It's been a few years since I've been to a Filippi's. My usual location was in Little Italy. I remember it having amazing food and I would crave going there. I finally got the chance to visit one of their locations again, this time in Poway. I would typically go for their pizza but I decided to try something different so I ordered their Filippi's Family Combo which came with spaghetti, lasagna, and ravioli. The star of the show in this dish was definitely the lasagna. I couldn't get enough of it! The spaghetti was pretty basic (as spaghetti is) but what disappointed me was the lack of flavor in their sauce. I felt like it was missing something (maybe more salt?). The combo also came with a minestrone soup and salad with choice of dressing. I wasn't a huge fan of the minestrone so I didn't really touch that. If I were to come back, and was craving something other than pizza, I would simply order their lasagna. My sister ordered one of their pizzas (I forget which toppings). I had a bite of it and that's when I was reminded why I liked Filippi's so much in the past. Cheese for days!! We called ahead to order pizza from here when heading to a friends house and we were to bring dinner. We got a small cheese/pepperoni pizza for the kidless and a large fit for a king pizza (pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and black olives. They told us it would be about 25 minutes and the pizzas were ready by the time we arrived. Pizza was hot, check out was fast. It was a little on the spendy side $55 for 2 pizzas but I don't usually order 2 pizzas at once. When we got to our friend's house everyone was suprised how much cheese was on the pizza. Like SO MUCH cheese. I fall into the category of you can't have to much cheese but if you are not a super fan of cheese beware! Pizza was good. Let a lot to be desired. So a few positives, great parking, decent service and clean. However, the food was just not good. Our pizza was covered in cheese (like mounds), pepperoni was under the cheese, bottom was burnt and inside raw. The prices are also ridiculous, $7 for a small side salad, $3.25 for large dressing... the beer was the best bang for your buck. Overall, we won't be returning but it fed us all, and was clean. So so sad this place has gone downhill in the past year. I think we all know why. The pizza now has such little cheese on it. They used to be KNOWN for having lots of cheese on their pizzas. And the last pizza we ordered, had half the pepperonis on it that they usually put. SHRINKFLATION at its finest. Charge you more... give you less. This Filippi's used to be among the finest restaurants for pizzas in San Diego. Now it is like the other Filippi's that you avoid going to because you feel ripped off every time you go there. Is there "better" or more authentic Italian food in San Diego? Of course. But Filippi's delivers its own brand of a retro red-checkered tablecloth Italian-American experience that's getting harder to duplicate as the decades pass. The three star average rating makes no sense to me. They're open until 9:00 on Tuesday, when many others close at 8:00. This is much appreciated on nights when we don't get our act together until after 7:00 p.m. It's easy for me to get to, with a large private parking lot. I imagine that kids sports pizza parties are no problem here. We were greeted and seated immediately. Service was superb overall. Lighting is more on the "practical" side than romantic candles in the little red vase. It's nice to still be able to order an affordable carafe of Chianti. We started with a "small" antipasto salad ($10.50) which was quite hearty, with two kinds of olives, plenty of cheese, pepperoncini, a bit of salami, pepperoni and ham, topped with two slices of capicola. We were also served warm Italian bread an butter. (Try to resist filling up on this!) Our second course may have literally been the best Eggplant Parmesan sandwich ($11.40) I've ever had, and I've been on a quest for decades. The Italian roll was warm and crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The eggplant slices were piled in about two layers in a few places. Plenty of melty mozzarella and good sauce. The tip would be to ask for this to be sliced into 1/3 sections, because with the salad, this meal could all be shared by 3 people, which may be exactly what I'll do on my next visit! read more

This is the only Filippi's Restaurant in the chain that I frequent. Service is always amazing. The food is always fantastic. This is the only store that serves prime rib. The Best in San Diego. The cocktails are extremely good. The prices are very fair for not only the great quality but also the quantity of the dishes. Filippi's is everything you'd expect from a casual Italian restaurant. Their "super sized" Antipasto salad is literally shaped like mount Vesuvius. They piled on a ton of ham, pepperoni, and other sliced Italian meats. They also included some very spicy Pepperoncini and olives. It also comes with their signature red Italian dressing. It's good for five people at least. The rest of their food is in line with other Filippi's in this regional chain. They have really good meat sauce at this particular location. - Stereotypical decor consisting of checkered tablecloths and Chianti bottles handing from their rafters. - Very generous with the free bread. - Judging by older pictures it looks like they've cheapened out on the quality toppings on their Antipasto salad. - Good Lasagna. - Good service. read more

Came here after they opened on a Saturday. Not crowded at all, so maybe this location is more popular for dinner. Wasn't really feeling this experience. First, we got there when they first opened, which I regretted remembering the minestrone soup wouldn't be as good. The later in the day, the better the soup is because it gets to sit. This time, the soup wasn't even ready, which I wish they told me at first because I wouldn't have ordered the dinner. The salad dressing was super watery and tasted weirdly like Catalina dressing. Wasn't feeling the marinara sauce on the so-called garlic bread. Everything on the combo plate was cold to semi warm. Especially the ravioli. They were going to bring the check thinking I forgot about the soup. The soup was not even close to done. It had very hard veggie pieces and no flavor. I wish they would have just let me know it wasn't up to par. I feel bad comparing this location to others. But it lacks the authenticity of Little Italy and mom and pop feel of Imperial Beach. Filippi's was an interesting restaurant. Seemed like a mix of wanting to be authentic and a fast casual Italian restaurant. We started the meal with garlic cheese bread. A perfectly cooked piece of garlic bread loaded with cheese along with a hot marinara for dipping. Safe to say we finished the whole thing. We the had a pizza. As you can see from the picture, there was a lot of cheese on the pizza. For me, this was awesome. Coming from Chicago this was the closest amount of cheese we had seen compared to a deep dish pizza. I love the food here! The only thing that I feel the need to say is when ordering takeout with garlic bread, double check your bag before you leave. My last 5 DoorDash orders were: First 3 orders: they completely forgot to include the ordered garlic bread 4th order: again they forgot but I called the restaurant & they personally delivered the garlic bread (excellent customer service! Thank you!) 5th order: only half of the garlic bread was packed. Went back in to get the full order. We'll see what happens in my next order. Recently came to this location and the location is bigger, great service. Ordered spaghetti and a pepperoni pizza full with flavor. The bread had so much flavor compared to other pizzas I've had. I have never left a review anywhere, but this was the worst food I've ever had. I did a pickup order and first off, my salad was missing. I asked for meat sauce with my pasta and it came with marinara (no meat). Our chicken parm sandwich was missing the chicken. The bread was so stale that it was impossible to bite into. I will never eat here again and truly do not recommend. An absolute waste of $50. read more

We have been dining in the Poway Filippi's restaurant for over 25 years. We were very disappointed the last two times we have been there. The pizza had half of the cheese and half of the toppings. The pizza dough is not the same as well. The salad did not have the large olives or peperoncino's. We had to ask for them and was brought store bought tiny olives and smaller peperoncino's. There is a huge turn over in the staff, they are okay, but they are not the same. The cost of the food is so much more and it feels like we are getting less quality for the price. I know times are hard for everyone, but this could mean we will not return as often. I hope this reaches the owner of the Poway restaurant and it has a strong enough impact to make the necessary changes to return to their great quality of food and the wonderful staff. read more
