    Nashville fish sandwich
    Emily L.

My boyfriend and I were visiting Delaware and actually hit a rainy day so we were craving some comforting takeout. We happened to come across this place by accident, but we are so happy we found it. The food was absolutely delicious and not to mention, the couple working there were so sweet and helped us by recommending what to get! Our favorite was definitely the Nashville fried fish sandwich. The fish was so tender and crispy with a delicious sauce and great balance of bread to filling ratio. We also loved the side of fries that were crispy and salted perfectly as well as the crab soup appetizer! Would definitely recommend everyone to stop by if they can when in the area!

Facebook post of the special we tried - yummy!!

I wanted to enjoy this so much more. We live full-time near Bethany Beach, but just got around to…read moretrying Off the Hook for the first time last night. The highlights (and lowlights): The service was awful: We arrived at 5:17 and were seated at 5:22. Drinks took 26 minutes to deliver and the order was wrong. My FiL clearly asked for a Pinot Grigio, but a Sangria was delivered. Cody, the server*, politely repeated that he ordered the Sangria, but that did not happen (my FiL drinks only dry wines). We waited to toast my in-laws anniversary, but had to wait another 7-8 minutes for the correct glass of wine to be delivered. There is no attention to detail in the dining room. The staff are on island time. The first appetizer arrived at 6:08--46 minutes after we sat down! At 6:20, I bussed our table. (After dinner, I bussed our table a second time). Even trying to pay the check Cody was MIA. He came by the table perhaps six times from 5:22-6:45. *There seems to be a lot of summer hires here--folks that want to hang out at the beach, but need to work to pay the rent. The training has be to incredibly minimal. I would guess no family meal, no 5-minute daily wine pairing rundown...basically no front of the house training. When the customer has to stack dirty plates and get a busboy's attention to grab them TWICE...not good, especially for the prices at Off the Hook. The food was quite hit or miss. The good: the crab bisque was excellent...really amazing! The scallop appetizer was also delicious with a base of grits and bacon underneath. However... The bad: we wanted to share the scallop appetizer and asked Cody how many scallops came with that. He said "three". The app was delivered with TWO scallops (Yes...TWO scallops for $19). They were not huge scallops...so 16/20 count. Wholesale, $18 a pound, less than a dollar each. To charge $19 for an appetizer with TWO scallops? Wow! The dish cost perhaps $3.25. A bottle of wine that retails for $15 is $30 in a restaurant. I get it, but marking up TWO scallops with some grits to $19 is insane. I asked the manager about the missing scallop. He advised that the entree came with three scallops--the app two. The entree was $39!! $39 for three scallops! If these were U/8 or U/15 scallops, I maybe could see it, but two 16/20 scallops for $19 and three for $39 is nuts. The pappardelle (appetizer portion) was completely flavorless. It was not cooked with any salt and pepper. It tasted like buttered noodles you find on a kid's menu. Adding salt and pepper (at the table) did little to fix it. My wife's pappardelle entree was equally bland. She tried mine; I tried hers. She looked right at me and said "There is no seasoning on this!". My thought exactly. My FiL had the salmon. He reported that it was tasty. While it was cooked well, $35 for an approximately 5 oz portion is again nuts. As a local, I really wanted to enjoy this meal. It was an anniversary dinner for my in-laws. $260 for four people with bad service and hit-or-miss food and the portions described is not good. I'm not a tourist. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the FLIES. This is an INSIDE, white tablecloth dining establishment with $30-40 entrees, NOT a beachfront bar. 3-4 houseflies, accompanied by a gnat, joined us for dinner. Crazy. Bethany Beach, Delaware has limited options for dining and cars lined up 100 deep on the main road into town. This can be the only explanation for Off the Hook being so busy, so often. Tourists from NYC and Philadelphia don't bat an eye at paying $39 for three scallops. I don't know what other explanation makes sense.

