First of all this place is absolutely terrible. I have been a loyal customer to file + style for the past year and just recently I received the worst possible service from the owner herself. I decided to go into the shop after my college graduation to celebrate with getting a brand new set of acrylic nails. I made an appointment at 3:45 for a pedicure and a full set. With that being said, I had a great design picked out but then change my mind last minute cause I wasn't sure how it was going to look. This (may I mind you) didn't effect the time or anything just yet. To begin with the lady doing my toes cut the hell out of my toe and I began to bleed. IT WAS SO PAINFUL...... I am still in pain till this day. All while that was going on the owner was taking off my acrylic nails where I was also in pain. I proceeded to tell her that it was really hurting and she still decided to clip them as hard as she can. I kept saying it hurt and she paid no attention what so ever. As I sat there in agony for 20+ minutes while she was taking it off and, while my toe was bleeding she finally had me sit at her regular table and began to start the design on my nails. First off the shape of my nails was absolutely terrible. She messed up the shape and thickness. When I turned my nails to the side they all flipped upwards like duck mouths. They looked absolutely horrendous. But I just let her keep going and had her proceed with the design.She ended up putting glitter on each of my nails and she finally got to the design part and it looked terrible. I politelytold her I didn't like it and if we could possibly start over that would be great. She was only five minutes into the design so I thought it would be harmless. BUT I GUESS NOT. She quickly got an attitude and began to argue with me. I told her I want to do the original design I came in with and she then Started to tell me how she was "so crunched with time" and that "she has more clients" But they were nowhere to be found? Finally it came to the time that she needed to take off the polish on the nails (a light glitter gel only on the tips) and she kept coming up with excuse after excuse. She kept saying she had an appointment and that it would take too much time. I kept telling her that I understand but I really wanted to get my nails done.....the right way at that. She then went on to takeoff the glitter and it took less than 3 minutes. In total it took her 8 minutes to fix my nails and it would only take 15 more for the new design......may I mind you it was only 4:45 and her next appointment was at 5:20. Sounds a bit off right? I felt so uncomfortable and I was very upset with the service I was receiving. I have been to file and style 20+ times and I've never received the type of treatment from her. I have also made plenty of appointments and she's been more than 30 to 45 minutes late on taking me in. YET I NEVER COMPLAINED. I have been so loyal to this establishment and it backfired. I have brought them so many of my personal friends who are now their regular clients and I get hit with this? I am not only so upset but I'm also really sad with the way that I was treated. I ended up walking away with half ass nails, a weird sticky topcoat, no polish, and smudged bloody toes. Even with all of that terrible service I still paid in full. A whole ass $73 FOR WHAT? Don't ever go to this place y'all it's a waste of time and money. The biggest scam in Oakland. PERIOD. This is shameful. You should never treat your loyal customers like this. I love this place! I was on a time crunch to meet a friend up after my gel mani. They're clean and very meticulous. The shop feels airy not smell chemicals like most salons and you can actually relax in there. I'm also surprised how clean my gel mani is considering how fast she was moving. To start with, they take reservations, which is a huge plus for me. I made reservations for 5 for my friend's bridal nail party. This salon was extremely accommodating and we had a great experience. The major PROS - - They allowed us to have champagne. We spilled some while opening the bottle and they were really sweet about it. - 2 of the girls came an hour late and they accommodated without any issues. - Everyone was extremely happy with their nail job - They didn't rush us and allowed us to sit and hang out until the other girls were done - The place is really clean and beautiful. I called about an hour & a half to 5 & asked if they could squeeze me in for a gel manicure, & was pleased they could. I got there about 20 minutes early & every station was full so they asked me to have a seat. At exactly 5, they brought me over to a station & began. I wanted something special for Halloween, which I could tell made my tech a little nervous. When it came to the actual design part, she asked another tech to do it for her, & she did an amazing job!! After that was done, my first tech massaged warm lotion into my hands & arms & I was on my way. I was sad I was never offered the mimosa that the sign outside promised, but I like the way my nails turned out anyway. The price for a gel manicure was $30, but I guess because I wanted a design, it turned into $45. Not too sure how they came up with this price, as I got 6 fingers painted. Fantastic service & attention to detail! I made a same-day appointment, and was helped