The main reason why I'm giving this place such a low rating is because I got a very bad cover up from here. So bad, that in order to fix it, it would the cost the same amount as the initial cover up. The other reasons are numerous, including: the person who greeted me at the door just assumed I wanted them to do the tattoo and booked me with them without offering to show me their work. Granted, this is somewhat my fault for not being more assertive, but this is the first tattoo shop I've ever been to where I wasn't shown portfolios to pick the artist I wanted. The other reason is that this shop is supposed to specialize in cover ups and show many successful ones that were way more complicated than mine. And yet, you can still see the original tattoo within the newer one, which makes the newer one look really low quality. I don't even mention that I have it to anyone because I am so embarrassed for allowing anyone to do what they had done. I waited until it healed to see if it would look better, but it didn't. So I went back to the tattoo shop and I asked if it could be fixed. They told me it was free but only if it is done by the artist. It just so happened that the artist left the shop by the time I came back. When I asked for a quote on how much it would cost to fix it, they quoted me the same price I paid for the tattoo initially. Just fixing it alone is the cost of a brand new tattoo!! That is how poorly it was done!! Now I have a totally botched cover up that I am completely embarrassed to have on my body. I will never go back to this place, and I completely regret going there in the first place. read more

Ty was my piercer and he was amazing! (After calling 30 mins prior to ensure they take walk ins) I came in 15 mins before close and I was still serviced, even though there was already someone waiting to be assisted. I really appreciate that! Ty really went into detail about caring for my piercing and what I should expect and gave me a great deal. I actually had a few other places in mind prior to coming here but i'm sooooo glad I went with this one. Environment was upbeat and supportive as well! I went for a piercing...and so far have taken several friends there too. I wouldn't trust anyplace else. They are very clean, taking care to sterilize and wear gloves. Also the owner, Ty is incredibly versed in medical knowledge as he has medical education. With regards to tattoo's.. he's so detailed oriented, he knows the background to many if not all the deep meanings behind all. He strives for authenticity and accuracy. Listen...if you're delicate, or incredibly sensitive, maybe this isn't the spot for you. Some people get offended by the dry sense of humor or frankness of these artists. If you went to a plastic surgeon, you would want them to truthfully and honestly advise you about the positives and negatives of what you are asking to have done, right? Well that happens here and sometimes advice is served up somewhat direct...but accurately. I mean these guys have a wealth of experience and have seen what works and what doesn't. Wouldn't you want to know before putting permanent art somewhere if it is going to bleed into a big colorful blob or hurt like hell? We've all seen "tattoo's gone wrong", yes? So, bottom line...if you want accurate and great artwork done honestly and correctly, this is where to go. read more

I've got quite a bit of ink and have been to more than a few tattoo shops. This is, by far, my favorite. Brian did a fantastic job making sure that my snowflake was mathematical perfection. His line work was exquisite and it healed very well. The owner did the hibiscus on my foot and I was very, very, very impressed with his work. It did not scar and had very even coloring. I would recommend anyone hoping for foot work to come here. I also found their prices to be reasonable. A few places have tried to charge me exorbitant amounts for my own work and 15min of their time. I do advise people to make an appointment, rather than showing up randomly and expecting the tattooists to be available or the shop to be open. I've been in more than a few tattoo shops - some good, some downright horrible - and Fenix is by far my favorite. I have a few pieces by Chris (who pierces but is also working on her tattooing apprenticeship). She's incredibly detail-oriented, well-informed, and more than willing to work with you to get the best work she can give you, be it a tattoo or a piercing. As for the other artists, they clearly share the same passion as they're more than willing to teach and give advice to their apprentices. Like any other business, you have different personalities - however, unlike some tattoo shops, the artists here are up front and honest rather than patronizing you just to get into your wallet. If a tattoo's placement or design isn't a good idea, they'll tell you, but will also happily suggest something better. Ty, you run an awesome shop. Keep up with the amazing work. read more