Review for Heidaway - Bethany Beach, DE…read more It was the weekend after Memorial Day 2025--when the beach is still buzzing, but you can actually find parking and order a drink without elbowing someone in a straw hat. We rolled into Bethany Beach to kick off our summer, minus the chaos, and Heidaway was the first place that pulled us in with a wink and a steel drum beat. Right on the edge of the boardwalk, this place has big tropical energy. Think Key West meets Delaware--palm fronds, sea breeze, and the gentle background hum of fun. The outdoor seating is shaded but still breezy, like Mother Nature knows you want SPF without sweating through your shirt. And the music? Bright, beachy, and setting the scene for "yes, we are on vacation, thank you." Service? On point. From the friendly hostess to our magical waitress who somehow knew when we needed napkins, another round, or just a smile--everyone brought their A-game. No tourist trap vibes here. Just good, solid hospitality. Cocktails: We kicked off with a Moscow Mule, chilled in a classic copper mug and strong enough to make you forget your group chat's been blowing up since Tuesday. Spicy, refreshing, and just boozy enough to remind you you're off the clock. And the second drink? Let's call it the Mystery Mai Tai of Joy. We don't remember what was in it. We just know it was tropical, delicious, and made us say "we should move here" at least twice. The Food: Oysters Rockefeller - Baked to perfection, smothered in a creamy, herby sauce and topped with crispy breadcrumbs. The kind of dish that makes you lean back in your chair and toss your plate at a fireplace (if they had one) Lobster Roll & Fries - A buttery masterpiece. Generous chunks of lobster, golden toasted roll, and fries that nailed the crispy-soft ratio. They didn't hold back with the portions, and we didn't hold back either. Beet Salad - A beachy surprise hit. Sweet roasted beets, creamy goat cheese spread, and peppery arugula doing a power pose on the plate. It made us feel like we were balancing out the rest of the meal... even if dessert was already a foregone conclusion. If you're heading to Bethany and want to dodge the madness while still soaking up summer magic, Heidaway is a great spot. Come for the drinks, stay for the oysters, and let the ocean breeze convince you that everything is right in the world--even if only until Monday.

Our first visit took place on Mother's Day around 4:00 PM. Because brunch was still being served and dinner didn't begin until 4:15 PM, I booked a table for two, and we passed the time at the bar. We caught some live music while I enjoyed a $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan before settling the bar tab. Once dinner service opened at 4:15 PM, we were seated inside at table 45 to escape a breezy outdoor deck. It turned out to be the debut day for their new menu. I ordered another $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan and the $36 seafood stew--a rich combination of fish, clams, shrimp, fennel, pepper, onion, Spanish chorizo, and tomato seafood broth accompanied by grilled bread. It was a generous portion, so I brought the remaining stew home to enjoy later that evening. To conclude the meal, I tried the Lucky 7 porter from Evolution Craft Brewing Company ($7), which featured dark dried fruit and sweet toffee tones balanced by notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Our server, Brendan V., did an excellent job caring for us and demonstrated great knowledge of the new menu, even while managing a large outdoor table with five children. Our total bill for that evening came to $114, excluding gratuity. We returned on Memorial Day for a second dinner, this time in a group of five that included family and a friend visiting from Scottsdale, AZ. Since the outdoor fire tables were completely full, we secured a table on the left side of the restaurant. I began with a spicy mango margarita for $14, which featured tequila, mango, lime, agave, jalapeno, and a tajin rim, and opted for the $36 seafood stew once again. Unfortunately, the cocktails were inconsistent this time; I ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan up, but it tasted like watered-down bourbon. When a second Manhattan tasted exactly the same, I decided to cancel the order. Nevertheless, our server Nadine K. provided excellent service throughout the evening, and our bill came out to $92 before gratuity. Ultimately, we all agreed that we would gladly visit again.

All food had outstanding flavor and all things were cooked perfectly. The short rib rub was thoughtfully done and you didn't even need a knife to cut though it. We also loved the creativity of the fruity pebbles in the dessert. Wait staff was a bit slow, sea bass was a bit dry but amazing skin on it, and the price was a bit high ($80) and that's coming from someone who lives in DC. Overall great place for a special night.

Our server was very friendly and appeared to be hosting and waiting tables at the same time but she was pleasant and prompt. We both ordered salads - mine was the chopped and husband chose Cesar and both were a very generous portion size and super fresh and delish. I really enjoyed it. Great price too. We chose to build our own pizza with just red sauce, cheese and Italian sausage. It was out quickly, piping hot, and VERY good. My husband is from St. Louis so he likes very thin crust and very crunchy (think cracker crust) and this was cooked to crunchy (but not burnt) perfection with fresh and yummy sausage on top. We both actually really enjoyed the meal - more than our fancier date night meal the night before. I'd absolutely come back here if ever in town again. It's charming and delicious.
