No comment on the quality of their work but disappointed with their customer service. I had an estimation appointment with Fencepro for a small project to redo my balcony floor. I believe it was Dale who came by, met with my husband and promised a quote shortly. I had a few other companies waiting for my response to their quotes, so after 5 days I contacted Fencepro to follow up - they informed me he had gone on vacation and would get back to me in 2-3 weeks. Today, 16 days after the appointment, I received an email that my project is "above [their] area of expertise". I have absolutely no issues if they are not able to take on this work but I should not have had to wait over 2 weeks - and make the other companies I spoke with wait too - for that response. I doubt it took them 2 weeks to figure that out! read more

Pro's- Retaining wall completed. Foreman Steve.The workers that did the job. Con's- Failure to do a correct and full estimate. Failure to do a correct contract. Total lack of professionalism by the owner,Tim Garcia. We had Fence Pro come out and give us a estimate to do 3 retaining walls. At that time and at the beginning of the job,we were assured that the irrigation system and the plants would not be damaged. Then the problems started. Because the first contract was done for only 1 retaining wall (that was only realized the day prior to the start and could have been avoided if they took the time and concern to properly check out the job first), a new contract was brought when work started on June 26.We were told when they started that if they had to work until 8pm to complete the job they would. In the afternoon we were told they would need to come out the next day and could not stay late. We had plans and agreed to have the walk-thru,signed contract and payment the next day. When we came home we found the job completed. There was also damage to the irrigation system in several area's, Also plants were dug up and destroyed. We tried calling both the foreman and the owner (Tim Garcia) several times on Sunday,left messages and no one returned our call. On Tuesday the 30th Mr. Garcia and the foreman came to our home. Mr. Garcia at first was very defensive,pointing out that damage to the irrigation system was not their responsibility and in the contract, which he pointed out "YOU still did not sign".. Clueless that we were told it was going to be picked-up on Sunday. As well for some strange reason he told my wife "You hurt my feelings". We then received yet another contract-with a much higher total. This was due to the fact that they fail to give you a proper or even close estimate of how many man hours it would take.Make sure you get something in writing prior to the job and keep track how long and how many people are at your job or you more than likely be overcharged.As I explained,we were out of town when the job was completed and have no idea (except from them) how many man hours were used. We could have been taken advantage of and had no idea if we were or not. We signed and paid for the job on July 1st. We were given a $200 credit for the plants and they repaired the irrigation system. Because the ordeal was stressful for my wife, (she suffers from asthma) she saw a doctor prior to completion on July 2nd. I only mention this because on July 4th, We received this disturbing email from the owner Tim Garcia. I saved and plan on sharing both Mr. Garcia's email and experience to warn others in the future.Based on this email,lack of professionalism,lack of doing a correct contract and lack of communication, and you can be the judge,I would recommend everyone to stay away from Fence Pro,they are not worth your time and money..To be honest,I really had second thoughts about sharing my experience. But Mr. Garcia sent his disturbing email,day's after I thought we were done,just didn't make sense. I have no idea what made Mr. Garcia attack us after he was paid. I think there is a need to share my experience and warn future customers. If at any time you are not happy or express concern with your job,be ready for a email from the owner Tim Garcia,who has to make himself feel better,by trying to make you feel like you did him wrong. TERRIBLE FOLLOW-UP, FLAKY CUSTOMER SERVICE, and to top it off, it took about (at least?) half-a-dozen visits to FINALLY get my gate working the way it should be! Excuses include being under-staffed/over-worked, back-order on hardware, etc... -- bottom line, these guys don't deserve the business they get for their lack of follow-up, flakiness, and most importantly the poor quality of the work they do!!! read more

