HELLOOOOO BREADSTICKS. Fiorella's is a super cosy and quaint Italian restaurant located on the edge of Newton and Waltham. Not only is there ample parking, but there's a free valet service, as well. My SO and I have declared this to be our favorite local hotspot. The service is friendly, the food is tasty, and the ambiance is warm and inviting. Walking in, there's a coat rack (super convenient) so you can leave winter at the door. There's not a dedicated waiting space, and if there's wait -- you don't have much standing room. The kitchen opens up to the front dining room, so you can see your food being made or your pizzas being fired. There's also a bar area in the center and more seating space in the back. The food is good! I would say its on par to a few North End restaurants without the North End price tag. The breadsticks are to die for and I love the house marinara they serve with it; we always get seconds. My favorite thing to get is the Carne Trio pizza; the flatbread crust is rich and fluffy and the toppings are super tasty. For $9, it's the best value on the menu. The pastas are pretty good, as well. I like the Frutti di Mare and Baby Clams pasta. There's usually enough for me to get full and take it home for lunch the next day. Pro-Tip: Make a reservation. Spacious inside with outside patio seating. If you are seated in the front of the restaurant, you can peep the action going on in the kitchen. For starters, garlic flatbread with an amazing marinara sauce, thick and flavorful. We were a party of 6 and they gave each couple their own. Got the sampler platter (Misto) to share, a caprese salad and a Caesar salad with anchovies ($2 extra). The Misto was good; came with calamari, stuffed peppers parm (so good), and wrapped mozzarella (toasted ravioli). AGAIN, the amazon marinara sauce. ALL PORTIONS ARE GENEROUS. Definitely made for sharing. Pesce Amatriciana - sooo good. Marinara sauce with a hint of spiciness. I didn't care much for the haddock in this plate. Scallops, baby clams and shrimps were plentiful. You can choose house made pasta for extra $2 I believe. Fusilli Bolognese - also excellent! Chicken Lazario - I would never thought I'll pick a pasta and pesto dish but this is surprisingly good. Consistently delicious food at acceptable prices keep bringing me and my SO back, until we find something better that isn't Capital Grille priced. It's worth mentioning they are one of the few places in the area that accepts Phantom Gourmet gift cards! After countless visits I'm finally writing an in-depth review. (Maybe I should sign up for their under the radar rewards program? Buy-in is steep for $350+ for first $25 off reward. But definitely doable if you go with a large group.) I completely disagree with this location as a romantic or an intimate setting since you can't make a reservation for less than 6 people. This place is extremely child friendly; so that could be a great thing if you're a parent, or somewhat annoying if you're like me. AMBIANCE Beautifully decorated interior oozing Italian villa charm. During their rush hour they also offer valet to deal with the craziness of parking in their small parking lot. Often you will see cars strewn along the side of the street in front of the restaurant. The interior is decorated with lovely rustic cookware and lovely decor. The kitchen is partially visible so it's cool if you're sitting in the front you can see them at work. They have a front section of seating split into the left and right along with back portion of seating near the restrooms. Nestled in between is a bar separated by the spiral shaped hedges. Even the bathrooms are classy, labeled with their signature font. As mentioned they are overly child friendly, to the point where it may actually damper the experience for other patrons. SERVICE We've had different servers each time we've visited with groups ranging from 2 to 5, so unfortunately this aspect is not as consistently as great as the food. One instance we ordered 1 Arancini and my SO loves to make this joke (I cringe each time) where he says "We were so unsatisfied (looking at empty plate), that we insist you bring us another until we are satisfied!" The server took him literally and actually put in another order. We had to awkwardly decline the second serving. My SO noted that this was the first time in the 15 years it had ever happened. (He's since stopped making this joke.) The second time we dined here for our 5 year anniversary as a last minute decision at around 9PM on a Wednesday. We expected the restaurant to be mostly empty (and it was), so it'd be easy to dine in a more intimate setting. We arrive and the host leads us to a table in the middle of the back section of seating, sandwiched between 2 extremely loud groups. One table of 4 with 2 adults and 2 mischievous children. One table of 6 young professionals who looked like they were having a mini-reunion over the last drops of their bottomless wine, talking loudly reminiscing back on their good ol' college years. I hinted to the server, this is a LOUD area and I even had to repeat myself 3 times because he had a hard time hearing me over the other groups. In an effort to brush me off he just said, "Don't worry they will be gone soon" referring to the group of 6. Nope, they lingered for about another hour until they finally paid their bill and said their goodbyes. Now the big troublemaker was the table of kids who needed to be distracted by cartoons blaring loudly on full blast (prior to their meal arriving). I had hoped they were just finishing