Update on prior review: Nothing has changed a week later. Finish line still has the bike. Called them this morning and the guy who builds bikes is not in so they don't know status of bike. How can they not know what's going on with my husband's bike. You saying not one person in this business knows. We have been down there several times in last week with being told still waiting on frame and demanding proof or answers with the owner just standing there not saying a word. Demanded bike by end of day today or money back. 4 weeks of this is enough with not one call from them with an update and us going there. We are the ones that have to call them to get an update with no answers. Absolutely ridiculous!!! Will never shop at this place again. I have been to Finish Line four times. Three out of the four times I have received very bad customer service. Most recently, I bought a tire that I was hoping would work for my trainer better than the one I currently have. The one I bought had very little tread on it but it turned out to be enough tread that it made a loud buzzing sound when used on the trainer. I found a tire online with absolutely no tread (truly slick) and asked if they would order the one I found online and exchange the one I bought. I didn't even want my money back; I just wanted to get a better tire. I was told that because the tire I wanted (made by Continental) was not found in their Continental catalogue they would not be able to order it and make the exchange. There was absolutely no further effort to help me out at all. The guy just seemed like he was annoyed I would even ask. Once they have your money, they have no need for you anymore. Seems a very short-sighted business model. I'll never use them again. read more

A simple bike shop. I like the convenient location just off the bike path, and the mom 'n' pop atmosphere. They are not as fast on repairs as Action Sports. This is my only real criticism. I just happened to be on a bike ride and went in to see about getting my handle bars raised. I was sent to the back to see Gary. He immediately said that my bike wasn't safe. Apparently my handle bars were put on wrong. So he put it on the rack and corrected the issue , along with a few other adjustments. I am so grateful I happened to stop by. Being new to the biking world this place made me feel so comfortable purchasing bikes for the whole family. I first ordered a kids bike for my son(the owner spent over a half hour answering questions and making sure I was comfortable with features and quality of the bike I ordered for my son) he told me it would be in Wednesday and sure enough mid morning I get the call it's in and already built and serviced ready for pick up. Fast forward a week later my son loves his bike probably already put 15-20 miles on it. Today I went in and bought a bike for myself I got one of his employees (Gary) same level of dedication as the owner he didn't rush me and was super knowledgeable about all the bikes and what my needs where in a trail bike. I have been going there for years to get my bicycle tire flats repaired. On one occasion, I had two bicycles repaired and the next morning the tires were flat. I called at that moment and a young man said to bring them in. I took the bicycles in and a woman with dark hair told me they could not fix it unless I paid again. She said it was my fault that they were flat because I rode them home two blocks. I told her that I had been going there for years and I would rather not go somewhere else, but she literally told me to go somewhere else because she was not going to fix it. So I have not been back. I paid somewhere around 80. dollars to repair my tires that day and then they couldn't have the decency to repair them for me since Ive been a devoted customer. I have not since been back, nor will I ever go back. Customer service is horrible and most of time they make you feel unwanted or a nuisance. I don't like that kind of atmosphere or how they value their customers. On top of that, they are charging A LOT for their services. read more

I can't say enough good things about this bike shop! I had an "unfortunate accident" with my road bike (my first love) and I needed assistance from an expert on how to "fix" my bike. After Alan looked at my original bike, after the accident, he informed me that it was not salvageable. Hesitant but hopeful I then preceded to purchase a new road bike from Alan. (Mind you I have not purchased a bike in 15+ years!) Feeling unsure of myself and "out of the loop" with today's bikes, Alan was patient and knowledgeable! I bought a road bike with all the components I wanted (for a reasonable price!) After riding it for a day I went back to the shop... it was too small for me. Hesitant once again I voiced all my concerns to Alan. He was patient and understanding as he put me on the trainer and checked the "fit." He then ordered me a larger size and fit me on it when it came in. The medium frame fit great! I'm fortunate that this local bike shop is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! I have gone to finish line for many years and have purchased a number of bikes there. The prices are in line with most bike shops and the service is good. They seem to have a real passion for bikes and understand you don't have to race or do the race across America to be a serious biker. The vibe here is better then at Action sports who I would say is their only real competition. If I owned a bike shop I would have one like finish line. My wife and I have visited Finish Line store in Bakersfield several times to buy a bicycle, but left empty handed because I am very picky and careful when I buy things. Each time we visited that store we did test ride this and that bicycle all over again as many times as we wanted without feeling pressured to buy anything. The staff has been very patient and very courteous with us, considering our long term "indecision". If you visit the store ask for Tony. He is very knowledgeable about bikes and he goes out of his way to make you feel appreciated. He is very friendly, but not the "pushy-type" salesperson. Tony welcomed me to try out all the bicycles as many times as I wanted and gave me the pros and cons of each choice, including comparisons for best gear, material and prices for the different brands and styles - an extremely nice person. I took my 10 year old proprietary brand bike in for service. I had taken the bike into another company several times and the bike was getting worse and worse. Honestly I thought the bike was done for and I was going to have to get a new one. The crew at Finish Line tuned, cleaned and put on a new chain in less than a day. When I picked the bike up it looked almost new. (Which is saying something. I'm rather hard on my bike.) I went out to the parking lot and took the bike for a spin. I was amazed. It rode like it did when I first bought the bike. Well done! This is my new favorite place and I won't be taking my bike or bike business any where else. read more