I live in San Francisco and have a shared fence with a neighbor. It was end of life. I struggled off and on for 4 months to find someone to replace it. I engaged at least 10 contractors. Received responses from half and ultimately got 4 quotes. All about the same price. I was flabbergasted at the quotes. All l wanted was 70' linear feet, 6' high, redwood with press treated post. Nothing fancy. It wasn't finish carpentry. The received a referral to Fence Pro and thought I'd try again. Dale arrived the day after I called. On time. Prepared. Discussed my options. Educated me. I had a very professional quote 6 hours later. I worked with Sylvia over the next 24 hours to clarify the quote and schedule. I signed the contract and mail the deposit. The job was done the following week. Less than one week between the initial call and construction. The team arrived on time. Worked a full day. Completed the project. They were organized. Cleaned up. Polite. The results were far better than expected. I have construction experience and can be a bit of a stickler. The material were A+ and the workmanship A+. THE MANAGEMENT NEEDS AN OVERHAUL but the workers do good work. Got a bid to replace 2 fences and hired them to replace only one of the fences. I took vaction leave in order to be there for the installation that was to start at 8:30am. They showed up more than 4 hours late during a 1.5 hour window when I was not home and promptly started tearing out the WRONG FENCE with out calling me or checking with my neighbor! My neighbors were not happy. Turns out the head guy Tim didn't even pay attention to the contract that was actually signed and returned. As a result of their showing up late and then having to replace the portion of the fence they should NOT have torn out, they wanted me to take a second vacation day to be there when they finished the fence. Additionally, there were fees that were left out of the bid to make it look lower than the other bids I obtained. I specifically asked Tim if the cost to remove the old fencing (which included removal of a portion of concrete retaining wall) was included in his bid and he said yes. Later I was billed almost $800 for removal of the concrete and dump fees. The other contractors who provided bids included that in their bid because it was obviously part of the job, not something unforseen that was discovered during the work. When I questioned the significant over run Tim was a bully and quickly forgot that I specifically asked about the cost to remove the retaining wall, that his crew was more thatn 4 hours late to start work, that they tore down the WRONG FENCE without checking with anyone and that I was required to take an additional day off work to be there for them to finish the work. The fence that was installed was good work. The worker guys were professional and courteous, not like their management. I will look elsewhere for a contactor the next time I need fence work...as will my neighbors. read more

Like the other yelpers here, I also had issues with fence pro not starting on the actual contracted start date. In addition, we ended up paying several thousands dollars over the estimate because of unforeseen things. Needless to say, we somewhat expected that that might occur, that we'd end up paying more than the estimate. Pros: they did a fantastic job Cons: 1. we were billed for hours when he states on the invoice that there were 2 or 3 employees when in fact there were less because i was home all day (they didn't know I was in the house and would occasionally look outside to check on what was going on) 2. When you have an estimate of about $10,000 and end up paying $15,000 it's kinda hard to stomach 3. They finished a week later than expected (but that wasn't too bad) Overall, I still gave them 4 stars because they did a really good clean up and put in solid retaining walls and a nice fence. I never met the owner but Dale was really nice. read more

Wonderful people to work with, Silvia, Dale the estimator, the crew and of course Tim Garcia, the owner. I've never written a review before in my life, probably why it didn't work when I thought it posted the first time. I couldn't be happier with my new deck. The guys who installed the fence were great. They worked hard and did a good job. Our lot is 110 feet deep, and 90 feet of that fence is absolutely fantastic. It's straight as an arrow and the postholes were dug really deep. The fence is solid as a rock. The job foreman built a great gate for us as well. They got it all done in one day, as promised. So...for the guys who actually built our fence...five stars. Absolutely! Now, for the organizing end of things,....one star. The measurer/estimator came out and wrote up an estimate. Included in the measuring process was the fact that 20 feet of fencing was going to need to be done with longer-than-standard boards. After two revisions of the contract (which took multiple telephone calls on my part, to get a response from Fencepro's owner) the contract still came back with incorrect lengths of boards for that 20 feet. I called the office, the woman on the phone said...not a big deal, take it up with the foreman..... which I tried to do. He was a very good guy, and I have no doubts about his work ethic or honesty but subtleties in communication were difficult. Upshot...we have a fence with the wrong size boards on it, for 20 feet. The owner of Fencepro refuses to make it right without charging for it. Upshot is....DO NOT TRUST the "word" of Fencepro. GET EVERY DETAIL IN THE CONTRACT. ---EVERY detail. --- The owner was late to an appointment to negotiate the re-do of the incorrect 20 boards and tried to turn it into my fault, because he didn't have my cell phone number. Yet his office has communicated with me by cell phone! HIS secretary made the appointment! The owner may or may not return phone calls. They seem unable to keep track of phone numbers. The office may or may not return phone calls. I have to be fair...I trusted the woman on the phone at FencePro, that we could make it right between myself and the foreman, so the contract specifies the wrong size of board. I signed the contract. I signed it believing that we could "make it right" the day the fence was installed. I should have sent the contract back AGAIN to get the right size boards put on the contract, and when the workmen showed up with the wrong boards, should have refused the delivery. Instead, I trusted the woman on the phone that "we'll make it right". They won't.. Since the cost of buying the boards to do it right, myself, is about $150 I'm just going to have to bust out the boards they put and do it myself, and pay the company. No, I'm not happy about it, though sawing and nailing up 20 boards is no big deal. I feel that the job should be done *Right*. It's not. Once again, 90% of this fence is gorgeousl The work crew did a great job. The problem is not with the guys building the fence. My experience is much the same as one or two others here at YELP. The guys putting the fence in are great...they're hard workers, they do a great job. The Office and the owner...not so much. read more

