Came in after an interview, said I never been here before. Lady set me up. Kind and swift. Its a soup and sandwich joint. They have salads and pies as well. You can customize your sammy! I got the Montreal Smoked meat sandwich with Stew. Both really good and filling, despite size. If I recall, it was less then 20$ with the tip. Some customers were rude but the workers were undaunted. I LOVE pie, so this place is been on my list for awhile. This is a nice location tucked into a strip mall with lots of parking available. The decor is lovely, and has a bit of a "country store/restaurant feel to it with a big chalkboard menu on the wall and a glass case full of delicious pie. I saw loaves of fresh bread for sale along with a great looking assortment of pre-made lunch items. I did not take any interior pics out of respect, as I wanted to limit the amount of time I was at the location. The staff member who helped me was very polite and answered my questions fully. I saw each person who was working, wearing the proper PPE and exhibiting wonderful sanitation practices. The prices were very reasonable, and I'll be coming back to sample their lunch menu. The pie was absolutely delicious! I loved the crunchy crumb topping on the sour cream strawberry rhubarb pie, and the lemon meringue had a nice flaky crust and a huge cloud of toasty meringue on top. Tuesday is my favorite day of the week when I'm working at my office. That's because they serve wicked Thai, my favorite soup at Fife N' Dekel. My office is steps away from the restaurant which is so convenient. I am ALWAYS tempted to stop in and see what is freshly baked as the delicious smells of pies, pastries and bread waft into the alley and surrounding parts near the restaurant. Lots of people from my office love the breakfast and lunch options here. There are 4 locations of around Edmonton. I like that the menu is always changing and they make seasonal treats. For example the pie flavor of the month is pumpkin. My favorite pie they make is the key lime pie but they only make it certain times of the year. Most of the non standard menu pies are available with 24 hours notice. My favorite sandwich is the Auto Bahn. The sandwich has turkey, roast beef, and ham on your choice of bread and toppings. I get the sunflower bread as that is my favorite they bake. I get extra pickles on the side. They offer a good assortment of sandwich toppings. At lunchtime Fife N' Dekel can get pretty busy but the staff keeps the line moving pretty well. Fife N' Dekel also does catering and we get it every once in a while that we have functions at work and they do a really good job and the trays present well and are tasty. How on earth have I not reviewed Fife N' Dekel before when I've eaten here dozens of times. Fife N' Dekel is like an Edmonton celebrity. Cooking up the very best of homemade goodness that tastes like Gramma made it at reasonable prices. What could they improve on? I'd like to see compostable plates/cups/utensils since everything here is served on/in throw away plates/containers. Definitely try the homemade soups and biscuits. And the pies. And the tarts... I'm a fan of their sunflower bread but sometimes I just want good ole white bread! I do wish they toasted their bread or put it in a press upon request but even without that it's still a good sandwich! The options on the toppings is decent and the amount of meat could be increased but then the price would also go up accordingly. I've always loved their soups particularly the cream of mushroom which is chalk full of actual slices of mushrooms. Whenever I eat here I always need to have a slice of pie as well cuz they really know what they're doing with their baked goods. The apple pie is my favorite but they have some other flavours that are great as well. Parking can be slightly congested but I've always found a spot eventually. read more

Went here for lunch on a weekday. Plenty of parking in front (shared with other businesses). The place does get decently busy at lunch - something to keep in mind if you're popping in with the anticipation of a quick in-and-out. Lots of seating. The line starts off with sandwiches, goes to the soup and then the desert. They did have gluten-free bread here (+$1.45) - but sometimes they do run out so you will want to call ahead to make sure. I got a turkey sandwich on the gluten-free bread and it was... meh. Might try another sandwich next time. To their credit - they did use a different cutting board, knife and gloves when making my sandwich to avoid cross-contamination. They weren't sure which soups were gluten-free, so I skipped those. The pies here looked delicious (so obviously not gluten-free), but they only have gluten-free pie on Wednesdays (a caramel cream pie). The place specializes in fresh, homemade sandwiches, soups, and desserts, especially pies. You can join (or get someone as a gift) a membership in the "Pie of the Month" club, which entitles one to a featured pie, once a month. We needed a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, and happened to pass by. I had a slice of apple pie ($3.05) and a cup of coffee (only $1 - with free refills!). My companion had a turkey sandwich (fresh roasted - not the deli stuff), a can of pop, and flapper pie for dessert. I have never seen so many varieties of pies in one place before. I tried my friend's flapper pie, which I have never had, and liked the combination of meringue, custard, and graham cracker crust. My apples pie was sweet and full of cinnamon, but nothing over the top - it tasted like a very fresh, high-quality pie that can be found in some supermarkets. Variety is obviously key here. My friend's sandwich was excellent - it looked very fresh, and I love how cranberries is one of the available fillings. Other sandwiches include ham, roast beef, and peanut butter and jelly -- you don't get more quaint than that! The interior of Fife 'n' Dekel is very plain and spacious. You place your order and pay at the counter, while your order is served up right in front of your eyes. You can even see some of the staff baking. Fife 'n' Dekel is a great place for lunch or coffee. I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. We bought pies for Thanksgiving here, they get 5 star rating! Just plain old yum. It is great you can preorder for events. I had the Salmon sandwich which was also very very tasty. We also got the lunch chilli which was very meh and a small serving. Plus the parking was terrible! Now there is construction going on to be fair but I think even when it is done still shitty parking. And the service was not great. Everyone seemed miserable to be at work. I've become a fan of the Fife N' Dekel in recent weeks. I like how their roast beef is freshly cut - it doesn't have that store-bought cold-cut thing going on. And their sunflower seed bread has held up better on my subsequent visits than my first. I still think their pie is a bit more bland for my tastes. read more

