I went into the shop because I had thought I needed my ear re-pierced and I explained everything to the gentleman at the store. He easily could've said I do and charge me for an ear piercing service. However, after a swift inspection of my piercing, he said my earring was just bent and there was no need to get a piercing service! A silly mistake on my behalf but I am thankful for his honesty about my situation as he could've charged me otherwise for a service that was unnecessary. He even refused to take a tip from me after fixing my earring and reassuring me all was good with my ears! 10/10 service! read more

DO NOT COME HERE FOR PIERCINGS. The guy who pierced my ears was so rude and a know it all. Told me if I followed his directions to use salt water to clean and not rotate my earrings that they would heal in 2 weeks. Within a week both piercings were infected. Not to mention it was $100 total for 2 piercings and crappy jewelry. I couldn't buy any jewelry that looked cute he said I had to pierce with ugly silver ball earrings. So the price for added jewelry isn't worth it unless you want ugly earrings. AND he was super rough and didn't pierce quickly he got the hook or whatever he used in half way, stopped, and then kept going. Way more painful than it needed to be. Ok if I could give this sh*thole less than 1 star I would, I'm writing this review again to elaborate on my whole experience at Fenix. Last winter my friend and I stopped by Fenix to get some ear piercings on a whim (since they are open late). Upon entering the creepy looking place, we were greeted by Ty who proceeded to not just list a bunch of fraudulent qualifications (a pilot? a biologist? premed?...), but also mentioned how we didn't 'need' to show ID since they didn't really care. After ranting about how female musicians shouldn't be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, he finally got ready to pierce us. I decided on getting my tragus pierced, and Ty proceeded to mark me with a used sharpie and continue to explain how the sanitization procedures used by other piercing places are bullsh*t. After piercing me, he noticed I had a slightly infected helix piercing as well, and kept insisting on changing out my surgical steel stud to some jewelry he had in the shop, and unfortunately I eventually agreed (he really didn't make it seem like I had an option, and both my friend and I were beginning to get creeped out and wanted to leave ASAP). Afterwards, he claimed we could change out the jewelry within 3 to 7 days (which is absolutely horrid advice unless you want a gnarly infection). The next few days were grueling. My tragus swelled up, was insanely painful and led to two separate trips to REPUTABLE piercers to change out the jewelry and properly sanitize both my tragus and helix; the jewelry that Ty had used was literally turning the skin around my piercings black, and causing severe irritation. Not only that, but he pierced my tragus at an odd angle, further causing issues with the healing process. My friend who got her seconds done on her earlobes also faced issues with infections, and odd angles from how he pierced her. Thanks to the professional piercers who fixed up my piercings, my tragus and helix are fine; but the additional hundred dollars I had to spend for new/sterilized jewelry, as well as an insanely painful healing process was definitely a nightmare experience. Seriously do not go here; this place deserves to go out of business for their unsanitary practices and gross/creepy attitudes. read more