After crashing at china peek mtb park, I decided it was finally time to give in and buy some new disc brake pads. I brought my bike in at 2 and they called me back in around 4. Holy guacamole that was quick, and super friendly crew. They gave me a hard time about my muddy bike, but I wouldn't expect anything else from a quality shop. The price for parts and service was way better than what I was thinking about doing which included ordering the pads on amazon and fumbling with my bike while trying to follow along with a youtube help video. I'm sure I could have figured it out, but hey with service like this, why waste time doing it yourself. read more

I've been searching for the perfect full suspension mountain bike for about 6 months. When the '14 Giant Trance SX came out I was sold. I've had work done by this shop before and they've always done a great job. Friendly, decent prices, etc. Very slow, always a day or two late but I'm ok with that as long as the quality is there. I visited the shop a few times recently in regards to my search for a new bike, everyone was very friendly and I got a good vibe. When the time came to pull the trigger and talk about pricing the owner was not willing to budge much, he came down to MAP and that was it. MAP should be the starting point for negotiations but that's ok, I'm willing to pay more to support local business. I had already taken up some of their time discussing this bike and other options so I was determined to buy from them even though I found several shops down south selling these bikes $600 cheaper. I was up front with what the other shops were letting these bikes go for and I told him I did not expect him to match their prices because Finishline seems to be a smaller volume outfit. I should also mention I wanted to convert the drivetrain to a 1x11 right away which was roughly $1,100-$1,200 at the manufacturer's suggested retail price. To help them out and support local business I was willing to pay $600 more for an identical bike at Finishline if he cut me a good deal on the new drivetrain components. I'm thinking it's a no brainer, he gets practically full price on a $4,050 bike and he also makes a little on a big component sale as well. He comes back with a price on the components that's $350 OVER the manufacturer's retail pricing. In the end I would have been paying more than full retail price for the bike and for the components. I got the feeling he wasn't really interested in dealing with me because he made a couple statements that he would not have made had he been listening. I couldn't hang up the phone quickly enough because I was wasting my time. I gladly purchased the bike and components from another store 2 hours later and the out the door price for the bike and the $1,100 (retail) worth of components was $100 over just the cost of the bike from Finishline. I came out way ahead and the only thing I regret is being ready to pay an additional $600 to give them my business when they clearly didn't want it. It's the owner's right to not want to budge on the price of the bike but it's another thing to try and charge higher than full retail for components to get back the money he knocked off the bike plus some extra. I gave two stars because it's insulting to think I would fall for that and because I wasted my time dealing with these guys while I risked missing the sale price at the other shop. I know what cost is on these bikes and they would have been making a nice profit at MAP. I'm shocked he would lose a sale over the cost of a component set but I benefited nicely. The money saved will by all of my safety gear and a few additional upgrades to the bike. To make it worse, my friend was about to purchase a nearly identical bike from them but that's not happening. Nice people, nice shop, great service albeit a little slow but I would never make a large purchase from them. Stick with small odds and ends stuff. read more

Fast Friendly Service! I'm from out of town and got a slow leaking flat tire from a patch of nasty stickers (at least 50 stickers in each of the tires). I called Finish Line and asked if they could repair it while I waited, and they responded in the affirmative. I pumped up the tire and rode a few miles to the shop. The repair guy started replacing the tube immediately and had me ready to go in 15 minutes. Amazing service! Highly recommended! read more

Three experiences with Finish Line Bikes in Bakersfield. One positive, two negative. First experience last year was to get a pair of SIDI shoes for my road bike. Great experience, fit and finish of product was excellent, staff seemed very knowledgeable, and I was riding on the bike path about 30 minutes after I walked in the door. Experience two happened a couple of weeks ago. I called to get a price quote for having my derailleur cables replaced. Gentleman on the phone quoted $17/cable - so total quote over the phone was ~ $35 for two cables. Dropped my bike off the next day, got an order ticket, and went home to wait for my repairs. Picked my bike up 3 days later, which was on time, but I was charged $55. The mark up didn't really bother me at the time because I had such a great experience the first time with Finish Line. But then I got my bike home, and went for a ride. Shifted horrible. Worse than before I dropped the bike off. I live in Tehachapi, an hour away, so bringing my bike back wasn't an option. So I spent 3 hours the next day in my garage adjusting my cables which made me miss my riding window for the weekend. Experience three happened earlier this week. Found a marked down Felt mountain bike online. The price was really low, but it was a 2011 model so I just assumed they were trying to clear old inventory to make space for 2016 models. They had two sizes still "in stock", so I bought the size bike to fit my wife. Credit card entered into their database online, received a confirmation email and order number. Went to the shop the next day to pick it up. The person I spoke with knew right away what bike I was there to get. Fully aware of the "glitch", as he called it in the online pricing system. He told me that they weren't going to sell me a bike for that price. I was fine with that, and continued to make small talk. Then the guy asked me if I was a computer hacker, who had programs running that searched online for pricing glitches. This guy actually stood there and accused me of illegal activity, in front of other people in the store. He made the false accusations and somehow spun the pricing error back on me like it was my fault, like I'm a felon. I was kind of taken away, and didn't really know how to react at the moment. So I decided to took a look around and collect my thoughts. After looking at some hardtails for a couple of minutes, he approached me again and tried and sell me a bike. Was this a bait and switch? BTW - the price for the Felt is still active - 5 days later. read more