Awesome tattoo parlour in a very interesting part of Seattle. Located above ground in the infamous underground neighborhood called Pioneer Square housed and surrounded by restored brick buildings from the late 1800s - early 1900s, this place has alot to offer. The artists here are all excellent with varying design style so be sure to check out their books for what style might suit your expectations if you dont already have something drawn up. I worked with Thomas Wade who was able to design the flames I wanted and will go back to him when I'm in the area. Alot of them have Xboxs or PS2 so if you are getting a large piece done you can take your mind off the pain for a minute. Nice range of design and art books on the shelves in each station as well so you can peruse those and it also gives you clues to what that aritst style is like. My friend had a large Pheonix put on his forearm to combat as well as balance the Dragon on the other side of his arm. The artist (forgot his name, sorry!) did excellent work and was very friendly and cool with an amazingly large, detailed and realistic Dragon head on his own shoulder which showed quality in personal taste. Clean. They also have a piercer and a small but unique selection of jewelry. I meant to buy a set of the tribal mother of pearl earrings that I wanted but maybe I can have them shipped to me or I will be in the area again soon to pick them up. read more

I called Fenix last week to schedule an appointment, and Ty answered the phone. Being new to this, I had a lot of questions, and he patiently answered them. I wanted to get my wife and kids initials on my arm to show them that although I'm away from them(I travel for my job), they are always with me, but Ty said they do not do significant others names or initials. I was disappointed, and asked for ideas, he gave me some things to think about, and I decided to wait until I found something. Once I came up with a couple of ideas, I walked in. Ty was busy doing a big piece, but took the time to welcome me in, remembered me from the phone call, and discussed my ideas. Bryan came over to discuss as well, and we came up with a plan, which I have to say I'm much happier with! It's a nice shop, a little cramped, but clean and orderly in all the right places. Ty and Bryan are great guys, and the other customers were friendly and helpful as well. I'll definitely go back when the time comes! read more

Got my 2nd lobes pierced here 3 months ago and they're still infected, even though the piercer said the jewelry was such high quality it couldn't infect anyone. My first ones are already a little uneven so the guy said he would try to make them look better but made them so much worse I can't even put earrings in one of my first lobes now because he pierced them so close together. He also definitely used the wrong type of jewelry, I think what would usually go in a nose piercing? So it's constantly getting caught on things and I've nearly ripped them out many times. He also pierced my friends nipples in the back and had her sit in an office chair... just a sketchy and gross place I would never go back and I regret going here in the first place. read more

