First stop off the plane, was on the fence on either @fegesbbq or another spot. I saw carrot cake on the menu and that was the ultimate decider. This is my first time here and was surprised to walk into a food court. I'm a sucker for sliced pork belly. The immediate hit of the sweetness that comes off the pork and the taste of smoke. Between bites of the spicy jack cheese sausage that balanced the spiced with the simple is best fight in my mouth. Such a nice and smokey brisket melted into my mouth and into my soul. Btw a wonderful dark crunchy bark. Makes me miss being in TX. Between these fatty smoked meats, the elote corn salad was a nice acidic and refreshing bite. And in the end the thing that made me want to come here. The carrot cake! So moist!!! best carrot cake I've had? Idk, but I cant think of anything else right now. All this in the last place I expected . . . a food court of all locations. After my meal, definitely I agree with their shirt of being the best food court barbecue in TX . . . heck the US. Even without falling in that niche category, it was a delicious meal.

Thank you for your immense generosity and contributions to the Veteran community. The food is fantastic. The sides are well seasoned and unique as well. Merry Christmas & God Bless.

I added a couple more pictures. Just a reminder that everything is seasoned to perfection and tender AF. They also have a peanut butter cake and a sweet bread pudding for dessert. I don't think they're open all day because they're in that food plaza underground, but of course, I've never visited outside of lunch hours.

Brisket was good, but I would recommend a pass on the ribs.

Sorry, this one just didn't do it for me. The staff was definitely stand offish, if not stiff to the customers. Definitely couldn't give a rip for whoever was in front of them or when they brought out the mystery food from the kitchen. No carving in front of you, no readily viewed meats in warmers, just mystery doors and your number called whether you are dining in or away. Worse the food was just above room temperature, pretty chewy and dried out. No telling when or how the meat was either cooked or stored. Definitely not living up to the hype. The brisket was much better than the pork ribs so if you want to start somewhere, there's the target. All of it was good, but this is supposed to be in the top echelon of Texas BBQ and it was nowhere close. I had the brisket and pork ribs. Both were uninspiring and I've had much better from the triumvirate of Texas regional players (Rudy's, Coopers, & Blacks). The sides were the least inspiring. The loaded mashed potatoes had a great concept but sorely lacked in execution. That was NOT very fresh and I was there at 11:30. How much earlier was it cooked?? Finally, I used to compete in cast iron cooking contests and the lowly cornbread is an exceptional way to differentiate chefs. So sad that this wasn't much better than something pre-baked from a grocery store.

For being in an office building cafeteria/hub, the bbq at Feges BBQ was absolutely delicious. This was a great stop for my visit to Houston!

Wood smoked meats in an office building food court done very well!? Yes! We were worried about having to pay to park which adds to price of the meal. Not so, they validate for up to 2 hours. It took us a little more than an hour to eat some 5 star 'Q, look at the other restaurants and score a couple great coffees and a cookie at a coffee shop. The three meat plate with two sides fed both my wife and I very well. The sliced brisket was very tasty and tender, the pork ribs were the star of this show, both of these were 5's, the only average thing on our plate was the sausage. We picked the brussel sprouts and charro beans, both were 5 stars. The reviews said the sides were as good as their meats, true. If you visit this place with people who don't like 'Q....I know, blasphemy.....they'll have options, Mexican food, Chinese, Mediterranean, Tollhouse cookies and a very nice coffee shop. You can sit at the communal seating and snicker at the people/barbarians not eating 'Q.

Historically when I venture over to Greenway Plaza, I'm in pursuit of the deliciousness that is Willet Feng's unami burger from burcher-chan, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try the hyped up Feges BBQ. I was excited, because I was a fan of Plonk! where Smith was previously the chef. I'm uncertain if I caught them on a bad day or if they've just been bribing Houston area food writers, but I was wholly unimpressed, especially at this price point. I ordered the 1 meat plate for $14 and got the brisket with a side of mac-n-cheese. I certainly don't mind some fat on my brisket, but this cut of meat was almost half fat. Despite the fat, the brisket was still a bit dry. It was, however, very tender and quite tasty. Again, I was mostly disappointed I didn't get more of it/a better cut--especially for $14 + tax and tip. The mac and cheese was good, but nothing to write home about (see: Grace's). In an attempt to get full, I loaded up on bread, pickles and red onions at the condiment station, but alas, I left hungry nonetheless. Given the number of people who love this place, I'd probably be willing to try them again if I was in the area, but I won't go out of my way at this price point. My wife doesn't like BBQ so I don't get it all that often, but I definitely think Gatlins and Fainmous are head and shoulders above Feges.

