It's a vicious cycle of being too tired to work out and getting to the point where it was surprisingly cheaper to dine out at restaurants than to put in the energy and time to grocery shop and cook. But taking the easier route will always have a cost in the long run and I knew something had to change if I still want to be hot when I'm 69 years old. I really don't enjoy working out at all, it's painful, but having a personal trainer holds me accountable to show up to my appointments plus it's just nice to get help from a professional. You can tell Tony is very passionate about what he does and cares about his clients. It's also convenient for me not to have to recruit homies for the group sessions, he does all the logistical work to pair up with others that are in a similar stats as you. I'm probably not the best for visual results as I just went from objectively skinny to still skinny, but I am stronger compare to when I first started where I was crippling doing any sort of exercise with no weights at all to now. My meal portions are more in control without feeling like I had to give up everything and start eating like a squirrel, just no more regular boba tea runs. What's more important is that I truly believe that exercise contributes to stronger mental health and I recommend everybody to do some form of exercise even if you're not overweight at all. As I finished of the 2021 race year, my last race aggravated an already worn and cranky knee. I figured it was time to see if I could find a good body work person to help with recovery. I found Dustin and not only does he do great body work, but I discovered he was a personal trainer as well. I did a DEXA scan then started working with him. I started building up strength, even though I couldn't run. Dustin was very careful not to do anything to aggravate the injury as he built the rest of me up, including supporting muscle groups. By April I was starting to run again. I was also trying to drop the extra COVID pounds I picked up, and while the scale didn't seem to be budging, my clothes were definitely feeling better. I did another DEXA scan, and I had dropped 10 pounds of fat (including most of the visceral fat) and picked up 10 pounds of lean mass, so definitely moving in the right direction! Dustin is very knowledgeable in anatomy, nutrition and the science around performance. We enjoy our discussions, and he appreciates my effort and enthusiasm, and the fact that I run around all over the country running these crazy Ragnar races. Not exactly your normal Grandma pursuit! Too shy to go to a gym/wouldn't even know what to do. Both WFH, I have ADHD. Where: Exercise room (with a few weights/ancient machines) in our condo building When: Twice a week couple training (we do separate, customized exercises) My husband had a bad case of covid in April 2023, and he was bedridden for a few weeks--as a result, he lost much of his muscle mass. I sought out Stew for him but ended up working out together. Previous background: My husband never worked out or played sports until about 10 years ago. He had sedentary work at the computer all his life. He worked with another trainer once a week for several years and eventually was able to do a few pullups etc. His trainer changed jobs, then the pandemic hit, so went back to his old ways. After which he got the covid & felt very weak. I've had multiple health problems since childhood, and while I'm mostly good now, still have fibromyalgia, Addison's disease, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Hadn't exercised in over 20 years. Together, we felt threatened we might become extinct soon if we didn't do something. So I looked around for a new trainer who could come to our home, at first for my husband only. A lot of them were upstarts (e.g. app-based) and sales-pitchy; they also seemed young, and we weren't sure if a 25-year-old (sorry I don't mean to be agist!) would truly understand how creaky our over-the-hill, underused bodies felt. Then I found Stew. He seemed very professional and experienced; he was older than us and in incredible shape. More than anything, what convinced me was the fact he'd worked with clients with various health and mobility challenges. He was easy to get in touch and communicate with, friendly, and not at all scary. After chatting with him and finding out he could work with both of us in the same hour, I decided to sign up for couple training sessions instead. This doesn't mean we do the same workouts; Stew can customize each person's workouts, and supervise/help us at the same time. This worked well, kind of like a buddy system. We feel more accountable about our sessions and are less likely to miss them. We travel off and on so overall we probably worked out with Stew for 8 months or so. From both being totally wimpy and almost muscle-less, now we can see our muscles and feel much stronger. My favorite part about working with Stew is that our workouts are rarely the same. This really helps with my ADHD brain, which *hates* routines. He brings his magic duffle with different tools, but even with the same pieces of equipment we have in our home gym, he's always coming up with different ways to best help us. He has so many tips and tricks in his workout rolodex, if we feel uncomfortable with something, he can switch it up to what works better in seconds. As another reviewer noted, the service may not be the cheapest, but we can unequivocally say this is the best investment we've made in the past year. (I recommend doing it as a couple! Cheaper than 2 individual sessions!) I used to get tired after walking for 15-30 minutes; now I can hike or play pickleball for multiple hours. I used a vanilla diet from Google and burned myself out. I found myself dreading the gym and eventually quit going altogether. My experience and process ruined it for me - 100% my fault. I've made several attempts to get back into a program/routine at a few of the larger gyms over the years, but found trainers to be mostly incompetent and I spent most of my time waiting for weights or machines. Fast forward to this year - my wife is entering her first competition (E Cup). Accordingly, I recommended she connect with CZ Fitness for competition prep.
