My wife and I recently stopped by for their special Campania Night. Great food, great drinks, great service and ambiance. We spent almost $300 before tip, but the reason for the 3-star review is this: we felt highly insulted when we got the bill back after we gave our server our credit card, and the bill now had an added $7.xx charge on it because we dared use a credit card. How else were we gonna pay? Who carries cash? Should we have written a check? Really, if you're gonna play in the high-end restaurant game, build these fees into your meal prices, don't slap the customer in the face with a 3% fee for using the most common method of payment there is. We've been treating a night out to Figulina as a special treat since it's not a low-medium price establishment. Our bills there are usually in the $200 range for just my wife and I, but after the insult we were just dealt, not sure we'll make it back anytime soon. This was an incredible dinner, and I think what was really the icing on the cake was our server, Melody. I was asked if there were any allergies at the table and I said I was very allergic the grapefruit. She right away asked the kitchen if they had any grapefruit and let me know that there wasn't any, which I really appreciated. I was just extremely grateful at how attentive and thoughtful that was and wanted to mention it. She was very attentive the entire meal and knowledgeable about the menu. It was three of us at the table and we were very much looking forward to this dinner, so we ordered two appetizers, four pastas, and one dessert to share. It was definitely more than enough to go around. We also ordered the bread to sop up the sauces, and I swear I could have ordered three more pieces just for the sauce alone. My favorite was the duck confit and chanterelle raviolo with sherry. That was INCREDIBLE. Can I buy a pint glass of the sauce please? We also ordered the tartare, the Market Lettuces, Orecchiette, Scarpinocc, and Rigatoni. All were beautifully made and presented. For dessert we had the sweet potato creme brulee with a ginger snap cookie and maple marshmallow on top. I had the Amaro Falso for a mocktail! All in all, what a wonderful dinner and experience. We ordered three pastas, and each one was in my top ten of all time. All three were singular and distinct, but not just a one-note bite. It was hard to choose a favorite, but I think the scarpinocc was my favorite. Mafaldine at a close second, and the agnolotti at a close third. I loved that you could see the fresh pasta being made in the kitchen, and I also love a cold High Life bottle with dinner. Cucumber gazpacho was fresh and different, and the bread was great too. In a convenient location in the warehouse district of Raleigh is this great little pasta place. The ambiance was relaxed and service attentive. We split the shaved Brussels salad which was fantastic and we each enjoyed an entree. I looked around and noticed every other table had focaccia. Since I wanted to soak up all the delicious pasta sauce, I asked our server for some. She quietly said it was $3.00 a piece. I was like, um okay. Did everyone pay $3.00? Some of the most unique and delicious Italian I've ever had. The bread (costs $5 but is 100% worth it), the heirloom tomato, the risotto, the octopus, the drinks... all delicious! The food can definitely push you out of your comfort zone as far as what you think of when you think Italian in America, but it's all amazing. The service was perfect. Incredibly friendly staff who helped guide you through all the menus and food came out in appropriate times (I.e. not too fast where you're rushing through your dinner but no long waits at all). Ambiance is nice with the pasta window, indoor and outdoor seating, and bar seating if needed. Figulina is located in the space previously occupied by Humble Pie. My friend and I met up for dinner here and sat at the bar. We started off with drinks, it was a beer for me and one of the cocktails for her. After that we both had two pours of their still rose. For food we split the pistachio butter for an appetizer and the panna cotta for dessert. For our meals it was the Mafaldine for me and the Rigatoni for her. Went for dinner and the handmade pastas did not disappoint! We shared the whipped ricotta and greens salad which were both phenomenal. The salad is surprisingly full of flavor. As a vegetarian there were three pasta choices which we had the gemelli and rotolo which had unique flavors and were cooked beautifully. My least favorite part of the meal (shockingly) was dessert. Figulina has done an excellent job transforming the Humble Pie space into a pasta-making Mecca. You can watch the chefs hard at work making wells in dough and forming the sheets for ravioli and agnolotti. Our service was a bit spotty but the food was wonderful. We tried the Doppio Ravioli, which was delectable with roasted carrots in half and rabbit confit in the other. The Pappardelle Bolognese was also hearty and flavorful. We also tried the Brussels which are served in a cold salad and the beets with whipped ricotta. My dinner companions did not love the soda bread that came with the lamb rillette but the dish itself was tasty. I told RESY and the waiter about it. Nobody offered us a cup of prosecco or a small pastry with a candle. The waiter moved us to another table because of a mistake in service. Surprising! We were so sad to see Humble Pie close, yet excited to try its replacement. They kept the bare bones inside the building and kept decor very minimalistic. We really enjoyed the brussel sprout salad and lamb small plates to start. The pastas were very delicious; the gnocchi was very bright and the other short rib pasta was one of the most unique pastas I've ever tasted (very savory). We can almost never skip dessert and the chocolate mousse tart did not disappoint! The service was wonderful and still had that homey, Humble Pie feel. The food was terrific, and the service has some hiccups to get worked out -- but the staff was empowered to make all errors right with the customer, which is something I value tremendously. Staff was knowledgeable about ingredients and the wine list, and, eager to respond to your questions. Nothing surly or snotty in the staff here! Our pasta dishes were great, but I highly recommend the one with preserved lemon -- the other dishes were "this is very good, but something I have had before." The one with preserved lemon stood out. And the basic