I dined last night at Rosey's with 3 other people. Everything we ordered was great but I have to recommend HIGHLY the eggplant Parmesan and their meatballs! Both are FANTASTIC. I don't always like eggplant parm - but theirs is thin and crispy and very flavorful. Even my husband LOVED it - and he used to say he doesn't eat eggplant. Whenever I am at a place that has meatballs I always order one for the table to share - and am admittedly hard to impress. Rosey's meatballs are INCREDIBLE. When I was leaving I was telling someone (maybe the owner) that the meatball was wonderful and she told me they are homemade. That was one hundred percent how they tasted and honestly, had they not been already closed when we were leaving, I would have ordered some to take home. If you haven't been and you love a good Parmesan or meatball dish - GO! Also - our server, Mia, was incredibly kind and did a fabulous job of making us feel welcome and helping us order. We were visiting my cousin in Penfield, NY and we really wanted Italian food. My cousin said that there are so many good Italian restaurants in the Rochester area it was impossible to count them. But he wanted to take us to his favorite, which was Rosey's Italian Cafe. We had lasagna, greens (escarole) and beans, and shrimp Parmesan with a side of spaghetti aglio e olio. The portions were HUGE, and yet we all finished every bit of our meals - no leftovers to take home. The food was amazing. Homemade, tasty, wonderful red sauce, everything was so good we just couldn't stop eating. They had to roll us out of there, and we all went home and took a nap. Rosie's is a delightful little restaurant in a little plaza that you migh miss if you're not looking. The dinning room is not elegant but rather homey... Very comfortable if a little loud. Pleasant and efficient service. While the food isn't particularly unique or special it is a perfect fit if you're looking for basic and delicious Italian. Some pretty good items, know others who enjoy coming here. The shrimp french was fantastic. The haddock french was good. Unfortunately the pasta wasn't drained long enough or perhaps another factor in the takeout packing process led to just lemony water in the dish, as opposed to butter, oil or 'sauce'. Pasta was well-cooked al dente but as a result of all the water, had no flavor to it. Really was surprised as a pasta-focused restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient. There's a 3% additional charge to pay by credit card, referred to by staff as a 'cash discount'. This was our first time in Penfield visiting friends and they told us about their favorite little Italian restaurant where they went on their first date! So of course we had to check it out! Wow we loved it! The restaurant is small but so cute and romantic for a first date ! And the food was 5 stars! We had arancini my favorite which I haven't had in ages so good! Then we had chicken Parmesan and eggplant with ziti! So good love the sauce and to top it off Spumoni which I haven't had since I was a kid! A plus! Our server Angie was so welcoming and nice too! I had the opportunity to stop into Rosey's with my family during a recent weekend zip trip to Rochester and was so impressed: + They got 6 of us in on a fairly busy evening with no issues, even though it's a smaller spot. They were super welcoming and accommodating go to the kiddos, and made sure we were all comfortable and had what we needed. + The prices here are great. We had a bottle of Chianti for $19 and the entrees won't set you back too far either. They do a mean takeout game as well it seems and keep up with the volume with no issues. + The food is quite good! I went the eggplant and chicken parm combo with gnocchi on the side. Not the best gnocchi I've had in my life but very serviceable, I just tend to go for a more pillowy soft vibe as opposed to what is served here - a more sturdy style dumpling with ridges. The sauce is not quite as flavorfully robust as I prefer and with a thinner consistency, but that's totally personal preference. I don't know what bread they serve but it is soft and the perfect dipper for your leftover sauce. If you're looking for a good family option in Penfield this should be on your list! read more

Chicken cacciatore was subpar. Sauce was like they just opened a can of tomato sauce and put onions and peppers in it. Chicken was little chunks and few and far to be found. I've been to Rosie's in the past (prepandemic) and really enjoyed it. Today, I had a hankering for some old school Italian and decided to go there. I ordered Lasagna, Broccoli Cheese Soup and a side of meatballs. Oh gosh- won't be back!! Firstly, I would not consider myself to be a low salt cook. I'm pretty liberal with my salt shaker. Everything was sooo salty that I took refuge in my bread and butter and glass of water! Aside from the salt, the quality of the lasagna and the meatballs was ok, but nothing to write home about. The lasagna had oil/grease pooling in it. The soup was horrendous. I know, broccoli cheese isn't exactly Italian, but I do expect Italians to know how to cook. No joke, I think they used powdered cheese, or some kind of instant soup. Again, ridiculously salty. When I concluded I could not eat anything else of my entree due to overwhelming salt and/or grease, I decided to open my little package of saltines that came with the soup. I spat them out because they were soft and stale! It's too bad about this place. It used to be quite good. read more

