Don't you hate the review from the out of towner? I've been here each visit to the cape. Solo and with others. I actually messaged the local Yelpers about 'can't miss' spots, and this was one that kept being mentioned. Why not 5 stars? Because I don't rate like all the out of towners who have never tasted hollandaise on lobster before. The food is very good, and I will continue to visit. My problem is, I am treated like an outsider/tourist. I have always been rushed to leave, so they can use the seat. They literally set my check down first, then set my plate on top of it. Now it's twice I was at the counter seat by myself when this happened. When with others at a table, the server kept making references to the register. That table turn push is just not friendly. The greatest tip I can give to the owner, would be the App NoWait that pairs with Yelp. See the wait time, and get in line. OK that's the gripe, now the glow! The food is fantastic. They use a lot of fresh from the garden items to create daily specials. They build meals correct. Lobster is actual lobster. Corned beef hash(my favorite) is a beef that they prepped and cooked. Sliced off in steak form. diced into cubes, and skillet tossed with veggies and seasoning. Not dumped from a can or using somebodies deli sliced meat instead. The Hollandaise is creamy, even, and light. I applaud anything they want to create with that on it. I like the skin on potatoes served. I know the Red skins and maybe whites? They are always cooked throughout, and well seasoned. The side of fruit is always fresh cut, never frozen or canned. I've sampled the pancakes off anothers plate. They are good, but still not the one that makes me moan out loud. I cannot vouch for all the baked goods. Everything on the chalkboard(muffins, scones, donuts, cookies) are all homemade. I cannot vouch that the bread(toast), english muffins, or bagels are made in house. I do wonder if they make the sandwich rolls, or buns. The interior is tastefully decorated. Not cluttered with nick nacks. Great wood floors that have always been clean. Counter tops, and wainscoting is done with a flair of compliment to the paint colors. I really like a chalkboard wall with artistic flair. Colors, fonts, artwork, caricatures, are all the right elements to draw, and hold the eye. This place used to be amazing when it was the Mills. I went this morning with some friends who were in town visiting and was very disappointed. Service was slow and forgetful, and the food was mediocre at best. The shredded hash browns look like they came out of an old freezer box, and the home fries tasted artificial and plastic. The new ownership's food is nowhere near as good as the Mills used to be. Will not return. read more

Great little restaurant with AWESOME food and service. There are probably less than 20 tables,but it doesn't feel crammed. Our server was a wonderfully hospitable young man. Pros: nice atmosphere, fair prices, polite waitstaff Cons: under-staffed so long wait time, undercooked food I went here for an early lunch yesterday with my family. They accommodated the 7 of us, seating us separately, despite how busy it was. The waitstaff were polite and helpful- making recommendations and promptly bringing over drinks. The atmosphere is warm and homey. I ordered the chocolate-drizzled French toast special with whipped cream, powdered sugar, and real maple syrup. The food took a very long time because the kitchen is short staffed. Eventually, our food came and I got the French toast, though it didn't have the whipped cream, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. I was very hungry and just wanted to eat, so I didn't bother to ask for the extras. The French toast wasn't very good; it was soggy. I suspected it was undercooked but again, I was very hungry and didn't want to send it back and wait longer. The waitstaff were polite, but they did not check in to ask how our food was after we received it. The restaurant was closing at 2 but they allowed us to stay past 2 and finish our meal. We got the check and noticed the whipped cream, powdered sugar, and maple syrup costs extra. I never got it, but we didn't have the mistake corrected. Later that day, I was in the mall with my family. My stomach began to hurt and I felt uncomfortably hot and overwhelmed. As we drove home, nausea began to set in. Hot and clammy, I clutched an empty tissue box in case I threw up in the car. I made it home and sat on the bathroom floor, sick with nausea for a few hours. I also got a strange red rash on my skin. By that night, I was feeling better and the nausea subsided. From my symptoms, I think I got salmonella food poisoning. The only other thing I ate before lunch yesterday was a piece of bread with peanut butter. I wish I sent back the French toast! read more

