When you walk in the door of a restaurant and the customers tell you that it is the best place in town, well--it's a good indication that you should stay. That's what happened. The customers clearly were not related to the staff and were fully engaged in the enjoyment of their meal. They even offered me a bite, which I graciously declined--finicky as I am. When I got my meal, I could see why Fire Wok was so enthusiastically endorsed. As a vegetarian, I still want my high bar for meal exceeded. A fast food Chinese dining establishment, actually run by Asians. The main lady working was hustling. They have a stack of paper menus that you can browse before ordering. I went with the orange chicken dinner, which comes with fried rice and an egg roll. A lot of food for $12. They make it fresh, telling everyone to come back in 10 minutes. So I came bac in 10 minutes and my food was ready to go. The egg roll was cooked perfectly. A golden brown with a nice crunch. And the filling tasted really good. The wonton soup was flavorful and had 3 wontons in small serving. The beef with broccoli was yummy & a good sized portion. I also ordered the brown rice which was good. We had it delivered and the food came hot and very yummy, the delivery guy was very pleasant and personable. Only thing that it was lacking was the egg roll for my husband's meal. The most awful Chinese food experience ever. The delivery came without utensils, sauces or even napkins. Called back to rude entitled daughter and she blamed on delivery driver. This is a common theme in their reviews. Who packaged food? Driver or restaurant... certainly restaurant but they blame service for their downfalls! How pathetic to not be able to take any ownership of your poor customer service. We talked about this with staff at our hotel across street and they said they don't care because they are busy. They further added that they don't eat there because food tastes "off". We agree with them. We went in this afternoon to talk to owners and Mom was exactly rude and obnoxious just like daughter. It was a cold, rainy night along the Atlantic coast of Florida... two travelers, now on their 15th day away from home were looking for a place to eat before checking into their hotel. It was getting late. The wife spotted this place, with only one Yelp review to go by. "What the heck, let's give it a shot... it's New Year's Eve, and it's getting late," we said. We got take-out. Back at the hotel, the food turned out to be... hot. Temperature-wise, that is. A decided plus on such a raw day. As for flavor? I'd have to say it was okay, but nothing to write home about. The veggies were a bit overcooked, the garlic sauce was not spicy at all, and the meal seemed to scream for some flavor. Any flavor! Next time in St. Augustine, we'll probably try somewhere else.
