I love this place the staff is super friendly and the food is amazing. Happy that they have two locations in town. The breakfast focaccia bread and breakfast sandwiches are amazing. I also enjoy all of their scones. I highly recommend any sandwich they have put tofu in because they all taste amazing. The price point seems high until you bite into your first bite and realize that you were paying for quality. Some of the best bread and other goodies I have ever had in Anchorage. Can't believe I've never been here before! I feel so lucky to have stumbled across Fire Island Bakery in my early morning search for savory baked goods. I had zero expectations going in but found both classic staples and unique/fresh offerings. The craftsmanship and quality control that goes into each batch of their items was impressive. Let me testify that while I was there, a woman received a discount because her bread was deemed "a bit overdone", and one employee was randomly selecting items from finished trays to measure their quality. I got the buckwheat cinnamon roll, a ham & swiss croissant, and a couple gingerbread cookies. Buckwheat cinnamon roll was wonderful! Light, earthy, good balance of sweetness. Ham & Swiss Croissant was immensely flaky, not skimpy on the filling. Now I am very picky about my gingerbread and typically do not like cookies; however, their gingerbread has won me over. The cookies were sufficiently spiced, not too hard nor soft, and the right amount of sweetness...not sickly sweet, but made of substance! I was also very impressed at the layout of the bakery itself, as I stood in line I was entranced watching staff knead, cut, and shape dough RIGHT BEFORE MY VERY EYES! I loved this place. You walk in and you immediately see their whole baking setup right behind the counter. You can see them making everything right in front of you. I got a few of the savory and sweet croissants. These were the biggest croissants I have ever seen, they were bigger than my hand! I had the ham and cheese to bring with me on a hike and it was a nice light but fueling meal. I also got the chocolate croissant as a reward for after the hike, it was full of beautiful dark chocolate. We also go a few of their cookies and other baked goods. I think I developed an addiction to their peanut butter sandwich cookies... I might have stopped in before we left and gotten a box to bring with me on the plane... Amazing find even if I had to walk in the rain. Apple butter danish and breakfast sandwich with avocado. The danish was light, flaky and not too sweet. The breakfast sandwich had a perfect soft boiled egg inside, a soft roll that was sweet and savory and a relish that I would put on everything if I could. My friends and I literally bring out of state guests here when they visit... and not a single one has ever been disappointed. This review is purely for taste. We ordered the ham and cheese croissant, eggplant sandwich, chive and ham (?) scone, and breakfast sand which. The croissant was alright as so the eggplant sandwich but the scone and breakfast sandwich was a bit underwhelming. Best taste. Worst hours. Does not open till 7am. Since when do fresh bakeries open that late. Bankers hours. If you are a night shift type person or start your work day before 7am. AMAZING chocolate chip cookies! The best scones I've ever had! Delicious sandwiches (they sell out quick, so go early!) AND they use organic flour....swoon ;) So fantastic! The only thing I really wish they did have is a full espresso bar and then I'd be down there ALL the time. read more

For breakfast I gad the focaccia with egg and sausage while my wife had the egg sausage sandwich on a onion poppyseed roll. Both were great choices. Their coffee was nice.
