I scheduled an appointment for a pedicure via Booksy. I had to cancel because I got Covid and I did not want to endanger the nail technician or customers. I called and explained this to the salon and also found a friend to take my exact booking slot, so the salon did not miss out on any money. I was charged a $16 cancellation fee. I normally would understand a cancellation fee, but in these extenuating circumstances I feel a refund is warranted. I explained the situation to a nail technician named Joyce over the phone, and they gave me Loann's number (the owner?) and said I should explain to her. I contacted Loann and never heard back. I also contacted the booking app, Booksy, and they said they are happy to provide the refund but they need the business, File + Style, to contact them to initiate it. Since Loann did not respond to my direct inquiry, I'm hoping she will respond to my help review. Please provide me a $16 refund and I'm happy to remove this review! Thanks! read more

Ok, so my boss gave me a gift certificate to this nail salon. I had already wrote a bad review, however I decided to give this salon a second chance. It turns out that this time was no better! The nail polish kept getting bubbles in it and the tech did a horrible job of painting my nails. The tech kept pouring some kind of clear fuild into the nail polish bottle. I came in for a fill and polish change. Waited half an hour despite having an appointment. Annoying yes but not the end of the world. They seemed short staffed that day. I typically go to a different salon that uses cones for acrylics instead of plastic tips. I let the stylist know I wanted 8 long and 2 short w/acrylic overlay. She started clipping my extensions and I asked her why. Miscommunications happen, she thought I wanted all overlay. While drilling off the polish she nicked my cuticles twice. Then she tried recreating the length but she didn't have cones and tried to free hand it. That didn't work so we landed on just overlay. Even that was sloppy. With several fingers the acrylic paste was fused to my skin and she had to use the drill to make some space. Definitely an uncomfortable process. The result was thick and sloppy. Shapes are all different. It's been a week and one nail is already lifting and I'll need to soak it off before it breaks my nail. Won't be back. read more

I went to LoAnn yesterday for the first time ever for a lash lift w tint. She was wonderful. Very detailed and professional with a down to earth vibe, soft touch, very sweet and ontop of everything; and she did an amazing job. I then went ahead and asked if she could hook my eyebrows up a bit as I really don't do much to them but my daughter will only go to her for her eyebrows so I said let's do it! One star for that ridiculous response. It's unclear why the owner found it necessary to include price points in her "clap back," but it's skirting a rude insinuation. If, ultimately, she is suggesting that the technician failed to offer or provide more comprehensive service because she assumed I couldn't afford it, then, well, lol. What I do know is that neither I nor my "ton of callous treatment"-needing feet nor any of my friends will give any additional business to this establishment. The work on my non-gel manicure was sloppy and rushed, and, as I described before, the result was a failure of the second and third coats of polish to reach the lateral center of my nail bed, so much so that the edge of each coat was cartoonishly visible. In short: it was a bad paint job with grossly underwhelming service. My little business is entirely inconsequential to their bottom line, so this review serves as no threat. Still, since the owner apparently flagged my review and is likely reading along, I hope she'll pause to study this part more closely: petulant, disrespectful response to legitimate dissatisfaction is the quickest way to alienate potential clientele. This is my second time booking an appointment with a particular nail tech at this place and getting someone else. when I arrived I guess the tech I booked was not available and another tech did my dip manicure. I don't like how they just sit you down with any available tech and don't even explain or say that the person you booked is busy or not available. They could at least let you know that the person you booked is busy and ask you would you like to try another tech or wait for the tech you booked. I don't like how they just sit you down and don't say anything and put you with any tech available. I get that they may be busy and don't want customers to wait but give the customer the option to wait or choose if they want to continue the appointment with another tech. They don't wear name tags so I had no clue that it wasn't the right person until I asked them there names, later in the appointment . when removing my dip it was file so low my nails are hurting and old dip was left on my nails, normally with dip they let them soak off, this place drill most of the old dip off causing the nail to be thin and hurt. I am very unhappy with how my dip manicure turned out. I also wanted a design but that didn't turn out right, so I had her remove