Been following these lovelies for years during their popup days. Finally they have a spot, but it's only open when I'm working WOMP WOMP. Still, I found a day off to go and visit finally! Tasty brisket and turkey, innovative sides, seriously scrumptious desserts (per my dining partner). Great things happening here, as expected! Location and hours are the downside for me, but lucky for those that work in the plaza.

The tubs of ice filled with cold drinks all around as you approach the counter was casual and fun. And the staff was welcoming and friendly. The menu had so much variety, without being overwhelming. Anything from a good pazole, to a brisket Rueben, to an American Italian sandwich! I got the báhn mì sandwich, which was bursting with flavor! The pork was seasoned well and had good flavor from the marinade. The cilantro, pickled onions, jalapeno, all were so fresh and vibrant! And I was able to get homemade chips and fresh strawberries as my side - such a refreshing bite the strawberries after a rich, porky, spicy bite from the sandwich. Can't say enough good! Loved this place and would go back in a heartbeat!

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.

I ordered the Cotto & Crudo pizza and the Pollo Milanese sandwich, and honestly, I can't say which I liked more. I finished the sandwich at the restaurant because I knew it just wouldn't hit the same as leftovers. The chicken was THICC. And why is it that a good heirloom tomato can absolutely make a sandwich? Because this one did. Add in the spicy mayo, melted cheese, and super thick yet airy focaccia, and it was a solid 10/10. Now for the pizza- it was fantastic at the restaurant and somehow just as good the next day. The mortadella is a nice, mellow complement to the obvious star of the show (in my opinion): the pistachio cream. Also 10/10.

Tartuffo pasta - 7/10 - the truffle cream sauce was delicious - creamy but not heavy, but the cheese in the cheese tortellini lacked flavor and did not add to the overall experience of the dish. Parking can be tight depending on the time/day. This location feels like it has more indoor seating and a better patio than The Heights which is more exposed to the outdoor elements off the trails. I couldn't remember if I'd been here before until old photos I posted showed. I'm used to The Heights location which is closer to me. It's been about 5 years when I first moved to the loop that I went here with a friend. I had the OG Brussels sprouts which were my favorite when they still had Benjy's in Rice Village. It was a staple for 25 years. They closed in 2020 to expand Local Foods. Pretty bummed because Benjy's was great and had an amazing pecan-crusted goat cheese appetizer with pita. It had more of a cocktail lounge vibe that my friends and I would frequent back in grad school for HH. They had another location off Washington, but that is also closed and is now Forget Me Not. Anyways, the Brussels sprouts were amazing, and I always loved them. I'm glad that Local Foods occasionally features it as a special. I usually gravitate towards the crunchy chicken sandwich. The pretzel bun is everything, and the filling is loaded. If you have a bit allergy, this is not for you. It has pecans in them. I like the added potato chips, too. This time I tried the tacos de camote which was a sweet potato taco. I couldn't find any photos of it on this Yelp page, but I've had sweet potato tacos before in Scottsdale and was hooked. I didn't expect two large wedges on sweet potato lodged in a taco shell. It was delicious and carmelized. You could hear the crunchy outside texture. Loved that. What I didn't love was the difficulty of eating it. The wedges were huge, and the sweet potato was too hot and steamy. It would've been better had they been diced. The pumpkin seed mixture was good but too spicy with the jalapeños. I like spicy food but didn't expect that. The tacos needed salsa or crema to cut through the heat. I picked off the jalapeños and fork and knifed the sweet potato after a few bites with the taco shell. The taco itself is a blue nixtamilized corn tortilla. It held up the taco filling fairly well considering the huge wedge of sweet potato. It also dripped the oil off the sweet potato. I couldn't taste much of the refried beans. I liked these tacos, but it was a little too spicy and didn't have the acid it needed to make it better. I ate the sweet potatoes and nixed the tortillas. As for the sides, I usually get the kale salad because theirs doesn't taste like dirt. Lol. They add enough lemon, pine nuts, golden raisins and Parmesan cheese to make it taste better. I could eat a bowl of that. It's always served in a tiny container. I also get their homemade potato chips. It's dusted with Old Bay seasoning. It can be oily at times, though. This time, I tried a seasonal side of strawberries that was recommended by the guy at the register. It was delicious. The strawberries were soaked in a slightly sweet simple syrup with chopped basil. They have a variety of lemonades, tea, fountain drinks, cocktails and refrigerated beverages to choose from. Lemonade can be too sweet, so I dilute it with ice and water. I like that it's open with the cups and plastic to-go cups if that's your preference. I've always enjoyed what Local Foods offers and like that they offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Service is friendly, and it's a nice, casual place to dine in or on the patio.
