Not the first time but very satisfied for our most recent visit here. It's been a while since we last ate here and we had family dinner as a party of 10, so we were given a private room with 3 hot pots. We had beef, lamb, and pork slices for hotpot which we ordered 5 each per order. We had two pots original and one spicy. The meat slices were very thin so cooking time wasn't long and we paired it with various sauces, so if you make a good sauce it'll be even better. The buffet selection definitely changed, there's more hot foods and they no longer have mini sausages. I do enjoy their char siu and their varieties. Staff were pretty attentive with making sure our tables are cleared and if we need more meat. Since we were in a private room, they still came by to check on us. I'm deeply disappointed with the decline in cleanliness and overall quality of this establishment over the years. What was once a delightful place to visit has steadily deteriorated, and my recent visit was the final straw. As someone who has worked in food service, I understand the significance of proper sanitation and food safety practices. What I witnessed was truly disturbing. Employees were wearing the same pair of gloves while performing various unrelated tasks without changing them. I observed staff handling dirty items, picking up debris from the floor, pushing dirty carts, touching shared surfaces, using their phones, and even making physical contact with one another all the while continuing to wear the same gloves when handling customer items. Gloves are designed to prevent contamination, not spread it. Wearing the same contaminated gloves throughout an entire shift defeats their purpose and creates serious cross-contamination. There seemed to be a complete lack of awareness of basic food safety standards. The dining area was equally disappointing. The menus were visibly greasy and oily, as if they hadn't been cleaned in ages. During slower periods, most restaurants take the opportunity to wipe down menus, sanitize surfaces, and maintain cleanliness throughout the establishment. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case here. The salad bar was in a state of disarray. Ingredients were scattered, vegetables were mixed into the wrong containers, and food was spilling over the sides. The entire area looked neglected and unorganized. Instead of appearing fresh and inviting, it looked messy and unsanitary. To add insult to injury, much of the dishware appeared dirty. Plates, bowls, and utensils had oily residue and didn't look properly cleaned before being put back into service. There's nothing more unsettling than wondering whether the dishes you're eating from are actually clean. Dining out should be a pleasant experience, but this establishment fell short on multiple fronts. The lack of sanitation practices, visible cross-contamination, dirty menus, messy food stations, and unclean dishware left me feeling disgusted rather than satisfied. I went to pick up the food, and the parking was very easy - it was lunch time and I found easy street parking right in front. I walked in and the ambiance is fun. Pair this with the selection of veggies (spinach, watercress, bok choy) and I'd say it's all you need. Since it was my first time, I did have to try the Chinese buffet trays. Most of the items are just okay, but the chicken wings, although a bit oily, was super juicy inside. I could do without it next time though. They did have seafood but I'm pretty skeptical of seafood in these situations so I decided to skip it. We also decided to try the dimsum but as everyone else says, it's only 3 items. Happy AYCE used to be one of my go-to places for great value hot pot, but I can't recommend it anymore following my previous visit. It doesn't help that they were shut down by the health inspector due to a cockroach infestation in December. We got inside and nobody was at the front. We waited for 10 minutes and had to go inside to get someone to get us seated. At least our server was nice and understood our frustrations. She genuinely seemed like she was trying her best despite the restaurant being busy and understaffed. It was difficult to get a server to take our orders for more meat and the food came out slowly. Also, the plates were dirty we had to ask for replacements multiple times. Seems like they haven't improved on their cleanliness. The self serve bar is a shadow of what it used to be. They removed many food options and replaced them with ramen noodles. Veggie options were also replaced with cheaper alternatives like lettuce and spinach. The soda machine was out of a few sodas at one point and I'm not sure if or when it was refilled. Happy AYCE Hot Pot has become Sad AYCE Hot Pot now. Cleanliness is definitely a recurring issue and I don't trust that they've made the steps to fix it. This is actually a good deal! For lunch, you have access to their hot pot salad bar (including seafood). They also have a small buffet of sides like (egg rolls, steamed buns, noodles, etc.) and it comes with a drink and everything is AYCE!!! I forgot to mention they have packages of instant ramen noodles you can add into your hot pot with their seasoning and it's all included. The original broth didn't help much either -- it had a strong herbal aroma (probably ginseng or something similar, i took a photo) that completely dominated the flavor. I tried adjusting it with condiments, but every sauce had its own overpowering, pungent note. Even the chili oil -- usually the hero when all else fails -- couldn't save it, since the oil had the same lingering fried scent you'd find on their french fries and fritters from the buffet. The meats were another letdown -- they tasted gamey (especially on the fats), and even the lamb wasn't lean. The dim sum buffet, though only an extra $5, didn't add much value either. The tofu skin had a weird leathery, paper-like texture, the chocolate fountain was overly sweet, the soybean milk was also pungent, and even the soda station are Pepsi instead of Coke. Overall, while the price and service are good, the flavors just didn't work for me--and this is rare, since I've tried ALL hotpots around , I can always find at least one thing to enjoy even at my least favorite place. After that, it took 40 minutes just to order the broth, another 20 minutes to order the meat, and another 20 minutes for the meat to arrive. When the meat finally came, we weren't given utensils to cook it. We waited an additional 15-20 minutes trying to get someone's attention, but no one came by. By that point, we had seafood sitting out and had still not been able to start our shabu, so we left without eating. Tables around us that appeared to be regulars and were speaking the staff's native language were helped promptly, while we were largely ignored. The floors were extremely slippery and greasy, to the point where we had to walk carefully to avoid falling. There is a main dining area and separate enclosed/private rooms. We were seated in one of the private rooms where service seemed worse--if you come here, I recommend waiting for a table in the main dining area. I was really impressed by the wide variety of hot food options here--they offer a great selection and everything we tried was delicious Despite the rush, the staff worked incredibly hard to help us place our order and get our food out quickly , creating a very positive and energetic atmosphere.it was a great dining experience. When I came here for the first time a while back near the grand opening, everything was wonderful. This time, I had the most horrifying dining experience. The meats were so old- extremely chewy and dried down to the plate which they were served on- and the vegetables were all wilted. We just left while the health inspector was checking the food, and it was apparent that things weren't going well judging from the looks on everyone's faces. We even overheard a table (who seemed to be bosses or business friends) dining alone on the left side of the restaurant speaking to employees in cantonese, instructing them to move all the bad vegetables onto their table so that the health inspector wouldn't see it. That's CRAZY. If this place closes again soon, we know why. Aside from that, I felt so bad for the severely understaffed servers who seemed extremely overwhelmed. It took a long time to get their attention, but I don't blame them for this. If you scroll to the bottom of the yelp, you'll see that most of the 1 star reviews were filtered out somehow. I'm uploading my receipt in hopes that yelp will see that I'm a real customer and won't remove my review. I went on Wednesday night and service was extremely slow. We ordered 2nd round after finishing our 1st round of meat, and ended up sitting around and waited 20-30 minutes. Our broth was basically boiled to the bottom of the pot and even when the waiter served our 2nd round of meat, he didn't bother checking or asking if we wanted broth to be refilled. When I went to The self service section to grab some vegetables, it was practically empty, but when I went back to grab my 2nd plate of vegetables 20 minutes later, it basically empty and I ended up grabbing scraps and leftovers from the trays. Overall, we kept flagging waitress/waiter down to order or to refill broth. Just a disappointing experience. read more