I called many places to see if any did horizontal piercings, a lot of turn always but I found three locations, "Absolute Ink" in burien and "Tattoo bird" in Tacoma, both places were unavailable considering it was late at night so I saw high yelp reviews on yelp for Fenix tattoos and piercings, I called before hand and mentioned that a call beforehand said people who do these piercings were considered unprofessional considering the risks after and he told me that they were uneducated and not to believe everything the Internet told me. I came in, and he was coming back from a gas station I was told, when he came back I let him know I was aware of the after math of having this piercing and he wrote down on a piece of paper about aliens and such and said "do u believe what I wrote down" and then I was confused asf and he said "don't believe everything you read on the internet" he went on about his degrees he has and says that there's only one problem with the piercing and that's with shifting after a couple months so I was like ok let's do it then. He used a sharpie to mark the dots on my tongue, he didn't ask me if I thought it looked even, which most piercers do... after he was done putting the needle thru, my tongue bled a little which in fact normal but he didn't give me any water to rinse it out or anything and said that were done, I checked it out in the mirror and noticed it was crooked :/ before purchasing it I turned to my bf and asked if they looked uneven and he said yes, we both turned to him and pointed it out and he said that he did it where the marks were and they were even, but they weren't at all, I could tell because one ball reaches the bottom of my lip first- yeah I felt that. I went ahead and paid cus he said it's just my tongue hangs more on the other side (lol) I then thought and remembered he didn't have me sign any consent forms about the piercing which is a requirement right? He seemed very blunt about it when I asked him if I had to sign anything. He scribbled through it and it seemed like I was in the wrong for even making sure. He just seemed unprofessional. Third day having it I'm told from another piercer that the bar he gave me was too short, so My tongue was swelling over the balls and that's not good at all. Had to take it out, wasted $60 just to have to get it re done later . I had assumptions about this place, it being the only place open past 11pm on a Friday, and also being in Pioneer Square. Visions of stumbling drunkards getting their sweethearts' names tattooed in ridiculous places had me thinking this place was going to be a dive and possibly a rip off, but I was completely, entirely wrong. Ty, the owner and artiste extraordinaire, is sassy and a little douchey, which would have rubbed me the wrong way, except that he was very professional, and his freely vocalized opinions bespoke his keen intelligence. He had some words for me that late Friday when I walked in with my cohorts and without checking out his profile, commissioned him to ink me with a sick ass meat cleaver. We worked together to sketch out the drawing, and while he inked, he gave me his advice for future tattoos (at least check out the profile of someone who you're having ink your body- it was a silly thing for me to do otherwise.) He also gave great advice on perspective and tattoo placement, and I felt confident in his knowledge. Fenix Tattoo is clean, Ty is a pro who loves his job, and I love the tattoo he did for me. I came here on my 19th birthday to get my first tattoo a few years ago. Half lion half rabbit in a yin yang form. I had thought about the design for years honestly, but it always stuck with me, and so I decided finally, that I would get it. I walked in, and was immediately helped. I think Bryan was the artist I spoke to, and he alleviated any fear or uncertainty I may have had in getting one right away. I expressed to him the design I've been seeing in my mind (I couldn't draw it because I draw like a 3 year old) He told me to return in an hour or two and when I did, the design was probably better than how I had pictured it. We go through the prep, blah blah, he puts on a movie for me to help take my mind off of it, and at my request, he made sure to let me know when he was going to touch me with the needle (so I didn't accidentally jump and jam into the needle, I don't know why, but that thought bothered me) The outlining hurt, sure, the but color was so gorgeous and vivid, it really just felt like a sunburn. Heck, I might go and see if they can touch up the color sometime. I will definitely be back, and whenever someone asks me about where I got my tattoo, or where they should get theirs, I always suggest they try coming here first. read more

This is a different type of review but it needs to be said! If I lived on the West coast I would come here for everything! For the whole story keep reading but for the cliff notes, Ty was absolutely stellar in walking me through taking out a crappy piercing for the first time and while in pain! I wish I could've gone somewhere where the piercer was actually educated in piercing!!! I live on the East Coast and last night around 11:30, I had determined that the naval piercing I received just 28 hours ago, had to go. For it was insanely not straight or in any way lined up and to me it was so obvious. I didn't want to let something heal that was crappy and have to go through the painful healing process I had already started to feel the effects of. I tried reaching out to friends for advice on how to take it out and of course the internet but I wanted an experts opinion. However no shops on the east coast are open at such an hour. So I open maps and find Fenix is still open so I give a call. I'm so infuriated at this point that where I got my piercing done, the woman had no idea what size needle she was using and of course after standing up after having said needle pushed through and the barbell in place my first thought is damn this is crooked but it's not like she can redo it. She then didn't give me ANY after care instructions until I asked, "hey so what do I do to take care of it?" And although I had already done my research prior to getting it done, I wanted her opinion. She just told me to spray Bactine on it. And then almost as an afterthought, had me come back over and spray my piercing. I had only gone in to get my cartlidge done but then after doing that and again not knowing what size she just put in me... says, "Are you sure you don't just wanna do your belly button now while you're already here and I already have all the stuff out?" So I say screw it why not. Last but not least, it was a bent barbell with gems on it. Ty informed me that bc of the gems it most definitely wasn't surgical grade steel. I appeared to be healing nicely except for the horrible black and blue bruising which is not normal according to Ty. read more

