After months of preparing for a major repair on our car, we knew it was going to be expensive. For my non FB having fiance- I'm posting this review. Had a mechanic (Honest-1 Auto in West Ashley) botch an oil change which my regular mechanic discovered about 3 weeks later. Honest-1 didn't replace the filter housing correctly and my 2019 4Runner was noticeably low on oil when it was discovered. Fast forward - my engine now has internal damage and either needs to be replaced or rebuilt (in part). My main mechanic (Japanese Import Pros) confidently stated that the problem with my engine is result of being driven on low oil. Honest confirmed that there is internal damage, after their "master mechanic" changed other parts I didn't actually need and the problem still persisted. They actually denied hearing anything initially. Honest-1 ran me low on oil originally Honest-1 told me it wasn't an internal issue, replaced functioning parts with factory equiv OEM parts that I didn't need (problem still exists). They waived corrective oil change charges and replacement parts charges (covering their tracks) Changed their story twice Signed me up for a line of credit that I never asked for (told me they finance work if needed, but actually signed me up for a credit card instead) They are offering one solution, they tear apart the engine to assess before they do anything for me. Why would I allow them to do that after all of this? A shop that damaged my vehicle wants to disassemble the engine to prove they didn't do anything?!? GM has been communicating just fine- though I found out my neighbor took them to small claims and they were ordered to pay and never did. Just a fair and factual warning to everyone who considers this shop. I have heard good things about this Honest-one Auto care in Charleston. I was hesitant to try since the Honest-one in Northern Virginia had been such a disappointment. However, they had a good deal on an oil change so I went in today and they could not have been more thorough, considerate and efficient. I received my oil change within 40 minutes. They recommended that I rotate my tires, but did not try to upsell me. I got a discount with my coupon and the owner was actually working today. Her name is Cherie and she couldn't have been nicer. Two word. Please avoid! Don't go here! What a rip off, I know how to work on my car and what they are charging is bad bad bad. I told them I just paid $400 to have my aC system vaccum down, leak tested and refilled and it needs a new compressor. I asked him if they could simply vacuum out my Freon. I will swap my compressor over and they can put it back in and they were going to charge me over $400. That's the cost of having to all new Freon put in in a full AC service. This shop preys on customers who may not fully understand car maintenance, especially the elderly. I recently had my parents' car serviced here, and I replaced all four original tires with Pirelli P Zero tires. When one tire got a puncture that couldn't be repaired, the shop failed to inform us that it was covered by a lifetime road hazard warranty. Instead, they replaced it with an unfamiliar, lower-quality brand--iMove Gen 3, a tire commonly found at Walmart for just $80. Let me start by saying I have given 2 out of 5 stars. They did fix my car so I gave them 2 stars. Below is why they didn't get a higher rating. 1. Poor communication 2. Not sure if they are really that Honest and if you don't want to read this entire thing it is because they told me that I needed a new battery and it would cost 400 dollars for them to put it in to run diagnostics on the starter when I didn't. My starter went out in my car, and I was less than a quarter of a mile from Honest-1 Auto care, so I called them. I already knew people that had dealt with them before, and I knew that they were going to be higher than say Pep boys but for the convenience of them being so close I was willing to pay more. They arranged the tow and got my truck and was told that they would be able to diagnose it that day. I walk there and fill out a form and then I get a text saying that I would receive future text on the status of my car. I never received a text. The next day it was close to 2 p.m. and I hadn't heard anything, so I texted the number. Waited an hour and still didn't hear anything so I called. They told me that my battery was so dead that they needed to put in a new battery in it before they could diagnose if it was the starter. The cost would be about 400 dollars. The battery that was in there was not even 3 years old. So, I told them that I would get a new battery because that one is still under warranty and put it in. I did just that and I also brought my voltage meter and tested it. It showed 12.44 volts. I kept that battery and put in the new one (this took me about 5 minutes to do). It was near the end of the day, and they told me that they would diagnose that it is the starter first thing in the morning. While I was there, I asked them if they had received my text and they said yes but it was just really busy so they didn't have time to reply. Again, I am waiting until around 2 p.m. and still heard nothing. I texted and still didn't hear anything, so I went there. They said that they would run the diagnostic in about an hour. I asked another person if they got my text. She asked me what number I was texting. I said that I was replying to the number that they sent me. She sent me a different number to text to. They called me in about an hour and yes it was the starter. They had the new one put in in about an hour later and I got my first text saying the truck was done. When I went to pick up my truck the first thing that I did was put in my old battery. Remember it was so dead that they couldn't run the diagnostics. If that was the case then it should not be able to start the car right? My car started right up. read more

I visited Honest-1 to have two nails pulled from my tire and have the tire patched. Somehow, the nails did not puncture the tire, which is why the tire pressure light never came on. In spite of this, the manager told the guy at the front desk to charge me for patching the tire. I paid more than I ever paid not to patch my tire than I ever paid before. There are not enough excellent words that I can say about this place. Honest-1 Auto Care was recommended by CarMax for any maintenance work that will be needed for my 2017 GMC. Every time I get an oil change, it is quick and effecience. I do not have to wait all day for the service. Just recently, I got a nail in my tire, and it had to be replaced. I was in and out in about an hour and a half. This time frame included, my tire being brought in from another location. I love this place. read more

