Been on my list for a long time. The entrance is easily missed if you aren't paying attention. You can really only tell because there's a bouncer outside this dimly lit seemingly empty room. You walk inside and it's an art gallery with a bunch of paintings on the wall. There's a white door at the very end on the left side of the wall. Walk inside and it's a whole different vibe. Love that true speakeasy entrance! (See my video for a entrance spoiler). The music selection was great, they were playing old throwback hip hop/pop/rap songs. It was a solid variety. I'll say if you're having a more "turn up" kind of evening, this is a great place to go. I did see a few couples trying to have date nights which this is definitely not the place if you wanted a more quiet lounge feel. You can't really have conversation over the music here. My friends band I were all dancing to the music but most people were just doing the usual stand and sway moves. Bartenders were nice but the drinks were hit/miss. I especially liked Night Moves, love the mescal kick to a traditional mojito. I was not a fan of the Blackberry Margherita, completely tequila forward which with the jalapeno infusion was a bit too much. Fun place to go for the novelty concept but I wouldn't likely go again except for a larger group of friends. read more

I was SO happy to find this place. We found it on a whim and it was very random but we went early and got a table before it got busy. The drinks were very good and when we left they had a whole DJ and it was filling up but looked like a great time! It's definitely hard to find so look out for the bouncers outside to direct you! Heard about this via TikTok. It was easy to find and walked through a completely empty gallery o get to the back part. Was hoping it would have had some fake art on display at least. It was pretty empty on a Wednesday night when we went around 9pm. The servers were only behind the bar and we ordered from them. The drinks we got left a lot to be desired. We ended up leaving after one cocktail each as it was a bit pricey for what we were getting. Cute decor and loved the faux fireplace with candles, but overall probably won't be back. read more

Their cocktails are really well made and the ambiance is great. Seating is a bit tight but we were able to find seating eventually. The place got pretty crowded towards 8:30/9 PM. I love a surprise! It was wonderful to walk into a gallery space full with beautiful pieces to view and discuss but then you keep walking and you enter a low light old-school lounge with a full bar and ceiling dripping with crystal chandeliers. Man this place is eerie at first...like dusty Victorian meets the porn music from 8MM. Walk through an art gallery and open the narrow door in the back left corner, and you'll find a cool secret oasis of cocktails and comfy furniture that immediately reminded me of Ranstead Room in Philadelphia. The cocktails here are fantastic. Vanishing Point and Midnight in Paris were both fantastic, and for $13 apiece, they were well worth it. Bartenders are friendly yet professional, and the experimental/trip hop music lends to a curious ambiance that'll have you coming back for certain. read more

Fig 19 is a fun space, we liked the taxidermy. Wasn't too crowded, & a small bar so not hard to catch the bartender's attention. Just upstairs from Home Sweet Home, so you could get a nice cocktail at Fig. 19, then follow with a Natty Light downstairs (liquor before beer etc.). I'm kinda neutral about the speakeasy aspect, it's been done so much now that it doesn't feel novel, but the art gallery you walk through is nice, so there's that. read more

What a fun date night! I honestly had no clue what the plan was and having that mysterious yet unpretentious feeling was a thrill. It was midweek around 9pm and the bouncer carded us at the door. I had no idea that we were going to an art gallery with walls as white as snow. I was told they usually have more art and decor showcased but must be doing a little change up that night. To my surprise, that little door towards the left side which was completely camouflaged (white on white) was the door to the chandelier filled, semi rustic style, prohibition era-like, lounge sofa and chair spaced, candle lit speakeasy atmosphere. We were lucky to have gotten a comfy seat (the only one left at 9pm!) that was not at the bar area, which I prefer. The mixologists were friendly and efficient, it was fun to watch them get creative with the drinks and also people watch a bit from our seats. Each drink was around $13 and we had 5-6 drinks, so yes it can get pricey but well worth it. The Vanishing Point (vanilla bean and cinnamon infused gin, fresh lemon juice, agave, egg white, sea salt), prosecco on tap (you can even add a flavored syrup to it), and Rhapsody in Rye (rosemary infused rye, ginger syrup, campari, fresh grapefruit juice, sea salt) were all very good. The music was moderately loud during the night but we were still able hold conversation no problem, bathrooms are not gender-specific but sanitary. It was never too crowded and can easily become one of my favorites when in the LES. Overall a really nice and unpretentious speakeasy well suited for date night or small group gatherings! read more

