I think this mala tang spot is fairly new, and everything feels super clean and fresh. The moment I walked in, I noticed how new the seats and interior looked. The ingredients also looked fresh and there was a ton of variety to choose from. Their sauce selection is amazing. I really like mixing the peanut crumbs with the sesame paste and the brown sauce, although I'm not sure what the actual name is. That combination was so good. There are plenty of options for vegetables, carbs, protein, and all the classic ingredients you'd expect from mala tang. If you haven't tried mala tang before, I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot. I especially recommend getting it with the bone broth since it really brings out the traditional flavors. Prices are pretty fair for the amount of food you get, and I believe they're also offering around 20% off during their soft opening. Used to go here when it was Cheers, was sad to see it go. Then it became Fire Wok with some kind of robot kitchen, both times I tried it was very subpar. Now I find out it converted to the ever popular "build your own" hot pot. Went tonight (Friday) at 7:45pm, completely empty and remained that way until 9pm when we finished eating which was a shame because it was pretty good. The lady that worked the front didn't speak much English which I don't think is good for business but it is what it is. They are having a 12% soft opening promo with free iced tea, hot pot is by the pound at 14.99 per lb. I always manage to get carried away and end up with about 1.8-2lbs lol. I got the tomato base and it was pretty flavorful, most ingredients tasted fresh. The only 2 things that tasted funny was the wide sweet potato noodle and one of the fish balls (not sure which one). Fire Wok is new to our neighborhood. My father raved about it so we decided to give it a try and see why he likes it. To our surprise, he was right about the place. The food is great. We tried the 6 different dishes. The spices were well balanced. It's not too spicy, but just right. It's not too salty or oily either which we appreciate. Each dish was done well and we can't really find flaws. The rice had some toughness to it but that's most likely from the heat lamp that they use, which could be improved on. The overall flavor is great. For under $11 for two entrees, this is very economical. It's honestly rare to find cheap eats. We understand others may compare it to Panda Express but in our opinion, this is far more authentic in terms of flavor and cooking. It's absolutely a great alternative to Panda Express if you're wanting more authenticity and spice. We understand that they just opened so these things aren't really deal breakers. I tried this spot through the Too Good To Go app and paid $6.99 for a meal. Considering their regular two-item plate is $10.99, the deal seemed fair. The flavors and amount were okay, but the execution was off. My meal came with orange chicken, pepper beef, and a pork & cabbage dish over fried rice. The pepper beef and pork & cabbage were both pretty good, flavorful, and tender. Unfortunately, the rest wasn't good. The orange chicken was overcooked and tough, and the fried rice was so overfried that some grains were hard. Their sign advertised "robot-cooked American Chinese fast food," which caught my attention. It's really good, they also give rice if you get the dry mix and a free drink if you go a certain weight I think. Just noticed this new place that opened in the area. Their chow mein and fried rice were really good. We also had orange chicken, chicken curry with potatoes, teriyaki chicken, black pepper beef, and jalapeno pork. Everything was well-flavored and portions were huge and well worth the price. We had two orders and mine was enough for me to have as dinner, packed for tomorrow's lunch and, some leftover. Will definitely come back over Panda Express. It's exciting to see a new quick, affordable fast food Chinese restaurant opening in this area. The restaurant looks modern and clean with cheerful staff. The ambiance is simple and efficient. It's such a shame to find that the food is unfortunately borderline not edible. The main dishes are way overly salted and loaded with oil. The chow mein as well, swimming in oil. I hope the management would taste the food and help the chef in adjusting the taste. The way it works is that you choose one of two carbs (noodles or fried rice), and two entrees from their display before paying at the register. For myself, I chose the noodles, broccoli & beef, and shrimp & eggs (this one's recommended!!) to take to go, and watched while they piled a lot of food into my to-go box. Just Stopped by after a Tokyo central run. Glad to see a cafeteria style combo Chinese place as they're pretty rare in this area. I got the two item combo which is only 10.69 right now with spicy tofu, jalapeno pork, and chow mein. The food is well seasoned and has nice wok-hey aroma. The staff were very nice and gave me a free drink for my first time and made some chowmein fresh when they ran out. There's also a stamp card system for decently cheap food already.
