For years, I had a fear of mechanics. Over time, I've been ripped off at so many people that I am scared to deal with them. However, I have had my car repaired at Fenton Citgo multiple times in the past three years and have always been happy with the quality of service. Nani, the head mechanic and owner, will frequently recommend that services be done "soon" or "sometime in the next year," but does not push services like other mechanics. His estimates are always fair and I have had to pay more than a few dollars over the estimate. When I bring my car in, he immediately recalls the type of car I have and the work that he has done to it most recently. I knew I would eventually need a mechanic when I moved into the Silver Spring area more than ten years ago. I've had, like most people, HORRIBLE experiences with mechanics and the time to shop for a mechanic is NOT when you need them. Anyway, as most know, there are dozens of mechanic shops in the area and it's a hit-or-miss endeavor unless you are referred to a mechanic by a trusted friend. I started my search by keeping mental notes of all the mechanic shops I drove by on a daily or weekly basis. I started noticing that ALL were common scenes, family, older model cars parked in all the shops...save one. I started noticing that shade tree mechanics gathered at the Fenton Citgo on weekends with their souped up and muscle cars. It's a sight to see older Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes, etc. with their hoods open parked among station wagons and four door family sedans, but that's what I noticed happened at the Fenton Citgo on weekends. So, I thought, if shade tree mechanics trust Fenton Citgo, so can I. I wasn't disappointed. We've owned three Jeep Grand Cherokees, an Audi A4, A6, and a Nissan...Fenton Citgo, specifically Nani, kept them running smoothly until we traded them or sold them. As others mention on here, Nani is a straight-shooter, doesn't mark up the prices exorbitantly or unnecessarily. He'll look offer to use OEM parts but will recommend aftermarket parts whenever possible (which is all the time). Fenton Citgo has done everything from brakes to A/C to engine work and I've never had to go back to have it redone. I guess you can tell that, yes, I do recommend Fenton Citgo. Oh, and please don't come bother trying to get "FREE WORK" done the first time. Privileges like that don't come, and shouldn't come, until you're a regular customer...which my family is. And yes, I and my wife have had discounted or free work done on small things (change tire, check brakes, etc.). So, bring your work to Fenton Citgo and Nani, you won't be disappointed. Fenton Citgo always treats me well. They do good work (as far as I can tell). They seem to be scrupulously fair about price. And the mechanic usually calls you to talk about what's going on, which can be a key moment for you to work through what's really happening with your vehicle. I take my 2003 Honda Civic here and I am grateful I found this place. In terms of the extent of the work I've had done here, the biggest job they've done for me cost about $600. And I will take my car here for my next major service requirement, whatever it is. I also take it here just for my oil changes and tire work. Highly recommended! read more

I have been using Fenton Citgo for my regular maintenance on 5 different cars over the last 18 years. From Lexus LS to Nissan Sentra, Ford Windstar to 1972 Ford Mustang. Great locally owned gas station/garage in Silver Spring, MD. We were in the DC/MD area visiting family. The day before we were to leave town, we had a flat tire. Thank goodness for road side assistance. We drove on our spare tire to a national chain for our tire repair since we were not familiar with the area. Unfortunately they were unable to squeeze us in but did recommend a garage close by that might be able to help - Citgo on Fenton. With a little guidance from Siri, we drove to Citgo. Nani took care of us without any long wait and we were back on the road in under an hour. Very reasonable and great customer service. read more

