I don't normally write reviews, but my experience at Federal American Grill for our Mother's Day dinner was so underwhelming that I felt compelled to warn others. We spent $60 per person expecting a solid, well-prepared dinner--and instead got what I'd call a glorified lunch special. The only positive thing I can say is that there were multiple choices to pick from on the "selected menu." But unfortunately, that's where the good things end. The salad was laughable--literally a cup-sized portion--and the rest of the meal wasn't much better. My food came out cold, aside from the short rib, which was just okay. My mother's vegetables were practically raw--definitely way past "al dente." And the dessert? Completely inedible: undercooked yet somehow rock hard. I'm confident my little cousin could've done better with a microwave and a boxed mix. To top it off, they automatically added a 20% gratuity to our bill--even though we were only a party of four. Isn't that usually for six or more? And to be honest, our server was robotic and nonchalant the entire time, so it's hard to say that tip was earned. read more

Excellent food, service, & atmosphere. Very relaxing. A bit pricey, but worth it. I got the salmon with bacon & mushroom risotto and sautéed spinach. Hubby got surf & turf. Everything was cooked perfectly. We shared an appetizer & dessert - again, excellent. We will definitely be back. read more

I actually really liked the food, surprised to say that since it's a chain with not so great reviews but the bang bang shrimp was so good we ordered it twice. I ended up having steelhead trout entree. Knocking off a star because the risotto that came with it was was not good. Drinks were great and service was friendly. Went to Federal American Grill and was sat immediately. Was served two tiny pieces of bread biscuits with butter and spicy jelly. They were good, but they served us the bare minimum. Seriously, the were barely enough for one person. Our waiter, Connor, took our order: 2 burgers, one medium rare, one medium well. One with chips, the other with fries. Waited a solid 25 min, and then we look up and our burgers are sitting under a heat lamp; Connor is nowhere to be found. Waited some more, thinking that the kitchen would yell for a runner, but crickets. I asked the hostess about our food and she too seemed lost. She talked to someone, who talked to someone, and then the same hostess brought us our food. Burgers were - ok, at best. My chips were warm, my wife's fries were ok too; she thought they weren't fresh (I didn't taste that). My medium rare burger was close, but my wife's was well-done. Not tasty-looking at all. Once we ate our 'nowhere near $19 dollar burgers', we waited and waited for Connor but he was busy getting drinks for a table of 8. So, we went to the hostess station (to get our check) and kept waiting. We didn't even want to stay for dessert. The owner needs to read the reviews (I see he doesn't comment on them), so guessing he does not. He'd see that that many seem to think the prices are not in line with what people get. Federal American Grill has become a favorite of mine, even though this location has some quirks. It's a relatively new restaurant, and it is put together quite handsomely. If you have time, make sure to visit the restroom for a chuckle. The dining room is usually quite dark and the perfect ambiance for date night. We were seated immediately, and we usually are when we have reservations like on this particular evening. Our server was Neil on this trip and he explained the specials and went off to enter our drinks and get their fabulous biscuits for the table. Things took a turn about here. Not incredibly bad, but service was a bit thin after this point. Long periods of no contact, and once we ordered our food, we waited even longer. The manager did however surprise us with a free spinach dip for the long wait (the kitchen got backed up) and made the situation much better as we were starving (which is why it's half eaten in the picture lol). My meatloaf was fantastic as usual, and my husband loved his steak. We also ordered half baked cookies to go, and they were packaged very well. I've been a few times and really enjoy the food. We shared the fried cheeseburger eggrolls and it was a really small portion to share but so yummy. I've also tried the cheeseburger bowl which was amazing! The bartenders are very attentive and give high quality service. My fiancé and I went here for the Valentine's Day set menu experience. It was $75 per person. The menu was extremely lacking and the food was disgusting. I've been here before and ordered off the regular menu and enjoyed the food, so I was pretty surprised when the set menu experience was awful. The appetizer portions were small and did not taste good. The only thing that was good was the steak (filet mignon) but cost $15 more per plate. Which came with mash potato and veggies both of which were terrible! It was so disappointing. Then we got to dessert and they only had two options. The "gooey butter cake" was literally a dry muffin!!! And the "lava cake" was so horrible. Dry, cheap chocolate taste. It tasted like it could have came from the Costco freezer section I'm not joking. The cost of the meal was insane compared to how horrible the food was. read more

