sure they are complete? We want to love this place, we really do. They are the only game in town during the winter months. But, I'll be hesitant to keep throwing money their way ... read more

Ever eat oyster sperm? Well I did. And I don't recommend it! Although this place has great ambiance on a nice summer evening, and overall our meals were ok (though certainly not worth the money), we were disappointed to find that some of our oysters were spawning (egg and sperm). My husband and I actually didn't even realize it until we both ate one and it tasted a bit different. I'll be honest, I may have eaten 2 sperm filled oysters without knowing what I was actually eating. After a quick google check, we sent the rest back uneaten, but the waitress never reported it back to the kitchen or discounted our bill for the ones not eaten. Yuck. read more

I had high hopes coming into my dinner at F&W, so I was a little let down. Oysters and tuna tartare were both good, but nothing exemplary. My wife's steak was well seasoned/cooked and was a value for the price. Were F&W really fell short was my lobster risotto, which was devoid of any flavor. There's not a chance this was cooked with any sort of seafood stock; it also needed more butter, shallots, and a boatload more salt. The best part of the meal might have been the blueberry peach crisp, which the chef showed restraint on the sugar. I really liked the decor and ambiance of the space, but simply wasn't wowed by the meal. read more

We had a pretty good experience here. Note that this review is during the COVID-19 pandemic, so things are a little weird. They have spaced out the tables, and masks are required for entry. They have also built a deck on the sidewalk, and have some outdoor seating. Service was friendly, capable, and generally timely. Love ordering from F & W as a standing take-out option these days. We probably order twice a month from here, and are always extremely satisfied customers. This week We had a delicious seared tuna with a really simple but tasty salsa on top. We also split the vegetable Thai curry as well which was ok, but we both agree the green or red Thai curry that was previously on the menu is paramount! Please bring back- the new one is missing the flavor and kick and isn't as delicious. The other thing that changed was you can't get their herbed butter with the bread when you get a side - I'm a bread freak and the Bonny bread line is delicious, but the butter is the reason to go for a side of bread.. Thank you for taking care of us this year- and Charles, for bringing such a fun and delicious place to the neighborhood. We're excited to come in for brunch soon! read more

What an amazing addition to the Cape Ann restaurant scene. We had a perfect dinner last night in terms of setting, service, and cuisine. The setting is tasteful: spare/minimal and inviting. The staff was friendly, helpful, lively, and competent. And, best of all, the cuisine was beyond excellent. We shared the fish stew--whose quality was sublime (superb shrimp, mussels, and scallops, along with excellent salmon and swordfish--in a pungent subtle broth), followed by the roast chicken--moist, intense, beautifully spiced. We paid a few bucks more for the bread--and were delighted we did: crisp, dense, flavorful, accompanied by excellent olive oil and an intense cheese spread. I rate this as the finest restaurant on Cape Ann and beyond. read more

We gave this place a second try on a cold Sunday evening at 6:15. We were greeted warmly by one of the waitresses and offered a table right away with the knowledge that it was reserved for 7:30. No problem as we were only getting appetizers and splitting a plate after the show at Shalin Liu. Place was about 2/3 full. Service was much better, food was straight forward, no gamey flavors but nothing special. Again, very expensive bar drinks. Atmosphere awesome, warm and cozy. But the biggest annoyance is the aloof owner. He just sits at the bar watching YouTube videos on his tablet. He doesn't greet people, he doesn't help clean or serve, he doesn't interact with customers, he doesn't walk around to see how your meal is. It's downright bizarre. If an owner isn't going to do any of these (and he should be doing all of these) then he is just there to make sure the bar tender doesn't over pour and then count his money at the end of the night. Message to owner "Go home and let the real workers run the place as they do a much better job than you". read more

I posted a reservation with the website "Resy" nearly a month before our dining date at 'The Feather and Wedge'. When I made the reservation, I noted on the special instructions that the night in question was our wedding anniversary. We arrived early, and were forced to wait in the heat while a wealthy local patron (who had no reservation) was given a table she wanted, at the time she wanted, for that night. The persons in charged accommodated her immediately. After she was done negotiating her service, we were allowed to check in and we were given what was perhaps the worst table in the restaurant. It was next to the entrance, and the bar, and the cash register and the wait station. Honestly, in my humble opinion, there shouldn't be a table there. When we asked for another table the hostess, who was very young, spoke to a person who we later learned was one of the owners. He quite brusquely told her they "if they don't like they can eat outside". I told the young lady "never mind, we'll go somewhere else." She looked at the owner who made a hand gesture that suggested 'let them go, who cares.' I later received a text from Resy asking me about my reservation. I replied that the restaurant had attempted to ruin our anniversary. A little while later I received a text telling me my reservation was cancelled. It was not cancelled, we left because the service was so blatantly rude. It was my intention to place a review on the Resy site stating this, but because the restaurant cancelled the reservation, I was unable to do this. I asked Resy to 'un-cancel' my reservation and allow me to tell the people what happened; hopefully they will oblige. In the meantime I am sharing this experience with you, because behaviors are rarely out of context. In other words, if they treated me this way, it is likely that they have and will treat others this way. It was quite obvious to me that the restaurant owner deemed me unworthy of being treated decently, ostensibly because I am neither a local nor (as far as he knew) wealthy. Please consider boycotting 'The Feather and Wedge' with me to demonstrate our solidarity in the belief that no person has the right to discriminate against another based on their perception of that person's station. We don't live in a class based society, please help me prove that to 'The Feather and Wedge'. Thank you read more