If I could give this business zero stars, I would. I had an extensive brake job done there and requested an oil change. At time to pick up my vehicle, I was given the amount due. When I got to the shop 30 minutes later, $75 had been added to the bill and the counter person, Erin, blamed the change on the mechanics. I was billed for an oil change that didn't happen, and I have now found that I have to have the work redone. I was charged almost $1,500.00 for the brake job. They kept adding to the bill. Each time I spoke with that girl, they added more to the job and more money to the job. You have to be able to trust a company to do their job at the reasonable price they gave you. I let the overcharge go and I let the non existent oil change go, but when I found out I had to have the brakes redone, I decided it was time to say something. I have spoken to the manager. I hate to write this review after so many positive experiences here, but something has changed. Staffing, scheduling, management ... something. The last two times that I've made appointments, I've arrived early or on time, and each time, I've been delayed and end up late for work. This last time, I made an appointment for a 7:30am appointment for an oil change. I checked in at 7:20am and sat down for a while. At 8:15am, my car was still outside in the parking lot... untouched. I stood up to say something to the woman at the counter, and she immediately stated that my car was just about to go in for service. I mentioned the fact that my appointment was at 7:30, and it's now 8:15, and I needed to be to work by 9am. At 8:45, my car was ready and I checked out. An oil change appointment never used to take this long. I understand if I just walked in without an appointment, but not with an appointment. She gave me a 10% discount for the inconvenience, but honestly, I would've preferred prompt customer service, and been done in even 30 minutes. read more

I made an appointment for friday morning at 7 a.m. I called around noon and the idiot at the front desk said "well can either keep it longer or i can give it to a different technician". Obviously i asked for a different tech. She assured me that she would call me herself when they knew something. I heard nothing, then when I called Saturday morning she said they hadn't had time to get to it yet but they would get on it right away. 5 minutes later I got a text that they had done an "inspection" (they looked at the dashboard". I got an oil change here and had a great experience. Honest-1 is located near my house, so convenience was a big factor, but they were also featured in a local newspaper recently. Honest-1 is a franchise and a lady from James Island runs the company, and when you visit, you can tell it's a very lady-friendly car care facility. In fact, this is one of the few auto care establishments where a female helped me at the desk. First, the waiting area is quite nice. It has cushy chairs, ipads, satellite TV, and a play area for children. You can also get complimentary coffee, soda, bottled water, juice, and some snacks like donuts and cookies were out for us. There were some magazines and newspapers out to read, and everything was current, not outdated. I had a coupon for the oil change and it was honored with no questions asked- you can find coupons on their website. They recommended a few services, but nothing major and did not try to sell me on things I didn't need. The coolest part was going out to my car to leave and finding a thank you note and a package of Oreo cookies in the front seat. How fun is that? Everyone and every company make mistakes, but the true measure of a company is how they manage them. Based on my experience you should think twice before ever going to Honest 1 Auto Care... here is what happened or should I say did not happen. I gave a very detailed description of a loud clunking sound coming from the left front end of the car on 08/30/2022. The detail description would typically mean a problem with tie-rods however I found out later that Honest 1 ignored the tie-rods because they "looked" new. How incompetent not to check them anyway. Honest 1 instead diagnosed the problem to be the right front axle and so I authorized them to fix it for $400+. By they way, it appears they mark-up parts at 100% that seems extremely high for parts they simply have delivered to order. After the axle was replaced, the Manager, Skye, said they got rid of "most of the noise," which was not true, there was zero change in noise, and Skye said, on further inspection, that yes, in fact the inner tie-rod was loose. Honest 1 claims they do a "comprehensive inspection" of every car, yet they did not check to see if the tie-rod was loose because it looked new? A pothole can break a new tie-rod just as easy as an old looking tie-rod. Honest 1 takes no responsibility for their misdiagnosis. I made two reasonable offers to resolve the matter that even the Honest 1's Service Advisor, Kevin said, " was reasonable", but the Honest 1 Manager, Skye, did not return my calls on Thursday (09/01), my 2nd call on Friday (09/01), not on Saturday (09/02) nor after labor day on my 3rd call on Tuesday (09/06), forcing me to file with the BBB and SC Consumer Complaint. This is an extremely frustrating situation when the Manager refuses to return calls to discuss issues of their work as well as ignoring my very reasonable offer to cure their mistake. They take absolutely no responsibility whatsoever for this obvious misdiagnosis and made zero concessions on fixing the real problem except to give me a normal discount given to all customers on their website for work over $300. read more