I've been coming here for years and I highly recommend it to all of my friends... and also all the strangers who randomly compliment me on my awesome pirate-themed sleeve that Ty is (finally) almost done with. (Not his fault it's taken so long... I'm just broke all the time!) Every person who works in this shop is held to incredibly high standards, and they have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to healing and care, too. Ty pierced my septum, and it healed in two weeks with no problems at all. Also, there wasn't a ring that I liked, so he made me a "custom piece" with some pliers and a banana barbell... it's been in ever since and I love it! I had my snakebite piercings done elsewhere (before I found this shop), and they ended up crooked and not at all even... so Ty custom-cut some rings for me and now they look perfectly even. (Hell yes for optical illusions!) The way they all go about helping you get a great tattoo that will look great on you is amazing as well. You can come in with artwork or even just an idea, and all of the artists are well-versed in placement, light sourcing, and sizing to make all the details work and look good for years. Went here with my 18 year old daughter, we both got our noses peirced. Tackleboxx - Did good hand hygiene, opened sterile packages, wore gloves and changed them appropriately, and was realistic when we asked him about pain, pressure, etc. gave us more than a few options with regard to aftercare. Cost was $60 per, but he knocked off $10 a piece because we were a duo :D Not to mention, his sense of humor put us both at ease. I went here to get my nipples pierced and what a mess. The piercings where both way to deep and through the areola. The entry and exit points where totally off and slanted, the exit points where far too deep. Not only that but the jewelry they used was externally threaded which is awful for piercing. Overall a poor poor quality experience. I tried to call, email and Facebook message about the issue all of which where ignored by Fenix. It shows a total and complete unwillingness to fix the poor job. I also before panIcking went to not one but TWO reputable piercers who cringed at the job that was done and resulted in me having to take them out. I would give zero stars if I could. I'll update as wether or not they ever get back to me. So disappointing. Update: called again and was met by a very abrupt man who was not interested in answering my questions. Eventually I called AGAIN and got ahold of the piercer who avidly denied having done it wrong and then told proceeded to tell me that all the other piercers had "8th grade educations" in comparison to him. Both piercers who have 5 star reviews and come highly recommended. He then tells me that I was in the wrong for taking them out even though prior to that I got several professional opinions. The entire phone call was a lecture on how he will repeirce them for free which NO OTHER and he stressed NO OTHER shop would even think of doing which is an utter lie. Than proceeded to talk down on me. I simply asked for a refund as I have no interest in that man messing up ANOTHER piercing on my body. This had nothing to do with after care or opinions the piercing was unquestionably done wrong at no fault of my own and he still avidly refused to compensate. Awful. read more

I'll be coming back to get my butt tattooed by her. She not only was super personable but we shared great laughs and times before me driving home. I'm stoked to get more work done by her. i got a tattoo from Bianca, and she was incredible. she was so sweet and i'm always getting compliments on the piece. However Ty, did piercings for me. i asked him for a daith piece in my ear and he kept going off how daith piercings don't exist and it's basically a forward helix. i just went with it because he seemed to understand what i wanted even though he had to make it known, he knew more than me. i then asked for an orbital on my other ear, and he pierced it so deep that it's now a conch and i can't fit a hoop in it like i wanted to. i overheard him telling a girl, it was clearly her first piercing ever, that she can change out her nostril for a hoop after one week as long as she kept putting antibacterial ointment on it. i hope that girl went home and did her own research because anyone with a brain knows that antibacterial ointment inhibits oxygen from getting to the piercing and will cause it to get warm and moist and get infected. he did make it very know that he has a degree in microbiology and whatever other medical degrees, so he was the best piercer ever because he knew more than anyone else. i would avoid Ty at all costs, especially considering it's been almost a year since i went there and my daith and conch are still not healed, despite my efforts to keep the jewelry clean and protected. read more