Hello, I have an 88 Park Avenue Buick and was refereed to get in touch with Nani because he knows the GM vehicles well. When I went to the shop I explained to him my windows would not roll down and it was the middle of summer, so I wanted to get my AC looked at. He opened the hood and showed me some smudge by the AC compressor and said it was an indication that the compressor is not work and needed to be replaced. I then told him what would it cost to just charge the AC and test my luck that the compressor did work? He took a long pause looked me in my eye and said $250 ( in my opinion considering the desperation I was under being that it was 90 degrees outside, my windows would not roll down, and I had no AC). He said if the compressor does not engage then it would cost another $250 to install a compressor. He basically said to get AC I needed around $500. I almost said yes, but with my intuition and the price Nani suggested, something just did not seem right. I then went to another mechanic, Suh, of Wheaton Radiator Service located at 11326 Elkin St Silver Spring, MD 20902. Suh told me it would cost $80 to charge the AC and another $20 for the dye in case I had a leak. He said the best way to determine if the compressor worked was to charge the AC system. He charged the system and the compressor engaged. Bang! Ice cold AC. I gave him $140 for being honest. Suh now does all my work, remember, I have an 88 Buick, a gift from my Aunt, so I am fixing it up little by little. Too bad Nani lied, because Suh will now get my service. I would not recommend Nani, he attempted to rip me off. If he treats you good than stay with him, but if your looking for a fair price from an honest hard-working man visit Suh at 11326 Elkin St Silver Spring, MD 20902. I took my new (to me) car to Fenton Citgo for the Maryland Safety Inspection. I was really nervous, after reading a lot of horror stories about repair shops failing cars in order to get the owners to pay for expensive unnecessary repairs. I went to Fenton Citgo after reading the positive reviews here on Yelp, and I found them to be accurate. The mechanics took care of my car quickly, and all it needed were patches on each of the rear tires where there had been nails. The drop-off and pick-up were quick and painless, and everyone I dealt with was courteous. I am definitely a convert! read more

I can not recommend Nani enough. He is the nicest guy and, most importantly, he is the most honest mechanic I have ever found. After a HORRIBLE experience with another mechanic in Bethesda, I went to Nani based on the positive Yelp reviews; I am SO glad that I did. Nani, the owner and mechanic, at the Fenton Citgo is the best mechanic I have ever been to. As a twenty-something woman I always worry about getting taken advantage of by mechanics. This is the last thing Nani will do. His prices for work done ($80/hour) are fair and he always tries to get parts that won't cost you an arm and a leg (He also doesn't mark up the price of parts nearly as much as most mechanics). He used to work at a Volkswagen dealership but then started on his own so he's really familiar with Volks. I have a 92 Celica and he's always been great with it! As long as I live in the DC area there is no question that I will be taking my car to Nani for any and all repairs. read more

Went here to get my MD inspection done. It didn't pass but Nani directed me to a nearby place to take care of the windshield and he took care of the rest of it. It was all done the next day and at about half the price another place quoted me to get my car up to code. Maryland inspections are a pain but I got through it here. read more

I was referred to Nani/Fenton Citgo by my usual mechanic for my headlights (they have a headlamp alignment system). Nani looked at my car right away and although he wasn't able to aim both of my headlights (the housing for one was broken), he was honest and helpful. Highly recommend! read more

So I just made a phone call asking about getting a MD Inspeciton done. He told me $100 where as many other places gave me a quote at $75 - $80 at most. The gentleman I spoke to seemed to be a bit testy. He said there were no appointments and that it was all first come first serve. That although you can show up at 7AM to try and get in line, no one will work on your car until 9:00AM. I asked him was there a waiting area and he said no not really. You either sit in your car or you can sit in one chair in the vehicle bay. Ummmm I think I'm going to call around a bit more. Thanks to everyone else for posting and glad you had a good time..... I called this local station regarding noise in my brakes , A colleague called earlier to ask if there was any cost just to "check" what work. He confirmed "No" This is a pratice with Midas, NTB and Merchants, when I called back Nani confirmed a price which was well over what I expected to pay in Gaithersburg, So i picked up my car and was presented with a bill for half an hour of 'labor" When questioned Nani was not overly friendly and adamant that everyone charges this and based on his general take it or leave it attitute....I was Not overly impressed and frankly there are too many mechanics who WANT my buiness and refferals as I own 3 other cars! I eventually got the job completed at Merchants in Gaithersburg, for 15% less that Nani quoted me in a polite and priofessional manner. read more