The first time I went to Fife N' Dekel was four years ago. I ordered a turkey cranberry sandwich and had one skinny slice of turkey in. Adding the vegetables didn't add much flavor. I thought the price of $7.00 was not worth the value of what I got. Even at 1:00, it was extremely busy. I didn't understand why because I thought I was being gypped. Fast forward to yesterday. I was shopping next door and decided to stop into Fife for a quick sandwich before going back to work. I was willing to pay for convenience's sake as i was running late. I ordered the Auto Bahn (turkey, roast, and ham) on brown. Topped it with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and sprouts for $7.20 and a butter tart for $1.55. Wow. The sandwich was AWESOME and the butter tart was AWESOMER. So much so, that I made another trip today for lunch and bought the same sandwich (and added green peppers for more flavor) and 6 butter tarts. (I shared three of them.) My only advice if you don't want to be stand in a long line and deal with people is to be there before 11:30 and after 1:30. Only drawback with going later is the options of bread and soup selections are less. Just a side note: My co-workers love all the cream pies and Cow Pie. I am truly disappointed today. All new staff no help from management and overcharged.. Cheese comes with a Vegetarian Sandwich and when I pointed it out the new gal had no assistance from Management or any experienced staff to refund me my money correctly. They Left her hanging to try to figure it out on her own and the line was long behind. Rather than wait for an extended period of time as I had been in line for already 15 minutes for a lacklustre sandwich (Which usually is better put together) I decided to leave. Fast service and tasty fresh food! The outside of the restaurant looks unassuming. You don't realize how spacious the restaurant is until you get inside. The restaurant is long, narrow and has an upper and lower dining area. The process of getting your sandwich is cafeteria style. The lines are fast moving. I came to eat around lunch and felt a little rushed. The menu is at the front of the restaurant you it gives you a chance to think about what you want to eat. They all sound good so you need to choose quickly. I got the roast beef sandwich in sunflower seed bread. They don't toast the bread but I didn't mind because I found the bread soft and fluffy. I found it easy to eat and I didn't get it stuck behind my teeth. Most of the sandwiches cost around $6 or so. I also ordered sour cream apple pie slice for $3.75. So good! I engulfed the sandwich and pie in under 18 minutes. That's how I knew that I thought the meal was delicious! I definitely recommend this place! read more

Have i told you lately how much I love the sunflower bread?!! That is the beginning of my favourite sandwich that i have a hard time straying from. Spicy mustard, mayo, egg salad, sprouts, onions, cucumbers tomatoes and pickles of course (which you can get in your sandwich or on the side or both).. sooooooo good! Then i have to check out the pastry case, even though with the size of their sandwiches I always have to wait until later to have my selection. It is generally one of their pies with a gigantic amount of meringue that wins me over, their flapper gives me flashbacks to Grandmas house or else I chose the lemon with the perfect amount of sweetness and tart. If you are on a budget they quite frequently have day old choices at half price, which honestly taste nearly as awesome, even if they are not quite as pretty. They also have a variety of drinks, a daily special, soups and salads to choose from, I just know from how they pile the ingredients onto their sandwiches, I could never finish that as well I'll choose their pies over any soup or salad all day long! I LOVE the sandwiches here! The sunflower bread made in house is amazing, always moist and flavourful. I have been here maybe 5 times and the service staff was always efficient and courteous. I also really appreciate how they offer sprouts as a topping on their sandwiches for an additional nutrition boost. I know this place is famous for its pies, and I have tried their seasonal strawberry pie and their sour cream blueberry pies. Both were just ok, not bad, but nothing to write home about either. Chris C is right. The prices continue to climb, but the quality and taste does the opposite. Declines. Now charging more for vegetables. Would be one thing if the increases went to staffing instead of into the family pockets. Been there on 3 Saturdays now the place is crowded and the meager staff that are there cant handle the crowd. Been to the other location as well on Satruday as I work weekdays, not a single patron in the store. Quality and selection is really off base on Saturdays. Used to offer free pie to fist timers too, but took my mother in law there and told they no longer offer that. Must be true what my wife and I hear. Staff is underpaid, overworked and all so the greedy family owning it can profit. Wifes sister worked there 3 years with no raise, and all she got was her hours cut by 30 minutes.
