I don't often eat cheesesteaks in NY since most are often disappointing. Fedoroff's is good but it's still not a Philly cheesesteak from just say Dalessandro's. Now I don't know why it's so hard to mirror a cheesesteak from Philly. It's just a good roll, steak, whiz and onions. Not all are made the same. Cheesesteak from Fedoroff's is good but a tad salty. The whiz doesn't permeate the meat and cover all the meat cracks. So you get a good top bite but the mid section is lacking flavor. The roast pork sandwich is decent but I think the provolone could be sharper. I didn't taste much of it. Was never a huge fan of roast pork sandwiches but at least the version here was better than the best version in Philly from John's roast pork. When they asked me if i wanted hot peppers though, i thought they'd include them in the sandwich, but instead they were on the side. ima need that heat IN the sandwich. Tried the chicken cutlet Italian, but def could've avoided it. The cutlet was tough, a bit burnt, and dry. i needed to add hot sauce to make it manageable. I decided to try out the South Philly "style" steak and roast pork. It's a small narrow takeout place with pictures of Philly's 9th Street food market as well as pics of some famous people who I guess have eaten at this location. Having been born and raised in Philadelphia, I wanted to see if this was authentic to what I have eaten for years. I ordered the 6" pork sandwich ($17.95) and the 6" cheesesteak($18.95) Pretty pricey for a sandwich that costs $10-$11 in Philly. The order was ready roughly about 10 mins. The pork sandwich was really good. It was seasoned well and the Broccoli Rabe added a new nuance to the sandwich. The bread was soft and fresh. I paid for peppers on the side, but I thought they would be included. Nevertheless, the sandwich was 10/10 for me. Next up was the cheesesteak. I originally wanted a chicken cheese steak, but that wasn't a menu option. As soon as I unwrapped it, I knew it wasn't going to be good. They had no mustard, no pickles, they don't cook the hot peppers or sweet peppers with the meat. They give out packs of ketchup and mayo instead of adding it on the roll and on top of the meat. The worst part of it for me was the cheese whiz. I don't even like cheese whiz on French fries let alone my steak sandwich. I will stick to my traditional cheesesteak in Philly that is not over-priced and underwhelming with flavor. The cheese steak gets a 0/10 for me. New Yorkers don't know the difference if they have never had a Philly cheesesteak, but those of us who grew up in the city KNOW. The steak gave me Pat's and Geno's vibes aka tourist-taste and not good, neighborhood cheesesteak. We found Federoff's through a best sandwiches in New York tik tok and were once again reminded that some food TikTok trends are meant to be taken with a pinch of salt. Or maybe not at all. Because Good Lord, were these sandwiches salty! The impossible sandwich was about twice as salty as the regular cheesesteak sub. The regular sized sandwiches, which is about 6 inches were $20 a pop, minus tip and tax, which you might think is on par for Williamsburg. It simply wasn't good value for money. If I had to say one good thing about the impossible cheesesteak was just how remarkably close it was in texture to the real thing. It's hard to tell them apart. My cheesesteak craving was reaching Mt. Everest-like heights and with Tony Luke's in Flatbush gone, I had to crowdsource a new spot. Many people suggested Federoff's so I gave it a go and unfortunately, my experience can best be summed up as disappointing. The two stars are for the service, which was fine, and I guess a sympathy star because Federoff's didn't necessarily do anything to upset or inconvenience me as a customer. So first off, I don't know what the Cheese Whiz budget it is for this place, but I imagine it must be high because it seems like they use an entire jar for one sandwich. I mean, my sandwich was practically painted with Whiz, drenched to the point where the "steak" part of a cheesesteak was rendered obsolete. As I systematically took a bite with coated Whiz fingers I couldn't help, but notice that I tasted nothing except the Cheese Whiz and if I'm being honest, this is not a flavor I want to dominate my mouth. As a condiment, sure, but as a meal, no thanks. To make matters a little more complicated, half my sandwich's filling didn't stay in the hoagie roll. Could this have been prevented? Yes, by not slamming a gallon of Cheese Whiz on it. And look, I know this isn't fine dining. Cheesesteaks are sloppy, heart-clogging, hangover food, but I ate most of mine with a fork and it only made my lunch more frustrating to get through. Finally, the price. I'd normally look past this because we live in a high-priced city and it's rough for small businesses these days, but I spent almost 20 bucks for a 6-inch sandwich and a can of soda and the lesson I learned is to go to a bodega and spend half of that for a sandwich that more closely resembles a cheesesteak. Came here on a Saturday for an early dinner. They have a sign up that says only one customer at a time, but doesn't seem like people or the workers enforce the social distancing rule. One of the workers came in without a mask and started talking really loudly to the other person, and she