Quality of food has dropped over the last couple of years. Not very consistent. One steak might be great, next couple can be disappointing. Some dinner items can be great then overcooked next time. Music tends to be loud for carrying on a conservation at the dinner table. I have brought guests there and they do not want to go back due to not being able to hear one another. This was supposed to be a elegant restaurant, but the food presented was what you'd expect from a greasy spoon joint like Waffle House. I was so disappointed. Fresh cornbread brought out as we sat down, followed by an appetizer of brussel sprouts, iceberg wedge salad, and fresh drinks from the expansive bar options started us off on our relaxing lunch adventure. Came in for brunch for a friend's birthday. The decor was very cute. I love the quirky fun quotes they have in the bathroom and hallways. Overall food was good and they had good service. Our glasses were never empty. However, Some of the staff did not wear masks which made me a little uncomfortable. The appetizers were delicious! I was not happy with the chicken& waffle and would not recommend this dish. The flavor was not there for me. The cinnamon sauce should have been in the waffle, not the chicken. It's like a mix of Asian fusion with classic American dishes Prices seem a touch high for some entree options. And then some dishes just seem to use "bing" words to try to make something seem more exotic. Overall I wasn't really impressed with the dishes ordered. Portion size were underwhelming especially when you think of what you can get somewhere else that's better as well as cheaper. The burger I ordered was cooked properly but the patty was very small. The messy Dijon/mayo/paprika was overpowering. And the brioche bun was a terrible mistake. Finally service was okay. I hate to write this review, but someone needs to pay attention to the to-go orders and quality of the meal. The only reason we placed an order to go is because we just had dinner at the Federal Grill on I-10 which was a very good meal. Since the Grand Parkway location is closer we decided to give it a try so, we ordered: meatloaf (had it at the other location) and French dip. The meatloaf had the texture of canned potted meat and the mashed potatoes had to be instant! I swear the meatloaf tasted as if it came out of a can. It was not even close to the meatloaf at the other location. The French dip didn't come with the Au jus. It was dry sliced roast beef with melted cheese on top of a limp hoagie type roll that was slightly toasted. The French fries are from frozen. If we had eaten in house, I would have sent the meal back. I am NOT that type of patron either. So disappointed. read more

