As first hand experience of figure skates fitting and buying. I had no idea what skates were going to work. Lillian did a great job with sizing, fitting, and overall service. She took the time to make sure that I was confident with my purchase. Terry on the other hand was sharpening blades from skaters. I was there today for Ice skates fitting. I had an awesome experience in general! I love how personalized their services are. Lilian took the time from measurement, gait analysis to thermo molding my chosen skates! I love it too that they got the skates I preferred when I informed them 2 days before my appointment. So I brought home my awesome at the same day of my fitting! One thing I noticed? Their prices are lower from my online search. And THEY don't try to sell things out to you. With that, I bought all the necessary skating apparels I need!!! Best is not yet over! So Terri Ann is my new best friend. Let me give you a little backstory. I decided for my 35th birthday I was going to get back into skating. I brought Terri my crappy old skates I'd gotten as a teenager and she told me why they wouldn't be good for jumps, etc. I ended up buying Jackson Freestyles which felt like little clouds on my feet. She adjusted them to make them custom fit my wonky feet. Fast forward 5 1/2 years, I have a nasty bunion on my foot which has made skating near impossible for me lately. I drove four hours to come up here to hopefully have her adjust them. The store Is tiny and it was crowded today. But they have the most amazing customer service. Lillian took my skates and let me know there were a few people ahead of me. No problem, I had planned to hang out. The shop closes at 4 but because I had been waiting, along with another family, they made sure to still help us. We were not rushed and we felt like they paid very close attention to us, answering any questions we had. Both Terri and Lillian are experts and I loved listening to them talk. Anyway, Terri was able to adjust my skate to where it NO LONGER HURT to skate, which is amazing. Also, because I bought my skates there so many years ago, she did not charge me for all the work she did. That is real customer service. Teri and Lilian are, as someone else here said, absolute gems! I decided to get back on the ice after quitting at 13 (I'm now 22). When I quit I was working on double jumps-- I have no idea if I'll ever get to that level again, but I wanted to get some skates that would be able to handle that impact if I potentially am able to, and I wanted to get a pair that will have some longevity to them. Teri and Lilian were incredibly kind and authentic, did not try to up sell me to a ridiculously expensive and obviously unnecessarily fancy boot (other local skate shops absolutely did this). They will help you find a high quality product for a reasonable price. When I first went into the shop I was fitted; they didn't have the boot we'd decided would be best for me in my size, so they ordered them into the shop. About a week later I received the text that they had arrived! They found a perfect match for my foot type and spent plenty of time stretching the boots where they needed to be stretched and heat molded them to my feet. They also mounted and sharpened my blades for me and offered their assistance if I feel any pain upon returning to the ice. One thing that others have mentioned that I do agree with: If you come for a fitting, either try to get an appointment mid-day on a weekday before they open at 3, or show up with patience. Actually, regardless of when you go, go with patience and a positive attitude- some of you are getting new skates, after all! They are a small shop catering to a lot of people and you have to be understanding and have a good attitude. Go with an excess of time to spare! I needed to get a pair of skates so that I could keep up w/ my 4 1/2 yr old daughter who is beginning to take lessons. I did not want to buy them off the internet, because I was concerned they would not fit. After I received my skates, I found out that I would have been right (I also would not have saved any real money either). Terry made several measurements of my feat and then picked the perfect sized skates. When they arrived, he boxed the toes and made a few other adjustments so that they would fit my feet perfectly. He also water-proofed the soles and sharpened the blades. All of these extra services are not included when you buy from discount skates in the internet (plus you have to pay shipping). He is very conscientious, doesn't try to talk you into something that you don't need, and spends the time required to make sure you get the perfect fit. If you go skating on a regular basis (even once per month), throw down a little money and get a pair of real skates. Your feet won't hurt any more and you will have so much more fun when you do go skating. When you are ready to buy those skates, come to the figure skate pro shop, you will be in good hands. read more

My husband took my daughter's skates over for sharpening. My daughter said it was still too dull. When my husband took the skates back a few days later, Terri charged him again for sharpening. They are knowledgeable, but bad customer service. Just make sure you try your skates on right after sharpening at the rink and make sure it is good before you leave! read more

Terry is the best there is! And definitely worth the wait. He doesn't try talking you into buying the most expensive or unnecessary things. He's all about great customer service, which is why I am a loyal customer, through and through. I think he mans the shop on his own during weeknights (wife helps on weekends) and takes walk-ins as well as reservations, so most of the time there is a wait but like I said, it's worth it to get his undivided attention and expertise. The Figure Skating Pro Shop is a tiny gem located at the Ice Oasis skating rink. I needed to get fitted for new figure skates as I thought I had outgrown my $500 SP Teri boots. Terry, the owner wasn't pushy selling his figure skates (mostly Riedell and Jacksons), was honest, knowledgable and helpful. Yo! posting my first yelp review for this little pro shop at redwood city. Terry was soooo helpful in fixing the bad sharpening done to my skates by "the handsome young man behind the counter who just learned how to sharpen hockey skates yesterday", haha. The minute he said that the bad sharpening had caused me to have no outside edge skating forwards and no inside edge skating backwards, I knew that I was in good hands. He moved on to ask me what my skating level was and he tuned my blades to what I needed. I would definitely come back for every one of the future sharpening. It was such a nice experience! read more