was right behind us. Wear a mask lady, especially if you want to be an example to your customers! They do pickup and delivery of orders (just in case you didn't know). We ordered the regular fries which are fried in pure lard and ordered a cheesesteak which had house-sliced steak, fried onions and whizz. The bread was very soft and fluffy. The meat was tender and juicy. Wish they had peppers to add on top of it. Not sure if I will come back as there are other restaurants that I would like to check out in the area. That said, I've lived up here for over a decade and this far and away the best cheesesteak in New York City. The meat is fresh, the bread is right (absorbs the grease without getting soggy) and thy even have Cooper Sharp American cheese, so you know they're legit. Do I wear my Phillies cap on there to butter up the owner, and have I gotten a free drink out of it once or twice? I have, and that rules. Philly people are the best. The decor on the walls is also Philly sports memorabilia, which is great in a town full of annoying Mets fans. Is it a little pricey? I sought this place out specifically for the roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and provolone. I've heard rumblings that it may be the true king of Philly sandwiches rather than the cheesesteak, and after having had Federoff's, I must say I am convinced! I'd love to recreate it. I also got some whiz on the side, which, while maybe not traditional, was an excellent dip for the sandwich. The flavors are so strong and fit together so well. The broccoli rabe adds this bitterness that is awesome. I'm not usually into bitter flavors, but this rocked my world and showed me that bitter can be good. That combined with the rich pork and sharp provolone is something to behold. I also got the fries, which were great! I love that they fry them in lard. It's sad that vegetable oil is what's used in most places these days. They were generous with giving me hot sauce and such on the side which was great. As far as the store itself goes, there's not much in the way of seating, but you could totally do it. I took my food to a nearby park, though, instead. Either way, make sure to grab a metric ton of napkins, though, because this is one juicy sandwich. I should add the caveat that I have not been to Philly, so I don't have a lot to compare to. BUT I am very into cooking and food so I think that counts for something. Only point of note is that the roast pork is usually only available before around 5pm from what I heard. I don't think this is noted anywhere. I went once after that time and was disappointed to hear that it wasn't available, but it only made me all the more determined to make it back again the second time to experience it. The cheesesteak is really very good. Unctuous, moist, and beefy. All the things the a good cheesesteak should be. I would definitely go again for this (or the sunday sandwich, which looks awesome). Though notably, if you get one, its almost pointless to get the bronson fries which are basically just fries with cheesesteak fixings on top. The roast pork was a bit of a disappointment though. The pork was just too dry. Sure the au jus helps but you want the pork to be good enough without it and for the au jus to take it up to that next level. I'd say it's not very close to DeNics (which I think is still the platonic ideal of this sandwich). read more

I love the better Pork sandwiches in Philly, I think they're some of the best you can get in the world. Federoff's version, well.. I didn't love it, but there are some in Philly that are not as good, even though the best ones in Philly are far superior. This one was just okay, despite the big chunks of garlic. I guess the pork was a bit more like pulled pork rather than the perfect juicy deliciousness at John's in Philly, or at Tommy DiNic's for that matter. The chunks of cheese didn't really compare to the gooey melty X/S provolone on the Philly Sandwiches, and the broccoli rabe and nice bread were definitely the highlights. But the best majority of it went to my cats and roommates. The reason for the good rating is because I like that somebody is attempting to sell the sandwich outside Philly. I was extremely skeptical, but I had to try it if there was even a small chance I can get a true taste of Philly minus the drive. I can't believe it; this was one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks I've ever had. Not just outside of Philly, I mean Philly included. The ribeye tastes like ribeye, even though it's finely chopped. A lot of cheesesteaks lose that ribeye taste after it's all said and done, but not here - it's PROUDLY ribeye. I asked for Cooper Sharp, but they didn't have it so I opted for American Cheese over Cheese Whiz. It melts and relaxes nicely in every nook and cranny without over powering the sandwich. Finally made it in on a Tuesday for a reduced-price cheesesteak. The price on this sandwich has gone up over the years, but it's still cheaper to get it at the special price. I was told to wait a few minutes so I pulled up a stool and read a book on my phone. When my order was ready I brought the bag back to the counter and unwrapped the juicy goodness inside. This sandwich gets messy so use napkins and prepare to get your hands dirty. Once I started eating it was hard to stop.
