The Team finally was able to break free from work and celebrate my belated birthday and the end of a project with Fire & Oak. We have heard a lot about this so there was fairly high expectations. I was somewhat impressed with the overall ambiance and setting but the food was good but nothing in particular Ambiance is one of the best in good ol' Montvale. There is a 'speakeasy' of some sort bar in the front and then fairly intimate dining spaces that brings back memories of the many restaurants on the Lower East Side, NYC. Staff is fairly attentive and friendly to make the experience enjoyable Menu is a one pager offering many types of dishes from sushi, steaks, to pastas. Prices are $$$ so expect to spend a little more Ordered - Truffle Parmesan Fries (3.5/5). This was a-ok. A little too cheesy but is good with low intake - Cocktail Shrimps (3/5). A bit 'cooked' and not as fresh as I had expected - Seared Maryland Style Crab Cake (4/5). Pretty good as it is soft to the palate and melts slowly when eaten - 24oz Bone-In "Cowboy" Rib Eye (4/5). A bit too charcoal-ry for my tasting. I felt like I was eating coal. The steak was cooked perfectly though and tasted consistent to other steaks I've had - Carrot Cake (4/5). Like any other carrot cake I give a 3.5 stars as the ambiance and feel is excellent though the food is like any other restaurant. No true differentiation or local favorites read more

Was so excited to try this place I was so dissapointed . I ordered the prime rib, it had to be the worst prime rib I've seen and for $44 I didn't even eat a bite of it. I ordered it med rare when came out to our table looked grey and over cooked took a cut at it was all fat. Our waiter "NJ" what it said on the bill was not very friendly very cold and off putting. I will never be back, for a upscale restaurant the prime rib was terrible better option at Texas roadhouse and thats sad. read more

It' looked very pretty, but was pretty bland and mediocre. Tuna tartar was the high point. All the food looks great, and is very attractively plated, however the dishes seemed more on par with the quality of an Applebees in terms of flavor profiles, just lacking depth and seasoning. The pizza does have a great crust, and the margarita was good for bar food, but the Fun Guy was just covered in too much balsamic reduction that did not have a high quality flavor and was rather overpowering. Thai tuna Sushi roll had interesting texture combination, but flavor was just not there... Short Ribs again had a very nice presentation but lacking depth of flavor.... And the special Fire and Smoke cocktail just tasted like a watered down Manhattan... For the prices this place is charging, the flavor profiles of the food do not match equally. It felt like a fancy version of Applebees, not a bad thing, but not worth what is being charged. The dim lighting was also a bit excessive, and the noise level was headache inducing.... It was lunchtime on Tuesday July 9, 2024 and the restaurant wasn't that busy. We were here to celebrate my sister's battle with breast cancer, her last radiation treatment. We had 6 people in our group but 2 had to leave. We were seated in the back area. Our waiter was a young man. He came to table and said he'd give us a few minutes to look at menu and would bring us all water. I asked for lemons. He came back with water/lemons and told us the specials for lunch. He asked if we'd like to put our drink orders in so we did. He returned with drinks a few minutes later and we placed our food orders. I was impressed with the young man that he was able to take our order and not write them down. Sometime later he and another man brought out our food. They had gotten everything right except my sister ordered sweet potato fries. He apologized and said that he would bring the sweet potato fries out in a couple of minutes. He returned with a new set of fries. We ate our food and were waiting for our waiter to return to check on us. Several minutes passed and finally or waiter arrived. Because he was gone for so long one lady in our party pulled him to the side to talk to him. After they spoke he came to table and apologized to our party for not being attentive enough to our needs. He explained that he was waiting on other patrons in the front of the restaurant, he was covering his area and someone else's that had not come to work that day. We were the only ones in the back room after a party next to us left. Overall I enjoyed my food I can't speak for everyone else. The ambiance was cozy and the restaurant was clean. read more

