    Lasagna dinner (meatball not pictured)
    Leslie W.

This is Joe's favorite place for pizza. We went for an early dinner. It was pretty empty, when we arrived. (A very large group arrived while we were eating, so the quiet didn't last too long!) This is an old-school American Italian restaurant. The decor is dated. I giggled at the Chianti bottles that are used as decoration. There is a mix of 80s style paint/artwork and wood paneling. Tables have flannel backed vinyl tablecloths. (Reminded me of my grandmother's kitchen.) We both opted for the dinner. Had I known the size of the dinner, I would have suggested that we share one, instead. I got the lasagna and a meatball. Joe got ravioli and a meatball. I thought the menu said soup or salad. No, you get both with the dinner. The small bowl of minestrone soup was tasty. The salad was enormous, but good. The waiter brought us a small basket of garlic bread, a half of a loaf for each of us. When he brought the entrees, each entree covered a plate. A separate plate was used for the meatball. Then, he brought a basket of bread! I thought it was a joke. Because I finished the soup and salad, I only took a few bites of the lasagna and the meatball. Most of those, I took home. I loved the lasagna because it had lots of ricotta, which I love. The sauce is herby, not sweet. The meatball had flavor and wasn't too tough, like some places. Our waiter paid attention. He filled our glasses before they were empty. He also brought out boxes and packed our food to go, since there was no way we could finish it there. Prices are cheap, considering the amount of food you receive. I joked that Gordon Ramsey would have had a fit over the portion sizes. I'm glad he wasn't there. I am so ready to go back the next time I'm down for a visit!

This Place is Going Downhill from a 25 Year Customer. We have been coming to this location for a quarter of a century. I'm not sure what's going on, but just look at the photos. The pizza dough is flat and doughy. And this is not the first time as of late. Having made hundreds of pizzas myself, I'm pretty sure the dough was simply under or over proofed. Remaking the pizza would likely had the same result. When I brought this up when paying the bill, the only thing offered was to make a complaint. So I left my contact info for the manger to call me back. Needless to say, nobody ever called days later. We have been making the trip from Julian the last few years, but now we will just go to Venice Pizza, which has never made a bad pizza in the 35 years we have been going there. And it's a slightly shorter drive.

Date of most recent visit: November 4, 2023 Review #1450! The family had come here a couple of weeks prior to celebrate my brother's birthday; while we shared the Fit For a King pizza (lots of cheese on that one), I resolved to come back here after donating blood to try one of their sandwiches. I went with the Super Torpedo ($12.65) - this was a pretty good sized sandwich stuffed with ham, capicolla, cotto, hard salami, and provolone cheese on a toasted Italian roll. As there's no sides with the sandwich, I also went with a side of Sicilian olives ($5.15). My food turned out good - I even brought half the sandwich home to share with my father - but it felt like there was something missing that I couldn't quite put my finger on. This Filippi's is spacious with a large parking lot. Service is quick enough. I suppose for Italian food, this location is what it is; given how each Filippi's location their own menus, though, perhaps I should stick to the Scripps Ranch location (closer to me... and it has prime rib!).

Came here with my family, and the service was honestly amazing. The ambiance as well. Really enjoy coming here to eat. The food itself was ok, nothing really to brag about. But honestly when you're eating here with family, the food isn't the most important thing. You come here for the vibe and staff. Would come again!

Was in the area for some training and my co-worker wanted Italian food. Someone we bumped into recommended this place. It wasn't too far from our hotel. They had their own parking lot, that was nice. We entered and were greeted right away and got seated immediately. They decorated the dining room as Italian as they can. The overall building and atmosphere was a bit dated, but clean. Our server seemed rushed and was short when attending to us. The room was not that full since we arrived around 545pm. She wasn't rude, just short. Our drinks and side dishes like the cheesy bread, soup and salad arrived quickly. Followed by our main dish with more bread. The minestrone soup was nice to start. I wanted another cup. The salad with Italian dressing was pretty decent size and I had an ample amount of dressing just how I like my salad. I had the chicken Parmesan. Big portion. Love the right amount of cheese melted on top of the chicken. It was okay. Nothing stood out. My co-worker had the same side dishes and ordered shrimp Alfredo. When her entree arrived, we were shocked on the amount of pasta. I mean, the plate could have feed a family of 4. So much pasta, after she was done, her plate looked like it was never touched. Overall, our experience was ok.

