After applying my $50 gift card letter, the final total was brought down to $52. As always, Chandra provided excellent service. On another visit, we joined my son and his wife at the bar for happy hour. I ordered the happy hour lobster roll for $26. Before gratuity, the total came out to $102, which was lowered to $52 after using my $50 gift card letter. Chandra gave us great service once again. We returned once more with my son and his wife for happy hour at the bar. For this trip, my lobster roll came with a noticeably smaller portion of lobster compared to previous times. The bill prior to tip was $109. Applying my $50 gift letter brought the balance down to $59. As usual, Chandra took great care of us. We all agreed that we'll definitely keep returning for lunch, happy hour, or dinner. read more

It was a little hectic walking in and trying to get a table because it was super busy. Everyone seemed to be trying to get to the bar to take advantage of the happy hour deals. The happy hour specials are great, but just keep in mind that they're only available at the bar. For a Monday night, it was definitely busy. There was only one bartender working the bar and handling the service drinks, while another bartender was taking care of the bar tables, so they seemed very overwhelmed. I actually received my oysters before I even got my drink, even though I ordered them at the same time. That said, our server was trying her best, and the busyness was completely understandable. I wanted to enjoy this so much more. We live full-time near Bethany Beach, but just got around to trying Off the Hook for the first time last night. The highlights (and lowlights): The service was awful: We arrived at 5:17 and were seated at 5:22. Drinks took 26 minutes to deliver and the order was wrong. My FiL clearly asked for a Pinot Grigio, but a Sangria was delivered. Cody, the server*, politely repeated that he ordered the Sangria, but that did not happen (my FiL drinks only dry wines). We waited to toast my in-laws anniversary, but had to wait another 7-8 minutes for the correct glass of wine to be delivered. There is no attention to detail in the dining room. The staff are on island time. The first appetizer arrived at 6:08--46 minutes after we sat down! At 6:20, I bussed our table. (After dinner, I bussed our table a second time). Even trying to pay the check Cody was MIA. He came by the table perhaps six times from 5:22-6:45. *There seems to be a lot of summer hires here--folks that want to hang out at the beach, but need to work to pay the rent. The training has be to incredibly minimal. I would guess no family meal, no 5-minute daily wine pairing rundown...basically no front of the house training. When the customer has to stack dirty plates and get a busboy's attention to grab them TWICE...not good, especially for the prices at Off the Hook. The food was quite hit or miss. The good: the crab bisque was excellent...really amazing! The scallop appetizer was also delicious with a base of grits and bacon underneath. However... The bad: we wanted to share the scallop appetizer and asked Cody how many scallops came with that. He said "three". The app was delivered with TWO scallops (Yes...TWO scallops for $19). They were not huge scallops...so 16/20 count. Wholesale, $18 a pound, less than a dollar each. To charge $19 for an appetizer with TWO scallops? Wow! The dish cost perhaps $3.25. A bottle of wine that retails for $15 is $30 in a restaurant. I get it, but marking up TWO scallops with some grits to $19 is insane. I asked the manager about the missing scallop. He advised that the entree came with three scallops--the app two. The entree was $39!! $39 for three scallops! If these were U/8 or U/15 scallops, I maybe could see it, but two 16/20 scallops for $19 and three for $39 is nuts. The pappardelle (appetizer portion) was completely flavorless. It was not cooked with any salt and pepper. It tasted like buttered noodles you find on a kid's menu. Adding salt and pepper (at the table) did little to fix it. My wife's pappardelle entree was equally bland. She tried mine; I tried hers. She looked right at me and said "There is no seasoning on this!". My thought exactly. My FiL had the salmon. He reported that it was tasty. While it was cooked well, $35 for an approximately 5 oz portion is again nuts. As a local, I really wanted to enjoy this meal. It was an anniversary dinner for my in-laws. $260 for four people with bad service and hit-or-miss food and the portions described is not good. I'm not a tourist. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the FLIES. This is an INSIDE, white tablecloth dining establishment with $30-40 entrees, NOT a beachfront bar. 3-4 houseflies, accompanied by a gnat, joined us for dinner. Crazy. Bethany Beach, Delaware has limited options for dining and cars lined up 100 deep on the main road into town. This can be the only explanation for Off the Hook being so busy, so often. Tourists from NYC and Philadelphia don't bat an eye at paying $39 for three scallops. I don't know what other explanation makes sense. read more