Luckily I was next door when voluminous smoke came billowing from under my hood, I thought my car would burst into flames at any minute! I had never been to Honest-1 Auto Repair but was at their mercy to fix my car. I had just picked up alot of groceries and was not prepared for an auto emergency! I was pleasantly surprised to find friendly, kind professionals, assuring me my car could be repaired soon. Their process was completely transparent, estimating everything in separate components, letting me choose which things to fix, as I had recently had repairs, and didn't need everything they listed. They showed me the broken part, a cracked coolant pipe I had never replaced before. They fixed it perfectly for a reasonable price. They even put my perishable groceries in their refrigerator and had me back on the road in a couple of hours! Nice people, excellent service, comfortable waiting room...who could ask for more! This place is hit or miss...lately it was a miss. Started out with an oil change coupon for synthetic $53, which doubled by the time I'll left...special oil filter and an extra quart. Because I had a 10:00 appt and my car didn't move until 10:45 I received a discount of $25... nice of them to do it...Five days later the under carriage splash guard that protects the underside of the engine dislodged while doing 65 mph on highway 17 near Clemson Research and I stopped to see what was causing the racket and immediately took the car back. To my surprise they told me there were some issues with the clips and they would have to drill-out some of the corroded clips...why not when I had the car in for the oil change...another two days go by and there is a giant puddle of oil in my driveway... oil was below minimum and I had to add oil to get the car back to determine the issue...they knew right away...wrong drain plug washer was used...they put the correct washer on and reimbursed me for the oil I purchased...,my daughter suggested I get them to pay for the oil clean up... I believe my van was in the shop for almost 20 days. When I finally came to pick up my van the rear back window on the driver side was completely gone, and then had been taped over. When I asked about it, I was told they thought that it came in like the off of the tow truck. When I left the van and the tow truck driver, my window was indeed intact and not shattered, it was fine, and I could go through a car wash with that car and have no issues. The police officer could not see any good views of this window at the time the vehicle came in, so until investigators look at it and determine if they can find any better views, I have to pay out of pocket to get my window replaced, because I only have liability right now. It was either brought into them like that because the tow truck driver broke it on accident, or the window did indeed get broken while it was on shop grounds. Nonetheless they completely took the window off and cleaned all evidence of any window ever being there or being broken from the vehicle, and never alerted me about it once. I have had so much communication in the long amount of time that my van was in the shop, and there is only one good reason the manager never brought this up to me. It's really not rocket science lol. Good Afternoon, I brought my 2013 Toyota Tacoma in with a morning appointment on Saturday. For my blower motor only working on high speed. They informed me that it was a faulty resistor. This is held in my 2 bolts and a plug which is very easily accessible. In addition, that I had to pay a shop fee for supplies which the job doesn't require any supplies. Service advisor spoke with the manager (Sky) and the fee was incorrect. I'm happy that we were able to come to that resolution. As the part was ordered and to be here within 20-30 minutes. 45 minutes went by they told me they are taking too long to bring it. So they are going to go pick it up, If they would of picked it up in the beginning, over an hour would of been cut off my time spent at the Honest 1 Auto. After getting the part, they found out the truck needs a new wiring pigtail which would take even longer. I had to reschedule for later in the week. (Tuesday) 3 hours of waiting to find this out This is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) T-SB-0062-21 from Toyota which has been around for over a year. I spoke with the manager (Sky) the day before my appointment. Very nice women, she ensured the job will be completed properly. My second time coming in for my rescheduled appointment, waited 2 hours for a new connector to crimped and new resistor to be installed. This didn't fix the issues I was told. I asked if the wiring was done properly to the new connector and was told it was. They told me their master tech would have to look at the truck now and I could come back Thursday. So I left drove down the road and looked at the TSB & wiring diagram. Which according to Toyota they wired it incorrect and didn't follow the correct procedures in wiring the truck. I brought it back immediately to show the manager (Sky). She saw it was improperly done, and told me I could come back to get the master tech to fix it. After 2 terrible experiences 5 hours of waiting I informed her I will repair it properly myself. With my prior experience of being an Auto Technician prior to joining the Military, I was able to properly follow Toyota's standards in fixing the repair myself. This work was submitted under my warranty company which I did have to pay anything out of pocket, but they will. I informed my warranty company on this matter. At the end of the day, I wasted over 5 hours of my time, my own money in buying the correct but connectors to repair the wire. I hope in the future Honest 1 Auto can continue to grow as a company and become better. I DON'T recommend any of my friends, family or service members to bring their vehicle here for any type of work. They left my air intake hose unhooked, causing my vehicle to completely stall out and stop while driving in the middle of the road. They were probably hoping I would simply just return to their place of business so they could address these problems, but obviously as these problems were not there before I got an oil change, it was clearly the scum bags that work here that caused these problems. They also didn't properly replace the dipstick and when they shut the hood they broke it & shattered plastic pieces all over the engine compartment. They were probably upset that I wouldn't 'upgrade to synthetic oil' or 'change my air filter', & we're trying to get more of my money. I totally get that. Today, however, I was treated more poorly than any other customer service interaction I've ever had, and by the owner no less. I have put around $1800 into fixing an issue with my car in the last 10 months and the issue keeps happening, so naturally I bring it back because they warrantee their work and that is a lot of money. Today after having my car for 7 hours with no resolution, the owner says "I'm not talking to that girl about that Chevy again." I'm sorry but 1.