Finally found a decent hang out place. Great for dates, girls night, or even sitting alone at the bar...as I did. So many places around here are either super upscale or grungy irish pubs. This place is more my vibe. Loved it's tremendous spirits options. Bartender made me a lovely Manhattan. Surprisingly busy for a Wednesday evening. Music was perfect volume so not sure about those the reviewers complaints. Maybe it's a different situation on weekends. 12-9-23 7pm I have never had better service than I had today by our waiter Fabian. - Keep in mind i worked in the service industry 10 years. He was EXCEPTIONAL!!! He made our night great, everyone around us was enjoying their time thanks to how attentive he was. Food and drinks were awesome ! But service was PERFECT !! My only complaint was the gentleman at the front desk (Hostess/Manager). We walked in ask to sit at the bar, he barely answered yes- very rude. We went to the bar but it was too busy so we went back to Mr. Personality Manager and he said no tables available tonight at all :/ We went back to the bar and then Fabian told us - when we were about to leave that the side tables were open to first come first served- which was a great relief. We ordered drinks and a table open up within 10 minutes. I wish the manager was more welcoming or even offered us to table one of the sides tables instead of saying no tables. This Manager is not a welcoming face when you arrive- Stuck up and very unfriendly. First time here in New Jersey and decided to stop by this restaurant while staying at the Marriot Courtyard, and it was spectacular. We started off with some drinks, the usual, while we scrolled through the menu. Everything looked fantastic and we decided on the Colossal Shrimp Cocktail with Horseradish Sauces for the appetizer. For entrees, we went with BBQ Pork Ribs with Horseradish Slaw and Herbed French Fries, BBQ Organic Chicken Lollipops with blue cheese ranch and celery (the MOST crisp I have ever had, no strings and super crunchy), and for the little one a Kids Bacon Cheeseburger with Fries. They do have a kids menu, which is highly convenient! The Colossal Shrimp Cocktail with Horseradish Sauces were a nice start to our dinner as we waited for our food to roll out. The BBQ ribs were fall off the bone, piping hot, and so sweet and tangy from the sauce. The coleslaw was a refreshing mustard like bite that paired amazingly with it, and the fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp, a must have to go with ribs. The BBQ Organic Chicken Lollipops with blue cheese ranch were tender and juicy, made from chicken drumsticks so it was easy to eat, and the blue cheese ranch was creamy and not overpowering like most are, still a stinky cheese punch but nothing out of the ordinary. The little one thoroughly enjoyed his burger and fries. For dessert (this is the most amazing part) we ordered Crème Brûlée with (what I believe is) Goose Berry and Blackberry Reduction and the little one decided on Chocolate Lava Cake. The crème brûlée was just about the best I have ever had in my entire life. It was silky smooth just like crème should be. Not to mention the tartness from the Gooseberry and Blackberry reduction, paired extravagantly with the vanilla creaminess going on below the sugar brûlée crust on top. Tastefully divine. We got 2 thumbs up of approval from the kiddo who ordered the chocolate lava cake, he didn't even want to share it! What I don't have pictured, is the key lime pie martini, which tasted EXACTLY like key lime pie. And you think you would taste alcohol but it was the most subtle hint ever. If you liquified a key lime pie into a drink and gave me the martini I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, it was smooth, rich, and all around GREAT for dessert. We made Fire and Oak one of our go to restaurants a few years ago and they have never disappointed. I recently discovered they had opened an outdoor area and decided to check it out. We arrived tonight and despite the unpredictable weather, we had our usual marvelous time. 'The Park' at Fire and Oak as it is cleverly titled was very nice. The owners have recreated a very comfortable, lovely outside dining experience (see photos). You have a choice of being more formal with a table and chairs under tent or being more casual with a picnic table. Both areas were well spread out and welcoming. My friend and I started out with two ginger bourbon 'Arnold Palmers' and the men opted for beer- Industrial Wrench IPA. We of course ordered a platter of truffle fries to share. They are so good and addictive! You can't just stop at one. For dinner we had the swordfish, the salmon, rib eye and the ribs. Everything was seasoned perfectly and just simply delicious. The staff was of course overly accommodating but not annoying or interruptive like at some establishments. We had Justin tonight and he was as always superb and very charming. One thing I did notice from other tables is Fire and Oak is now doing a 'detroit style' pizza. From the looks of it, I think we will be giving that a shot at our next visit, which will be very soon! read more

The Pros: Went to celebrate my birthday at this location last weekend. My best friend and I went for dinner. I will say, the restaurant ambiance was beautiful. Because we had a big meal earlier, we just ordered a bunch of apps and the lump crab California roll. The roll was fresh, but just ok. The apps we ordered were the bbq chicken lollipops, truffle fries, and fried calamari which were pretty good. The Cons: We were irritated about the wait time we had to endure from the time we ordered to the time we received the food. Let me remind you we only ordered 3 apps, 1 sushi roll, and a salad. 2 of the apps we ordered along with 2 drinks was given to our waitress shortly after we were seated. We got the massive order of fries about 20 mins after the order was placed. The drinks came shortly after the fries. The waitress, who was always nice, had taken our order for the other items ,because by this time as I could see I was already waiting a long time for the other dishes. She said she would check and then We then waited about another 30 mins for the chicken. The rest of our order came about 15 mins after receiving the chicken. The food was good, but the wait turned us off. I also noticed that other tables around us were getting seated and served there appetizers at faster rates compared to our table which definitely dampened the mood. $150 just to have spent most of the time waiting to eat rather than enjoying the food and ambiance. I really had high hopes for this place because I'm getting married next year and was considering spaces to book and they were at the top of the list before this experience. read more