Having passed by this place many times cutting across from Route 28 to the highway I was always intrigued. As any breakfast or food establishment tends to do to me. So the day before Christmas Eve on the way to Khol's to pick up a gift, I finally stopped in and checked it out. Quiet morning just a few locals stirring in diner. It's very welcoming and has a mother's kitchen feel to it. Fresh baked muffins, canolis, and other baked goods in cases on display. Wooden floors and rustic drapery. They have a small bar counter with maybe 6 seats that overlooks a partial open kitchen and the main area where the waitresses grab plates and hang in between tables and orders. The service is friendly and welcoming and their menu is very attractive and something on their for anyone. They have great specials and combos so you can try different options and see what you like. I'd never been here before a friend suggested lunch last week. The menu seemed to have something for everyone--I struggled to decide between a few tempting items and settled on the homemade veggie burger. Service was typical for a small restaurant in the summertime on Cape Cod and our server was friendly and attentive. Delicious food, the menu has the usual breakfast favorites along with some different and exciting ones. The overall vibe of this place is amazing and exactly what my friend and i have been looking for. I got eggs and turkey sausage which i was pleasantly surprised was homemade! My friend got strawberry cheesecake pancakes which had cheesecake pieces mixed into the pancake batter- soooo good! We were both super happy to find they have cold brew and different flavor syrups. The new owners of The Mills have really stepped up and elevated this place in all aspects. Improvements abound from the stylish new logo, updated interior, the service and most importantly the food! Going on a Thursday morning, we pretty much had the place to ourselves- there was plenty of business but not the crowded rushing type- and it was quite enjoyable. Everybody was attentive and friendly and the food was much improved. This restaurant was super cute and the food was pretty good. When my group and I got there, we were told there was a 40 minute wait which we were OK with. It gave us time to study the menu so we were able to order as soon as we sat down at 11 AM. This is where things went south. We started to notice that no tables around us were eating or had food. In fact, we didn't get our food until 11:45! I get that things happen and restaurants can be unpredictable, but in that case at least communicate with your customers and let them know you're keeping an eye on the food. I felt like our server was totally ignoring us. We literally just sat there and waited for 45 minutes for pancakes and omelets, and we were only a party of 4. No way. As soon as we finished our meal, one of the workers (presumably the manager) came up to us and asked us to leave so she could seat another party. Mind you, this was about 20/25 minutes after we got our food. It is so weird to kick out a table after they waited 85 minutes total to eat at your restaurant, especially so shortly after they actually got their food. I really wanted to like this place but they just seem disorganized, and the service needs a lot of work. Food was not worth the wait. Edit: I would never "tag team" a bad review with a friend, we both had a bad experience and unknowingly wrote our own reviews. Being a small business does not excuse poor service read more

Honestly a bit torn. My friends and I arrived at the cafe, waited 40 minutes to be seated, and then an hour to get our food after placing the order. And then just two minutes after we received our check, we were told to leave to make space for other people and were rushed out. The food was good, the service just was not. This cafe open 7AM to 2PM was one of the highlights of my annual trip to the Cape. It's in Marston Mills but just on the border of Osterville and 1.5 miles from where I stay. I walked to and from three times and it was consistently great. The menu is unusually long for a breakfast/lunch place of its kind. The hollandaise (which I didn't try) is homemade and cheap. The corned beef hash with poached eggs was terrific and so was my veggie cheese scramble. Most surprising, the local organic coffee (which you can buy for 11.99 a bag) some of the best coffee I've ever tasted. You see a handful of Bentleys in the parking lot next to pickup trucks and Honda Accords: a perfect metaphor for the Cape, where you have a great many wealthy people living amongst those who cater to them in various capacities. It's much cheaper than comparable places in LA or Santa Barbara and the quality is higher. I love the Mills and can't wait to go back the next time I am on the Cape, which I hope will be before next summer for my annual pilgrimage. read more

Really enjoyed this spot, which I am sure is a favorite of locals and travelers alike. We felt warmly welcomed and the breakfast menu has plenty of options on it, including a nice list of daily specials. I went for a special - the lemon ricotta pancakes - and they were out of this world. Fluffy and flavorful with a nice portion of fruit (seasonal fresh mixed berries!) and whipped cream on top. The lemon and ricotta were not overpowering, but still able to taste them. I want to try and recreate these at home sometime! Fresh squeezed orange juice was also solid. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive and you could tell she was just happy to be there. A great place to start our morning of activities on the Cape! Parking is tough - a handful of spots and certainly the place was popular, so plan for a little bit of traffic in the lot. Definitely a place I would return to! read more

I went to this warm and inviting hole-in-the-wall restaurant next door to a Shell gas station. It was well decorated with both a chalkboard painted wall with specials and various muffins and other baked goods. I were seated immediately and served coffee. Do yourself a favor and get an omelette. I had the special crabmeat and asparagus with Boursin cheese with home fries. The best thing about this was that not only was it huge, but every bite of the omelette had either crab, asparagus or cheese in it. This thing was STUFFED with quality ingredients !! I went to the new Fig Tree yesterday and got a Philly cheese steak sandwich that far exceeded my expectation in every way. Even the bun was lightly toasted and warmed to PERFECTION. Better that Pat's in Philly! My friend got some sort of a salad that looked killer. I would definitely go again and again. First and last time visiting. I ordered a bagel toasted dark with cream cheese for breakfast, and a lobster roll to-go for lunch on the beach. The bagel was lightly toasted at best, and had barely enough cream cheese to cover it. And the lobster roll was basically just a hot dog roll full of mayonnaise, with a little bit of lobster and a little bit of lettuce. read more