Clean restroom facilities. The only thing I didn't like was the music. Friends and I are not really into heavy metal, and it was also really loud. Fig. 19 is a trendy speakeasy, hidden behind the Envoy Enterprises art gallery on the Lower East Side. The entrance to the gallery is quite plain, so it's easy to overlook and miss this unique establishment. Once you enter and go through the brightly-lit gallery, you will find a door that opens up to Fig. 19. The sudden transition from a avant-garde, modern gallery to dim, classical Prohibition-era bar is a pleasant surprise. The small space is ornate and eccentrically decorated (think graceful chandeliers meet morbid and artful taxidermy). The menu itself is somewhat limited in its variety (11 cocktails on the menu). At the time I visited, all the cocktails were $14. I tried the Rose Selavy, which was esthetically stunning, but the taste was unmemorable. In addition, I found the venue's music choice and volume somewhat questionable and unfitting with the bar's intimate ambiance. My party had to scream across the table in order to be heard, which ceased all conversations quickly. Overall, I found the bar quite charming and definitely a unique experience. However, I'm not sure if I would return here in a heartbeat due to the aforementioned glitches. read more

I am in love with this place... So in love to the point that I recommend this place every single time my friends and I are on the LES... My date brought me here after being at another bar, and boy oh boy I was super impress. Almost like a speakeasy vibe with charm, retro look and small intimate seating, it "wowed" me. Very pretty drinks, and large selection of wines and liquor, you'll find yourself in a classic setting. Great for dates and if you are looking for a low key hangout spot. This has to be my favorite speakeasy bar ever!! I was visiting New York and my friend brought us to a few hipster bars in the area. This bar is pretty hidden, with a large open white room that you have to walk to in order to enter the non-discrete bar. The bar itself is dimly lit and was so unique. The cocktails were all amazing! Such interesting flavors and much more worth the $$ compared to those over priced rooftop bar drinks. I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area! read more

Visited with my partner and her best friend recently. We managed to grab three seats at the bar, which was a complete strike of luck due to how busy it was. I ordered the slow learner, my girlfriend ordered the vanishing point and our friend ordered the Prince. The slow learner may be one of my favorite rye cocktails I've ever had. It was quite strong which I enjoyed. The vanishing point was interesting, but my girlfriend noted that she most likely wouldn't order it again. The Prince was quite floral and refreshing, we'd all recommend it. As noted before, the bar was quite crowded which made conversation tough, but the music was interesting and fun. The bartender was curt yet very knowledgable of the menu. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quality cocktail. read more

One of my more favorite places to enjoy cocktails with friends in the city. This "speakeasy" is situated in the back of Lodge Art Gallery close to Chinatown on Chrystie. Usually there's a bouncer outside to check IDs. Bonus if there's an ongoing exhibit or show. Just head to the door in the back of gallery on the left. The inside is pretty cozy, and there's one private table in the back if you have a group. The bartenders are super nice - usually 1-2 of them depending on how busy. All the cocktails I've had are pretty good - also if you have tastes not on their menu they will gladly make for you too. Cocktails are a very reasonable $14 which by Manhattan/NYC standards is great! i could of sworn this place used to be cash-only, but they definitely take credit card now. The reason I like coming here is because it's usually not overly crowded - also no pretentiousness and super laid back crowd; seems more of a local spot. My only suggestion would be to turn down the music a just a slight tad, as it can sometimes get hard to talk, but that's not all the time. Fig 19 is yet another speakeasy that's popped up in LES. The front is a convincing (and operational) art gallery until you start wondering what art gallery is open at 11pm on a Saturday. I suppose the bonus is that you actually can check out said art gallery at 11pm and the rotating exhibits are actually pretty cool. The bouncer is usually equally conspicuously inconspicuous as he'll be the only random person hanging a little off around on the otherwise empty sidewalk for no reason. The art gallery is all white and the soundproofing is pretty good, because it is a reasonably believable front. It is a really cool effect to open the door to the bar (the door at the back left corner of the gallery) to walk into a very old-timey, dark bar. They've done a really cool job with the lighting, with chandeliers and a kind of 20's art deco vibe. Fig 19 is pretty empty most weeknights, and its quite an intimate setting which would be great for a date. Gets very very cramped on Friday and Saturdays which gets less pleasant. The house cocktails are really great - strong and pleasant - but as my friend commented last time we went, "all kind of girly" so I guess if you have an issue with your drink being pink (????) they also have a pretty well stocked bar. read more