Aight so last night I happened to lose my 3-week old nose ring in my friend's apartment. After losing it and finding it about seven times trying to put it back in.... we gave up. This time it was gone for good. A complete meltdown occurred as I called many shops in the area, all of which needed an appointment. JUST TO BUY THE JEWELRY. I called Fenix and a deep voice answered, I stated my question for the millionth time "My nose ring fell out and I was wondering if you had any jewelry for sale?" He replied, "You can come in but I only got what I pierce with, nothin fancy or anything" I said "PERFECT I WILL BE RIGHT THERE" and that I was. I walked in, the man from the phone introduced himself as Ty. He told his client it will be just a moment. As a first-time pierce-ee my sense of fear was written all over my face. He came over with an L-shaped ring with a ball and gently cleaned me up and helped get the new jewelry in. He asked me about my cleaning regimen and gave me new advice based off my specific needs. He was very knowledgeable in what was going on in my nose (we don't need to talk about it). I thanked him profusely, and well, I had the other side of my nose done as well so he replaced that one too! I'm not gonna lie, my nose did not like the jewelry from before so it was pretty un-fun and a little painful and I can say that I probably wouldn't have been able to replace it myself. I could tell Ty just wanted to share his knowledge and experience with those who were less fortunate (me). I asked him what I owed him and he didn't let me pay. So i walked in pretty late, around 11 pm with a few friends. Two of us were crazy enough to get a tattoo here. Mine was a large Star Wars tattoo on my arm. It was great for me. Rico was extremely friendly and helpful. He drew up my tattoo quickly. It took a bit over 3 hours and cost around $300 plus tip. All throughout the process he would joke around with us and give us tips on where to go. (It was our first time in Seattle). He was also open to criticism when it came to the tattoo and would fix the issues you had with it. I had a great experience. However, my friend was tattooed by Ty. He on the other hand was not as friendly. I believe he is the shop owner, but don't quote me on that. My friend went in for a Celtic trinity knot. She knew she wanted something other than a basic black knot. So she asked for suggestions. He insisted on a stone design much like the compass that's in the gallery above. However, he shaded way too dark and added a shadow to the piece. It looked bad and in all of our opinions was not even close to what she'd imagined. The shadow faded from dark to light. I don't know about your guys' shadows, but when I stand in the sun and look at my shadow, it's all one shade, it doesn't fade from my feet to my head. So when we brought this up to him, he says that's how it's supposed to look. To which we answered, it's supposed to look however she wanted it to look, not how you want it to look. So my friend was nearly in tears. And all he did was go to the back room and stayed there, not addressing our concerns. Now she has to get a cover up. read more

Extremely satisfied with my experience at Fenix. Our tattoo artist, Bianca, was professional, creative, and a joy to be around. She took my simple tattoo of flowers and recommended doing it in just color ink with no dark/black outlining. I loved that idea and the resulting tattoo. DON'T GET PIERCED HERE. My roommate and I got piercings here last winter. The dude was super condescending had a whole speech about how he was better than any other piercers in town and he had multiple degrees and everyone else did it wrong. I got a single third lobe piercing and my roommate got her traigas. Hers got infected and swollen within half a day and caused her so much pain she had to go to the doctor. Mine never got infected but when I went to get the jewelry changed, it was very painful and almost impossible and the man at the shop I went to (a different one, not Fenix) told me that not only did he pierce it from the wrong side but the piercing switched direction halfway through. I even called earlier today and was told they would be open until 2am!! We drove 25 miles to get a tattoo tonight, parked and they were closed. There wasn't a note on the door explaining, and all my calls went to voicemail (obviously) I am incredibly upset. It's been a long, hard week and I wanted to treat myself to a new tattoo. A little over a year ago (Last April) I came in at 11:45pm one night just because I was walking past and was thinking about getting a tattoo. I talked to Ty for half an hour ish and he showed me his portfolio and that right away convinced me to come back and see him again. I made an appointment for the next month for a large thigh/hip floral piece and came in about half an hour early. I waited a little while and watched him finish up on someone else (which was also amazing, I might add.) before we got started on me. He used a combination of stencils and a sharpie to design my tattoo on the spot. Right away I was impressed and I was having a lot of fun. Altogether we sat for four hours and talked the whole time. Sorry Ty, I know you're not a fan of Yelp but you'll thank me later for this. This was my first tattooing experience in Seattle and my third tattoo. All I wanted was some line work, nothing colorful or shaded so it was pretty simply for Ty to pull up and image on the computer to stencil on my foot. He sized it perfectly and it looked great! Not gonna lie, I was a little scared when I saw the hoard of alcohol bottles in the back office, but they were all pretty full. He got to work in less than 5 minutes of me walking in and was quick and professional. I love my tattoo! It's probably my favorite one I have. We can't really review this because we got stood up! We had an appt at 6pm with Eva, and she told us every hour she was too busy. This went on until 1020pm when she said she was finally ready. It was too late to drive back down so we asked for another time and she couldn't be bothered with working us in. Huge disappointment as we were visiting from out of town and made this appt two weeks in advance. This review is just for my new buddy Ty! My son and I went to visit Seattle and we found this awesome place. My son was getting his first tattoo and I was adding to my collection. Sebastian took care of my sons design and he did a great job keeping him calm and doing a spot on design. I was a bit more of a challenge since I wanted a birth mark covered and Ty handled that challenge great. We are both really happy with the finished product. Went into get my lip pierced the other day and after a day or so I had people telling me the placement didn't look right. I had other friends with the same piercing whose looked totally different than mine. After many people telling me I should go into another shop to have it looked at, I went into a local spot and was told it needed to be removed immediately. I was told the piercing was too low and was in a dangerous position. After this experience, I tried to call Fenix about 10 times and was sent to voicemail each time. I went in for what I thought was an easy appointment - stretch my ears from 8 gage to 6. There were so many red flags that I'm embarrassed that I didn't leave immediately. 1. The piercer was going to just clean the jewelry with alcohol. I had to ask for him to autoclave them and came back. I've never been to a piercing shop that didn't take keeping all jewelry sterile as a top priority and I should've left then. He also was touching all the non-autoclavable materials (e.g., wood) with his bare hands. 2. My current piercing was very loose and so instead of going to a 6, he suggested I go to a 4 gage. Which would have been a good idea except the only 4 he had was double flared tunnels. Instead of turning me away because he didn't have the right jewelry (single flare is always used for stretching), he said it would be fine. 3. He proceeded to taper to the diameter of the double flare, which hurt a lot and I made clear it hurt a lot. He just kept repeating how he's "been doing this for 30 years." 4. One side ended up bleeding a lot and he said it wasn't a big deal. When I got home, both sides had clearly torn and looked really bad. I pulled both tunnels out and went to see my normal piercing place, who confirmed they had clearly ripped and it was good that I put my 8's back in. I now need to wait weeks for it to heal before I can do anything and risk scar tissue. I highly recommend Slave to the Needle in Ballard. I only went somewhere else because they were booked and I was feeling antsy. They are totally cautious about making sure they're not hurting you and are ready to turn you away if something's not right. read more