I've dined here several times, and love their lounge, Manhattan-esque atmosphere. My most recent visit was this past Father's Day, because it was a Sunday, my father was able to take advantage of the Roasted King Cut Prime Rib special. Our table also ordered Fire & Oak BBQ Pork Ribs, a Market Greens salad with grilled chicken, and the Aged Blue Cheese Crusted Filet Mignon. We all thoroughly relished in our choices. The service on the other hand has been very hit or miss. On this visit we had a younger, very absent minded waiter who constantly forgot things such as our bread; drinks from the bar, drink refills at request, the list goes on- my order was incorrect, but I gave him an opportunity to correct it. We were then left waiting upwards of 15 mins after finishing our meal to see him for our check. At that point we didn't even want dessert. Where to begin... I love everything on the menu! From the dark lighting with a chic vibe to the extensive alcohol list to the great food... It's a must try if you're around bergen county. My favorites would be the goat cheese and beet salad (red and yellow beets mixed with a tangy dressing with some micro greens and goat cheese), scalloped potatoes (wow.. So rich and decadent), thai tuna crunch rolls (tuna with macadamia nuts!) and their key lime pie is tangy with a hint of sweet. One of my favorite drinks from the menu is a glass of Salmon Creek which is a good price and gets you tipsy fast! The service is really nice aswell. Come early or make reservations- they get packed for good reason. The new one in Jersey City wasn't too good. Montvale is where it's at. read more

Had an emergency come up the moment I sat down. I explained to the waitress that I had to leave and left a tip for any troubles. As I was walking out I was accosted by another wait staff questioning where I was going. She said that another party the other night skipped out in the bill. I've voiced these concerns to management and ownership but received a lengthy email stating that they spoke with their staff to correct it however they stand by what they do and represent and how that has made them a success for all these years. I don't like to write scathing reviews. I try to be fair but boy, this was a disaster! So this is my long rant- so if you are in a rush, just scroll down to the final line! Had a group of 7 people in town for a family memorial service and this was the dinner the night before. When we arrived the bar was hopping and it looked fun and lively. We didn't know what to expect since this restaurant was attached to a Courtyard Marriott, but some locals Face it a thumbs up so we were going to give it a go. The dining room was still not too crowded- it was early, 6:45. We ordered our drinks and a bunch of shareable apps which all came out in good time. We enjoyed the gargantuan bowl of truffle fries and the sushi, but their take on a classic wedge salad wasn't up to par. It was actually called a BLT Wedge Salad, so we thought it would somehow resemble that- it was bib lettuce with a bit of bacon, big slices of tomato and just a smattering of bleu cheese. The kitchen forgot to dress it, so we had to flag down the server which took a good 10 minutes, as things were starting to get busy around us. The dressing came and we mixed it into the salad and it was very bland. No salt or pepper on the table. Flagged the server again to get the seasonings and 10 minutes later we could finally eat the salad! Not a good start. We knew it wasn't going to be a classic wedge, but they really should have left well enough alone. It didn't have that cold crunch of iceberg (this os the ONLY salad that iceberg is acceptable, btw! The bleu cheese wasn't flavorful either and the whole experiment just didn't work. Now the restaurant was starting to fill up so we wanted to get our orders in before they got crazy. No problem. The server was attentive and took care of all of our orders while we were finishing up our apps and drinks. Maybe things would take a turn for the better. Then... 30 minutes comes and goes, 45 minutes comes and goes... the table of 8 next to us which sat down as we were ordering the entrees gets their entrees. The table of 6 behind us, who came in even after them, got their entrees. An hour...nothing. Server is nowhere. Asked another server if she could find our server and/or check on our food. This was getting ridiculous and everyone at the table was getting very antsy and upset -as we watched meal after meal being brought out to other tables. We were really hungry now. Finally the server reappeared and we asked her what was going on with our entrees which were ordered an hour and 15 minutes ago, now. She said she would check, As if we just gave her that idea! She returned and said the kitchen was working on them now (!) and ran off to give a table their check. Five minutes later 3 people came out of the kitchen carrying all of our entrees! Unfortunately, 4 out of 7 of them were Luke warm to cold. Vegetables practically raw, salmon dry and overcooked....Maybe sitting there waiting to be served for a while? The prime rib was cooked ok and that was one of the keepers, even though it was cold. Next, my 96 year old mother got up from the table (sans walker!) and went to find the manager! He came back to the table with her but looked like a deer in the headlights! We needed to send back 4 of the entrees and at this point we were so mad and not about to wait for the kitchen to remake anything. It would be midnight! So we wrapped up what little there was and we got the check for what we actually consumed and that was the end of it. The manger never made any excuses for the bad service or food problems nor did he apologize for the overall bad experience we had. Wow! That was unexpected actually. I don't know, I have been involved in the food and hospitality industries for years and I always try to be understanding, it's a very hard business - but this was out of control. I am also very empathetic of the fact that since COVID, many restaurants are understaffed and sometimes the staff they do have is not trained. The issue is, if that is in fact the case, then 1) Why are they filling the restaurant to capacity if they KNOW they can't handle it? and 2) Why have all the menu prices gone up this much? I know...supply chain issues aside , If they are understaffed, that means none of these higher prices are going toward hiring and training good people and paying them a living wage. It is simply bad management from the top down and It's mind-boggling and very short sighted. It is surely a death knoll for any business that can't adapt to the new normal. So to make a long story short: this experience left a really bad taste in my mouth (bad pun) and I just can not recommend Fire & Oak. read more