it. even when the nail tech became available she still never took over the appointment, she started on someone else. The tech that did my nails was very nice and really tried to do her best. I didn't want to discredit her work or say anything bad in front of her face and I even gave her a tip for her time but the dip manicure was horrible, she definitely needs more practice. I feel like I basically paid my money for someone to basically practice on my nails. I came here twice, the first time for a full set gel mani with a design that turned out really well (first picture), and the second time for a normal mani pedi just to get some color on the nails. The manicure was not fully dried despite staying in front of the fan for more than 10 minutes, and one of my nails immediately smeared after leaving the shop (second pic). The fact that my nails were so close to the fan (upon instructions) gave my nails so many air bubbles that I'll probably have to take it all off and do them myself. The polish I chose was an Essie gel couture polish that I believe could've been dried with lights instead of the fan. ALSO the second time I went in was also to remove my first set. The employee who tended to my second manicure didn't remove all the residue from my hands, despite me gesturing to her. Some nail dust is left on my feet as well. I expected to be clean and ready to go by the time I left the store, but I left feeling like I take a shower instead. Very disappointed I spent so much money just to see them ruined within literally 15 minutes. The extra star I gave is only because the employees were friendly and the first manicure done by the owner was absolutely delightful. Tip from a Vietnamese speaker: the workers are definitely talking about you and it seems for the pettiest things. I've been here twice, and the first time was a good experience for a mani and pedi. For that I give five stars. I came back today with a friend and reduced the stars because of all the Vietnamese talking behind my back. I asked to sit closer to the window/sun (bc I was cold) and they insisted I sit in the far back to be closer to my friend who was getting a mani. She was so far away we weren't talking anyway. They said in Vietnamese how I was picky and to just ignore my request and put me in the back. Then the older lady with short hair (same repeat offender this whole visit) asked her colleague why I'm only getting a pedi not a mani. She mumbled more stuff but it was hard to hear. Then when I had to pay she complained I was paying with credit card and when I asked to break a $10 bill for tip, she told the girl not to give ones so I'd have to tip $5. The girl who did my pedi was just not feeling it today. She did an okay job, but hurt me a few times cutting skin and when she was done I didn't know. She just disappeared to sit and be on her phone. If there's an option of zero star, I would go for it. I really hate writing negative review, but this's literally my worst nail salon experience ever. Ok, first of all, I gotta admit, I went to this place before when they just opened, and they did a pretty good job. I even gave some suggestions to the owner and genuinely hoped that they would do better in the future. Ok so today, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, I decided to treat myself and get my nails done. I DID NOT expect this to go south.. I made an appointment at 12:15, got there on time, they started to remove my original acrylic nails. Because I have very sensitive skin, it was kinda difficult to remove the old acrylic coat. So Judy(the lady who did my nail) decided that I should let my hand soak into some sort of liquid to make it easier to be removed. And my nightmare had begun: Strike 1: she said it was gonna take 30-60 minutes so she was gonna go rest and eat. - while my right hand was already clean and ready to go. Sure I understand she might have worked for long time and needed to rest, but maybe don't take my appointment if you aren't available at that time. I had to request couple times for her to sit down and do my right hand. Strike 2: like I said, I have very sensitive skin, and we all know that the skin around our nails are very thin. When she was fixing the tips and smoothening my nails, it really HURT. I asked her to be more careful but then she BROKE my skin when using the spinning machine. TWICE. I don't think she was sorry for it coz the WHOLE TIME she was talking with other coworkers in Vietnamese- of coz I wouldn't understand a word but I'm pretty sure they were talking about me because they kept looking at me when talking. Strike 3: this whole time I was very stressed out- and I was not supposed to be. I sat there for 3 hours during which she picked up store calls, personal calls without even explaining. - yup, she literally just stopped doing my nails and went ahead to do whatever. Never have I ever felt like getting my nails done is a torture. When my nails were finally done, I can't wait to get out of this place. Trust me, I really DID NOT even want to pay. Because it's ridiculous that I am paying to put myself into a horrible position like this. And as you can see, the nails were not even properly done: one of the acrylic tips is too wide for my finger; there is marks of powder left on my fingers ... do you think the dry fingers look appealing? I really don't know what else to say. I do hope that same thing won't happen to anyone else who use their hard-earned money on something that was supposed to be an enjoyable experience but turned out to be a nightmare. read more