up too. Noooooo, they just began their meal and wreaking havoc. I had enough and directly approached the server to move us to a more intimate area. I understand that he wants to keep us in his section so he can get our tips, but that meant we only had a choice of 4 other tables that put us still 1 table away from the loud groups. At one point the kids were running around the table and managed to play with the light switch so for a second we were all sitting in darkness. The adults just said a halfhearted sorry and later on the GM came out. I thought great, he's going to speak to these folks. Instead he spent the rest of the time joking jovially with these patrons and the kids (so he probably knew them well). Anyway, after we distanced ourselves we enjoyed the rest of our night. FOOD - What haven't we tried on the menu at this point? Worth mentioning that their bread sticks with signature marinara sauce is so tasty! Appetizers (~$7-13) unless you're extremely hungry, you can just skip this since the servers are attentive at refilling those bread sticks. - Misto - great way to sample 3 of their appetizers: Toasted Ravioli, Stuffed Peppers Parmigiana & Calamari Fritti. I love them all except the toasted ravioli, which is more of a take it or leave it deal. - Rosemary Shrimp Toscano - 5 shrimps soaked in the buttery, tangy lemon sauce perfection with 2 crostini Entrees - you know it's good when you look forward to the leftovers for lunch the next day! I don't give the 5-star rating too often, but last night we had a phenomenal meal and experience. From the moment we dropped the car off in the parking lot (it was full and they were doing valet-only -- free-of-charge), we felt warmly welcomed. We have been trying to go there for years, but we'd heard that the wait is usually long. On this night we went on the late side and were told it would be 20 minutes, and proceeded to the bar to grab a drink. Two minutes later, and before we could order, our name was called and we were seated. The space is a cozy, Italian trattoria-like space with an open kitchen. It feels warm and welcoming; the epitome of a neighborhood Italian joint that every city should have. My one knock is that the lighting was a bit on the bright side. I thought they might bring a touch to provide a bit more "atmosphere." Our server, Zoe, was fantastic! She was lovely, warm, really genuine; just excellent! We asked her advice on wines and she admitted limited knowledge and that she was a whiskey drinker. I asked her if we might sample the wine and she offered to bring one that we were interested in, and also offered another to try. She could not have been more accommodating (though we settled on a completely different bottle.) The food...was... phenomenal! The bread and marinara they bring to the table was super! The marinara is a great version; very flavorful and delicious. The bread, crispy thin strips with butter and garlic, were addictive and a nice change from the usual bread one might typically receive. We decided to split a first course of the Shrimp Rosemary Toscano and a small Roasted Beet Salad. The shrimp was four nice sized shrimp, perfectly roasted in the oven in garlic, lemon, rosemary and oil/butter. They were super, if slightly acidic; a great starter. The salad, with the usual beets, greens, goat cheese and a raspberry vinaigrette, should have been nothing special yet it was simply excellent and among the best we've had. The beets were cut into small chunks as was the goat cheese. It was surprisingly sublime. Our entrees of Scallops Lemoncello and Short Rib Milanese were simply superb. My wife and I devoured these. She thoroughly enjoyed her scallops and I found my short rib dish one of the best I've had. The meat was full-apart tender, tasty and a good-sized portion. It was accompanied by a delicious puree of mashed potatoes and green beans with almonds and dried cranberries. I could have bathed in the demi sauce that covered the potatoes and meat. We usually don't get dessert and coffee, but we were leisurely celebrating a birthday. We tried the cannoli and cappuccino. Cannolis, for me, are judged against the gold standard (Mike's Pastry in Boston's North End.) It was surprisingly good with a really crisp shell and filling, we were told by our sever Zoe, that is made in house. It was just the right size for us to share a sweet bite. The cappuccino was a large cup, well-presented and piping hot with with a frothy head. If you couldn't already tell, we enjoyed our visit to Fiorella's very much and we agreed it was one of the better meals, and restaurant experiences, that we've had in a while. My wife and I are frequent customers and almost always have a great experience. We were very disappointed this weekend by our pre dinner experience at the bar. We (and at least 2 other patrons) felt very unwelcome by the bartender. She was unfriendly; refused to acknowledge her waiting customers; and made sarcastic and borderline rude comments to us when we tried to ask her a question. To be fair, the bar area can be quite busy 6-7:30pm but the best bartenders find ways to make the chaos nearly invisible to their customers. It was so bad, we left immediately after dinner just to avoid the bar experience when normally we would have stayed for a few drinks and dessert. I paid $23 for a Margarita pizza and was very disappointed to see how bad this pizza was. The box was soaked in water and almost ripped from the other side. The crust was so wet you couldn't even lift the slices to eat. I called the store to let them know and they asked me to drive back to return the food so they could see it first and then make me another one. Big disappointment! read more

