I am giving Fiorella a 4.5 star. I've been here a handful of times after being introduced to this wonderful restaurant. You should make reservation a week ahead before coming here. Usually no one answers the phone so leave a message. Fritto misto di mare: shrimp, calamari, and lightly breaded scallops with homemade marinara sauce. This by far is my favorite and I always order it when I come here. Cacio e pepe: spaghetti with cheese and pepper. It sounds so plain but it is delicious. Order a meatball on the side. Thank me later. Chicken cutlet: piece of breaded chicken. I see so how of these come out of the kitchen but this dish isn't for me. It is really plain. I ordered it once and never got it again. Gnocchi: Thursdays are Gnocchi night! It is a different special every week. The gnocchi is homemade. I've had it with ricotta, pesto and marinara sauce combination. Yum. Crostada: puff pastry dessert with fruit on top and a side of vanilla ice cream. This is heavenly and the fruit depends on what's in season. I have had the strawberry and peach crostada and they were both excellent. I am drooling thinking about it. When the restaurant is full the noise level is quite loud. Dining at the bar and outside are available for first come first serve. I've been seated in the back near the kitchen on a hot summer night and man was it hot back there. I probably would have given it 5 stars if I hadn't infused so much wine before and while I came there. What I mean by this is that wine tends to makes me very generous with food reviews. Thus I have to be certain it's 5 stars when my mind is totally clear. Somewhat kidding, but then again somewhat true. We just loved every single thing about the restaurant. It was simple parking, yards away which is not always easy in the city, example Rocco on Monro Avenue where I had to walk three blocks in the rain. Although at Fiorella it is very loud in the restaurant, they also have many tables outside for those who want less noise. For appetizers we ordered wine as well as pizza three meatballs and calamari. We truly felt that they were all equally great. The pizza especially Tres Magnifique given the fact that I had pizza in New York City a week ago. and enjoyed Fiorella's more. The waitress, her service, perfect. Our waitress was not only professional but she had a way to make us feel special. This waitress could probably sell anything from pizza to 100,000 shares of Amazon Stock at $1500 a share. Then again I drink a lot of wine (wink). Finally the price. I felt the price was incredibly fair. In addition the tables were not right on top of each other. This place is a definite winner. Next time I will not drink wine. This place is absolutely delicious! My fiancé and I visited Rochester for a weekend to celebrate his birthday, this was his choice for the birthday dinner--and I'm so happy he picked it! Everything was delicious and the staff was so friendly. I highly recommend the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe; the noodles were beautifully made and were perfectly tender, and the sauce was glossy and gorgeously flecked all the way through with fresh black pepper. For dessert, we got the chocolate olive oil cake, which was a great balance of utter decadence and well-rounded chocolate flavor. We did not have a reservation on a Saturday night but put our name in and walked to nearby bitter honey while we waited. e were called via cell about an hour later. The food was fantastic. The frito misto with squid, shrimp and scallops were so tasty and tender. I wish there was more scallops in the dish however. The marinara that accompanied it was spot on. I have completely fallen in love with this cozy Public Market spot. Going on a limb here and saying it is the best homemade pasta I have had in Rochester, ever. Super authentic and reminded me of the fresh ingredients I ate while I was actually in Italy. From the cheese in the pasta dish to the pears on my pizza, everything was super fresh and tasty. Date and I decided to split a pasta and pizza and I think this is the BEST way to go. Getting to experience more tasty food is always the correct choice! Our pasta came out first - we went with the malfaldine & funghi dish and it was put together flawlessly. The perfect balance of mushroom to squash and pasta to cheese. I have issues with a pasta dish that doesn't center around the noodle itself, and Fiorella clearly has nothing to hide. Our pasta's texture was somehow sturdy enough to handle all of the ingredients in the dish while maintaining a soft airy finish. The carbohydrate gods are weeping with delight somewhere. The pizza is served on a giant tomato can which is brilliant - keeps the goods away from the wine and gives everyone at the table easy access. We went with the cacio e pere pizza which includes arugula, pears, Parmesan, ricotta, and black pepper. This spot proves (again) it knows how to upgrade this basics in a big way with their pizza crust. It is substantial while still being then and has the perfect amount of "burnt" taste. I want to try all of the other pizzas on their menu and eventually eat some kind of meat, as everything we ordered was completely vegetarian. Our eating experience was amplified by the accommodating, friendly staff. Our server was equal parts knowledgeable and personable and took the time to answer all of our questions. The ambiance is not overly fancy while still maintaining and upscale feel. Add this quaint spot to a list of reasons the Rochester Public market rocks! Keep in mind there is no parking lot for the restaurant. It is a minor miracle that I found parking on a Saturday afternoon! I had been to the market many times growing up in Rochester but never checked out Fiorella. I decided it was a must after a fellow Yelper mentioned it was on his "pizza bucket list." Pizza here is wood fired and will come out lightening fast. They claim the dough is naturally leavened. These are calling cards of serious pizza makers. This is not Pontillo's (which I love.) I ordered the salad of the day which had local field greens, radishes, goat cheese, heirloom tomatoes and a dressing with white balsamic vinegar. It was delicious but I had two issues. There was actually too much cheese (yes that is possible) and someone should remind the salad guy to remove the eye from the tomatos before serving them. The pizza was fantastic. The char from the wood fire was excellent. Beautiful crust. Loved the tomato sauce and the cheese. Very appropriate amounts. I also asked for pepperoni because I LOVE pepperoni. They used