Sean took one look at my car and told me to hold on before spending that kind of money. He personally buffed out a large scrape along the side of my car, and it now looks almost like new. What really blew me away is that he didn't charge me anything. That level of honesty and kindness is rare, especially in an industry where it's easy to overquote. They filed fraudulent supplemental claims for nonexistent repairs in order to compensate themselves for warranty work For mismatched paint repairs. I had a terrible experience with Fender Mender. They give you an estimate and then find many ways to raise the prices after they have the car. They will change their own evaluation of the damage to get more and more money. The guy who gives the estimates is much like a used car salesman, one hand slapping you on the back and the other on your wallet. They boast 30 years in business yet have no BBB rating. Then they tell her it's going to take 5 hours to fix when I know I could do it for less than 30 minutes. On top of that one of the guys made sexual jokes to my girlfriend. I recently had work done on my Rav4 due to a tree limb falling on it during a microburst. Fender Mender did a fantastic job. They had the dents fixed, the hood and roof repaired and repainted in under a week! The job is fantastic and I feel like I have a new car. Called Fender Mender Lexi set up an appointment that day at 4:30 with Tammy and brought the vehicle in so Tammy could take pictures and start the Repair Estimate! My car was fixed in a few days, they began working on my vehicle the day I dropped it off, I was updated throughout the entire repair, everyone was pleasant ect. There is little done right in this Fender Mender- a repair they estimated would take 5-8 business days took twice as long, they could not estimate a completion date, they sent contradictory messages within the space of 2 hours and the manager has zero customer skills. The repair was completed eventually, but at the price of many nagging calls and messages when they refused to tell me when my car was scheduled to be complete. Took my car there a couple of years ago and they did a nice job of repairing it so I decided to take my car back to get an estimate on a bumper repair. They charged me $50. for the estimate but said I'd get the money back when I had it repaired by them. When they called me the day before my repair appointment, I asked if they were going to deduct the $50. when I paid them the amount my insurance already paid me. The guy on the phone said they told me at the time of the estimate I would only give it back if I was a self pay, not an insurance paid repair. This was not the truth! The guy I spoke to was very rude and spoke over the top of me the whole time I explained that was not what I was told. I never raised my voice with him even though he wouldn't let me speak. I told the guy on the phone that I told the man doing the estimate I was going to file it with my insurance. I would have never given them $50. for an estimate if I was not going to get it back. My husband called the morning we were to drop the car off and the guy did the same to him by speaking over him the whole time. My husband asked to speak to the manager at this point. When my husband pointed out to her that even their website says they give free estimates, she said that I was very rude to the guy on the phone the day before and that maybe we should go someplace else! First of all I was never rude to him, he was VERY rude to me by speaking over me the whole time. The manager was also extremely rude and very unprofessional. These guys are yahoos. I took my car here for a relatively minor repair and I had to return 8 times for them to get the work even close to done correctly. That is not an exaggeration. 8 visits. Even then, they didn't do what I would call quality work. I just got so tired of dealing with them that I went to a different shop. I am now having my car repainted 18 months after they painted it, because of their shoddy work. Maybe if you have a mid-eighties American car you will be fine here, but if your car is new or foreign and you actually care about how it looks, avoid this place. read more