Decided to start skating again after being off the ice for a decade but had to get new skates since my old ones were too small. Terri did an OK job finding a book that matched my old ones since they are no longer made, though I'm not sure if they will ever feel the same as my old ones. I did make an appointment, but soon realized that didn't matter. Kids and parents were coming in non stop talking to her, shoving things in her face to buy, interrupting our appointment and being extremely rude to both me and Terri. Once my blades were in after ordering, I went back for her for mounting - in my experience this is the time consuming part of new skates so that the blades are mounted just right. She spent maybe 10 minutes with me and sent me on my way without looking at my posture or feet, etc. Again, I made an appointment, but she was so busy with the parents and kids that kept coming in and interrupting her. I skated on them intermittently for almost 2 years before realizing that the mount was so off that I couldn't do anything. Ended up taking them back to the east coast to have the blades remounted - my left blade had to be moved so far that her original screw holes were hidden by the blade. It has made a world of difference. I will not be going back to her for sharpening or skates but instead will take them back to the east coast when I travel. read more

My daughter has wide feet with narrow heels, so getting the right fit is tricky! Last year, I wanted to purchase a pair of figure skates. After reading the good reviews on Yelp about the skating pro-shop at Ice Oasis skating rink in Redwood City, I decided to visit the shop despite the long distance from San Jose where I live. The owner of the pro-shop, Teri, took time to help me select the skates based on my skating level and needs, not based on my affordability. Then, she made effort to custom fit my new boots. In addition to heat-molding the boots, she had them punched and stretched to relieve pressure at ankle and toe locations, which significantly shortened the break in period. Besides being very knowledgeable about skating boots and blades, Teri is also well-informed about figure skating. Before I came to her, I had been wearing the wrong socks for skating and had known very little about blade hollow and rocker radii. I walked out of the shop with a greater knowledge of figure skating. Last week I returned to the shop to upgrade my blades to ones that suit the skating improvement I've made. Instead of selling me the expensive blades I had in mind, he recommended the less expensive blades based on my level. I am very happy with the blades she helped me select and glad I took her advice. Another thing I want to mention is the wait. Sometimes, when Teri has several customers to serve, you have to wait for your turn. However, it will be a well-worth wait. A small shop owned by 2 honest owners inside the ice rink building. My boyfriend and I went there to get fitted and Lillian provided her utmost dedication to getting the right shoes for us. Since the shop didn't have the brands and size we wanted to try out, we did have to wait a little over 2 weeks before we got the call to come by and try out the new shipments of skates. Once we decided on the skates we wanted to buy, we got to go on the ice rink next door to try them out and Terry fixed the kinks we had with our skates. The customer service at this shop was wonderful. This shop is always super busy so I recommend coming early and have patience. read more

I'm glad i found this place for my skates. Being new to figure skating, i couldn't find the perfect skates, the rentals weren't helping. I didn't want to risk buying skates online as i wasn't sure of the size/fit/performance. I tried the shop at San Jose's Sharks ice but the staff weren't helpful. Finally, some one recommended this place and i haven't looked back since. Terry was helpful, patience, spend time educating about the skates (including the lace etc) and let me try 3 or more skates in a single session. They even let customers try it on the rink and fix the skates based on the feedback. I couldn't as i was in a hurry but enjoying the set of Jackson skates. I would recommend this place for a any new skaters. I just wish they take appointments but don't mind waiting for this kind of a service. read more

Terry is super nice and knowledgeable! I got my boyfriend's first pair of skates there. It's really hard to get black skates around here, especially entry level skates. Not only did Terry spend lots of time trying and fitting different skates, he also taught my boyfriend how to lace up his skates, how to tell if they are a correct fit, what happens when they are not sharpened properly, etc. Even though he didn't have the correct fit in his shop, he helped us order it and it arrived a few weeks later. He then did another hour worth of fitting to make sure that it fitted nicely and even helped us shape the ball for a better fit! I am super duper glad that I found him on Yelp! The drive up is soooooo worth it. I am going to let him sharpen my skates from now on. I just purchased my figure skates there and I am one happy customer. It's my first time purchasing here but have already gone through 2 figure skates over the years so I had an idea of what I wanted. After many years and a pregnancy, my feet changed so I knew it would be best to get fitted. They did a great job fitting me, even followed me while I walked around to make sure the boots felt right and the blades were mounted where I needed them to be. They also heat molded them that same day. My new Jacksons are so comfortable already, I can't wait to get back on the ice! their prices are great, You don't save by buying new online, and their customer service is SUPERB. I live clear across the bay but I plan on using them for all of my skating needs. They've got my business for sharpenings, making the skates more comfortable... I had the worst experience in the pro shop for the year today. It was a busy day on a Saturday after Thanksgiving holiday. There were 2 parties ahead of us before we got there. Terry was the only person in the shop. During the 1 hour I was there, there were 3 more people came and interrupted her but they all left their skates there to sharpen later. Throughout the entire time, Terry was bitching about someone suppose to come back from medical leave to run the pro shop with her but did not show up. She said it was her mistake to come in today. Her stress level is high etc. My ask was to sharpen my daughter's new pair of skate bought at a different day and fit the new GuardDog skate guards onto the skates. When it was my turn, there is only another party still waiting. I was trying to see how she fitted the GuardDog (did not use this before) and came close. I guess she felt being pressured and just broke out. She came off the seat and stood one head over me and gave me a growling face with both arms open, about three inches close to me, yelling I can't stand this stress level! Then she came back sit and started poking the screws that ties the strings to the GuardDog with screw driver. It was so scared!!! Both me and the other family waiting there did not say anything. I quickly said calm down and watched till everything done and left the shop. Oh man, I don't think I'd ever ever want to go back there! read more