The only positive was a warm welcome from a young lady when we came in for a walk-in piercing around 10pm. Was told "15 minutes". There was one artist I saw working. about 30 minutes later we hadn't been updated and a couple came in for a walk-in tattoo. We hit the one hour mark and they were getting tattooed and no one else was in the front of the shop to talk to and we never received any more contact. Sounds like they may have forgotten about us..wasn't worth throwing a fit so we went on our way. I wouldn't recommend the service aspect, I can't speak on the quality of work. read more

Sometimes all it takes is a pleasant shop owner or employee to make an experience great. Ty is what got this place a (kinda rare for me) 5 stars. I went in for a couple of piercings. He had a nice balance of being professional but also personable. He made sure he understood exactly what I wanted and was quick with the piercings (thank god, the industrial hurt like hell). I internalized the pain and he complimented me saying I did great, hah! He's smart, I believe he mentioned he had a couple of degrees, one in microbiology. So he knows his stuff. My sister was with me and was interested in getting a small tattoo. He gave her advice on optimal placement based on his 25 years in the business. He patiently worked with the design she wanted. She ended up happy with his work. It was super late, almost closing time but we weren't rushed at all. We all stood/sat around the front for a bit talking and joking about how someone came in wanting tattoos on both butt cheeks. He gave clear instructions to my sister and me. Said if we had any problems to call him. Overall a really positive experience. I plan on going back for my next piercings and possibly a tattoo! read more

The guy who pierced me was really odd, he kept mentioning all of these bogus degrees and how he was the best piercer and everyone else was horrid. While the piercing itself is fine (although I do think it's not placed properly), the service was not the best and his attitude turned me off from the experience. read more

If I could give a zero out of five stars, I would. I came here with two friends to get a naval piercing. I immediately had a bad feeling but ignored it because I just assumed I was on edge after having a weird encounter in the city that night. Not only did the piercer, Ty, not check ID's or have us sign anything (which isn't illegal, but I have had many tattoos and piercings and I have ALWAY had to sign something) but he gave us a speech about how he was superior to all other artists and his way was the only correct way. While in the back, when prepping for my piercing, he had me push my shoulders back and told me to push my chest out and when I did he proceeded to say "Giggity". Yeah, I know. For those who don't know what that means, a character on the show "Family Guy" says that whenever he is attracted to something. Anyways, I had a bad feeling leaving the shop, as we left Ty says no refunds because he guarantee's his work. For two days I followed his after care (which included using ointment on a healed piercing, ANOTHER NO NO) and felt the bar was tight and could see my stomach bruising around the piercing. Ty also said that my piercing would heal in 3-10 days (but maybe 14 for my naval) I decided I would go to a couple shops and see what they said. All of the shops' mouths dropped when they saw it. They explained to me that my naval anatomy was triangular and that naval piercings work best on circular navals, they then suggested sub dermal piercings instead. Rather than doing this, Ty wanted a quick buck and did a surface piercing on my stomach instead. If I hadn't taken this out, the swelling would've suck the ball into my stomach The shops showed me that Ty used cheap jewelry that was equivalent to silverware that is externally threaded, meaning there is a serrated edge that gets shoved through your pierced skin. I returned to the shop in a rage. I chewed Ty out for an hour about his mistakes and he just said the same things refusing a refund. When he asked if he could repierce me again, I told him I didn't want him to because he had already messed it up once to where he replied "well, good". I didn't leave then shop with a refund, but I made sure this POS knew he was caught being a shitty person. Moral of the Story: Trust your gut when you are uncomfortable in a piercing shop read more