I made reservations for Father's Day for a party of 7. Everything started off great. We ordered calamari and shrimp for appetizers. They came out really quickly and everyone really enjoyed both of them. We ordered our entrees immediately after we ordered our appetizers but waited almost 45 mins to get our entrees. When the wait was finally over and we got our entrees they were very underwhelming and cold. My sister in law asked for her steak to be cooked medium and they brought out an over cooked steak. When they told the waiter the steak was overcooked he said it would take 20-25 mins to cook a new one. She didn't want to wait so proceeded to eat her overcooked steak. After 5 mins another waitress stops by to drop off a steak that was cooked medium. It was very nice of them but the communication just seemed off. Regardless, the steak didn't taste any better. It wasn't seasoned at all. The other entrees were also mediocre. Initially I was surprised how terrible the reviews were but after dining here the reviews make totally sense. I am so disappointed in our visit to Federsl American Grill (Katy). We were headed out to a date night, me and my wife of 22 years, and we were going to go to Saltgrass, a regular place for us. We decided last minute to try Federal AG. We had heard so much on Michael Berry how great everthing is. That it is truly amazing. When we arrived (8/6/24) it was just before 9pm. We were seated and the waiter took our drink and appetizer order. When it came time to order, we were informed that there was no ribeye available. I really was in the mood for a steak and ribeye is my favorite (wife's too). We were both disappointed and considered just having appetizer (spinich dip) /drinks and calling it an evening but we decided to stay. The waiter returned and said they DO have ribeye and the kitchen and computer are not synched properly. For how empty the restaurant was (maybe 5 tables total, no big parties) it seemed to take an eternity to get the appetizer and Drinks came out one at a time which seemed odd. Anyway, we finished with our appetizer and the waiter boxed it up for us to go and the main course had not come out. Then, the food finally comes out (we both ordered med rare steak) and my wife, not one to say anything said hers was ok. Mine was half med rare and half shoe leather. I've never had a worse cooked steak and if not for the butter on top, no seasoning! There isn't even salt and pepper on the table! The baked potatoes was the best part of the meal. The Brussels sprouts we subbed for seasonal veggies, were dry and only partially cooked (still hard as if they weren't cooked through). Anyway, the waiter brought us a piece of bread pudding because as he said "the kitchen is now closed" and he comped that item. (Separate issue but I LOVE bourbon but HATE bread pudding, but we weren't even given an option for desert. ) The waiter, and I don't remember his name was good, but as I'm still eating, He comes and asks me if he can box it up, I was like fine...I'll finish at home (at this point we were the only ones left in the place at 10:09) I could understand if we came in last minute, which we never like to do to a restaurant, but we arrived just before 9pm. Food was not even average, drink was awesome, service was ok but we felt like they were very slow to bring the food and they Wanted to rush us out, my bill, with tip was $200 for two people. I'm sorry, but overpriced hype in my opinion. Managements response to our submitted review/complaint was less than stellar....just kind of sorry we fell short, we hope you'll come back and spend even more money with us! Not an attempt to explain what might have happened. Not an attempt to make amends. I've heard good things about this place but coming back would feel like gambling with a couple hundred dollars...and I don't feel like asking myself, "well, you feel lucky,punk"! This is easily the worst experience I've had at a high end restaurant. I considered leaving 2 stars just to not be overly harsh, but management's response also fell way short so 1 star it is. It wasn't such a good night tonight at the federal grill. 6 of us came in to celebrate our daughters wedding engagement and 4 of us left disappointed.Took 20 minutes after we sat down to order drinks. Took another 20 before we were asked for our drink order, then another 20 minutes to get the drinks. From the time we ordered It took us an hour and a half to get our food. Food was room temperature. Creamy horseradish tasted like mayonnaise, did not taste like horseradish. Wedge salad lettuce was all yellow. We ordered chips and were served cold fries. They did finally bring us chips. We've been to this restaurant many times and this time we bring in out of town guests and this was everyone's experience. We asked twice for our check and it took forever to get it. Went to Mothers Day here. Had reservation. Small plates on table and silverware smelled like old fish. I don't go around smelling these things normally, but these you could smell while just normally sitting at the table. Very strong odor. Server came to the table. We pointed this out to him. He took them away and brought replacements.the new plates were ok but the silverware stunk.these were either the same ones he took away or replacements that had same issue. Empty table next to us had same issue, we sniffed those too. Nonchalance of server was obvious. He said maybe there was an issue with the towels they use to dry these or something.we highly suspected there's a bigger issue like nasty rinse water or insufficient washing or something. We have eaten at this location before with no such issue. We decided to leave and ate elsewhere. This is not an inexpensive place. To have this happen and not resolved is inexcusable. Server did nothing to convince us to stay. He.was like oh well.This was Mother's Day. On the way out i located the manager who was equally dismissive and unconcerned. He said they were looking into it. That's it. No attempt to make us stay, maybe he could have said sit back down, I'll take care of this myself, or something. A manager like that is why there is a server like that. Needless to say we were very disappointed, as we were looking forward to eating there. I felt like yelling out "smell your silverware" to the other customers on the way out but didn't. Earlier visit in December was great, pricey but very good. Not going back to this place, apparently they either don't wash their dishes or their rinse water or towels or whatever the hell make this not happen are not being monitored. Wonder what the cleanliness of the kitchen is like. Of course, people will continue going there, this will affect nothing, and life will go on. Federal Grill will continue on, making a fortune. Federal American Grill has become one of my absolute favorite spots and Katy. I've been here a handful of times now for dinner, and I always leave so impressed with everything! Actually - the first time my partner and I went here we accidentally made reservations at a different location, but they were kind enough to accommodate us and give us with a great table/booth seat. The inside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! They have a bunch of different tables, high top bar tables, a lot of bar seating, and if you have booth seats for a more intimate setting. They also have a large meeting room that is dressed up with whiskey barrels. I love the atmosphere! Plus, I have to rave about how gorgeous their bar is. The liquor wall is floor to ceiling, and there are so many whiskey options. Great for whiskey lovers! The food is fantastic. We've tried so many different plates on the menu, and I'm always extremely impressed with flavor, taste, and creativity. The filet mignon is one of my favorites, and we also love the fresh oysters! All of their drinks and their cocktail menu are exquisite! More than anything, we are always so impressed with our service. This definitely feels like much more of an upscale atmosphere and the service lives up to it. All of our waiters have always been incredibly attentive and made us feel very special during our time! We've actually shut the place down a few times, and they've never rushed us out or made us feel like they were waiting on us to leave. This is my 2nd trip. So , let me give you a tip, do not sit in the Whisky Room. So, both times this is where we were seated. The room is a bit crowded. Need to take two tables out and spread it out a bit. The room is glassed in so it holds noise. The a/c doesn't flow as well - it was a good 5 degrees cooler in the big room. Just my opinion. As for the service, it was great. Waitress was excellent. Food was great. I had the shrimp n grits - very good with their own spin on this classic As for drinks, I had the smoked old fashioned. Presentation was amazing, delivered in a glass box full of smoke. Taste was excellent as well. A bottle of wine was ordered and it's price was fair, about 2x store price so not bad. We talked and visited without being rushed out. Will certainly return for special occasions as it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. read more

