Ricky was the best thing about this place. Local, friendly, full of fantastic information! We loved Ricky!

You can't beat the location right on the boardwalk and under Mangos. I sat outside on the lovely day I visited and enjoyed an orange crush. The server was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. I ordered a lunch special and enjoyed the eggplant stack. It took a little longer than expected and the server comped my drink. Very nice place and good food.

Not good beers on happy hour menu if you like IPAs

After reading a YELP review of tasteless food I was hesitant to try Heidaway, however, my friend was taking me to lunch and paying. As soon as I saw the open garage door to the restaurant I was afraid it was going to be to hot/warm to eat here but actually it was fine. The bigger problem with the garage door being open was FLIES and there was no screen. Love the open air concept giving the feeling your outside, painting the walls white, and two hammocks in the restaurant but not the FLIES. The open garage is not working. Also, the loud music like they play at Hollister when your shopping . They seriously have this going on. Loud music suppresses the appetite so you may want to turn it down a notch. This should also help if you want to communicate with anyone while your eating. While flies at the beach cannot be totally eradicated they can be kept under control. Spraying fly spray and hanging fly tape is a health violation. Fly fans at openings and exits is a must. Sea Level 99 also has the same problem with FLIES with the opening and closing of doors and being on the beach. Ropewalk with open garage doors doesn't have flies because its further from the beach. We had the "Heidaway Burger" which was really tasty and good with cheddar cheese ,special sauce, tomato and red onion. I had read in advance NO SUBSTITUTIONS on anything so I removed the red onion myself. The toasted sesame bun was really good. The burger was cooked to a medium and was perfectly cooked. Loving the pickles on the burger. They don't ask you a temperature for the burger. But they got my medium right on. However, for some reason at the counter, upon entering my friend and I saw packages and packages of bread, spread all over the counter? this is the quickest way for bread to spoil leaving it exposed to light and air? Is this where the bread is stored? Shrimp Tacos on corn tortilla and pico de gallo were super fresh, healthy, and light. I had a "Miller High life", the champagne of beers, which was good, but they don't offer a cold mug, but now sure if with all the flies flying around, that I want to drink from a glass (today is the hottest day ever) that's stored upside down at the bar. Thankfully the flies can't fly into the glass with the glass face down. My friend had a lager IPA "Shore Thing" and it tasted just like apple cider vinegar. Hey Apple cider vinegar is good for a sore throat. Ding DIng ! Shore thing is a brewery located in Fire Island on Long Island , BA score of 2.78/5 . I suppose that's why the "Shore Thing" beer is $3.00. Perhaps they are just trying to get rid of this beer. RAR has a great summer beer Nanticoke Nectar and its from Cambridge put that on tap. I would eat at Heidaway again . Forgiveness because its new and its the first summer and working on the fly situation per super sweet Vegan hostess . Decorated super cute restaurant with unisex bathrooms (2). If they get rid of the fly situation this restaurant could easily be a 5/5. Please 86 the flies and turn the music down a notch! LOL

The atmosphere at Heidaway was a 10/10. The aesthetics were absolutely perfect and right out of a magazine! The food was definitely nothing special, so I wouldn't run back. But if you are looking for a cool place to hang and have a normal drink, Heidaway is a good option for that. The outdoor seating includes cute swings, couches and fun chairs with blankets for the cool summer nights, even a few fire pits!

    Whole fish, pricey but excellent!

Great service from Hunter! Service was attentive and friendly. Hunter recommended the whole fish and it was cooked to perfection.

Tucked away below Mango's, Heidaway is a newer restaurant/bar with great vibes. My mom and I split the Maine lobster roll and it was fantastic! For cocktails, I ordered the Gin Fizz. I'm a big gin fan, but the cocktail was too strong. It took me all of lunch to sip, which didn't allow me to try anything else. The presentation was 5/5, but the taste fell short. I would definitely go back here again though! It has a lot of potential.

Been here twice in the last week with my 4 kids. Servers are extremely friendly and accommodating! And the menu is simple, but fantastic! The kids food items are great, good portions, and they show the same quality and care given as the regular food items. The tacos are awesome, and the hideaway burger is to die for! My kids now demand we go here every time we hit the beach :) Don't hesitate heading here, you won't regret it!

Always have a good meal at Heideaway and tonight was no exception. Wanted to try the passion fruit slushie and was disappointed they were out but the piña colada was excellent. We started with the roasted beet duo for apps and with the chips was delicious. Entreè was a hard choice but the sides for the jerk chicken tipped the scales - roasted sweet potato and yucca with red cabbage slaw with mango. Highly recommend!

Scallops!! Omg delicious will order again!!!