Fire & Oak is one of my go to places. It's great for all occasions. I've been there for lunch, dinners, celebrations etc. During lunch it's a nice calm place to grab a bite over a nice conversation. In the evening this place is jumping! It gets pretty loud so you'll have to raise your voices to hear each other. If that's not your scene, make sure you request for a table in the back. It will defiantly be a lot more quit In the back. I love their Lychee Ginger Martini's they are my favorite of all the lychee martinis I've ever had. If you are up for a seconds ask for the lychee martini the old way. It's delicious. I just can't get enough. Their portions are very large. Defiantly sharing portions. I've tried a lot of their appetizer and they are all pretty good. read more

Enjoyed a great dinner here tonight. Place is so beautiful the decor is really nice rustic and modern at same time . Hip music playing and low lighting puts the scene in a nice vibe. Had the fried calamari and artichoke hearts and it's a very good combo. Side of marinara and a spicy aioli. Very fresh and cooked well. Calamari could of been cooked more crispy and more of the hearts but it was good. We ordered aged blue cheese crusted filet mignon and it was sooo good cheese melted so nice all over the steak. Mignon was tender and nice and pink inside. Potatoes whipped creamy. Spinach was sautéed and tender but touch too much garlic. I ordered the surf and turf special. A nice size fillet mignon which was juicy and nice crust over it. It was paired with a lobster tail stuffed with crab meat. Dish was jammed packed with so much flavor and all was cooked and prepared perfectly. All this was over truffle whipped Yukon potatoes with the same sautéed spinach. Dish was amazing but came out warm not hot which is annoying when they charge 66 dollars for the special . Wait staff were very nice but slow and not attentive enough for the price they charge. Def will be coming back it's a great place. In the lobby of the hotel. Large parking makes it easy. Break the piggy bank before you come. But def try this place worth it for sure read more

Being new to the area after recently starting a new job I had heard of Fire and Oak from many people, all with differing opinions. Most importantly, it sounds as though Fire and Oak is a pretty "happening" place, and is considered to be the "it" place to go in the area. While I mostly hear that it is a fun place to go for drinks, I have also heard that it has quite a variety on the menu ranging from comfort food to sushi. Personally, I have been to Fire and Oak only twice. The first time, on a Thursday evening after work, we left because it was too crowded to find three seats together. The second try was much more successful with a much lighter crowd on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. The decor is trendy and fun although it is a bit dark. The crowd seems to vary from the professional crowd to the middle aged on mid-week date nights. The staff is friendly and responsive, and the drinks are reasonable ($3 for a Blue Moon and $6 for a Sam Adams). While the restaurant/bar is in a hotel, you would never know once you are inside. Definitely a must-go-to if you are in the area and need a pleasant place to grab a bite to eat or drink. read more

This experience was incredibly disappointing. It is located in a hotel parking lot. The interior restaurant decor was nice, but the tabletops looked so run down. It would've definitely been nicer to have a tablecloth to hide all of the wear and scratched off finish on the table. They have a decent sized cocktail, beer and wine menu. The water service was excellent. The staff filled up your glasses (and provided lemons and paper straws) without asking. They didn't rush the group which is helpful when meeting up with friends you haven't seen in a long time. However, when you go out to dinner, you want to enjoy your meal. The appetizers of calamari and bbq chicken lollipops were good. Our entrees, though, were subpar. The sesame tuna salad had a poor presentation and seemed to be thrown together with not many toppings (served with a 1/4 of a small avocado). Another guest in my party ordered the seafood platter with lobster, shrimp, scallops, swordfish and muscles. The shrimp was chewy and the sauce didn't have much taste.