Yum!! We picked up a wonderful Saturday night dinner from Rosey's, heroically still open during this quarantine. We placed our order through Yelp for later evening pick up, and they made it so easy. The staff wear masks and gloves and bring your order to your car, os they make sure everyone is protected while also able to support their establishment. Our food was delicious. We had their chicken French (full of lemony taste!) and veal Parmesan. The portions are large and the taste very good. We started with garlic bread and side salads. The homemade Italian dressing is light and lovely, but the garlic bread with cheese doesn't hold up great after a drive home - we'll need to try it when we can dine in again. This review is for take-out; physical restaurant and/or staff not included!! To start, this is one of the places that actually gets your order right when you do takeout! I've noticed that many places mess it up-Rosey's did not. We had a pretty big order too. Thank you! Food wise, it was good! Portions are huge. In all honesty, my aunt and I were not super impressed though. Don't get me wrong, it was not bad in the slightest, I just didn't think it was anything special. I had rigatoni with vodka sauce. After a few bites, I thought that maybe adding shake parm would make it a bit more "wow"? It didn't do too much though. I am happy to come back, but think I will order something else besides the vodka sauce. It's always hit or miss for me! But.. we got FREE BREAD! A lot of it. And it tasted absolutely wonderful. Thank you! I had leftovers for breakfast the next day. Only reason I'm not giving 5/5 was simply because my aunt and I both agreed we weren't blown away by our dishes. Old school, Rochester style Italian, on steroids. Home cooking in a little re-purposed house, with the owners on premises as hostess and chef. The beans and greens are the best I've ever had, and the red sauce is award-winning. Service is friendly, and although the restaurant is small, they move the patrons through, so there is little wait, although I recommend a reservation. Great value too. Just sublime. read more

Finally came to take drink order & edited another 10 minutes before that arrived. And on it goes. It was almost 6:45 before our order was taken. Finally got our good at about 7:05. I ordered Fra Diavlo. It was Horrible! It included small frozen shrimp, slices of frozen fake crab and frozen fish. The only thing fresh and good was the angel hair pasta on the bottom. I love their Italian Wedding soup - but unfortunately they hardly ever have it as an offering. We walked in on a Friday night, no reservation but thought it would be ok as it wasn't even 5:30 yet ... wow, we were not correct! It is a small place and was already packed. It didn't matter though as the hostess quickly found us a spot to sit. The food was amazing - I had sausage Cacciatori, my wife had the chicken Pizzaiola and my daughter had the manicotti. Omg this is our 3rd and never last...Tonight I had to ba bang shrimp And I'm still raving about it and on top of that I had their lasagna and their sauce is definitely second to none it is phenomenal. We both had a glass of wine it was like a half a bottle each. LOL My fiancé had a side salad that was huge and then she had a egg plant Appetizer Which was like five beautiful thin pieces just exactly like she likes it, It look like a meal to me.. And she had rigatoni's with oil. I missed the lemon ice last time as I've never had it before and I asked the waitress right away when we got served to make sure that they save some lemon ice. And she did and it was delicious very refreshing. With all that's going in the world. We decided to order take out from a restaurant we had never eaten from before. We weren't disappointed here. The food was awesome and enough to feed an army. I was craving chicken french and this was truely delicious.( I normally very picky about it) They give you lots of the juice which I love, the pasta doesnt get dry. And it's so big it's a meal fit for 2. My husband loved his chicken alfredo and also has some for tomorrow. Dont let that garlic bread foul ya! It was awesome! I dont think I could get food here again without that bread. And finally the Arancini. Not what I was expecting, but they were still good. There are veggies in the which I wasnt expecting. Local business. Had been there a couple of years ago. Got carry out last week because tired of driving out to victor to go to the chain pseudo Italian restaurant the kids like. Service was quick and easy. Called order in. Pulled up, someone came out, got my name, then came out. They had mask, gloves, etc... and apologized for making me wait a whopping 2 min... Sauce was good. I liked it a lot... and ate a lot because the kids unfortunately did not - they have gotten used to that sweet fake sauce from that restaurant with unlimited fillers like salad and breadstick. Portion size was excellent ie big, on par with competitors like the 2 Italian restaurants across the street from each other in ER. For the cost though, a much better bargain as it is less expensive at Rosey's. I will order again. And pretend to buy orders for the kids, so I have "leftovers". read more

IMHO, their red sauce couldn't be more bland. We've tried eating there several times at the behest of others. Disappointed every time.

Love the food and hard working staff here. Rosey's is a gem on the east side of the city!
