They informed me that it's their policy to charge the same as the real drink with alcohol- it was really a huge put off and I don't think I will go back because of that. It is so loud that it's really hard to speak to the folks you're with. Showed up a little underdressed compared to the regular clientele, at 4:10, and they said we could be seated if we left by 5:30 bc of existing reservations, even though they usually recommend 1hr 30m for dining, and we'd only have 1hr 20m. The waiter then rushed us through ordering and dropped the bill before we had even been there an hour. The snootyness was palpable. Good cocktail selection, good beer, but tiny draft list. The mussels were excellent. The lobster bisque was a bit acidic, and less creamy than I expected. Also, the lobster meat was tough. Much below what I expected of this dish. We love to patronize Feather and Wedge when we are in Rockport. Went there about a week ago and it did not disappoint. Broiled oyster appetizer was tasty and the Sole Meuniere was out of this world. My Bramble cocktail was a perfect sip. We shared a blueberry crisp dessert that easily satisfied two. The ambiance is busy/noisy, but it's the tradeoff we make for a small, cozy venue. I never write reviews, but there were things so glaringly bad (and fixable) as well as good, that the mixed experience needs explaining. First, the good. The seared pear salad was amazing.Perhaps the best I've ever had. The oysters were great. Fresh, non-gritty, perfect flavor. The steak was flavorful, perfectly cooked. Mushroom soup -- very nice. Cocktails -- well done. But now the bad. The lobster risotto was so bland that neither my daughter or I could eat it. The lobster was good and large chunks, but the entire rest of the dish was really unflavored and a huge disappointment. But the worst was the staff. To be clear, they were not rude. But they were totally untrained, young, and simply incompetent to work in fine dining. A few examples -- when we arrived, our corner table had a clearance of 3 inches between us and the next table. My skinny children could not pull out the chairs far enough to get in. Rather than seating us at another vacant table, they made the next table that was already eating stand up while they moved them over a foot. The staff acknowledged nobody could fit there and blamed it on the cleaners, but the whole thing was embarrassing and rude to both us and the table they moved. Our entire $300 meal (2 kids, 2 adults) was over in 65 minutes. They took our food order before our drink order. When I asked about an appetizer, they responded, "well, what do you want to know?" (I suggested they simply describe it). They barely checked on us. They cleared the rest of our dinner plates while I was still eating. They brought our check while I was still eating. We had appetizers, salads, and entrees, but we still were in and out in 65 minutes. I never got the chance to order my glass of wine, yet I asked for the wine list. The bill gave suggested tip amounts of 20, 25, or 30 percent. We never tip less than 20 percent. Our family eats at all levels of dining establishments on a regular basis. But suggesting upwards of what amounts to a $90 tip for maybe four total trips to our table and service my 15-year old could beat in his sleep is ridiculous. In the end, I wrote this review because there is a lot of potential. The atmosphere and location are great. The chef is talented. The risotto needs a boost. The staff needs significant training or replacement. I would happily drop this kind of money for the right meal, but not for the experience we received. I was really disappointed. read more

There was someone who was at the bar drunk and falling all over the place and it made others feel very uncomfortable including myself. The staff tried to move him but he kept coming back for more . Perhaps the best overall meal of a mini-vacation to Rockport and Boston. Pretty crowded when we arrived, but our reservation was honored. I began with a well made Trinidad Sour, a bit adjacent to a whisky sour, and perfectly potent. We shared an appetizer of broiled oysters, the bivalves tasting briny and fresh, the topping did not overwhelm. I had the special --strip steak from a local farm. This came with bok choy and mashed potatoes and made a nice break from non-stop seafood. At $32, it was an excellent value - the meat perfectly seasoned and cooked to temperature, the mash savory. No, it wasn't quite Sparks, but it wasn't $60 for a naked piece of meat on a plate. La Portena's seafood stew was also on point - pretty comparable to the excellent one I had at Tonno the night before. The toasts were especially well executed. Accompanying the steak I had a nice pour of the Heitz Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, worth the $25 charged, at about $60 a bottle retail, and 95 on Wine Enthusiast. No room for dessert. The server was warm and friendly, yet very professional. Highly recommended. read more

