Excited to see a great selection of vegetarian and gluten-free sandwich options such a good selection of grilled cheeses to choose from. He got the ricotta special and I got the street corn sandwich. I absolutely loved this place! I got the nachos and the Greek Fife Salad, and I was incredibly impressed. My mouth is watering thinking about the salad. It was very fresh, all the ingredients combined made for a very flavorful bite. The nachos were INCREDIBLE. Probably the best nachos I have ever had. I particularly enjoyed the kimchi buffalo chicken dip. That was the best part but overall, I was very impressed with everything. There are places you need in a downtown (e.g. bookstore, coffee shop) and there are places you want (e.g. record store, pizza joint). And breweries, depending on who you are, falls somewhere in the middle. But when they craft a quality beer and cook up delicious bar food and host live music and include ample seating, well there's no denying they are a necessity. On a quick visit to Charleston (and a quick search for supper) I found Fife Street. First of all, kudos to whoever made the decision to close off this street. You need walkable (and sitable-is that a word?) spaces in downtowns. I immediately saw the tables outside and the lighting, heard the music playing from inside, and was washed over by the aroma of grilled cheese (more on that in a second) and beer (side note: even if you don't drink beer, know that quality beer has an amazing scent). I hit Yelp, for quality standards and the menu. My eyes quickly became fixed on the French Onion with Beef. The setup was on point and then I saw "house-made french onion dip." Being a roast beef sandwich, I assumed something in the vein of a au jus dip. This was not the case, as I soon discovered. It is literally a side of dip. So, when in the Mountain State do as the mountaineers do. I started dipping. And I did not stop until every bite had disappeared! What a perfect combo. Also, I would love some of that dip to take home. But alias, another day. If you find yourself in downtown Charleston (WV), find your way here. Also, plan to stay awhile. read more

I'm really happy that West Virginia has started getting onto the craft brewery wagon, I've been waiting for them to catch up for over a decade. This is a step in the right direction. I've tasted thousands of beers and logged them on Untappd. I've never had a beer here that screamed, "wow! You must buy more and take them home!" Maybe they could partner with Greenbrier and or make their own Mothman IPA clone or something alone those lines. They are new and still learning so maybe they'll have a hit one day. FYI, I have tried everything on the menu here as well as a few limited release beers. The food here is pretty good, 4 stars I'd say. Plates and portions are a bit small. And for the fancy food I can't believe they only serve chips as a side! Ugh, the worst side you could ask for! If you can make the other food, please get some better sides than over salted well done chips, please please please. The vibe is totally awesome and make this place a great pick to hang out. Interior is beautiful. Couple bathrooms spread throughout. But a huge patio with tons of seats with the park on one side and ice cream on the other. read more

Traveling back from Tennessee to WV we found a gold mine! I mean near the golden dome of the capital we found a fantastic place. Fife Street Brewing fit all our requirements. Good food and great beers. On top of that the service from Courtney and Jacob was friendly, kind and considerate. Courtney even laughed at my sense of humor. We had the Quartet Grilled Cheese with chips, the French Chip Soup du Jour and also the Choke and Cheese with salami and chips. The serving area and bar were clean and decorated very nice. We were passing through Charleston on a very rainy July afternoon. I have my Catahoula with me so my choices for food are limited. This brewery welcomed my doggie inside. I got a brown ale and my daughter got a sour. Both beers were very good. There were seven of us altogether and we got various grilled cheese sandwiches, a salad and a wrap. I got the Brewtus which was recommended and it was very good. I had it on toasted sourdough bread instead of multigrain and was pleased with my choice. I highly recommend this place if you are looking to relax with some good beer. The food is very good too if you're hungry. It's hard to picture the old Charleston without Fife Street! This brewery was much needed and has now been around for a couple years. My boyfriend and I like to visit when we're in town from Pittsburgh. That being said, we have over 40 breweries and a competitive market. Fife could totally hang. Stayed the night in town on my way from Chapel Hill NC, and found the best place to enjoy a cold beer. Sat at the bar as most every table was filled, but that was ok with me, enjoyed sitting at the bar. Izzy was my server and couldn't have been better. Very personable and explained a few beers to me. I tried 3 beers and it was so tasty, one after the other. I started with the Charlie West Coast IPA. Smooth and not bitter and a great one to start with. I followed it up with Blarney Fife, a great Irish Red Ale. And finally my favorite, Chuck's P-51 Porter. You could really taste the chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. The place looked great. Sometimes, you get lucky just walking past a place. Fife Street Brewing looked very comfortable, so we walked in (without even checking Yelp first - GAAAASP!). The beer selection and quality is excellent. I've been checking out beer with fruit and sour beers lately, and, well, I managed to combine these both with the Raspberry Bieret, a German-style sour wheat ale with real raspberry puree. This was refreshing and delicious. I also had a Forest Floor Salad, which was quite good, and nachos with kim-cheese (spicy cheese, which is used with some of their other menu items as well). Can into Charleston for a wedding and stayed downtown. This was a fun stop for an easy lunch and a late drink. Overall quality is good the beer is solid and would try most of what they have. Their food menu is a little limited to just sandwiches and the salads. The main gripe would be the portions a much smaller than I would have expected for the price. You probably need more than one sandwich and side if you are eating it as a meal. BUT if you just want a bar snack they are a delicious option. Beer wise I enjoyed the street wheats. The IPA was ok, a bit on the piney side for my liking but that's a bit of personal preference. Would recommend the French onion and the street corn (it does have a nice kick with the sriracha). The other sandwiches were good as well. Would avoid the carrot and cuke noods (they were pretty bland). The watermelon salad was a surprisingly refreshing option. read more