I had my stomach dermal piercing halfway ripped out on a Tuesday evening playing basketball and I was freaking out because I had no idea what to do (I had the piercing for 8 years) and it was 10:00 pm on a week day. I tried a couple other tattoo/piercing places in my neighborhood but they weren't able to help. So I called Fenix Tattoo, they were open and said they would be able to help me that evening. I went in there and they helped me right away. He was quick and talked me through the pain, as I was freaking out at the thought of him pulling it out. He then gave me ointment to reduce the scarring and didn't charge me for the removal. If i could leave 0 stars i would. I just left the shop with a friend of mine. She went in looking to get initials tattooed on her forearm. After waiting to speak with an artist, he comes up and introduces himself and asks what she would like to get done. She told him she wanted initials and his first response was "whose initials?" She responded and said her significant others, (not that it was ANY of his business) he immediately declined and said "he doesn't tattoo significant others initials on customers" because "tattooing should be selfish and you shouldn't do it for anybody else." He then proceeded to ask the other artist in the shop if they would be willing to do it and the other artist declined as well once he heard his spill. The first issue here is that whomevers initials she wanted to get tattooed is irrelevant. It could've been her child, mother, brother etc. that's not YOUR choice to make and it's not okay to make someone feel a way about what they want to put on THEIR body, it's HERS! He then went on to say he hoped the relationship lasted and not in every instance does it not work out, but it was something he just couldn't bring himself to do. He kinda laughed and giggled as he declined which is what irritated me the most. I felt like it was extremely unprofessional and ridiculous, the whole ordeal. You don't have to agree with what a paying customer wants, it's their body and if they end up with regrets that's truly on them. I'm in shock and would NEVER recommend that anyone come here. read more

Worst tattooing experience ever. They do not open on time and my tattoo looks awful. The artist placed the stencil and then proceeded to not follow it. I cannot wait for it to heal so I can get it touched up elsewhere. I am very disappointed with the results. read more

I was visiting Seattle for the weekend & decided to get a piercing. Ty greeted us and walked us back to the piercing room. Really bad place to get piercings,me and my sister went there she wanted to get her septum done,we called ahead to ask if they would accept guardianship papers in Spanish,said it was fine but when we got there they didn't even looked or asked for them. When i was filling in the form he even told us to not care about that they don't even check it,they didn't even check for ids or anything. When she was gonna get pierced we went to a chair that was really open for everyone to see while she was getting pierced.Once he was gonna pierced he cleaned her septum really rough,he didn't even washed his hands but did put gloves on. When he started putting the needle in,he poked her many times before actually doing it, the end result was a really crooked and bad pierced septum,it was going through cartilage and hurt her really bad, all of that for 60 dollars,she had to take it out, plus it was really bad and thick jewelry. Please don't go there, at least not if you want really bad piercing at a very high price with bad jewelry! read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR PIERCINGS I went here with my friend on July 19th, we both went in to get our nipples pierced and we were excited and ready for whatever was to come.. We walk in with our ID's ready to be checked after about 20 minutes of waiting he came out. we told him what we wanted and he said come on back to the piercing room (mind you this is after signing NO paperwork and NO ID check.. he didn't even know if we were of age to be pierced ESPECIALLY to look at a girls naked body) we lay down to get pierced and he instantly starts talking about how he has "pierced some buckets" and he is lucky because we were some "attractive ladies" CREEPY! He pulls out the jewelry and I ask "don't you think the jewelry is a little small?" (it was about 1/2 inch long and a SMALL gauge also curved) he then pierced us and sent us on our way. a week later i am still sore and the balls on my piercing are UNDER my nipple from the swelling. he gave us piercing and left no room for swelling or anything. I started to get freaked out and have gone to 3... THREE different piercing shops and they have all been in AWE about how wrongly these piercings have been.. but on the bright side, all the other piercing shops got a good laugh out of our nipples being pierced with an eyebrow ring. But i'm not laughing about how i have to spend more money to get good jewelry put in. luckily I went in before they rejected so i didn't have to take out the piercing completely. read more

Fenix Tattoo is the ONLY tattoo place I have been in that I would be perfectly happy having any of the artist there tattoo me. Heather desined and tattooed me this kickass angel on my right arm... I have had this picture on my head for a long time.. she scetched it up and was perfect to what I wanted.. and now that it is on my arm.. AMAZING everyone want to know where I got it done...