I love this restaurant and throughout Covid we have ordered carry out at least 1 time per month. The on- line menu provides great variety at a reasonable price. Tonight we ordered fish and lobster pasta dish. Our entrees were 5 star plus. Each was cooked to perfection. The fish was prepared perfectly, mashed potatoes, green beans top drawer. The linguini with large chunks of lobster prepared with seasoning that delighted the palate. Support our local restaurant, cooks, waitstaff and purveyors. Mask up, enjoy. We got this!! read more

A Fantastic and Sorely Needed Addition to the Rockport Dining Scene Feather & Wedge came recommended to us by a friend whose family spends quite a bit of time in Rockport. We were a bit discouraged to read some of the Yelp reviews and to look at the overall score. However, we decided to stick with our reservation. Located at the base of Bearskin Neck, parking was reasonably easy to find "on street." The physical space of Feather & Wedge is nice and clean with a modern look. The staff were helpful and friendly. We did not encounter any of the "service issues" mentioned in other reviews. The menu was small but with enough variety to fit most palates. I started with the mussels which were terrific. A generous serving of plump mussels were bathing in a rich broth with just a bit of kick from jalapeno peppers. A great start to the meal. Next, I had the pesto cavatelli with seared halibut. The halibut was perfectly cooked, fresh, a perfect accompaniment to the flavorful cavatelli. The pasta came with a delicious pesto, mint, and fresh peas. The pasta itself was cooked perfectly. Three of us at the table ordered it and all raved about it. One of our table ordered the Faroe Island salmon and loved it. For dessert, we shared the lemon and blueberry bread pudding. It was spectacular. The slightly soured whipped cream plus the lemon contrasted perfectly with the sweet if the blue berries and brioche. It was a great ending to a wonderful meal. Overall, Feather & Wedge was a very pleasant surprise. It is definitely our new go-to restaurant when in Rockport! read more

An unexpectedly tasty and pleasant evening at Feather and Wedge. Stopped in after an eight hour drive on a Wednesday night. Lovely live guitar music, an appealing vibe and buzz, prompt service at the door, and an efficient, helpful waitperson who made some wonderful suggestions. We went with the eggplant parmesan which was simple and excellent. The sauce was not too sweet, the eggplant perfectly cooked- a combination of taste and comfort that managed to be light and filling at the same time. This was accompanied by the freshest of salads with a creamy dressing that was the perfect complement to the eggplant. Really good cooking. Great evening. read more

The food was delicious and the staff seemed friendly except for our waitress Carol who preformed one of the most distasteful acts I have ever witnessed. My sister and I were out with our 90 year old grandmother who has Alzheimer's. My grandmother insisted on paying so when she did she made an honest mistake and didn't tip to the proper 20% as is custom. I noticed that and was going to give Carol the proper tip on the way out the door as I did not want to embarrass my grandmother. Instead of getting the receipt after we had left the restaurant Carol came and took it prematurely. She returned a few seconds later to confront my grandmother about the lack of tip. As someone who has Alzheimer's she was very confused by the whole situation and very embarrassed. As someone who has served in the service industry I have never thought of preforming such a distasteful act or heard of anyone doing such a thing. I would recommend proper training as this was the lowest of the lows to be preformed in a place of service. read more

This past Saturday evening Laura and I had a wonderful meal at this finde establishment... We had just spent a perfect DAT at Crane's beach and decided to check Rock port out. The restaurant was very full and lively, but we were lucky to get a table for two within 5 minutes. The ambience was very lively and a bit loud, the decour was modern, the space had very high ceilings, which help create a spacious feel, despite its relatively small space. The service was excellent and accommodating... We ordered 2 Jungle Love cocktails to start and the watermelon, feta, mint and cucumber salad and the steamed mussels. The salad was okay...nothing special...tasty though. The mussels on the other hand were excellent, with a Thai style broth, which we ended up eating like soup once we devoured the mussels and bread. Finally we ended the meal with the Thai Curry with chicken...this was the best dish...again we ended eating every bit of this dish, and practically drank the remaining sauce. Perfect amount of heat to go with the other spices. We give the meal a 4.5 and certainly worthy of a return. Salud! read more

We walked in to F&W without reservations and sat at the bar for drinks. The name of the place refers to granite quarrying (chief export of Rockport (duh!) until invention of cement) which occurred just upland from town. Thus: handsome granite bar top and dramatic photos of quarry and famous buildings constructed from it. Never moved from bar to harbor view table because it was so pleasant. Knowledgeable bar - wait staff, generous pours, fresh ingredients modernly put together modern Massachusetts-California style, prices fair especially given summer season and proximity to center of action in town. Seafood, meats and pasta yummy in menu with interesting specials, kids well- behaved will do fine. This is a newer place in this charming town and a welcome alternative to the older guard.