greens salad was fantastic (loved the seared garlic). I might hold off on ordering the salad with Pink Lady apples until they're back in season - it was a little bland in color, and thus less fun to eat. Tried this hot new fresh made pasta place in downtown Raleigh on March 28. Coming from North Raleigh was slightly tricky as was not familiar with this part of downtown. The google map took us up Commerce street and said "arrived". Well, sort of. At that spot you are directly behind the restaurant. if there is a spot to park there grab it and you can cut thru the parking lot there. But I had no such luck and so went around the block to Harrington street which is the proper front. There is street parking there but it was already taken. We arrived at 5:15pm as we usually get dinner on the early side. But a business right next door at 313 Harrington made their parkting lot available for a fee so I just grabbed that. More expensive than street but right there and easy with a parking app as i recall. We were greeted right away and seated right away. The ambiance is comfortable, practiced casual if you will. Staff very professional, knowledgable and capable. Service was Excellent. We ordered, as pictured, a Lamb Rillette to start followed by a Cappelletti, Ravioli, and Campanelle. We finished with two Chocolate Tarts and a Panna Cotta for $129+tax and tip. Oh yeah I had a glass of Chianti. What to say. First, the ingredients are absolutely first rate. Everything was super fresh. Pasta was of course superb. Room for improvement? First, the menu in the end felt vegetarian with a nod to meat. Second, it tasted like the meat was cooked separately in a crock pot and then added in. Third, the seasoning and flavors were simple I guess. We were very excited to try this new pasta restaurant opened by Poole's Diner's former chef de cuisine David Ellis! We sat at the bar area, which was ironic since we weren't drinking. The ambiance and vibes of this place were amazing! One of the bartenders was very knowledgeable in the details of how the food is made, including how they use every bit of food that other restaurants may just throw off as scraps, which I absolutely love and appreciate. We started out with the pink lady apples chopped salad, which was incredibly delicious. The funk from the gorgonzola combined with the sweetness from the apples and roastiness from the hazelnuts made for a delicious, crunchy salad. The whipped ricotta appetizer was also recommended as the ricotta is made in house - the beets and olives were nice but we felt like this dish was missing something, perhaps some acidity and/or herbs, and the carrots were unnecessary here, although I suspect they may be scraps from other carrot dishes which I can appreciate the use of if this is the case. For entrees, I got the nori bucatini which was my favorite dish of the night - the pasta texture and shape was on point, the lump crab was cooked perfectly, and the black garlic butter sauce brought all the incredible richness and flavor. My husband got the ravioli with confit rabbit and this pasta was also incredibly well-made and perfectly thin - the puree on the bottom was made with leftover whey from the housemade ricotta as well as roasted carrots. Had to give this place a try since it's a brand new restaurant in Raleigh with homemade pasta in house. Made reservations and they require you to put a card down, I do not normally continue to place a reservation when places ask for this. We were seated right away as our reservation was for when it opened. Our waiter was super attentive and descriptive of the food, we barely had a chance to greet one another at the table. Each had a glass of wine to start and placed our food order. My friend ordered the Carbonara and I ordered the Duck Ravioli and focaccia bread. Our meal arrived in 5 minutes, way too quickly. Some people might enjoy a quick turn around but it seemed like they were trying to get us in and out as quick as possible. The carbonara was great, a standard dish with noodles that were very delicate and wavy. The ravioli was good, it is one big ravioli in gravy with mushrooms on top. It was a very savory meal, but for the price I would have preferred another as well. It was a unique twist on a classic dish and tasted a bit like a barbecue ravioli. Overall glad I tried the new restaurant, but do not believe I will need to stop again. Very expensive for a glass of wine and ravioli. The first time we went here was for brunch. I wanted to try the pasta so I ordered the carbonara. The noodles were just ok. The sauce was a heavy mix of cream and cheese. Not on the lighter side. And extremely salty. Last night four of us tried it for dinner. The market lettuces were very fresh. There was not as much roasted garlic as there was when I had it for brunch. I tried the bolognese tagliatelle. The pasta again was heavy. Not like a traditional light homemade pasta. The sauce wasn't prepared like a typical bolognese that one would be used to. It had a light touch of broth with pieces of meat. We asked for bread and beware the bread is five dollars a piece! Although very delicious For some reason the pastas here just don't taste homemade. My grandmother used to make homemade pasta and it was very light and airy. This tasted like the prepackaged type you can buy in a supermarket. When the glass of Chardonnay came it was all bubbly. My partner who is a chef asked why it was so bubbly and Chardonnay isn't supposed to pour with bubbles our server said , "Believe me. I'm well aware that Chardonnay isn't suppose to pour with bubbles. We aren't a James Beard award winner for nothing " He had a very bad attitude towards our table after that. He also misinformed us and told us that the pasta portions were the size of the bread dishes. When we turned around we saw other pasta people were eating and it was in a bigger bowl. I think he was aiming at us ordering a lot. The lemon drop martini I had was 1/4 full and tasted like it had hardly any liquor in it. A few friends of ours that were there who aren't foodies were asking the server basic questions he acted like he couldn't be bothered. He has no business shunning customers who ask questions. The fresh pasta itself was great, plates were a little smaller than we were thinking. Similar to other reviews the bolognese was more of a stroganoff vibe vs what most people think of when it comes to traditional bolognese. The eggs of the carbonara were a little scrambled.