My wife and I have been to the Federal American Grill in the Heights several times and have always loved it. The food has always been spectacular as has the service. We were very excited to hear this location opened up as this is a little closer for us. After two visits, the only positive thing about this location is the atmosphere. We first visited shortly after this location opened many months ago and while the food was not great, we waived it off as technical difficulties and growing pains. Several months later we visited again and it has only gotten worse. We showed up tonight and had reservations for 8:15pm. We showed up at 8 and understood they could not seat us right away. Unfortunately, they did not seat us until 8:30pm. This was made worse by the fact they have virtually no waiting area so there was about 20 of us blocking the entrance waiting for our table. Once seated, we were able to order our food and drinks. Shockingly they have the flatest coke I have ever had! My wife ordered a tenderloin salad first. The tenderloin was beyond chewy and was very hard to chew without hurting a tooth. We sent that back and she got an ahi tuna salad instead which ended up being dowsed in salad dressing and having the tuna over cooked. Fail for both of the dishes she tried. I ordered a plain burger and it came loaded with everything. Sent that back too and about 5 minutes later got my replacement. They brought the same fries so they were stone cold at this point. The medium burger I ordered was very well done and overall had a bit of a sour taste. A manager came over to ask about the food problems and we told her about everything that was wrong and adding that I had been out of water for a while as well. She offered more food and we said after what happened all I want is some hot french fries. She quickly returned with some, however they were severely undercooked now. She checked in again and I told her the fries are severely undercooked. They brought us a brownie desert as an apology, however they also took away all of our utensils so we had nothing to eat it with! Eventually we got some utensils and it was the driest brownie we have ever tasted. It literally was something to choke on. This could be a good place if they could learn how to cook food. To add insult to injury, they charged us for all our food minus the dessert we didn't ask for and said we didn't want. The ambience, customer service, food, cocktails are amazing. The bartenders go out of their way to make a warm and welcoming environment.

I am saddened to say that overall, I don't feel I received $173.47 worth of a meal for two (with no alcohol in the tab). The only reason for the 3 stars is that the service was excellent and carried well throughout the experience. Appetizer: Fontina Spinach Dip We started out with high expectations because this first dish was excellent. Creamy, tangy because they served it with a side of salsa and sour cream. Very good. Salad: Caesar Don't waste your money. The parm crisp is not crispy, it's chewy and will make your jaw cramp. Inedible. The croutons we deducted were also made from the bread/ biscuits served at the table. They were great. The dressing was underwhelming. Dinner: Filet Excellent cook, but the Mac and Cheese was your typical truffle Mac. The spinach should've been creamed spinach but was garlic sautéed. Besides the great cook on the meat, the rest of the plate was ordinary. Dessert: Bourbon Bread Pudding If this was served warm with the cold ice cream on top, this would've had me coming back for more. But the bread pudding was cold. Wasn't comfort food at all. Horrible!! We walked into the restaurant and the general manager (David Danzinger) stated they were only accepting reservations. This was nowhere on their website and the posted sign in the door stated "we are starting to take reservations March1st." Mr. Danzinger also stated that he wanted to ensure everyone had a great experience but we absolutely did not. I'm assuming only the restaurant patrons who were actually seated were included in that statement. This was an awful first impression. read more

I got the Truffle stuffed chicken and I was expecting chicken breasts and for there to be a little more herbal cheese filling but maybe that was just the Lord telling me I didn't need it. . The chicken was seasoned well along with the creamy Yukon potatoes and the Brussel sprouts I Substituted instead of the broccolini was a little salty.