Rude staff, too busy to worry about the customers. I had some work done here before and things went slowly but due to location and convenience, I thought I would return. Big mistake..... Rude people, won't even look at your car to order parts without an appointment in 4 days.... my accident was a Hit and Run and my bumper is half on and half off, they couldnt even look at the car...... Its called FENDER MENDER. Dear Fender Mender...... Your customers are the bread and butter of your business, it would be a good business practice to be kind and accomodating. Most folks coming into your shop are already stressed out due to the situation, in this business you think you would be more sensitive to these situations. There were no phone calls regarding updates to the car. It was there for 6 wks due to Ford part issues, but my insurance agent & myself were not contacted via phone. I did receive text messages (3 total) noting that my car had been checked in, that it was to be ready Jan. 7th, then another yesterday stating it would be ready Feb. 4th. The only call I received was to my husband letting them know the car was ready. I was told 1/13 that it would be ready no later than 1/19. When I called to check in, I had Tommy explained his political views while being condescending & rude. When I asked to have someone tell me exactly what was done to the car when I picked it up, he stopped after I used the word 'sh*t' which was not directed at him & he knew that. He refused to let me record what was done to the car via video. I was trying to do so so I could show it to my husband, my mechanic & another body shop b/c so many people have said this shop is shady. The manager, who had no idea what was going on, what my warranty entailed or even what was done to the car, came out & so did Tommy. If a customer goes to the manager, it's not professional to bring that volatile employee back out to speak in his condescending tone, again. They spoke about me while standing only a few feet away & laughed & continued to be condescending. A very personal item was stolen from the car from the center console where they had no reason to be. I should have filed a police report. They tacked on an extra 2K, which was only told to the agent within a few hours of my call. The bumper does not match the color of the rest of the car. I'm going to a Ford dealership today to verify that as well. I've asked both my insurance company & BBB to look into the labor hours they are claiming. They were obviously lying to me about how long they worked on my car yesterday. I base that on common sense & discussions with reliable mechanics & another person with experience in performing body work. The attitude from Bob & Tommy was bad enough, but then to claim hours they didn't do is simply fraudulent. I will never be able to replace what was stolen from my car as they were from my deceased father. My advice :If you have to utilize this company, be diligent. Call frequently. Request documentation of everything. Be sure to remind them that their political views are their own & it's unprofessional to share them with customers. Stay away from Tommy. He should not be interacting with customers ever again. Be sure to take tons of pics or videos (if the employee is willing to be transparent about what they did to your car). Nothing but love for Fender Mender. I was rear ended and the tail end of my Miata was toast. State Farm sent me to FM for an estimate and I elected to have my car repaired there. They set me up with a rental at Enterprise next door and kept me posted on the progress of the repair via email. It took a couple weeks but when I got my Miata back, she looked amazing. They detailed the interior and exterior. I love the complimentary Keurig, granola bars and candy. Everyone who works there is pleasant and efficient. They made a yucky car accident actually pleasant. Don't go there if you are involved in a collision with someone who has GEICO insurance. Take it to your own personal mechanic or the dealership for quality repairs. Don't even make the an appointment with the GEICO on site adjuster, make them come to the shop you choose where a QUALIFIED technician will have your best interest in mind. They get much of their business from GEICO and are more concerned about the cost than they are about repairing your vehicle to the state it was in prior to the accident. I found several things that weren't addressed when I went to pick it up the first time and the owner/manager Tom, apologized and was surprised it made it through "quality control". He assured me that the issues he agreed were caused by the accident would be repaired. They were not! Very disappointed that I chose them and would NOT recommend again! read more

I have never met such rude staff. I have gotten my car repaired at the Fender Mender in Mt Pleasant before so I thought it would be okay to get my car fixed here at this one in West Ashley. I was very wrong. I called Fender Mender after I got off work at 4pm Friday April 8th. The soonest they could get me in for an estimate was Thursday Morning, almost a week away. I said okay. I called today Wednesday April 13th at 9am so confirm that my appointment for my estimate was at 9:30am or 9:45am tomorrow, I wasn't sure which. I will start off by saying the girl who picked up the phone showed me so much attitude and was so unbelievably condescending. I called and started off the conversation with "hi I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get an estimate on my car repair and unsure of the time" from there I figured she's ask my name, car make and model or even the time. She replied back with "Well... What is you name" as rude as I have ever heard. That started off the experience bad for me. Then it turns out they never put me down for an appointment and they had open availability tomorrow to fit me in. Here I'm thinking, why did they make me wait a week to come in? The whole experience was awful. Finally I asked to speak to her manager about the situation as she quickly snaps back "he's busy right now and can't talk to you". WORST experience with a car repair shop and I didn't even get the estimate yet! Never go to fender mender. You would rather give your business to a company that can keep you on their books when they first make them and to a staff that is a lot nicer and treats you with respect than Fender Mender. I was hit recently and the person's insurance gave me my options where I could take my car. Many years ago and a different vehicle I was rear ended and took my vehicle here and had a great experience. In, out no fuss and a good job. Sadly, not this time. The customer service is in dire need of improvement. When I dropped off my car two employees were arguing over the phone over who got me. Evidently you do not want to go there during lunch time because that comes first in their books. My car that was suppose to take 3 days turned into 7 days (even the insurance rep didn't understand why they kept it so long). I had a hard time getting a correct answer as to if my car was done or not (one time I called they said it was done, but when I called back the next day to check they told me they were just sending it off for the edging). Then when I was notified that my car was done I went to get it immediately (15 minutes to get there) and there was a guy gluing a piece back on my car and the car had white paste on the door which I had to ask the guy to go try to get off. I wish I was done with them with that, but I had to bring my car back the next day because of a sensor problem (which I think they gave me a BS answer). Supposedly, when they unplugged my battery it messed up the code. I'm not a car person, but I know that when you unplug the battery it resets everything (clock, presets, etc.) which were just fine when I got in the car and I seriously doubt they would set all that back out of the kindness of their heart. In conclusion, if I need a repair shop I will go else where next time because of the employees most of all. And one last thing, even though it's not actually a cigarette, I still wouldn't let the staff sit there and puff away on their e-cig inside the office. Extremely unprofessional! On the rental car side of the business; the first car they gave me reeked of cigarette smoke (even with the no smoking sticker on the dash) and I had to get another rental vehicle. read more