the curly kind which adds another blast of flavor as apposed to the commercial stuff. I can't believe I am saying this but there was actually too much. It caused the pizza to be a tad salty. I also saw big plates of homemade pasta come out of the kitchen which looked fabulous. Hit the Public Market on Thursday morning and have been wanting to try Fiorella's for awhile now and finally got the opportunity and was not disappointed. Very cool spot great concept. Order at the counter and kind of set the table for yourself. Almost like being at a friend of family members house. Ordered the two spaghetti options. Cacio E Pepe and tomato basil. Added a meatball to the tomato basil and wish I order more. The meatball was delicious. The cacio e pepe was fantastic too. You know you have to mix the spaghetti to get all the sauce from the bottom. So delicious. We also ordered a margarita pie. The sauce was awesome the dough had such a nice char but not crispy. I really liked the meatball and would definitely try the meatball sandwich or just a side of three. So good. I really want to try and get back for dinner. Highly recommend for lunch. Ordered the tagliatelle.. and was so disappointed. The oysters were tiny and tasted like dirt. A good portion of my clams were sealed shut so I couldn't even eat them. I ate the pasta but it didn't fill me up. My boyfriend had the daily special salad and said it was tasty but didn't fill him up either. While making the reservation it had been mentioned that it was my birthday, so after finishing our meals our waitress brought over a chocolate piece of cake with a candle on it. The cake was moist and yummy, and I thought this was going to turn the night around. HOWEVER, the check came and they charged us $7 for the birthday cake slice that we did not even order. What a gem! Quaint little joint with a great vibe nestled in the Public Market area. Stopped in solo while I was traveling to Rochester. Server was friendly and excited about the food. Started with a delightful approachable Toscana. Perfect way to compliment the calamari appetizer. Perfectly crisp and tender, not overdone at all. Served with a spicy red dipping sauce and wilted arugula and banana peppers. And then the wood fired pizza. White garlic with locally foraged Charred ramp leaves. Picked up my Birthday dinner on Saturday. Although we've dined at the restaurant several times over the years, we were unsure how the take out experience would stack up. Finally made it to Fiorella!! What a gem!!!! We had a 7:30 reservation and were seated as soon as we walked in. The staff were all very nice and professional. We ordered the pizza special for an appetizer. The dough, the sauce, the meat, fresh cheese....all just amazing. We had to ask the waitress to wrap it up so we would stop eating it. For our main courses, we ordered the swordfish special and the chicken cutlets. The swordfish was tender and buttery. Probably the best swordfish dish I've ever had. The cutlets were cooked perfectly. Crunchy and tender and a subtle lemon flavor which was perfect with the fried breading. The chef sent out a couple meatballs for us to try and they were delightful! Tender and so much flavor. We did end with the flourless olive oil cake. It was the perfect end to a wonderful meal. We will be going back to Fiorella soon!! I'm looking forward to trying some of their handmade pastas. I'm working on my photo skills. I didn't remember to take a pic until I was more than half way through my entrees. Since my last couple of reviews, I've been back here maybe 10 more times. I've brought friends for dinner, been in by myself to dine at the bar, had breakfast with friends, and my hubby and I also had the special multi-course dinner for New Years Eve. Overall, I have been really pleased with every experience (though I have not re-ordered pizza). I have to say my faves are the pasta and gnocchi dishes. I think the portion size is great for the money, the fresh-made pasta is really beautiful, and the sauces are all excellent. On my most recent visit I had the cacio e pepe - something I kept reading about but which seemed so simple - just butter, cheese, salt and pepper, right? But it is so light and comforting, and portion is huge - I added a meatball to my order and took half home for another meal. I will definitely get that again. This is hands down my new favorite Italian fix! Simple, authentic, quality food. The most endearing service. A modern farmhouse decor that is screams "kitchen goals!" Overall, Fiorella is an experience you can't miss. Our drinks: A Mixed Berry Sangria and Peroni on tap, were the perfect start to our evening. They perfectly complimented the Prosciutto Platter we ordered to share. This appetizer is a great way to sample the pizza and also appreciate the fine and fresh ingredients that this place is all about. We couldn't decide on what to order so we shared both the Spaghetti and meatballs (worth every extra dollar to add as many meatballs as possible)and the Chicken Cutlets (Pollo Milanese). Both were simple options but the ingredients shined on their own. Everything from the sauce, the pasta, the chicken and the meatballs were perfectly cooked and homemade tasting. In my Italian vacation dreams, I would never have thought to go to Napoli. But if this is even close to the quality of food there, it's gone to the top of my list of foodie destinations. Restaurant Fiorella is hands down one of the best Italian restaurants in Rochester. It is a small little place nestled into the Public Market with big flavor and great service. My husband and I decided to head there for our anniversary on a Wednesday night. It was a spur of the moment choice and we definitely should have made a reservation. It was packed and we waited about 45 minutes for bar seats to open. The hostess was great, she took down our number and called us when seats opened. The bartender who took care of us was personable, attentive, and knowledgeable. She made some great recommendations and didn't steer us wrong. We split a pizza and pasta dish. Both were amazing. The naturally leavened pizza was something I didn't realize I was missing in my life. All pizzas should be made this way. We ended the night with a pastry dessert. I couldn't tell you what it was called but it was like a little pie without a top crust. The taste and texture was phenomenal and the perfect way to end the night! There were only two slight downfalls - it was loud due to it being such a small space and it was very warm. This wouldn't stop me from going back however.
