My husband and I love Japanese cuisine and enjoy trying different restaurants both locally and while traveling. We have been to Fire & Sticks several times, and until tonight, we have always had a good experience. I want to start by saying our server was wonderful. He was friendly, attentive, and constantly making sure we had what we needed. His service was definitely a bright spot in our visit. Unfortunately, the experience with the chef was very disappointing. The chef was rude and did not prepare our food as we requested. We are Southern, and we were raised to say "thank you" when someone provides us with something. Each time we thanked the chef, we never received a simple "you're welcome," which added to the feeling that our table was not valued. The food was not what we have come to expect from Fire & Sticks. The chicken was extremely dry and lacked the flavor and preparation we have enjoyed during previous visits. The shrimp was so salty that I was unable to eat it. The steak was the biggest disappointment. We specifically requested medium rare, but it was cooked well done. The steak was so thin and tough that the texture reminded us of shoe leather. We truly appreciate our server and the effort he made, but unfortunately the food quality and the chef's attitude made this visit a very disappointing one. We hope this was just a one-time experience because we have enjoyed Fire & Sticks in the past, but tonight fell far below our expectations. read more

Full transparency, this wasn't our original dinner destination, but honestly so glad the other place fell through and we came here. Inside was very clean, staff super attentive, and the meal delicious. While not as popular as they used to be, I still think a teppanyaki table dining experience is super fun. I like the entertainment and theatrics part of it all. This time since we came closer to closing, our foursome got a table to ourselves which is even better. Our Chef was very entertaining, friendly, and presented us with a very generous portion. To start we ordered some bottles of cold, filtered sake to share. For my Hibachi Dinner Entree, I ordered the Scallops and Chicken Combination. For the proteins themselves, I got my scallops first. They were varying sizes, but had a good sear on them all. Super buttery and yummy. Chicken was the last protein prepared but once received it was very tasty. As standard, the meal comes with the Japanese clear/onion soup which has a few mushrooms, broth, and some little noddles in it. I love soup so I am always happy with this starter. It was warm, flavorful, and a larger sized bowl than you get at similar places. Next is the salad, for which I selected the robust ginger dressing. It's a basic green salad, but the robust ginger is supposed to be a bit spicier and has a deeper color. Not sure there a was major difference from typical ginger, but I liked it. Up next is my personal favorite, the fried rice. We were given so much fried rice, wow. I was glad to see they still include egg even with prices going up. The rice was super fluffy and flavorful. The zucchini and onions were sautéed nicely in soy sauce and again a huge portion, which makes you feel a bit better to eat it with more rice. They still do the 2 appetizer shrimps here which was a nice surprise. Finally, the sauces. It might be the best part of these places. I kinda feel bad saying yes to every sauce they offer, but I love them all. Ginger, White, Hot Sauce, Teriyaki, and Hot Mustard. I don't know what Japanese restaurants do when they make their Hot Mustard sauce, but it is far superior to any bottled option I have tried from a Grocery store (they are just too horseradishy it's so much more balanced here). Wish I could buy it by the bottle. I also like to mix Sriracha in the White sauce, it cuts down on the sweetness a bit. I ate so much and still had a full to-go box to take from for another meal (honestly two). So while an entree price in the $30 and above range may seem high, you are getting appetizer, entree cooked to order, and another full meal. It's a great (and delicious) deal. Fire and Stick is a little bit of a drive from home for me, but I was extremely satisfied with my meal and recommend! read more

This is by far the best Japanese HIBACHI in the triad. The food is wonderful, portion sizes are well above average, staff and cooks are excellent as well. Anyone that says different apparently doesn't get out much or know the difference between tepanyaki, and teriyaki. read more