I wanted to enjoy this so much more. We live full-time near Bethany Beach, but just got around to…read moretrying Off the Hook for the first time last night. The highlights (and lowlights): The service was awful: We arrived at 5:17 and were seated at 5:22. Drinks took 26 minutes to deliver and the order was wrong. My FiL clearly asked for a Pinot Grigio, but a Sangria was delivered. Cody, the server*, politely repeated that he ordered the Sangria, but that did not happen (my FiL drinks only dry wines). We waited to toast my in-laws anniversary, but had to wait another 7-8 minutes for the correct glass of wine to be delivered. There is no attention to detail in the dining room. The staff are on island time. The first appetizer arrived at 6:08--46 minutes after we sat down! At 6:20, I bussed our table. (After dinner, I bussed our table a second time). Even trying to pay the check Cody was MIA. He came by the table perhaps six times from 5:22-6:45. *There seems to be a lot of summer hires here--folks that want to hang out at the beach, but need to work to pay the rent. The training has be to incredibly minimal. I would guess no family meal, no 5-minute daily wine pairing rundown...basically no front of the house training. When the customer has to stack dirty plates and get a busboy's attention to grab them TWICE...not good, especially for the prices at Off the Hook. The food was quite hit or miss. The good: the crab bisque was excellent...really amazing! The scallop appetizer was also delicious with a base of grits and bacon underneath. However... The bad: we wanted to share the scallop appetizer and asked Cody how many scallops came with that. He said "three". The app was delivered with TWO scallops (Yes...TWO scallops for $19). They were not huge scallops...so 16/20 count. Wholesale, $18 a pound, less than a dollar each. To charge $19 for an appetizer with TWO scallops? Wow! The dish cost perhaps $3.25. A bottle of wine that retails for $15 is $30 in a restaurant. I get it, but marking up TWO scallops with some grits to $19 is insane. I asked the manager about the missing scallop. He advised that the entree came with three scallops--the app two. The entree was $39!! $39 for three scallops! If these were U/8 or U/15 scallops, I maybe could see it, but two 16/20 scallops for $19 and three for $39 is nuts. The pappardelle (appetizer portion) was completely flavorless. It was not cooked with any salt and pepper. It tasted like buttered noodles you find on a kid's menu. Adding salt and pepper (at the table) did little to fix it. My wife's pappardelle entree was equally bland. She tried mine; I tried hers. She looked right at me and said "There is no seasoning on this!". My thought exactly. My FiL had the salmon. He reported that it was tasty. While it was cooked well, $35 for an approximately 5 oz portion is again nuts. As a local, I really wanted to enjoy this meal. It was an anniversary dinner for my in-laws. $260 for four people with bad service and hit-or-miss food and the portions described is not good. I'm not a tourist. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the FLIES. This is an INSIDE, white tablecloth dining establishment with $30-40 entrees, NOT a beachfront bar. 3-4 houseflies, accompanied by a gnat, joined us for dinner. Crazy. Bethany Beach, Delaware has limited options for dining and cars lined up 100 deep on the main road into town. This can be the only explanation for Off the Hook being so busy, so often. Tourists from NYC and Philadelphia don't bat an eye at paying $39 for three scallops. I don't know what other explanation makes sense.

Our first visit took place on Mother's Day around 4:00 PM. Because brunch was still being served and dinner didn't begin until 4:15 PM, I booked a table for two, and we passed the time at the bar. We caught some live music while I enjoyed a $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan before settling the bar tab. Once dinner service opened at 4:15 PM, we were seated inside at table 45 to escape a breezy outdoor deck. It turned out to be the debut day for their new menu. I ordered another $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan and the $36 seafood stew--a rich combination of fish, clams, shrimp, fennel, pepper, onion, Spanish chorizo, and tomato seafood broth accompanied by grilled bread. It was a generous portion, so I brought the remaining stew home to enjoy later that evening. To conclude the meal, I tried the Lucky 7 porter from Evolution Craft Brewing Company ($7), which featured dark dried fruit and sweet toffee tones balanced by notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Our server, Brendan V., did an excellent job caring for us and demonstrated great knowledge of the new menu, even while managing a large outdoor table with five children. Our total bill for that evening came to $114, excluding gratuity. We returned on Memorial Day for a second dinner, this time in a group of five that included family and a friend visiting from Scottsdale, AZ. Since the outdoor fire tables were completely full, we secured a table on the left side of the restaurant. I began with a spicy mango margarita for $14, which featured tequila, mango, lime, agave, jalapeno, and a tajin rim, and opted for the $36 seafood stew once again. Unfortunately, the cocktails were inconsistent this time; I ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan up, but it tasted like watered-down bourbon. When a second Manhattan tasted exactly the same, I decided to cancel the order. Nevertheless, our server Nadine K. provided excellent service throughout the evening, and our bill came out to $92 before gratuity. Ultimately, we all agreed that we would gladly visit again.

I also enjoyed my lobster tail jambalaya for $22, which I was able to finish this time, since the quantity was decreased due to inflation. My total bill was $41.50 excluding gratuity, which again I used my gift card. We agreed we will continue to return here for happy hour.