I was told by that the hooked location in Ocean City that all restaurants were gluten-free. I had the shrimp tacos on corn tortillas and they were amazing. I went to Bethany and ordered gluten-free tacos... Corn tortillas... And they told me that they were not available. In short, she simply loves the spot and "ordered the kung poa calamari, tuna tataki , her meemaw got a shrimp spaghetti in a vodka sauce and her mom got some salad. All was at minimum a 7.5/10. Fantastic! Friends and I had dinner at Off the Hook last night. It was my first time and I was so impressed by the food and the drinks! We got the crab dip and firecracker shrimp appetizers to share and they were super delicious. For entrees, everyone had tuna poke, a salmon entree, a seared tuna entree, and shrimp tacos (with the same delicious fried shrimp). We loved it so much! Also, the drink menu was super creative and had so many tempting drinks! We learned from the mixologist, Chandra, that she had actually won several awards for the drinks she had created. Chandra was so friendly and helpful and all the drinks we ordered were special and interesting. She even made two awesome mocktails for my friends. What a great addition to Bethany! Off the Hook has long been one of our favorite places to dine at the beach. They renovated and expanded since our last visit a few summers ago and it's spacious and sleek. We stopped in for lunch because we were craving their fried calamari and crab bisque, our go-tos. They were as delicious as we remembered. The fish tacos were fresh and substantial without being too filling. We enjoyed a margarita flight with lunch - our favorites were the hibiscus and raspberry. Service was friendly and prompt. One of several hook restaurants . We started with a beet and arugula salad. Fresh ingredients with a nice vinaigrette got us off to a good start. Complementary bread slices and seasoned olive oil accompanied the salad spoke to the generosity of the restaurant. Speaking about largess, the restaurant started its buy one entree, get a lesser priced one free on Tuesday through Thursday. This deal is off season only. October through May. I had the halibut. It was cooked perfectly leaving it moist and tender. It was a humus for texture, wild mushrooms and onions that popped. My wife had scallops over polenta and corn chutney. The latter was great, and the halibut was excellent (i am allergic ) according to my wife. Both of our entrees had generous port Alas, too full for dessert, but it should be obvious. If I could leave ZERO stars I would. I have never had a restaurant made me feel more unwelcome. From the moment we walked inside we were treated by the manager and we asked if we could get a drink at the bar and he immediately asked us to wait outside in the pouring rain. We went for our first time on a "50% off entrees" Tuesday evening recently. We had a short wait, unfortunately they weren't serving outside due to lack of servers. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious - I got the maple salmon, my husband got the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The only negative was that due to the place being fully booked, it was extremely loud in there, with each table talking louder over the next to be heard. Spinach salad, and wings.. let me tell you as a previous server for 20 years, I've handled a lot of salads and wings over the years and these were top-notch. The pictures will show that these were to go items that could be plated right up at the restaurant and served just as they looked. You know when you see a commercial burger that looks perfect but it never looks like that when you get it, not the case here. I met a friend in Bethany for lunch today. Off season, there are fewer places open. Neither one of us had dined at Off the Hook before, but it was a home run--I'm so glad we found it! We shared the calamari appetizer. It was really tasty and just the right amount of crunchy. I ordered the fish sandwich. It came on a really nice brioche bun. The fish was hot & the coating was very tasty. They serve pesto fries, which I was not sure about, but they were wonderful! The place has a nice bar and the decorations are very stylish. The And Chips is Buttermilk Fried Cod with fries that never disappoints with good portion sizes, tasty cocktail and tartar sauce, and side of Cole Slaw which had red onions in it, not my favorite. It also had fries with pesto that was excellent. The Crispy Flounder sandwich with tomato, and lettuce was great,as it had just the right amount of crunch. It also had the delicious pesto fries. Have been here many times on each trip to Bethany area. Off the hook always a good option. Latest trip was maybe not quite as smooth, menu seems to have narrowed and have less choices. We sat in the the dining room and one of my boys wanted something off the other menu which they made difficult. Then I ordered the grilled wahoo, they brought me the tiniest bit of fish I kind of laughed. I'm not someone who needs a huge portion to be happy but it was about the size of 2 thumbs. I saw someone else nearby had one twice the size. I didn't really want to make a fuss as was there with my mum for a nice meal, made a quick remark to the waitress and she was very snarky.