My wife stopped by to get a quick piece done and unfortunately I cannot recall his name but our artist sat in the middle chair and he was really cool and definitely had a passion for his work. Ask him about all his amazing pieces. If you are in need of some ink and around the area don't miss out. They are open until 2AM and close by to cafe Paloma, last supper and several other bars. I got my second tattoo here in 2008, I came in around 6pm with a friend and was immediately asked for my ID(the guy seemed like he didnt believe I was even 18 and was a bit rude about it) I showed him what I wanted, he drew it up, and we went to a private room while he took a long long time to get ready. He barely spoke to me the whole time, but made pleasant conversation with my friend. When he did speak to me he poked fun(the kind that would be okay if coming from an old friend, not someone with a needle on you) He did do good work, and said he would do free touch up anytime but after the way I was treated I don't plan on going back ever. read more

I have only lived in Seattle for less then a year, so my experience with what place to go for tattoos and piercings is nonexistent. I went to Fenix a few weeks ago with a friend to get my nose pierced. Though the process went as expected- pain here and there, etc. Though I found Ty (who I believe is the owner or manager of the shop) was alittle rude and made uncomfortable jokes or remarks, the actual process wasnt so bad. However, going back to get my nose ring in, I encountered a terriible experience that helped me rate the shop and people in it. Upon entering one of the employees working there, a woman, assisted us in what she found was a "helpful" way by telling us what size rings to get, what model, etc. Doing just that, Ty came in to finish the piercing, what I noticed was that neither Ty or the other employee could agree on a similar piercing process and kept telling me two different things regarding the piercing and what type of ring to get. Trying to put my ring in I was put through excruciating pain. I normally fend well with pain, being able to take it, but this process went on for over 20 minutes. Ty kept sticking the rod in and out of my nose, pulling and tugging on my nose and piercing. He began pulling the piercing so much that I was bleeding profusely, and the tugging began to pull open my piercing hole to an actual small hole- exposing raw skin. The pain was horrible, but I know I could easily look past it over time. However, the communication and ability to do their work was a joke and way off!! Even when seeing that he could not do it, or fix it- he kept forcing the ring to do what it could not. Eventually leaving the ring on my nose in a TIGHT loop. I was appauld that through all this, Ty nor any of the other employees came to the conclusion to stop, cut the loop off, and go back to my orginal stud. The service was awful and the talent there was small or nonexistent. I wouldnt suggest going there, not as your first choice, but if you must- your last choice. If getting my nose simply pierced was a horrible and painful experience- I cant fathom getting a tattoo. read more