Update: Im not surpised that within minutes of this review, she's here with the rudeness again. Not surprised at all. Make your own decision but for me this place is a No go. There was nothing hard about my request to not sit in acetone for more than 20 minutes. There was nothing hard about not wanting to cut my nails without asking or to ask for emerald green or to see how we can rectify things with the shape. Its really disappointing that you tried to spin things but you cant change the truth. You were rude to me for no reason and you know it. Original: I really would love to leave a great review because the nail art is superb but the attitude you get from LoAnn the owner along with it, I was not expecting. To be a paying customer and get so much rudeness for simply not wanting to sit too long in acetone then to be schooled that acetone does not 'eat' nails when I know it does was completely the beginning of a down hill experience. I had called ahead, was told to come and stopped by the day before and was asked to make an appointment for the next day which I did, since I wanted a design and they were booked up and wouldnt have enough time on Monday. I showed up on time to my appointment and proceeded to get soaked while waiting. The shop was full and two people were waiting. I soaked and even took a nap for 20 min, at which point i asked for the acetone to be removed. I made it clear Im not saying to start working on me (no one was free anyway, Loann was working on two manis at once), just I dont want the acetone to eat through my nails. She did not like that I was insistent (but polite) and repeatedly told me its the filing that thins the nails out, I let her know well she would be filing them anyway so I'll just take the acetone off please. I asked a couple times if she would just like for me to leave, thats how unwelcome I felt through out the process. I tried to keep the peace the whole way to finish my appointment but at each and every turn Loann made sure to exercise her power and park on the attitude repeatedly with very rude comments. My pedicure was never mentioned, so I didnt get it done...there really was no one to do pedi anyway. She cut my nails without asking, when I stood to go get color as I had thought she instructed, she exasperatedly told me not yet. I was just telling you you will choose color. Asking me to dry my nails, attitude. Wash my nails, attitude. The design I had showed her had 4 colors. Mid way into my mani but before the color part (I had color only on the tips) she decided she can only do 3 colors, you guessed it with attitude. The original design was from the IG page, so when I could not find the emerald green and politely asked if they had it, I was told in a pretty short tone that the colors they have, are the colors they have. OK! sorry for asking. I said ok because at this point it was clear she had decided she was not going to like me period. I kept quiet and let her finish though she changed my shape from a coffin style to oval, without asking. There are so so many little rude things, I cannot point them out here. I kept my head phones on and tried to just focus away. When I was leaving, she asked me to enter my phone number for points and I asked again, why when you have made it clear I am not welcome here? She responded that she likes clear and direct communication...I guess if thats how excuse being a rude person sure. Also, I reminded her gently to always assume positive intent from her customers and that might help. Lets hope future customers get better treatment from this place. She did a great job on the nails, very talented lady... too bad her rudeness will definitely make me reconsider ever going here again. I will not participate in being treated poorly especially as a paying customer. I wouldve loved to leave a 25% tip, and to make this mine and my gal pals go to spot but chile!! This was my second visit and I really like it! When you show them the design you want, they have skill to execute it. They have variety of colors and materials for nail design. It is good to prepare some pics that you want. For example length and shape of your nail or color and design of the nail. One thing I would love to see some change made is reservation system. Although you make reservations, you have to wait for 20mins or so. I think people make reservations so that they can avoid that. Also, it is a bit pricey. But I mean when they do the nails for you it lasts about 2-4 weeks and it is pretty good so I don't really have any complaints about it. This is the best manicure I have found, and I have been searching for a loooooong time. Every time I'm there, I'm trying to figure out what they do differently that makes their manicures that much better. And I really think it is simply the