Here's the thing: the food is very good, but the menu is small and changes every day. This creates a kind of Catch 22, because you need to reserve in advance but you can't be sure what will be on the menu when you arrive. I had the oysters, the Bonny bread (which was very good but costs $6), and the fish stew, which cost $32 and was mostly mussels. In addition, the wine menu is only by the glass and is not on the same level as the food. The service is excellent, but at that cost, I think I'll skip it next time. read more

Great little place-drinks were very strong! One of the best charcuterie boards we've ever gotten-anywhere. I would suggest not bothering with getting bread (they charge for this) if you're getting apps and dinner as the portions are pretty large. Our mains were the cod and the steak. First let me say that this is a real restaurant. The staff and service is what you expect. The place was properly lit and the seating was well spaced. Conversation was easy thanks to low background noise. Signature cocktails were excellent. Oysters were fresh . We had an antipasto with pickled veg , cheese and cured meat which was above par especially the stone ground mustard. The swordfish special was outstanding. I recommend you make reservations because this is simply the best restaurant in rockport . Nicely upscale and the location is fantastic. Local beers were fresh and cold. A wonderful meal all around. The ambiance is upscale, special occasion yet not stuffy . The menu is not extensive but everything was done to perfection even on a busy Friday night. I particularly enjoyed the salad with pears. The Halibut was delicious and we shared a strawberry shortcake dessert which was wonderful and not too sweet. I really do want to live this place. It's just "okay". They get a star for lovely servers and another for ambiance and another for location.... But the food is a swing and a miss every time. Raw steak or crunchy undercooked rice, food that is cool to the touch, no seasoning on anything. I have to wonder who their core demographic is? People who can't have salt, or spice, or who have sensitive gums, or who are used to nursing home food and this place is an exciting night out? This evening we stopped in to have dinner. Luckily we called to make a reservation while traveling to the B&B we are staying at while in Rockport. As a result of Covid-19 the seating was limited so we were lucky to grab an outside dining table. THe staff was great they seated us quickly and took our drink orders immediately. We had a half dozen oysters, bread, and I had the Ribeye and my girlfriend had the beet salad. The oysters were delicious. I did not understand the concept of having to pay for bread but because I love bread we did. My ribeye was cooked at the perfect medium-rare served over mashed potato and broccoli rabe. The potatoes and broccoli were excellent although I must say the cut of ribeye was not the best cut of meat. My girlfriend had the beet salad and thought it was good (large serving). Because it was the end of the night and it was a bit windy and cold we were able to have dessert inside. I ordered the affogato and it was good although I would have preferred to have it served in a tall glass, it was still good we enjoyed our meal and the service. Loved our experience on Friday night! who live in Gloucester and have wanted to dine at F&W for quite sometime. I recall how everyone here worked hard during the pandemic to make things happen, noting it had to be really difficult with such a small space. Hard to believe we have never made it there, usually too late for a reservation and didn't want to fight traffic. We decided to take a ride on Friday and ended up in Rockport. We were early and able to scoop up two seats at the bar and like Cinderella had to be out by 630 as somebody else would be there! First of all, the staff was great and personable. Drinks were delicious, so nicely chilled. We asked for a couple of suggestions as we want to share some things and got the mussels and chicken francesa, both were amazing, so full of flavor! Will be returning tomorrow night for your burger and haddick sandwich specials, Hoping we can sit at the bar and have a similar experience in food and service. This was one of the best dinner I've had in a long time. Everything was delicious. And the staff was amazing. The table shared oysters and a beet salad for apps. The main dishes included the sole, shrimp and polenta, and the chicken. Everyone had drinks which were all interesting and yummy. We ended dinner with an affrogato and tres leches cake. I tried to eat here many times but could never get a table so I made reservations a week in advance. Its a small place and the first table they had us at was crammed in so much you could pull the chairs out more than an inch. The host staff was helpful and reseated us. The food overall was excellent. I did find my Lobster Risotto bland but it was the anomaly because everything else was tasty. The drinks were good. The server was very fun and friendly. I wasn't a fan of all the people walking by our outside table constantly (busy area). Overall very positive. read more

I would give them 0 if possible. The absolute WORST experience in a restaurant I've had in years. Rockporters are sadly desperate for a place that is open during weekdays and serves alcohol. That is (imho) why this AWFUL place survives through winter and can continue to offer sub-par cuisine and deplorable service. After listening to my husband rave about the food looking delicious as he sat having a single glass of wine, once a week on his night out, I agreed to go with him. Well, our experience was so epically bad that he will never go again.