I thought this place was so cool, probably too cool for me to be inside. It gives 1920 speak easy vibes. The bartenders were really friendly and really cute! The drinks were awesome, so interesting and new. I tried the Lavender one. It was tasty and floral. The music was great and I definitely danced a little. Some feel good pop music. You can always get people moving with Michael Jackson. Overall it was really chill. I will certainly return. Also the bathroom was so nice! So glad this are reopened, my friend and I got reservations around 8ish on a Saturday night, the bar had a good amount of people but quickly filled up in the next hour. My favorite cocktail was the Midnight in Paris and their margarita, so good! This is a great date spot but also a great place to drink with your friends, the crowd is definitely not geared towards college grads/students, which was not bad, it did get loud as more people came in. read more

I absolutely love this speakeasy! First off, DO NOT go down the stairs next door. It seems that this mistake is often made and while it seems that the stairs may lead to the speakeasy...it doesn't...it leads to a dive bar/club called Home Sweet Home. Directly next door is a bright lofty art gallery (I think it's called Lodge Gallery). The speakeasy is directly in the back through an obscure door that blends in with the gallery wall. The art work is interesting to take notice of too if you're into that sort of thing. When we passed through, there were these interesting spikes throughout the art gallery. The bar space is beautiful...spacious, clean, and very 1920s. There's a display of different birds, mirrors and art work throughout, a fireplace with candles and the bar even has an antique cash register. Music is loud but not loud enough where you have to scream to one another. Bartenders were friendly and prompt. For a Saturday evening, there was plenty of standing space. When we got there, it was easy to find two seats at the bar. There were comfy couches throughout as well. Drinks were affordable-$13 for their specialty cocktails! They had a great range of wines and spirits too. We ordered a Blackberry martini, the Bellet and a drink with vodka, lavender syrup (don't remember the other ingredients) and a glass of the prosecco (which they have on tap!!). The cocktails did not skimp on the alcohol at all...in fact I think they may have put too much. Great place to people watch too-a lot of interesting, unique and trendy people at the bar. During the hour and half, we were there, we saw groups of people going into the bathroom, a girl with a feather in her hair, and this very good looking couple making out. read more

Fig 19 is probably one of the more cleverly disguised speakeasies in the city. On a worn down street at the cusp of Chinatown and the LES, there's a brightly lit art gallery, open even into the late hours of the night. Enter: Fig 19. On a weekend evening, my friends and I arrived just at opening and watched as groups of people headed into Home Sweet Home, which is located right next door. The bouncer at the door took the requisite scan at our IDs and pointed us towards the door towards the back of the gallery. After passing by a rather discombobulated collection of works, we opened the gray door at the end and were a little thrown off by what awaited us: A room graced by several overhanging chandeliers, a fireplace, and a fully stocked bar. The predominant source of light is from the candles dispersed across the room, and a mix of lounge seats, chairs, and tables make up the bulk of the furniture. There's a surprising amount of standing room as well, which groups took advantage of as they waited for seats to open up. After my friends and I found our seats, we made our way over to bar. Despite skimming through the drink menu, I decided to go with my usual option of asking for the bartender's choice and requested a gin-based drink that was sweet and fruity (yes, I'm a girl). The mixologist nodded and in short time, placed a delicate glass that contained a maroon-colored concoction in front of me. When I asked her if there was a name for it, she gave a small smile and shook her head; an off-menu drink it was. And it was absolutely delicious - I could detect hints of raspberries, strawberries, and even a citrus undertone (lemon, perhaps lime?) to the drink, all complimenting the gin base subtly. She had been fairly generous with the proportions as well, as I started feeling the effects shortly afterwards. We spent a good few hours here, enjoying the company and conversation. Although the layout and set-up of the venue isn't conducive for smaller and more intimate groups, it's nice to have an option that can accomodate a larger number of people for a laid-back evening. read more