I highly recommend fence pro. My 20-year old wooden curbside mailbox post was rotting away at the base and about to fall over, along with a fence side door. The curbside mailbox post is an unusual project, but FencePro can do it. Dale came out pretty promptly to do the estimate, and the crew was out the next week to do both projects. He was forthright and fair in pricing, even recommending that I get the new mailboxes on my own so that he won't have to charge me for them. They were very careful digging the new concrete foundation of the posts - they work with PG&E to mark utilities before digging. FencePro poured a concrete foundation and installed anchoring rods, to ensure that the new mailbox post will withstand the weather. The foreman involved me with every appropriate detail, asked good questions, and the craftsmanship was terrific -- he was able to replicate the exact look of the current mailbox post on my street. The fence door project was a piece of cake for these guys -- the foremen gave me a choice of hinges and made good recommendations given the strong prevailing winds in my area. The only reason this is not a 5-star review is that they are so busy that Dale ran late on his estimates appointment and the crew started a half day late on my project -- but they all showed up, were courteous and professional, and did the job well. read more

The folks at FencePro fundamentally changed the look and feel of my backyard into something that I can now enjoy for years to come... and that has increased the value of my property! We built four new retaining walls and a couple of new stairs. I live in San Francisco, and have a challenging situation in the backyard... as we are on a steep hill - and - access to the backyard is only possible by coming through my home!! Standing ovation for FencePro! I would give them more than 5 stars if I could. The heavy rains in February caused a mudslide across the road from my home in rural Woodside. The mudslide also destabilized 3 or 4 Douglas firs that fell across the road and crushed several sections of our wood fence. The Bay Area fencing companies were all understandably busy during that rough time--we certainly weren't the only ones who had trouble--but FencePro promptly sent an experienced estimator up to our property and they generated a detailed estimate for replacement of the damaged fence that our homeowner's insurance company accepted and paid out in full. After receiving the insurance payment we scheduled the work with FencePro and they were absolutely fantastic. They sent a very experienced and skilled crew up to do the work. The FencePro crew replaced our damaged fence and gate in a single day and hauled away all of the old, damaged wood. We were thrilled with the work they did! The new redwood fence is sturdy and absolutely beautiful construction! The wooden gate they built for us is actually quite a bit superior to the old one we had--they used much higher quality hinges, latch, and other hardware than our previous fence builder did, and it all works perfectly. My recent experience with this company was excellent from start to finish. They came as scheduled to review the site and their estimate was complete when they said it would be. Based on other bids, I got back to them with questions and they responded promptly. In fact, I received a call from the owner to answer a couple of my questions. When clarification was required on the lattice that should be used, the office emailed me pictures of the alternatives so I could make an informed decision. On the day of the scheduled install, Raphael and his crew arrived on time. They consulted me whenever there was a question as to how something should be done. They installed 35 ft of fence and a gate. The fence looks great and the gate was very well done. The crew was always professional and left the site at least as clean as they found it. Excellent company. Very professional and courteous employees and outstanding (I really mean outstanding) work. Got a side fence replaced couple weeks ago and everything was done as planned. They were on time all three days and cleaned up throughly after the job. I was pleasantly surprised that one of my gates (that was attached to the fence that was being replaced) needed repairs and these guys just quietly repaired it while fixing it back to the new fence. my neighbor and I both contributed and had a new fence built. Contractor showed up on time for original estimate. I did a little research and determined minor problem with State Board of Contractor. I called Fence Pro and determined that they were aware of the issue and had corrected it, they quickly provided me evidence that the issue had been corrected. Over the few weeks prior to the job, we had a few telephone conversations, they are quick to answer and are friendly. Work was done on time, fence looks great and feels solid. I am going to have them come back and do some more work for me. Price was fine, about he middle estimate. They have done a few other fences in our neighborhood and everyone seems happy with the work. Major design flaw in the fence included multiple water traps which caused early wood rot-the company agreed that the wood should not have rotted so quickly and replaced 19 out of 29 rotted boards even though all premature rot was caused by the same design flaw-the workers didn't bring enough boards with them and were in a hurry to get to their next job...The owner/manager will not communicate with me re the situation. read more

I had FencePro replace my front yard lattice fence and repair two other fence in my back yard. There was a lot of fencing to replace since this was a corner lot. Tim arrived in a timely manner to make to come over for the estimate and give a detailed explanation of the work, the foreman came by the day before the project to check on exactly what was to be done and the following day they sent a drew of seven to do the work.
