We rolled into Bethany Beach to kick off our summer, minus the chaos, and Heidaway was the first place that pulled us in with a wink and a steel drum beat. Right on the edge of the boardwalk, this place has big tropical energy. Think Key West meets Delaware--palm fronds, sea breeze, and the gentle background hum of fun. The outdoor seating is shaded but still breezy, like Mother Nature knows you want SPF without sweating through your shirt. And the music? Bright, beachy, and setting the scene for "yes, we are on vacation, thank you." Service? On point. From the friendly hostess to our magical waitress who somehow knew when we needed napkins, another round, or just a smile--everyone brought their A-game. No tourist trap vibes here. Just good, solid hospitality. Cocktails: We kicked off with a Moscow Mule, chilled in a classic copper mug and strong enough to make you forget your group chat's been blowing up since Tuesday. Spicy, refreshing, and just boozy enough to remind you you're off the clock. And the second drink? Let's call it the Mystery Mai Tai of Joy. We don't remember what was in it. We just know it was tropical, delicious, and made us say "we should move here" at least twice. The Food: Oysters Rockefeller - Baked to perfection, smothered in a creamy, herby sauce and topped with crispy breadcrumbs. The kind of dish that makes you lean back in your chair and toss your plate at a fireplace (if they had one) Lobster Roll & Fries - A buttery masterpiece. Generous chunks of lobster, golden toasted roll, and fries that nailed the crispy-soft ratio. They didn't hold back with the portions, and we didn't hold back either. Beet Salad - A beachy surprise hit. Sweet roasted beets, creamy goat cheese spread, and peppery arugula doing a power pose on the plate. It made us feel like we were balancing out the rest of the meal... even if dessert was already a foregone conclusion. If you're heading to Bethany and want to dodge the madness while still soaking up summer magic, Heidaway is a great spot. A hidden gem! This very quaint costal vibe beach restaurant is worth a try! The food was DELICIOUS, the server, Dia was on top of her game for a crazy busy night. We had the shrimp tacos and crabcake sandwich. The flavor was spectacular! Highly recommend! read more

The service was good but a bit inattentive as they took our orders, delivered food, and delivered the bill but never came to check on our table in between. And the restaurant was nearly empty for the majority of the time we spent there. I asked for the $18 smashburger well done and the waitress said they only do them well done, but it wasn't smashed nor well done. It was pink in the middle. (Pregnant women should avoid undercooked meat) The 2 burger patties were much smaller than the bun, because they weren't smashed, at all... i'm assuming they failed to train the cooks on making it correctly. The nachos were super delicious, we loved those. One of us got the salmon BLT but it was lacking sauce, and a bit dry. The fries were delicious and crispy. We recently had a wonderful lunch at Heidaway. The location is excellent, our server was friendly and very attentive and the place is cute inside. Most importantly, our food was delicious. We had the smash burger and fries, chicken and steak and shrimp tacos and a salad. Everything tasted very fresh and house made. If you're in Bethany Beach you should visit Hiedaway. The service is amazing and the food is really good. Our hostess Julie was very attentive and kind. The shrimp tacos are definitely the main event. We were pleasantly surprised! We also tried the special of the day which was blackened salmon with rice and vegetables. I want to point out a cultural nuisance with the menu. The blackened salmon wasn't what we expected. While the meal was delicious in the South blackened salmon is prepared with cajun-style seasoning. What we received was pan-seared salmon which is different. It's like ordering jerk chicken and receiving baked chicken. Overall, I was happy with my meal and the service. read more

You can't beat the location right on the boardwalk and under Mangos. I sat outside on the lovely day I visited and enjoyed an orange crush. The server was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. I ordered a lunch special and enjoyed the eggplant stack. It took a little longer than expected and the server comped my drink. Very nice place and good food. read more

