I really really really want to find my go-to chinese place...and so far, (for lack of other options or experiences yet to be had) this is it. And truthfully, the location can't be beat. The mooshoo is fabulous (espec with shrimp) and is a really great portion. (Ask for extra pancakes if you're hooked on the rolling experience) The tofu dishes (or anything really not fried) made with their house sauce or the garlic sauce are extremely flavorful and not overly greasy. The chicken is hit or miss and has at times been really great and at others a bit tough and lacking in presence and flavor. The crab rangoon is so so (but then again i've had pretty frickin incredible crab rang in boston and was rather spoiled). Points for having brown rice, but a word to the wise, if you order it, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THAT THEY ACTUALLY GIVE YOU BROWN INSTEAD OF WHITE BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Twice now, I walked out with a whole lotta white rice. And when i finally wised up the last time i ordered and asked them if there was in fact brown rice in my bag before i left, sure enough, white it was--the woman who works behind the counter is very sweet and no qualms were had as my rice was quickly swapped out. Please Dont!!! This is the worse chinesse restutant Ive ever eaten from. I brought a simple order of pork dried rice with chicken wings. The wings are so hard and tasteless. All Im doing is hurting my teeth every time I try to bite into it. Its bland non seasoned taste makes me regret wasting my money. The rice was soggy and some pieces of the pork was undercooked why others were overcooked. I will never eat from here again. Now I have to turn around and spend more money on dinner this choice I made was apparently the worse one ever read more

Absolute best Chinese food in the East Village. I've been ordering food from here for like 10+ years and its always consistently great. Ahh Fei Ma, what can I say. I've been in the East Village for over 30 years and you are not a true East Villager if Fei Ma isn't your go-to-spot for delicious Chinese food. This is much more than a restaurant to me. Fei Ma represents East Village culture. When it first opened in 1995, everyone went here, and all of the locals still go here. I personally know the owners and they work so hard to keep the customers happy. I even went to their wedding and now they have two adorable little boys. They are the hardest working people I've ever met in my life. Rain, snow or shine they are always there. During the new year they always give out those calendars and you aren't a local if you don't have those hanging up on your wall. All the dishes are amazing, especially the General Tso's Chicken and Chicken Wings. On top of that they give very large portions. The rice is not too soft but not too hard, steamed to the perfect amount. Mouthwatering Boneless Spare Ribs topped with sweet and savory BBQ sauce. Egg Rolls are fried to the perfect crispiness that's crunchy on the outside and soft and hot on the inside. Make sure you order the Cold Sesame Noodles because they pair perfectly with the greasy goodness that you have just consumed. After 30 years of eating here, I've tried everything there is to try on the menu and trust me, this is the BEST Chinese take-out around. The delivery has been consistent and always under 15 minutes. I've seen the same delivery guy since 1999 so you know that the owners must be doing something right if an employee has been working for that long. Food always comes in hot and nice, rather than soggy and wet like the other Chinese take-out stores around. I always tip nicely because the delivery guy has become my friend after all these years. Fei Ma is a staple of the East Village before gentrification took over. Everyone's complaining about the price but look around people. The only reason why the prices here are going up is because of gentrification. How can you expect a take-out store to survive in a neighborhood that's being turned into a collection of condos and luxury apartments. Also, can people stop complaining about cash only and no online ordering. I don't see what's the problem. I love that this store has kept it original with the take-out process. To me it's more than just the food, it's the process. It doesn't feel like real take-out unless you call in and pay cash only. Keeping it traditional is the way to go. So I recommend everyone to eat here because honestly, the rent prices are going up way too fast, and this restaurant isn't going to be here long. LOVE this place. $10 minimum and no delivery fee. This is a go-to for my roommates and I. They have 2 phone numbers; sometimes they're super busy and don't answer one, but