Perfect birthday dinner. After spending hours on Yelp searching for the perfect, authentic Italian place, my girlfriend stumbled upon this gem. Fiorella's is exactly what I was looking for. The ambiance was very intimate and homey. The dim lighting and the huge open kitchen tied the whole place together. But the best part was, without a doubt, the food. First off, the complimentary bread came with some of their homemade marinara. That could have been my meal. We started with an order of calamari and the arancini. Wow. The calamari was crisp and tender, not chewy like some other Italian places. It also came with some fried pickled hot peppers mixed in that provided a nice, vinegary kick. The arancini was perfectly cheesy and came with more of their amazing marinara poured over it. For my entree, I ordered the chicken gnocchi fra diavolo. To die for. The gnocchi was tender, but not mushy and the chicken was extremely juicy. The sauce had a nice kick, but it wasn't overly spicy. My girlfriend loved her chicken parmigiana and had enough for leftovers. Overall, it was an amazing meal and we all hope to return again soon. read more

Pleasently surprised. I'm a young guy with Italian roots, so I know good food, good Italian food, that is. Fiorella's is an Italian restaurant in the Boston area that delights at modest prices. The food here was delicious and left me with a great impression. Specific items I liked were the fried, cheese stuffed raviolis and the haddock dish! They were a treat! The rice on the haddock dish was on the plain side, but overall the dish was excellent. The filet itself is a healthy size. It is also paired with a lemon wedge, which I appreciate. Customer service was a non-issue at Fiorella's. All of the servers I noticed seemed to be in a good mood, and happy to help. I would recommend this restaurant. The parking lot was bit tight. It was very busy on the Thursday I was here, around lunch hour. Give this restaurant a try. It's worth the time. I had a pleasurable experience, and you might too. read more

Fantastic find! My husband was craving Italian and we did not want to drive far, so we came here and were thrilled. Dennis is an amazing server, and the entire experience from the ambiance to the dessert has been superb. Service and food great; we started with barrel aged Manhattan and Sangria; arancini and caprese appetizers. All yummy! The entrees--veal parm, lemon chicken, lasagna, and bolognese were all pronounced by our party members to be superb. Fiorella's has been my favorite restaurant in the Boston area for my entire life. I can't believe I haven't posted a review until now. There's no reason to go all the way to the north end when the best Italian food is right in Newton. The staff and chefs are amazing. My all time favorite dish is the lemon chicken but this time around I added scallops instead of chicken and it was out of this world. The cheesy bread you get at the table before dinner is better then any bread I've had at a restaurant. The atmosphere is perfect here too and in the past few years they opened up more seating which was needed because this place is so popular. Couldn't recommend this place more highly. Prepandemic this restaurant was fantastic, but things went downhill rapidly after Covid hit. The bread they serve with dinner is absolutely delicious. I ordered an arancini ball for an appetizer which was very filling and had a wonderful chicken parmigiana dinner. During Covid, I ordered takeout and the food was just not up to par with what I was used to. The parking lot is tight and it can be tough to find street parking near the restaurant. I'm willing to give them one more chance, but I'm in no rush to go back anytime soon. read more

Forget Olive Garden. Go to Fiorella's for real good Italian food. You can even buy a bottle of their signature marina sauce! I really wanted to try this sauce so we started off with the arancini balls, which were covered in marina sauce. Those arancini balls were huge and filling!! Crispy on the outside, with cheesy rice inside. We also had the caprese. For my main course, I had the seafood fra diavalo. The sauce was really spicy, but delicious. I've had this dish many times in the North End, and I gotta say Fiorella's does a pretty good job. You get a generous amount of seafood over linguine. This is probably the best Italian food I've ever had. After making a huge move from Los Angeles to Boston, I'm glad this was the first restaurant we visited. The service was incredible, seated right away. Our server was attentive (apologise I forgot her name) and accommodating. The calamari is a must, very fresh & the sauce is delicious! I ordered the gnocchi and the portion size is pretty big- I would say made for two, unless you are extremely hungry. Wowza! Great Italian and Mediterranean food for a great price, right on the border of Waltham and what they call Newtonville, but we all really know it's Waltham.... (okay I'm lying, since they have a 617 number). But it's a small hole in the wall place across from the Calvary Cemetery, on North Street. They've got parking, a patio, and a cute interior that reminds me of a cottage. I came here for lunch since I had a restaurant.com certificate that needed to be used, and they had absolutely no issues accepting my certificate. Their bread, SCRUMPTIOUS!!! Well it's not really bread per say.... they're more like thin bread stick