We wanted to take our granddaughter to experience a Japanese hibachi restaurant. We read the reviews and this looked good and it was close. We made a reservation, arrived on time, and were seated fairly promptly. The waiting area looked a little worn. It was in need of an update as did the rest of the place. It needs a refresh. The noise level was a bit high but the table next to us had a large birthday group. For dinner we ordered the filet mignon and the filet with chicken combo. The Granddaughter got the kids hibachi chicken. The filet on both plates was very good. The meat and the chicken had a great flavor. I noticed the people next to us got ribeye and it was very thin. It's worth the extra money to upgrade to filet mignon. Also I would skip the combo as the portion of meat is less on it. Our chef wasn't as entertaining as I would've liked but he could cook. The waitress was attentive looking after your drinks and other needs. Overall it wasn't bad. read more

My party got seated fairly quick. The order process started quick and the starting soup was of a higher quality than most other Hibachi restaurants. I got the chicken and steak hibachi with white sauce and spicy sauce. Everything for the order was delicious, and in high quantity. I could barely eat half of it all. The main standouts were the quick service and their spicy sauce had a great kick to it. Overall great Hibachi. They do all the little things right. Great date night. I'm one of those people who can talk to anyone. Luckily the family next to us was likewise. Good food and great service from our chef. I love going here because it's more about the food and less about the shrimp tails flying into the hat or onion volcano. No jokes about the egg roll. Just cook the food. And it was cooked perfectly. Service was meh. I got a glass of wine but finished it and my water well before she came by to fill the water glass. No mention of the second glass.... Did t get it. Never did get any more water. 4 stars for the chef. The server wasn't great but we had a good time. read more

The person that greeted us couldn't seat us - apparently the manager or hostess needs to do that, and they were no where to be found. Our reservation was lost, which could have been a real issue if it was for after 6PM - especially since it was Furniture Market week. There were 3 of us and we each ordered a different dish. And the dining room is spacious with large group seating around the hibachi tables. The portions are very generous and I always leave with plenty of leftovers. This was the first time I have ever been here. I will say the place is beautiful and very clean and laid out very nice. We had a small group of 7 people and we where sat down at a table after all of us had arrived. We all got our soup and salad and then ordered. I had the steak and chicken hibachi and it was cooked to perfection. I had some shrimp as well and they where some of the best I had ever had. The bill really wasn't as bad as I thought for as many people we had. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes hibachi. I absolutely LOVE this place. My family has been coming here for birthdays and Christmas Eve for a few years now. They always accommodate us and we always have a delicious, fun time. This Christmas Eve was no exception. Our server was nice and kind. Our cook was that perfect sarcastic funny you want in the hibachi chef. But most importantly, the food was delish. Of course you start with a soup and salad. Then to the good stuff. Veggies: onions and zucchini. I always get a side of noodles to add to my meal, an additional $4 totally worth it. Then the rice. The service was extremely fast, we were in and out in under an hour. We went for a work outing and we really enjoyed. Our chef had a lot of personality and everything was prepared accurately. We had our soup almost immediately upon sitting down and it was really good. I enjoyed the ginger dressing on the salad. I ordered filet and shrimp as my meal and the filet was tender and plentiful, lots of shrimp too. They kept the white sauce refilled which is obviously of the utmost important. 2 co-workers recommend so we went for date night. Wednesday evening around 6. Did not know what to expect but was seated with a party of 4 (Birthday) and another couple (seasoned visitors). Talked with the other couple and they gave us the run down on how things worked. We ordered the Fillet & Salmon, Fillet & Chicken. Right away we got our drinks, and delicious soup. Our chef was fun and expressive. Enjoyed his skills. The food was GREAT. Fillet was tender, cooked perfectly and the salmon had a wonderful fresh flavor. There is A Lot of food served so I took home lunch for the next day. It was pricey but worth it for our date night. The place was clean and welcoming. Open floor with many tables available. Every Christmas Eve for the last few years my family has eaten here. They can comfortably seat all 15 of us. I always order filet mignon and shrimp. Hibachi style is the only way I like to eat steak so I decided to forgo the shrimp and just order filet. For the first time ever my steak was over cooked slightly and was rather chewy. It was a bit disappointing seeing as how this plate costs $36!!!! That's pretty outrageous if you ask me. I took home half of it and didn't eat it and I dislike wasting food but it wasn't going to be any better the second time around. I will say that our chef was very entertaining and kept us laughing. One of our favorite hibachi joints in Greensboro! You get what you get at these places though so the experience really depends on the time and day of the week and on the individual chef/server you get. It's well lit and usually very clean (which is not always the case at these places) and the food always seems pretty fresh. During our most recent trip it felt like the portions were larger than normal with several people getting "extra" food despite a full table. Not complaining for sure but thought it was interesting. I enjoyed a birthday dinner at Fire & Sticks last week. We don't get here often, but when we do, we always enjoy dinner with a little more entertainment than you get at ordinary sit down restaurants. Unsure how busy they'd be mid week, we made reservations, and were seated quickly. I'm glad we had, as they were a bit busier than I would have guessed, which I'm happy for them. Their menu is similar to most hibachi's with chicken, steak, various seafood items, as well as combo options. I opted for the chicken hibachi, which comes with fried rice as well as and onion, zucchini, mushroom medley and a few grill shrimp. It also comes with a small salad and bowl of soup before they start cooking. If you've never dined in this style restaurant, they serve the food up as it's prepared, so unless you want to wait for everything to be done cooking, they serve you rice, then cook up the meat, then cook the veggies, adding it in stages. In the end you get a lot of food, but my picture does not do it justice. I had plenty to eat for dinner, and a lunch the next day. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fun night out, celebrating a special occasion or just in the mood for something different! read more

