    Spanakopita

The spanakopita was amazing. My salad was delish and totally fresh. Truth be told I could have made a meal out of the spanakopita and skipped the salad :). The atmosphere is no frills. You order at the counter and a lady brought us the food. Would I go back? Absolutely.

I cannot believe they are operating out of a food truck! Heart and soul Greek. Unbelievable! Most authentic Greek I've had.

Everything from Arabic music on the speakers to Arabic calligraphy on the wall. The music was a little loud for my taste though I am a fan of Arabic music so this isn't necessarily a criticism. The menu was humble but offered dishes anyone would recognize, from gyros to greek salads to baklava. Everything was made fresh. I decided to keep it simple and order a lamb gyro and fries. My sandwich tasted fresh but the lamb had the familiar taste of Kornos meat which common and mass-produced cones of lamb or beef/lamb. This product is by no means bad but to me more on the bland side. The fries were crinckle style. They were made to order but had some brown burn marks on them, which means they were likely pan-fried as opposed to being deep-fried in a basket . I often pan-fry french fries or frozen potatoes myself. Overall, the meal was good for a mid-day meal. Its not anything to write home about but Ive been a loyal patron to many such establishments. So if you're in the area and want something Mediterranean for breakfast or lunch, be sure to give this place a try, its worth it.

My takeout was ready on time. While the falafel roll still might have been better fresh, I wanted something that I could plausibly eat several hours later on a mountain without a ton of restaurants nearby, and that choice worked out well. Many falafel rolls come with add-ons that I don't like, but the pickled turnip offering here was both flavorful and colorful. I also got their fries, drizzles with tahini and parsley, which is a good way to eat fries. A case of baked goods and a small market section of canned items were also available. There was certainly space to eat inside or out for someone without my travel schedule. It's also notable that in addition to the usual falafel, they offer ample vegan options as befits the Asheville community, including a house seitan and some other vegetable and fake meat options. I was happy with what I got, but the choice is always appreciated.

I have had falafel in various places all over the country and in Europe and this is in my top two! The Falafel is excellent, the portions are large and everything I have tried at Gypsy Queen has been delicious. I've brought several friends to the restaurant and they have all loved it. Gypsy Queen is one of my go-to places whenever I'm in Asheville. I live in Barnardsville and sometimes I go down there just to have some falafel. Try it for yourself!

It was the last one they had for the day. The server we had was pre occupied getting the empty tables prepped I think they were closing shortly after because they were not very attentive to us. We had to keep asking if someone could get our waiter for refills on drinks. We had a piece of tiramisu at the end to share. We went by the showcase when we came in to sit down .it was ok looked better than it was. A bit dry. Over all a bit pricey, more touristy than for the everyday lunch crowd. Food ok but service wrecked our lunch experience. Would not go out of our way to eat here.

The lady started friendly but seemed cold when I looked at iPad to review the bill. We ordered 2 sandwiches- 1 gyro and 1 shawarma. It CLEARLY on the menu says it comes with a side of fries, Greek salad, hummus, pita etc. Nowhere does it mention an up-charge for anything. I saw it said +$2.50 for each of the sides we asked for with the sandwich. I questioned this and she gave me a face like "how dare I question?" And just said "nothing is included with Sandwich, even fries". It literally contradicts what is on the menu! She said she'll tell her manager. Anyway- that was weird. Also, on the mixed grille it came with the tiniest pieces of pita, almost offensive, given the price. The entrance feels nicer for a take out place with the fake plants on the walls, but the back is closed off and the bathroom is dirty. Overall, I'd really only go for take out. And know they're cheap and will nickel and dime you.

We stopped by on our way to ATL for an early lunch and to try this famous spot known for big and fresh flavor. The pita bread was hot out of the oven and was amazing alone or wrapped around tender well seasoned beef and hummus. The gentlemen that took our order was so kind to answer all of our questions and tell us about the family business, and recommend mint tea and spices to try. He even gave us a dessert to try, cashew fingers! Very delicious and light. When we finished and started to leave, I pulled out a few dollars for a tip. The older gentleman stopped by the table and insisted we not leave a tip and was happy we enjoyed the food. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu and to say hello to this amazing family owned business.
