Over the last few months, I have researched a variety of care/living options for my uncle,…read moreincluding at-home care and senior community living. I was immediately impressed when I researched Springfield Place in Petaluma, CA. The staff went out of their way to answer questions and to provide any help needed before, during, and after the decision-making process of whether or not this was the right location for my uncle. Once he decided that this was where he wanted to be, the staff helped in every way possible to get him moved in and set up in his new home, including personally going to Kaiser's medical offices when we were having trouble getting some of the required forms signed by the doctor. Without their help to navigate Kaiser's medical system, I think we would still be waiting on those forms long after I had to return home on the East Coast. The staff had excellent covid protocols in place that made me feel like my uncle would be as safe as possible. They had a great set of documents to help me organize what was needed to move him in quickly and efficiently. Their facilities staff was helpful in hanging a few pictures that I couldn't manage. The front desk had a welcome sign up for my uncle during his entire first week there. The other residents made a point to come introduce themselves and to say hello. There was a notable mix of residents who were at various stages of care and mobility, and they were often out in the common areas talking and socializing with each other. There was a guest room that I was able to use for a couple of days to help make the transition a bit easier. The food was surprisingly good, and I'm rather picky. I was expecting cafeteria level food and was delighted to find that the food was restaurant quality....and better than a few restaurants that I went to during my stay. They have a variety of rooms layouts available, all at different costs. We went with a large studio with a large den, and we used the den as a bedroom. This apartment that we chose doesn't have a window in the bedroom/den, but it does have two large French doors that open into the living space making it feel bigger and brighter. We were able to fit a lot more furniture and "stuff" than I had imagined due to the extra closets by the bathroom. I know a lot of people are concerned about the costs of senior care facilities, but at Springfield Place we got the apartment, the assistance of the facilities team, the nursing staff, laundry assistance for towels and sheets, the front desk staff, three meals per day, heating, electricity, and community activities all within the price of the monthly payment. When you add all of that up and then add on top of it the fact that you know that your loved one is not alone and that there is someone always around to make sure they are okay.... the price seems more than reasonable. The price does increase a little depending upon the level of care that your loved one needs, but even that seems reasonable, especially after seeing how well the staff cares for those who need additional levels of care. All in all, I am very happy with the experience and am really glad that we found Springfield Place. Plus, as my uncle says "It's close to the golf course!"

He had been quite resistant to moving from his independent living facility in the south bay, but it was clear he was not getting the care he needed there, even though we were paying for extra services. After an illness and 10 day hospital stay, we knew he couldn't go back there and are delighted and grateful that Creekwood had an opening. They were flexible about his recovery needs and the transition went very smoothly. He is very content and calm and is actually showing signs of cognitive improvement now that he has all of his needs met at Creekwood. The facility is always clean, and the kind staff is wonderful! Everything is included in the monthly rate: help with showering, dressing, shaving, bathroom help, medication administration, incontinence supplies, so you don't have to piecemeal individual service costs, which makes things so much easier. The best part is I have the utmost confidence that all of his needs are being met and he truly feels at home now.

When asked for recommendations from family members regarding my observations of the many different locations I spend time in (since there are presently about 6 different memory care facilities right now in my route) I enthusiastically share my impressions of Primrose, and encourage them to explore the organization. Clearwater at Sonoma Hills targets families in crisis and withholds critical information until it's too late. I have filed a formal complaint with the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD). Sales Director H***** Sch**** pressured us by saying they only had one room left, and "I needed to grab it", then quickly collected our $8,455 from me with a written promise the deposit was "100% refundable." The place was always empty, which should have been my first clue, despite reading about some other bad experiences I naivly gave over my our retirement money under duress. She never once mentioned a refund timeline or any conditions before, during, or at the time of payment, despite having SO many opportunities, which is misleading at best, if not downright unscrupulous and intentional omission AKA LYING! My mother has Alzheimer's. Ho***e had met her in person multiple times before taking our money. When a nurse conducted a formal assessment, it was immediately clear my mother needed memory care, not assisted living ...something any industry professional who had spent time with her should have known. We were steered into a placement that was never appropriate just so they could hold a large sum of cash and likely reinvest it and make money off our backs, all while we were in CRISIS. Only after I requested the refund did H****E reveal for the first time that processing takes "3-4 weeks, sometimes more" !!! WTF Every interaction following was dismissive and COLD. A follow-up went completely unanswered. I was forced to file a credit card dispute because I was accruing interest on $8,500 for TWO BILLING CYCLES while paying out of pocket for emergency in-home care. Clearwater's response? MY dispute will delay the refund even further! Blame shift much?! This is a pattern. Large deposits collected from desperate families. Material information deliberately withheld. Zero urgency when it's time to give the money back...sound familiar? If you are considering this facility, look up their inspection history at ccld.dss.ca.gov (license #496803860) and do not pay a deposit without getting every condition and timeline in writing first. We started small and increased the time and days needed. We had learned from an after-care service how to teach Mom to move with some independence. Some care giving services don't usually do that or necessarily do things the the way you want them. Madesa will tailor their service to your needs. Good communication is the key. Also, if that particular caregiver doesn't seem to be working out, they will work hard to find one that follows you instructions. I used their service for about 2 years until Mom needed to be in a care home. Also, any billing discrepancies were quickly assessed and corrected.