This was my first time ever visiting. We had reservations for a friend's birthday. Before arriving, our group was told that we would not be seated until everyone in the party was present. We made sure to get there early so we wouldn't have to wait. Our reservation was for 6:00. We were all there by 6, but we ended up waiting around 20 mins before we were seated. I understand this is because they are short staffed. It's still a bit annoying to wait when you have a reservation. (Although without a reservation, I heard them tell a group that the wait was 2 hours. Yikes.) We were seated alongside another group of people and our server came out immediately to bring us soup and take our drink orders. She was very friendly. I loved the soup! I don't recommend coming here hungry, because our hibachi chef did not end up coming out until after 7pm. The being said, he was incredible and SO funny. He had our side of the table cracking up and of course did an amazing job with the food. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, with no shortage of sauce options. Lots of food, and lots of leftovers. Sadly, their sushi bar has been shut down post-Covid. I'd be interested in returning if they were able to bring that aspect back. read more

The service we received today from the host at Fire and Sticks today was above and beyond. He changed our reservation to include more guest that decided to show last minute and allowed us to wait for everyone to show up. He was very personal and understanding, unlike any experience I have ever had at one of these type of restaurants. Our cook was hilarious and kept cracking jokes from start to finish. He was very attentive throughout the process and made sure our sauce trays were filled. We had a party member with a shell fish allergy and he made sure her food was never in contact and kept checking in with her to make sure her food was good and how she liked it. The food was good. Not overly salty and just the right amount of saucy. We also didn't leave smelling like grease and smoke either, which is a huge plus. We had reservations for a party of 6 for a hibachi table. We got there at about 5 of and our entire party was present, as we were told we wouldn't be seated if anyone was missing. We still had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. I'm not sure how busy they normally are, but I heard the hostess tell another couple it would be a two hour wait for a table. So I figured they may have been extra busy. We were seated and our waitress came over and got our drink orders immediately. Soup and salad were brought out pretty quickly. I was expecting normal green onion soup but this one had little bites of what I found out was fried dough. It sounds weird, and I thought it would just end up being soggy bread but it was actually a nice unexpected crunch added. I chose the ginger dressing for the salad. It had a taste similar to a Thai peanut sauce and it really enjoyed it. For the main entree, our cook was very friendly and funny. He made conversation and was very skilled in his cooking techniques and tricks. The rice, steak, chicken, and shrimp were all delicious, seasoned well and not over or undercooked. Once we got the check I thought it was a bit pricey compared to other Japanese restaurants I've been to, but the show you get with them cooking in front of you makes it worth it in my opinion. I would definitely come back but would absolutely recommend getting a reservation so you're not waiting too long, especially on a weekend. read more