I would suggest going somewhere else. They estimated that my truck would take 4-6 days,and it ended up being 2 and a half weeks. They broke a chrome piece off my truck while trying to paint it. Then, when they re ordered it they got black instead of chrome, so I had to wait even longer for the part to come in. I had to pay for a rental car this whole time also. When I finally got my truck back, the door they repaired did not lock/unlock, dome light did not work correctly, and there was no manual lock unlock switch on my door. Had to go back there and drop it off for another day for them to fix all of that. I will say that they did reimburse me 60$ for my rental after me asking NUMEROUS times. I also asked to speak to a manager numerous times and they never had the decency to come and talk to me. I will never be going back here. read more

I am quite pleased with Fender Menders. Some idiot pulled out in front of me and did quite a bit of damage to my precious FJ. Toyota and Geico recommended them for the repairs. The staff was great and kept me updated. They hooked me up with a sweet rental and the work once completed was awesome. I will never be reminded of that idiot. Not recommended. Though the staff is amiable and helpful, the service and processes involved were sub-par. For a hit-and-run accident, I had to go to the shop 4 times over a period of about one month, and that's with them mailing me a part, so I didn't have to come in a 5th time. When I came in the first time to pick up my truck, they told me they were sorry, but it wasn't actually ready yet. They weren't happy with the paint job, which I appreciated them being honest about, but that trip wasted an hour of my time. Since they're not open on the weekend, I had to have a rental for about 2 weeks. When I came in to pick up my truck the 2nd time, the cap on my rim was still damaged from the accident. I was told, "That's weird. They should have replaced that. If you could come in, later this week, we should have it." I didn't want to come in again, so I asked them to mail the part to me. A week went by without the part, so I called to confirm. "It should be in the mail." Almost another week went by before the part was post-dated and shipped. By then, I realized that some of the "Bondo" materials used to repair my truck had run and splattered all over my truck. I took it in AGAIN. They were understanding and offered to detail my truck. They basically just washed it, but I appreciated the gesture. Overall, I approve of the customer-facing staff, but in the end, it comes down to the quality of the work and time wasted, both of which were disappointing. read more

Maybe the Mt Pleasant branch is better; try them. The girls upfront are rushed and impolite. They speak loud, quick and interrupt before you convey your statement. The rep I dealt with told me my vehicle would take one day. I scheduled two weeks in advance so I could be first in and first out, but that one day was later redefined as a 24-hour cycle that could spread over the course of 3 or 4 days. I did not misunderstand my conversation either; one day is what I was told. I had a couple of scratches buffed and re-painted. The rep that redefined "one day" was very rude, and spoke over me when I explained I was told "one day" and ended up not having the use of my car for three days. He showed no empathy and spoke to me like I was a moron. Their customer service is terrible. read more

Would never recommend to anyone. My experience be warned. What was estimated was not what they charged the insurance company and above the quoted cost. The time was 5 days I got the car back and it took 2 weeks. The paint job had orange peel and lines where they taped the part off that they didn't paint. Did NOT use BMW paint which was specified. If you have a BMW you'll understand. Shop argued with me and stated "ORANGE PEEL" was on every vehicle! Really ? When I took the car to another shop to fix they had removed the engine cover screws and never replaced. I had leaves from a tree embedded on both sides of the interior of hood and it took the cleaning company an hour to get them out. The car was hit on the side and the brake pads slipped ruined my rotters and was never replaced even when I requested they be checked. Whats worse is the staff for Geico was not present when I picked up the car. I left the rep a note and requested he call me the following morning! That was 3 weeks ago. Have left 3 messages for him and been to his office and still no response. The Rental car company was nice but charged me a dollar to see if my credit card was active? Really? and wanted me to pay for there insurance because supposedly if the rental car was wrecked I had to pay my deductible to them? Con artist. The whole group! read more

Do not take any vehicle here! When I complained about the lies and work they said I just wanted a new truck. I owned a new RV, 1 year old Toyota Camry and another vehicle at the time. I wrecked my WORK truck. This was a little dodge dakota quad cab that I used to haul things. Geico was my insurer and they suggested Fender Mender. They said it needed a whole new front assembly due the damage from the broken knuckle. Long story short they put the wrong weights on the rim when they balanced the tire. I told them it was knocking when I turned and drove awful. After arguing with me he saying they didn't even have those weights. He finally admitted they did put the weights on and did have them in stock. They tried to align my truck about 5 times. I felt unsafe when I would go over any small bump it was all over the road. He tried to tell me that everyone knows there is high middle humps on the roads of Charleston. I finally told Geico that I wanted to take the truck to Jeep since it was a Dodge. Jeep aligned the truck first try. They told me that fender mender had the numbers backwards and there was loose bolts all over the front end. He said it was like turning the handle bars backwards on a bicycle. He didn't know how I was driving it. I said I didn't because it was all over the road. 5 times fender mender had an opportunity and all they did was make excuses from humps in the road, a truck just drives like this, we don't even have those weights for balancing....on and on. You can look at BBB for my review and see what they said. They blasted me saying I just wanted a new truck. This was an insult to an already awful experience.
