Incredible food! Decided to order 5 platters for takeout tonight to feed my extended family. We're from central NJ where there are multiple great Portuguese restaurants, so our expectations weren't high. We had the chicken, ribs, strip steak, and picadinho with rice, fries, and vegetables. Everything was delicious and great quality for the price. We were stuffed and so pleased. Owner is wonderful and doing the best he can in these hard times where it's hard to find help. We've driven past this place a hundred times and never realized it was there. It's right on Route 9 in a strip mall. Huge portions, tons of flavor, the owner was incredibly friendly. We had a fantastic dinner and will enjoy it again tomorrow and the next day! As an appetizer 2 of us shared the fried plantains which were deliciously sweet and had the perfect texture. For dinner I had the grilled skirt steak with garlic shrimp which came with 2 sides (our chose was tossed salad & mixed veggies) Boyfriend had a special, the Giants Platter - it had a bit of everything and all were delicious (short rib, chicken, pork cutlet, garlic shrimp, rice) While we were very full afterwards, we both commented that none of the dishes really had any oil or butter and therefore it tasted like a very healthy meal that we could enjoy frequently. Tonite my fiance and I ordered takeout for the first time. The chicken and ribs were pretty good. The beef was tough. The Spanish fries were mediocre ( should of gotten another side dish). The mixed vegs were frozen (bought the same ones at Costco) with a vinegary taste and strange spice. We did not care for the vegs at all. We both believe that the meals were overpriced. Some great food here. Wish there was one by me. Perfect for a quick casual dinner or to bring in. The Spanish fries are always on point and the Portuguese sausage with onion and peppers is delicious. First time here after arriving back from NYC to the Toms River Park and Ride Bus Station. With the help from the friendly host/waitress, I ordered the Cowboy Platter. Large portion containing their chicken, pork ribs, pork cutlet, shrimp, and garlic rice. All that for under $20. Everything was very flavorful and yummy. Only minor complaints were that the pork cutlets were a little tough, and one of the rib pieces was overly salty; however, the other two pieces were fine. But they were all still very tasty. Will try one of their sandwiches for lunch one day. Definitely worth going back but, unfortunately, I live almost an hour away. Wish there were a similar place near me. read more

Wow... I never thought I would be able to get Authentic Portuguese food down the shore... You could literally put this place in the Portuguese section of Newark and there would be no difference in the food quality... It is that good... My fiancé and I ordered the Chicken and Short rib combo (enough for 2 people, even came home with leftovers) which came with beans and rice (old school style like my fiancé's Grandparents used to make). The short ribs were cooked perfect and the chicken was excellent, I could tell they used some kind of homemade rub which gave the chicken a ton of flavor. The food was made as we ordered, which is refreshing because you can't get a fresh meal anymore anywhere on route 9 in the Bayville area. Also there is a little twist, they also have some Cuban dishes which were also amazing (we tried the tropical spicy wings, plantains and the Cuban rice... Awesome). My fiancé and I decided to sit inside where they have a few tables... Which was nice because we got to speak with the owner and cook during our meal who are both extremely friendly guys who obviously take pride in the food they are putting on the table. The inside reminded me of the small hole in the wall type place you find in Miami... Which we actually love Bc it seems these are the places you get the best food. Even though the inside is small, it is functional and very clean which is pretty important in my book. I personally would do take out or eat in because it isn't the type of food that is going to get soggy on the way home. The prices were pretty cheap considering we ordered a ton of food and drinks and only paid $30... Any other restaurant that isn't fast food we probably would have spent $80 between apps and entrees... Needless to say I think we found our new little spot... Ordered the chicken breast platter w/ rice, Spanish chips, and yucca. The chicken breast was very tough and lacked flavor. I was hoping it tasted as good as it smelled in the restaurant with the fire pit, but no such luck. The rice seemed like typical Rice-a-Roni - nothing special. Both the Spanish chips and yucca were very greasy and 'heavy'. I was hoping at least the chicken would have some of the rich flavor and tenderness I've had at some Mediterranean kebab places, but no such luck. It was worth a shot, but won't go back. read more

Stopped in for the first time today and have been looking forward to trying this place for a while. I was really pleased with how well cooked the chicken and ribs were (the other Portuguese BBQ near here was lousy). Really juicy and perfectly grilled. Horrible. We've eaten here before, but after tonight, we will never be back. My grilled chicken platter was soooo dry and burnt, my kids' french fries were wet and soggy and my husbands' paella which was pricey, came with seafood so small you could barely make it out. Most of the dish was rice. Oh, and when we called up to ask for the specials, we were told there were none, then when I showed up to pick up the order, there was a whole list of specials on the blackboard...irritating! Yes, as the other reviews state, the food is excellent, however....Please take my advice and pick up your food. Delivery service is very slow. What was told to me to be a 45 minute delivery time, turned out to be 2 hours. By the time it came to the door, the food was cold. Owner refunded $15 off the bill for the slow time but grew impatient when I told him it was cold and wasn't interested that he had lost my business after being a loyal customer of a year and a half read more