After reading a YELP review of tasteless food I was hesitant to try Heidaway, however, my friend was taking me to lunch and paying. As soon as I saw the open garage door to the restaurant I was afraid it was going to be to hot/warm to eat here but actually it was fine. The bigger problem with the garage door being open was FLIES and there was no screen. Love the open air concept giving the feeling your outside, painting the walls white, and two hammocks in the restaurant but not the FLIES. The open garage is not working. Also, the loud music like they play at Hollister when your shopping . They seriously have this going on. Loud music suppresses the appetite so you may want to turn it down a notch. This should also help if you want to communicate with anyone while your eating. While flies at the beach cannot be totally eradicated they can be kept under control. Spraying fly spray and hanging fly tape is a health violation. Fly fans at openings and exits is a must. Sea Level 99 also has the same problem with FLIES with the opening and closing of doors and being on the beach. Ropewalk with open garage doors doesn't have flies because its further from the beach. We had the "Heidaway Burger" which was really tasty and good with cheddar cheese ,special sauce, tomato and red onion. I had read in advance NO SUBSTITUTIONS on anything so I removed the red onion myself. The toasted sesame bun was really good. The burger was cooked to a medium and was perfectly cooked. Loving the pickles on the burger. They don't ask you a temperature for the burger. But they got my medium right on. However, for some reason at the counter, upon entering my friend and I saw packages and packages of bread, spread all over the counter? this is the quickest way for bread to spoil leaving it exposed to light and air? Is this where the bread is stored? Shrimp Tacos on corn tortilla and pico de gallo were super fresh, healthy, and light. I had a "Miller High life", the champagne of beers, which was good, but they don't offer a cold mug, but now sure if with all the flies flying around, that I want to drink from a glass (today is the hottest day ever) that's stored upside down at the bar. Thankfully the flies can't fly into the glass with the glass face down. My friend had a lager IPA "Shore Thing" and it tasted just like apple cider vinegar. Hey Apple cider vinegar is good for a sore throat. Ding DIng ! Shore thing is a brewery located in Fire Island on Long Island , BA score of 2.78/5 . I suppose that's why the "Shore Thing" beer is $3.00. Perhaps they are just trying to get rid of this beer. RAR has a great summer beer Nanticoke Nectar and its from Cambridge put that on tap. I would eat at Heidaway again . Forgiveness because its new and its the first summer and working on the fly situation per super sweet Vegan hostess . Decorated super cute restaurant with unisex bathrooms (2). If they get rid of the fly situation this restaurant could easily be a 5/5. Please 86 the flies and turn the music down a notch! The atmosphere at Heidaway was a 10/10. The aesthetics were absolutely perfect and right out of a magazine! The food was definitely nothing special, so I wouldn't run back. But if you are looking for a cool place to hang and have a normal drink, Heidaway is a good option for that. This is a lovely location but the food was awful. The veggie black bean burger was grey and crumbly, and the lobster roll had a lot of lobster meat, but nothing else, making it also quite dry and bland. It's possible to make healthy food with flavor, but they really missed the mark. read more

Tucked away below Mango's, Heidaway is a newer restaurant/bar with great vibes. My mom and I split the Maine lobster roll and it was fantastic! For cocktails, I ordered the Gin Fizz. I'm a big gin fan, but the cocktail was too strong. It took me all of lunch to sip, which didn't allow me to try anything else. The presentation was 5/5, but the taste fell short. I would definitely go back here again though! It has a lot of potential. read more

Nice atmosphere but the food was lacking. Chicken tacos and tortas were clearly canned shredded chicken which was cold and quite disgusting

Been here twice in the last week with my 4 kids. Servers are extremely friendly and accommodating! And the menu is simple, but fantastic! The kids food items are great, good portions, and they show the same quality and care given as the regular food items. The tacos are awesome, and the hideaway burger is to die for! Always have a good meal at Heideaway and tonight was no exception. Wanted to try the passion fruit slushie and was disappointed they were out but the piña colada was excellent. We started with the roasted beet duo for apps and with the chips was delicious. Pleasant spot for a calm meal / drink just off the main Bethany boardwalk. It's nestled round the back of the beachfront area, below Mangos. We took a break from deep fried everything and had a great late lunch here - fish tacos, chicken pinchos appetizer, pork flatbread were all winners. They have a happy hour which is 3-6 with several drinks and some food on it. Staff were friendly and decor was on the classier side. Not too expensive. read more

Went there June 26th around 7pm. Sat at the bar and just had drinks so I can't review the food. The female bartender (sorry I forgot her name) was professional, polite and made some killer mojitos. My wife and I were enjoying ourselves until a young man ( not sure if he was a bartender or manager, he was walking around a lot) came behind the bar and proceeded to run his hands through his greasy hair to tie up his man bun right in front of us. After that he was touching everything behind the bar. We ordered another round but I made sure the female bartender made the drinks. After that we had to question their hygiene policies for their employees Was planning to come back at a later date to try the food but not sure now. I always try to give a restaurant a second chance to impress me when it comes to the food just in case they were having an off night but hygiene issues is different. read more