extra care and attention they lend to every service. I have been getting gel manicures for a while, because they are the only manicures that last longer than a day. I am rough on my nails and wash my hands a lot. These manicures last THREE WEEKS. The place is super cute and airy, no stuffy-toxic-chemical scent here. Lots of natural light and well decorated. Loann and her staff are all stellar and care about what they do. Pros: they got me in on short notice for dip powder nails and I was able to add on a pedicure Cons: this was my second time getting dip powder nails (the first was in another State) and their process was much different and I didn't like the results as much. They used the UV light which it was my understanding wasn't necessary for dip powder. Some of my nails are dull and have lost the shine and a few are peeling. I was there for 2 hours, not because it took them that long, but there were several people that worked on my nails, and I sat for long periods waiting for the next nail technician. I got my eyebrows tattooed by LoAnn a few months ago. So this review is way overdue. My original brows were thinning and I had like no eyebrows. Ever since, I got mine done there, people have been complementing my eyebrows and said they look so natural so didn't even realized I got them tattooed. They thought I was drawing it in like I used to have to. I live in SF but I love going there because I know a great service and great work can be expected. First of all this place is absolutely terrible. I have been a loyal customer to file + style for the past year and just recently I received the worst possible service from the owner herself. I decided to go into the shop after my college graduation to celebrate with getting a brand new set of acrylic nails. I made an appointment at 3:45 for a pedicure and a full set. With that being said, I had a great design picked out but then change my mind last minute cause I wasn't sure how it was going to look. This (may I mind you) didn't effect the time or anything just yet. To begin with the lady doing my toes cut the hell out of my toe and I began to bleed. IT WAS SO PAINFUL...... I am still in pain till this day. All while that was going on the owner was taking off my acrylic nails where I was also in pain. I proceeded to tell her that it was really hurting and she still decided to clip them as hard as she can. I kept saying it hurt and she paid no attention what so ever. As I sat there in agony for 20+ minutes while she was taking it off and, while my toe was bleeding she finally had me sit at her regular table and began to start the design on my nails. First off the shape of my nails was absolutely terrible. She messed up the shape and thickness. When I turned my nails to the side they all flipped upwards like duck mouths. They looked absolutely horrendous. But I just let her keep going and had her proceed with the design.She ended up putting glitter on each of my nails and she finally got to the design part and it looked terrible. I politelytold her I didn't like it and if we could possibly start over that would be great. She was only five minutes into the design so I thought it would be harmless. BUT I GUESS NOT. She quickly got an attitude and began to argue with me. I told her I want to do the original design I came in with and she then Started to tell me how she was "so crunched with time" and that "she has more clients" But they were nowhere to be found? Finally it came to the time that she needed to take off the polish on the nails (a light glitter gel only on the tips) and she kept coming up with excuse after excuse. She kept saying she had an appointment and that it would take too much time. I kept telling her that I understand but I really wanted to get my nails done.....the right way at that. She then went on to takeoff the glitter and it took less than 3 minutes. In total it took her 8 minutes to fix my nails and it would only take 15 more for the new design......may I mind you it was only 4:45 and her next appointment was at 5:20. Sounds a bit off right? I felt so uncomfortable and I was very upset with the service I was receiving. I have been to file and style 20+ times and I've never received the type of treatment from her. I have also made plenty of appointments and she's been more than 30 to 45 minutes late on taking me in. YET I NEVER COMPLAINED. I have been so loyal to this establishment and it backfired. I have brought them so many of my personal friends who are now their regular clients and I get hit with this? I am not only so upset but I'm also really sad with the way that I was treated. I ended up walking away with half ass nails, a weird sticky topcoat, no polish, and smudged bloody toes. Even with all of that terrible service I still paid in full. A whole ass $73 FOR WHAT? I love this place! I was on a time crunch to meet a friend up after my gel mani. They're clean and very meticulous. The shop feels airy not smell chemicals like most salons and you can actually relax in there. I'm also surprised how clean my gel mani is considering how fast she was moving. I enjoyed my times in here. Definitely coming back with friends. read more