Of all the speakeasies that I've been to in Manhattan, Fig19 has the coolest entrance. I loved walking through the white walled art gallery and into what can only be described as someone's swanky living room complete with fireplace & chandeliers. We arrived on a Friday night and it was pretty packed, but there were definite waves. We ended up securing seats at a table about 45 minutes in, after we'd been at the bar. Unlike other speakeasies, I think they only had like 10 cocktails on the menu. The Fig spicy margarita was pretty good: tequila, blackberry puree, lime, and bitters. As a friend who frequents the spot often said, it was an off night. I agreed - the drink had a lot of potential. The next cocktail I had, The Prince, was much better: vodka, lavender syrup, st. germain, and lemon. The other drinks just didn't appeal to me because there seemed to be an ingredient in each that I was totally opposed to. C'est la vie. Overall, it was a really fun environment and was able to host the like 15 people in our group. read more

I love this spot! Went with a friend. Unfortunately we accidentally went to 'home sweet home' first. Set foot in there and said, 'Hell no, this isn't it.' Automatically knew we were in the wrong spot. Ok. Jk, jk. Try again... Went back outside to the bouncer. You'd think he would of asked us where we were going since there are two spots he's checking ID's for. Le sigh...He proceeds to tell us to go through an art gallery. Ok, that's much more like it... The art gallery has a few extremely interesting photos as you pass through it to get to Fig 19... This Fig 19? Place is clean and classy. Yes, classy is a prerequisite for me. I felt comfy and chill having sips here with a friend. I picked the last elixir on the cocktail menu. I forget the name. All I remember is that the drink was sweet and smoky. An amazing combo. Another speakeasy crossed off my list! I really wish I could give this 5 stars because I had a wonderful experience here, but when rating speakeasies, I weigh the creativity of the cocktails pretty heavily given what else is out there. Death & Co and Angel's Share are the gold standard. Don't get me wrong, the cocktails here were great, but not mind-blowingly so. Anyway, I'll say 4.5 because I love everything about this space! Came here on a Friday night after receiving some very unfortunate news about the wait at Attaboy (when a bouncer needs to flip through several pages to count how many people are ahead of you, not a good sign). Thankfully, we got right in here. I actually knew very little about Fig 19 coming into this, so I didn't realize that it was hidden in an art gallery. Major points for the disguise. After awkwardly searching for some sort of giveaway, a bouncer asked us what we were looking for--thankfully, we were in the right place. The art gallery on its own is actually quite nice. Bright, colorful, clean....adjectives not typically used to describe a bar. So after walking through and finding the right unmarked door (just listen for music and talking...this part is not very hard--take it from someone who is strangely challenged in just general common sense..), we entered the gorgeous, intimate little space that is Fig 19. I was pretty surprised to see how empty it was here (this was around 11 or so). The irony with New York speakeasies is that they're actually the MOST known bars (see: sad news from Attaboy). Not that I'm complaining--getting a seat at a cozy booth near the fireplace (?!?) no problem is something to be relished. This space is just beautiful (if I hadn't made that clear yet). It's like a decadent parlor/lounge room or something. Fireplace, chandeliers, candles--just awesome. Speaking on candles, the one burning in the bathroom smelled heavenly and I momentarily thought about taking it. Sober me would have had the same thought, I assure you. And now onto the drinks. Sadly I can't say much because the menu isn't online, but I can tell you that I ordered one of the two rye cocktails on the menu, and it came with a generous sprig of rosemary as a garnish (see picture). Definitely the best drink I had all night. One annoyance though: the menu is probably the smallest of any of the speakeasies I've been to. Not that quantity = quality, but I prefer more options. There wasn't much in terms of gin, which is what I was in the mood for. Regardless--what they do, they do well. read more

This spot plays really good music it kind if reminds me of the bars in whiteplains which makes it so much harder to give it a not so good review. The space is really cramped making it a struggle to get to the bar. The bar area was a total mess with spilled drinks and other stuff scattered around. The previous time I was here was on my birthday 3 years ago. Back then it was relaxing and I think they played jazz? I think there was a slight wait as they were doing more crowd control. We had a great time and chatted with the friendly and knowledgeable bartenders/mixologists (whatever you want to call them). Fast forward to last night when we went for my buddy's birthday. There was no wait to my surprise. We leisurely checked out the iconophilia exhibit displayed in the gallery before entering the speakeasy. The place was so stuffy and crowded. The music was super loud and some weird alternative edm stuff that we couldn't sound hound. We managed to get seats at the bar. Thankfully the drinks are still amazing!!