immediately upon arrival. My technician was Nancy, and she didn't take any short cuts- she was precise and gentle. I wasn't sure what color I wanted and changed my mind before she put the gel polish on, so she did two colors and let me compare them to see which I liked best. A small gesture but it was really helpful and she didn't make me feel like I was an irritant. I paid $30 for a gel manicure and any style goes up to $45+ (they have incredible talent. I have come here many times and recommended many others. Normally I have a pretty good experience, but today was the worst! I made an appointment for 5:15pm for a gel manicure and pedicure. I was questioned multiple times if I had an appointment, which I did.. when I was finally seated at 5:35pm, I noticed the woman doing my manicure was very rough and seemed rushed. She cut my cuticles on 4 of my fingers! I understand an accidental nic, but 4 times was too many. It was very clear to me she was uninterested in helping me and more interested in going home for the day, even though it was only 6:10pm. I left without having them paint my toes or gel on my fingers out of fear that I'd hate it and have to pay more for removal elsewhere. I took my mom here for pedis as an early Mother's Day gift. They accepted us as a walk-in which was great! The salon is very aesthetically pleasing and everyone was so nice. It was a bit hard to get the ball rolling because the two women that were doing our nails knew no English. We could only communicate with them through another nail tech who acted as a translator when she could, but she was too busy to be on call. All in all, no stars taken off for that. I loved my nails, but my mom not so much - that's where the stars are deducted. Her nail tech cut her cuticles down so far that her feet were bleeding. My mom tried expressing her discomfort but the lady just kept snipping (I'm guessing because of the language barrier) until my mom had to snatch her foot away. Then the lady would say sorry and do it again and again. My mom's toes were still bleeding by the time we were back in the car. That could've led to infections. Unacceptable. Horrible customer service!!! So now LoAnn wants her clients to book online with Booksy. Great, it's easy and simple. I just don't really like that you have to put a card on file in order to book any appointments but whatever. You get to pick the services you want as well as the technician you prefer and date and time. The only thing is they don't always honor the appointments booked via Booksy. Here I am at the shop waiting for LoAnn for my 10AM appointment only to find out she's not coming and she rescheduled my appointment with someone else without asking or notifying me. After going back and forth with her over her employee's phone she still doesn't believe that actions were poor because according to her " they all do the same work." Extremely unprofessional, she has her own late/ rescheduling policy that has fees associated with it but it ok for her to make unsolicited changes for her clients. She then comes in after someone else completed my nails to service someone else... oh and to apologize. Still doesn't excuse the customer service or lack there of in this matter. read more

Making appt through Booksy has made it an easy process and if you follow their IG account LoAnn is very responsive with questions. The shop is clean and follows safety protocols. When it comes to my nails I really appreciate that she gives recommendations that works for me. I work in the hospital and constantly washing my hands. I usually get gel, but switched over to dip to help keep my nails strong and no chipping color. The best is the touchless payment option of paying through Venmo. Super convenient! read more

I had initially made my appointment with file + style due to them having clear hard gel, something my usual salon doesn't have unfortunately. Big Mistake! The salon is very chaotic and the owner is clearly overwhelmed, maybe understaffed or just staff that's not competent enough to not have to be micromanaged. Regardless, I was seated to have an acrylic full set removed, new hard gel set, and pedicure; I arrived at a little before 12:15 didn't leave until 3:30. Ridiculous! This was mostly due to my nail tech, the owner I'm assuming, working on multiple customers at the same time instead of just focusing on one. The way they remove the acrylic is terrible. She placed acetone in a bowl, put that in a large tuber ware with steaming water, had me dip my fingers in and covered it with a towel. Not only was it extremely hot but the smell was so overwhelming on of her assisting nail techs had to put on a face mask and offered one to me as well. In the process of removing the acrylic my finger was cut with the file, why, because as previously stated she was multitasking too many things and unable to focus. My pedicure was subpar to say the least. I had to have the nail tech reshape the crooked work she had just done. The icing on the cake and the reason as to why I decided to post this review is my nails are lifting from the tips, not even three days later. You would think $93 worth of service would be impeccable, or even half way decent. I asked for the design I wanted and they said they were unable to help me since the woman who usually did those designs didn't work today.