slices, I can't really describe them. You'll hafta just see for yourself... and nice and hot and fresh marina sauce you dip these suckers into, and you'll devour the entire basket in no time! For my main entree, I had the Salmon Lemoncello which was a delightful blend of risotto, salmon in bite sized pieces, asparagus, capers, and leeks cooked in a lemoncello reduction. It felt like the Mediterranean just jumped into my mouth as soon as that fork hit my lips. Too bad I only had 45 minutes for lunch, otherwise I would have totally had a piece of their tiramisu and a cup of coffee. I'm just so glad I found this place. I'm so excited about them, that I'm even recommending that we get them to cater our First Week instead of the overrated Chateau that everyone seems to be infatuated with. A return is a must! What a great find! We went to Fiorella's last night for dinner and really enjoyed it. The place is quaint, without being too cramped like Italian restaurants in the North End (those are nice too, but sometimes I just like my space =). The restaurant has low lighting, but still enough to read the menu just fine. They have a nice wine list and a fabulous Riesling for those with a sweeter palate. (: To start for food, they provide delicious toasted flatbread, some topped with parmesan and their incredible marinara to dip. After trying the marinara, I considered changing my menu choice and going with something that had that it was so good! We ordered the pear and gorgonzola flatbread as an app. This was okay, but we all agreed we wouldn't get it again. The balsamic glaze was too strong and I couldn't even taste the gorgonzola. For mains, we had the goat cheese salad with scallops, fettucine fiore, and baby clams. All were very, very good and though I wouldn't say the portions are humungous, we all went home with leftovers. One thing I really appreciated was the proportion of items to pasta--it was perfect! So many times there is just a ton, way too much, of pasta compared to the main ingredients, but the fettucine fiore did a very nice job at balancing those. The service was good and bad. Regarding tentativeness and timelines, our waitress was very good. However, she had a little bit of a snarky attitude, which wasn't pleasant to deal with. One word needed for this place: DELICIOUS. I had the Stuffed Peppers Parmigiana to start. It was so damn good. Great taste and a good size for an appetizer. My friend had Rosemary Shrimp Toscano, and had nothing but great things to say about it. As an entree, I tried the Short Ribs Milanese. It was seriously one of the best rib dishes I've ever had. The ribs were packed with flavour, the mashed potatoes were delicious, and the green beans (mixed with cranberries, almonds, and onions) were unbelievably good. I'm still enjoying the taste of it :) My friend had Chicken Broccoli Alfredo, and again had great things to say. Such good flavour, juicy chicken, and fresh broccoli. Fiorella's is very good, based on the meals my family ordered. After receiving a recommendation for lunch, my family visited for the first time several days ago. We were happily pleased with both our food and the service. The breadsticks and special house marinara were very good. Each of our meals was also extremely delicious, including the chicken parmesan which one member of my family ate every single bite of!! The portions were fair, but not generous, at reasonable prices. Our server was spectacular. He was very attentive, checking in with us frequently throughout our meal, refilling our drinks as needed, and wrapping our extras (what few we had left) immediately and with kindness. He was very nice and very hardworking, and deserved praise for his efforts, which we gave as we left. The only problem we experienced was that we could not be seated until everyone in our party was there. One member of my family arrived a few minutes early, when the majority of the restaurant was vacant as it was slightly early for lunch, but he was not seated because the hostess insisted the whole party should be present before doing so. I think I have previously written a Fiorella's review that was excellent. Fiorella's became our place to go for family celebrations and Sunday afternoons. However, there were several things that made us unhappy the last time we visited (January 2023). First, we always get a bottle of the house wine. The house wine used to be Block Nine. We liked it and it was reasonable. We were informed by our server that the house wine had changed. However, we were not informed that the new house wine was about twice as expensive as the old one. We purchased 2 bottles and the bill was quite a shock. Second, three of us in the party that day are obsessed with the toasted ravioli. One serving didn't go very far among us so I ordered another one. Our server said "OH, you want more?" She said the same thing when we asked for more garlic bread. Third, one of us is a very picky eater who always ordered pasta with pesto. "No pesto", we were informed. OK, but isn't pesto kind of an Italian staple? I guess not. They don't offer it anymore. Fourth, I have grown to loathe the woman (I assume she's a manager) who noisily comes and clears the table with a grim look on her face when she feels a party has been there long enough. Hey, it was a family birthday and we don't get together all that often. PLUS we had just spent over $200 on the check, which may not sound like a lot, but one of us only got an app and the other one who was pesto-denied had pasta with butter, not exactly an expensive entrée.