What a gem! We happened on Heidaway kind of by accident. We were in town, picking up our packets for the July 4th 5k run/walk and figured we'd stop at the pickup place for a bite. Of course no reservations, so no meal. We walked out and saw a number of options and went into Heidaway. The decor was relaxed. Our server, Hunter, was attentive and efficient. We had a nice beverage to start the experience and ordered the Tuna Ceviche as an appetizer. Holy smokes, there was a lot going on. The portion was generous and the flavor was intense and delicious. Everything in the dish complemented everything else. It was just a wow. Karen had the veggie burger on a gf roll. It was very good. I had the lobster roll. It was incredible. The portion was huge. It wasn't one of those mamby pamby tuna rolls with tons of mayo, this was the real deal. There were claws galore on this baby. The service was great and the wait time was no big deal. I'd definitely return to try other things from the menu, but fear that I'm hooked on the ceviche and lobster roll. read more

We went to Heidaway with our family for lunch. The drinks were great but someone in our group received 2 dirty beer glasses (lipstick stains & speckles). They have a wonderful staff though! Everyone was awesome. We all enjoyed our meals but someone in our party received spoiled shrimp in their tacos. The manager came over and assured us it was "good" but it smelled and tasted awful. The whole family ate here while in Bethany. The vegetarian-friendly and diverse menu attracted us. The atmosphere was very kid friendly, but it was also loud and quite... dingy. The restaurant is in an interior mall area off the boardwalk, and it felt very dark. Our tables for a group of 10 were 4-tops pushed together, and they were very wobbly. There was some food left over from the group before us under the tables, and the combination of this all kind of turned me off. To top it off, the food was excruciatingly slow to come out, which wasn't great with little ones. The people at the next table over were vaping in our direction the whole time, which again added to the "meh" vibes. The service came to our table 2 times in an hour. The were slightly busy but the restaurant manager found the time to stand next to our table and flirt with two girls for literally 30 minutes. I don't normally review restaurants, but the experience my husband and I was so amazing I had to share. We visited Heidaway for a date night. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed the gorgeous open view floor plan. Our waiter was so friendly and knowledgeable and suggested the perfect meal and wine parings. I don't think I've ever had such good scallops ever! I totally love how they are environmentally friendly. The manager even took the time to have a conversation and explain how their food is made fresh and locally sourced(even from her own farm!!). This little restaurant is a gem! They all appear to be from over two years ago and a lot of the negative reviews had to do with a lack of masks (which I understand given that time of life). But now that we are past masking, I want to give a very high recommendation to Heidaway. My husband thought their burger was one of the best he's ever had and I had a ahi tuna poke bowl sort of thing (I don't remember the name) that was fresh and delicious. I have been to the Heidiaway around 6-7 times. Although there is always some little thing that could be better I always have enjoyed going. Always liked the vibe. Went for dinner last night with some friends and the experience was pretty poor. The key thing was the service provided by the bartender. We made a reservation for 8, the staff was wonderfully accommodating ...We were there for my fathers 80th birthday he was visiting from Germany and was looking forward to the Salad Niscoise...What a disappointment that was , the ingredients were good enough and tasted fine but the salad was missing key ingredients like the potatoes and capers it was over loaded with onions and the dressing was terrible and watery and the eggs were definitely undercooked , for $20.00 I would have expected more. In general all the other dishes were okay The Hempeh bowl could have had more vegetables and less grains. Once again the staff was fantastic and super friendly but I think some of the menu items could use a little sprucing up. read more

The only good thing about this place is the decor. The staff in the kitchen didn't wear masks. I saw the cooks blowing their noses and eating in the kitchen. None of our requests were met - we asked for darkly toasted bread and they said they couldn't do it. I asked for over-medium eggs and they said they couldn't do it. We asked for waffles from the menu and they said they didn't have any. Our food took 45 minutes to come out with an almost empty restaurant. Our coffee came in paper cups and they seated people incredibly close to each other. Would not recommend this place in general but definitely not in a pandemic. read more
