One huge pro of Elegant Nail is that it had none of the usual chemical odors of most nail salons including more prominent ones in Rockridge - it's really well ventilated which is a huge pro. Actual service was not what I had hoped for. I asked for a simple nail trim and cleaning. No polish. I do this regularly. This was my first time at Elegant Nail. Usually, this entails cutting my nails, filing them well and cuticle cleaning. At Elegant, this was a cut and rough filing. They offered "manicure" which they said included cuticle and arm massage. I was open to paying more for cuticle but didn't need the massage nor polish of any sort. Unfortunately, I had a really negative waxing experience. I called early this morning to get in as soon as they opened because I was leaving for vacation soon and wanted to get a Brazilian wax. The waxer didn't use gloves. And would slather wax in multiple areas and reuse the same paper 3-4 times. This resulted in congealed wax that made slow painful rips. I told her to better just do the sides instead of a Brazilian, but she ignored me and kept going. I told her about some patchy spots and she just said "I know" and seemed annoyed at me. My whole situation is really red and aggravated, and there still patchy spots. To her credit after I communicated how painful it was she really locked in to ensure she was pulling the skin correctly to ensure clean rips. I eventually just told her thank you and sat up because it just wasn't a good situation. I'm disappointed because I grew up coming to this spot, but I don't think I'll be back. read more

I had a horrible experience. The woman who did my pedicure used a tool that I've seen used for facial extractions to push back my cuticles on my toenails, which was quite painful. Then she used a very sharp instrument and dug out skin between the edge of my big toenails and the toe. It was so painful and I told her so, but she kept at it. Now both big toes are swollen, red, and looking infected. I'm going to have to seek medical attention if this worsens. read more

I had called 5 salons, some were closed and others were just too busy but Elegant Nails said I could come in and they'd take care of me and they did just that. This place is a nice little place to relax and enjoy a pedicure. I just left actually and I usually go on my lunch break. They only charged me $25.00 which is reasonable for the french tips I requested for my toes. The women are sweet and give an exceptional massage. I really like that today, my nail technician spent time shaping and cleaning up the cuticle. I would give another star or two if they offered a beverage and revamped the place. It's asking for a little update. A new coat of paint and a garbage truck to haul off the faux flowers and they'll be in the right track to 4-5 stardom in no time. read more

Hmmm. Why's it so hard to find a good nail place?! This place is among the most lousy I've visited recently. Woman hurt my feet cutting my cuticles, didn't bother to help me with my shoes. It wasn't that busy on an early Sat. evening. No bother. What really got me was the rudeness. I open my wallet to pay by credit card & she ogles into my wallet, "you got no cash?" No, not enough... I'll never understand these nail places quibbling with credit card users. I get the fees, but either accept credit cards & raise the prices accordingly or don't accept them at all. Don't argue with the customer about the choice of payment that the merchant accepts. Then I ask for change for a $5 (I was going to give the pedicurist a $2-3 pity tip, I wasn't impressed with the pedicure). She shoves the $5 bill to the pedicurist. I'm like "no, I need ones." Is it normal these days to give in excess of a 20% tip? The ped was $22. Woman comes back with a single dollar bill for me. Really. SMH. Won't ever be back. read more
