Terrible experience with this company! I wish I had read reviews before purchasing an expensive jacket for my husband. We might not have done so as I now have found out that others have had similiar experiences to ours. The jacket was really very good looking and we didn't mind spending almost $500 for a quality jacket that would last a "lifetime" as Filson markets. My husband wore the jacket only a few times. It turned yellow. We called customer service. They told us to use Filson wax. We followed directions. Jacket looked worse. We sent it to the repair department. After waiting weeks we got it returned with a note that basically said "not our problem". I repeatedly called the company to discuss a solution. Couldn't get a return call. Hailey who is in charge of repairs sent me emails. Filson is not standing behind their product. No solution provided. BEWARE! read more

Great shopping experience - found seven Christmas gifts and checking out, the staff was incredibly helpful and pleasant to work with. I was mentioning that what I was purchasing were all gifts. They offered to mail my shopping back and when I asked for help with boxes and gift wrap, they were over the top helpful. I was so incredibly happy and surprised to get these gifts in a few short days wrapped and boxed along with a personal hand written note from Emma who helped me in store. cool store in Union Square offering up a variety of outdoor clothing and gear for men and women. the store is neatly organized within a unique reclaimed wood space decorated with a variety of hanging chainsaws to the carved wood sculpts. feels like an immaculate log cabin or barn filled with finely crafted jackets, flannel shirts and more. the outdoor jackets have that rugged quality for hunters and people who spend a lot of time outside...fine quality winter wear but the jackets are pricy. staff is kinda just there, chatting amongst themselves. overall, if you are looking for outdoor wear, stop at Filson's. read more

I have experience with Filson products back to 1965 from my early expedition/research days in Alaska. Their products are work tough and worth every penny I have paid for them. The heavy duty wool pants I bought in 1995 are still good, so I passed them on to a relative who is wearing them to this day. That is Filson in a nutshell! I own all manner of their field coats, pants, shirts, bags, suitcases, and accessory gear; so, I truly know their products and use them in the field for scientific work and research studies in all kinds of weather, in all kinds of environments, and for general wear too. These days I get everything from the Broadway, NYC, store. The selection of goods there is great and the staff is of real help in making choices. Most of the staff are outdoor enthusiasts with experience with pretty much all of the products they sell. This is a special characteristic of the Broadway store that makes me comfortable there. For outstanding field clothing and accessories, there is really no equal in terms of quality and service. This is a great American store going back to the 1800's and I know why Filson is still around. Not all products are made in America, but a great many of their famed items are. I like that too. I may take to writing about some of the products, but wanted to share my view of Filson in general and the Broadway store in particular. Sorry to say that the women's section of the company has taken a hit because of Covid I suppose. Hoping that will come back. Product wise, I bought my daughter a heavy winter coat. It was attractive, versatile, and by way of quality and details the very best of its type. Products like that just cannot be had elsewhere. Not to say there aren't nice coats for women, but the coat in question is exceptional and was sold at a fair price! In conclusion, Great Company and Great Store with outstanding sales men and women. One of the most beautiful stores in the city. Two year build out with wood from an old barn. You feel like you are in an experience, not just in a retail shop. This is the first menswear-focused store I've experienced that gave me the Anthropologie pangs. What I'm referring to, specifically, is the euphoria one feels upon entering a shop and being immediately transported to a place you want to inhabit foreverrrrrr. Like a spell, you forget your current life and idealize the enthralling and beautifully crafted surroundings. The fantasy-land of the Filson store is outfitted with the brand's quality crafted goods (obviously) but also helpful staff (who, aesthetically speaking, are perfect inhabitants of this fantasy-land), wood-paneled walls and wooden beams, leather saddles, taxidermy.... I'm relieved there wasn't a campfire as I may have bundled myself up in some of their deep hued flannel along with some shearling and gotten far too cozy. It's honestly a beautiful store with beautiful goods. My husband purchased a winter hat, and like two cowboys at a trading post, my husband and the cashier spoke of how said hat would age well and last a lifetime. The cost of the goods (quite high) reflects their caliber and value. If you're looking to invest in some new winter gear, have a padded budget for an upcoming camping trip and need new supplies or just want to go and enjoy the world within the shop, I recommend Filson! read more

This place is heaven. I didn't end up buying anything, so I figured I'd leave a good review to assuage my guilt. The people working were incredibly helpful, and dug through their inventory so I could try on a coat (one I mean to purchase when it gets a little closer to wintertime) and they brought me the size I requested, and one size down, since the aforementioned coat tends to run rather large. I'm glad they did, because now I won't make the mistake of ordering the coat a size to big. The Filson website itself suggested I order a size even bigger than the one I initially tried, which would have left me absolutely swimming in excess coat. Anywho, I'm definitely going to come back to purchase the coat when I finally do, this store is great. I found myself exclaiming "this is like Willy Wonka's factory", and for people who love the Filson brand, it truly is. P.S. the vintage Levi's they sell in store are not only wicked cool, but worthy of a visit all on their own. read more