He is a crook. He ripped my mom off and made her change her tires and brakes because he thought would get the work to fix it. He made my mom spend thousands on repairs that were not needed. Stay away this mechanic, he is a crook, it is better to go anywhere else. The inspector is the most unreasonable person ever. I was in a rush to get my 9 year old car inspected- so instead of taking it to my regular mechanic- I took it across the street to the Fenton Citgo. They were very nice- and promised a quick turn around time. They called the next day- to report I had failed. As the car was in very good shape per my husband and my careful inspection we were a bit surprised but willing to have work done. The mechanic quoted us $1,800 worth of work and went on and on about how difficult the repairs would be. I was concerned about the safety- but couldn't afford the price. The man at the front desk told me I had to return to this Citgo for re-inspection. However, when I went to the MVA they encouraged me to go somewhere else for inspection and get a second opinion. We went to our old mechanic, who looked with surprise at the inspection report and quoted work. He first pointed out the estimated work contained several hundred dollar items that hadn't failed inspection. Ok. I thought, I should have looked. Then he looked at my car and told me that aside from 2 small repairs he needed to fix, the car should pass inspection. He fixed them for $200 and the car passed. As my husband and I are expecting our first baby and needed to be extra sure he didn't just pass us as a favor- we went to a second shop that inspects and asked if they agreed the car was safe. They unequivocally agreed that I should not have failed the inspection for the items checked. They hesitated then said they were very suspicious the shop was just trying to make money off of us. I would avoid this shop. Not only are their inspection fees higher than other places around- I don't trust that they aren't trying to fail people to make a buck. read more

Nani is fantastic: honest, helpful, competitive price. He once stayed late -- my first encounter with him, myself never before a customer -- to try a quick "last-ditch" / emergency procedure for a temp fix on my stuck car windows -- and then wouldn't accept payment for his efforts. Was generous and informative then, and has been ever since. I've referred at least 3 people to him. Never get the feeling he's pressuring or hiding something from me; in fact, when he discovered a rusted-through part, he saved the piece to show me and explained the piece's function; and once, when my father was in town (who knows more about cars than I do), Nani graciously explained all the details of a multi-faceted repair. Unfortunately, My experience with Citgo happened to be the complete opposite from the previous eviewers. I read Citgo's reviews on Yelp, and decided to take my car to them to have it inspected, Needless to say, my car did not pass inspection. I have a 2005 SAAB and it needed a spring for the suspension, the rear light was cracked and the bulb needed to be replaced. There were some other minor parts i.e. reflector bulbs, and such that needed to be replaced. Nani called me later that with an estimate of $1,600 plus for labor and parts. I was amazed if not dumbfounded by the costs, so I decided to get another estimate from a service center that was referred by a colleague of mine. It cost me less then $600.00 to attend to all the items on the list. I did take my car back to CItgo (it's 20.00 if you return to the same place that did the initial inspection) and am now a registered car owner in the state of Maryland I'm not sure why Nani's quote/estimate was so incredibly high.. However, for this reason t would not take my car to Citgo except for gas. read more

Nani has been the mechanic of choice for two generations of our family. We wouldn't go anywhere else for the repairs on our older cars. He's no nonsense, honest, and thorough. After reading everyone else's reviews I can only come to the conclusion that this wonderful mechanic named Nani no longer works there. We took our vehicle there to get done what was needed to pass our MD state inspection, after Beltway Chevron quoted us about $200 more than Fenton Citgo. So we took it here, hoping to save a few dollars, and what a disaster it has been! They never actually fixed what was needed and in the process, managed to break other things. I'm not a car person so to relay what they did and didn't do I'm sure wouldn't be accurate, however we had to take it back TWICE to get what we paid for initially done. Somewhere along the way they actually GLUED parts together that they had broken themselves. I am writing now as I sit here, waiting for a tow truck to pick me up as my car began smoking under the hood in the area where they glued parts together like five-year-olds. I am livid as my car was perfectly fine before coming to them. I would never recommend them and would advise all to stay far away as they've now cost us an astronomical amount of money just to mend their botched job. read more