they've always answered one of the two! Their portion sizes are great - I usually have enough for lunch the next day. Wow....service here was so rude. I was ignored for a solid 30 minutes while the guy was on the phone (on a very obvious personal call) and then when I asked if I could place my order, I was met with a really nasty attitude. The chicken meat I got was super chewy and sinewy, and they thickened the sauce with too much cornstarch. It literally left a coating on my tongue. Really this should be one star, but because the spare ribs were decent I'll give it two. Wonton Soup: the broth tasted like water, literal water. There was no flavor at all! None! Hey, it's me again. So it's Wednesday night, happy hump day everybody. I'm sitting here in my 1500 square foot apartment (not to brag, thank you) and I start thinking to myself "man, wish I had the 'Ma right now". Mind you, I've just eaten dinner. Tradey J's shiitake chicken. Not bad stuff. But I got beef and broccoli on the mind. And now my stomach thinks it's hungry again and I don't know which way is up! I was spoiled by the excellent service by our waiter, Tom. I mean, this could quite possibly be the best steakhouse in town. And you know what makes it all better? The fact that when I'm done with this meal and done with this life I'll be visiting my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because I accepted the church of his holiness, Jehovah's Witness. I am disappointed I have to write a second review of Fei Ma. This had been my local Chinese take-out place for a while and I thought that the food was pretty good. Lately, though, it's taken a bad turn. Maybe they are using a new supplier of chicken or something, but I am no longer getting slices of white meat chicken. Instead, I'm getting some sort of composite that is bleached white -- essentially, a Chicken McNugget slathered in a too-thick sauce. The fried wontons were doughy and chewy, not crunchy as they should be, and totally without flavor. The egg roll was the same, dry, chewy and had zero flavor. Fei Ma is one of the best take out Chinese Food places in the East Village. Their steamed dupmlings, plain fried rice, and sweet and sour chicken and sweet and sour pork are my kids favorite dishes as well as my wife and son love the Seafood Delight special. My favorites are the boneless spareribs combo w pork fried rice with extra sauce and I usually ask to have the boneless spare ribs made extra crispy as I like that crunch to the edges of the meat. Its very rare that our orders will ever come messed up, I think once in the past 2 years. It happens and when it did they corrected it immediately which is rare for any delivery place. Our deliveries always arrive under half an hour and we make sure to tip well for great food and fast delivery. Highly recommend Fei Ma for great food!!! read more

Easily the best Chinese delivery food in the East Village. I've been ordering from this place for over a decade and have tried a LOT of the vast menu. The food is very fresh, lots of vegetables (incl my fave bamboo shoots), meat is not fatty or gristly, portions are generous. Greasy apps like spare ribs, dumplings, fried wonton and crab rangoon hit the spot when you need the fix. Duck, butterfly shrimp and General Tso's are very good as are all mu shu and egg foo yung (although you only get 2 pancakes with the mu shu so order extra). Delicious fried rice, brown rice and other healthy alternatives available. Because prices are so low, I usually order a ton of food--soups and quarts of protein/mixed veg in various sauces--to freeze in individual portions for later: healthier and cheaper than making it myself. (Their food is not overly salted unlike other places.) The woman on the phone is very busy but nice as are the delivery guys. Time between ordering and delivery is lightning quick, usually b/w 20-30 minutes. Check the menu as you get free stuff (soda, sesame noodles, etc.) the more you spend. Just moved into the area and decided to try out the local cheap eateries because I'm a cheap college kid living off my parent's income, and of course the first place to go to are the fast food Chinese places. I ordered their sesame chicken here and my god it was at least 75% breading. I don't think I even got a full chicken leg out of that one dish. The sauce was also really heavy and I felt like I was drinking msg syrup. So deep fried bread and syrup = not a good experience. Needless to say I prob won't be coming here again. Two of my other suitemates tried the place out too that day and both agree that this place is one of the lower fast food Chinese places in the area. If you want something consistently decent go to New Chinatown on 3rd and ave d.