The service was horrible. The staff was rude and very dismissive. I got the spaghetti and it was pretty mid for the price.

I was wondering if you guys still had any to go order specials?

I don't think they have to go specials. All their menu is on line.

The $30 price tag is average for a 18" pizza. I also ordered the fried zucchini for $6.99 that was solid. It was fried well and tasted good. The food is solid. The 2 minor complaints I have is the bacon chicken ranch pizza didn't have too much bacon on it and they charge $0.95 for ranch. I like getting ranch with my pizza, and it'd be nice to get 1-2 ranches for free when ordering the largest pizza. This isn't a sit down place where you're served, so I don't expect the service to be top notch. However, after finishing the pizza, I took the pie box with all the trash in it to the trashcan and realized that it doesn't really fit well since the box is so big. I took the box to an employee and asked if they have a bigger trash can and he just said "no" and "sorry". He didn't take the trash or tell me to leave it anywhere so I took it myself to the trashcan and bent the box in half so it'd fit in the trashcan. I will note last time I was here they did take the box with the trash, so it's not always like that. Overall not a bad place if you want to get quick pizza without breaking the bank.

After purchasing barongs and Filipinianas, my wife, brother, SIL, and I continued our double date…read moreday by grubbing at The Shop. Prior to our outing, I sent my family several recommendations for lunch with two burger joints in Escondido and one restaurant in our neck of the woods. The Shop was the last rec and I knew my brother and SIL would probably pick this spot because it serves cocktails and I was right. We enjoyed the food, my family enjoyed their adult beverages, the ambience was really good, and I thought the customer service had some opportunities. The Shop is located in Rancho Bernardo, specifically on Bernardo Center Drive. The restaurant can be found within the Rancho Bernardo Town Center shopping center amongst a group of eateries. Vons is the anchor store and some of the other tenants are the following: The Kebab Shop, China Fun, San Diego Gymnastics & Parkour, BHC Chicken, SDNY'S, and Casa Lahori. There is plenty of free parking at this shopping center. The Shop has plenty of outdoor umbrella covered seating and a spacious indoor eating area. Inside, there is bartop seating overlooking an assortment of adult beverages, there is a good amount of wooden tables and wooden chairs, and there is a long wooden fixed bench with a white brick wall where you'll lean your back onto as you dine. The Shop has decorative light fixtures, a character and boom box decal on one wall, framed black and white pics on another wall, and there's a television above the bar where we watched World Cup soccer. Our waitress and the staff we interacted with were friendly, but I wished our waitress checked up on us more often. I asked one of the staff, a smaller young lady, for a refill of my Shirley Temple and for a box for our leftovers, but it took awhile for those requests to be taken care of. One of my gym friends asked me whether I had dined at The Shop and after telling him I had not, he recommended this restaurant and mentioned that it served memorable cocktails. My brother and SIL are bourbon aficionados, so I knew they'd select The Shop to eat lunch at after they checked out the Yelp business link I had sent them as one of the three recommendations. I don't indulge in adult beverages, but my family ordered Old Fashioned drinks and they appeared to enjoy their drinks. Prior to grubbing at The Shop, I couldn't tell what type of cuisine it serves, but I now know that they specialize in Italian cuisine. They serve starters, cheese + charcuterie, salads, sandwiches, housemade pastas, signature pizzas, desserts, and sides. We decided to share appetizers, so we ordered two orders of freshly baked garlic rolls and my family ordered the spinach artichoke dip. We got to The Shop around 12:30pm and a few minutes after we ordered our starters, we were told the spinach artichoke dip was sold out. We were bummed that after opening at 11am, they were sold out of that dip. The garlic rolls were made with garlic, herb butter, and parmesan. They were fresh and tasty. Instead of the artichoke dip, my brother ordered the burrata bruschetta. That bruschetta was fresh tasting and yummy. For our entree, the wife and I ordered one of their deep dish pizzas, which is considered one of their specialties. We selected the Old Town, which comes with pepperoni, mushrooms, white onions, green bell peppers, fresh garlic, and black olives. The Shop needs to be visited for its deep dish pizzas. We ordered the 9" small and it was big enough to share. It was cheesy, fresh, had an abundant amount of ingredients, and I thought the crust was delicious. That pizza was appetizing and filling. My family and I had a wonderful date day outing experiencing The Shop for the first time. I definitely want to try out their pastas, sandwiches, and their meat pizza. Hopefully they won't run out of their spinach artichoke dip the next time we visit.
