*EDIT: The owner did reach out to me to apologize and offer cleaning/replacements for my clothing. They also spoke with the staff to make a training and learning lesson for them which I appreciate. I'm changing my rating of the experience based on Owen's response, as most owners do not attempt to rectify a bad situation. I have never had an experience as bad as the one I just had at Firebird Tavern. Needless to say I will never return or recommend this place to anyone. The visit started well and our server was very pleasant and attentive. Halfway through our visit, a full tray of drinks and shots was spilled on me to the point that a mop was needed and a wet floor signed was placed behind me. Not only that, but my white shirt is stained and not reparable. I was soaked. The server eventually did apologize to me and told me that she was personally comping ONE of my drinks. First of all, I would NEVER expect the server to comp any drinks. Second of all, I was never approached by the manager to access the damage or talk about comps, WHICH I would assume from the establishment itself. When we were brought our bill, I asked the server, 'what is the establishment taking care of for my damages'. The manager eventually came to talk to me and did not seem aware of the situation, even after many servers explained what happened and I showed him my clothing that was still wet and stained. He simply replied that the server was comping one drink and he would see what he could do. The server came back with the same bill, no initiative from the bar or manager and I paid for the bill as it was. How is this acceptable from a bar that my table paid several rounds of drinks and food for the night? I have never experienced this lack of care in my life and cannot express my disappointment and frustration with the management and overall experience of Firebird. What an embarrassment to our city. As a resident of the downtown area, I would never expect such a terrible experience. read more

Me and the wife stopped in for my first time here. I had the diner burger and fries and added bacon. She had the firebird sandwich (which is a deep fried chicken breast sandwich). The burger was unbelievably good, immediately one of my all time favorites. And the French fries are Amazing, they're identical to McDonald's fries. The chicken sandwich was ok. The only thing is our server Makayla accidentally charged my card with someone else's bill which was $71 and then charged my card again with my bill which was $51. When this happened I got a notification on my phone of both the charges. When she came back she just said have a good night real quick and didn't even have the common decency to let me know of the mishap when charging my card, it upset me that she wasn't going to let me know what happened until I asked her about it, which I feel was her being sneaky and wrong, like I wouldn't have noticed. I wouldn't have minded if she had come to me and said hey look this is what happened I'm sorry but her trying to be sneaky like I wouldn't notice is BS. Firebird Tavern is charming restaurant with great stain glass windows and wood decor. This tavern is great for date nights or group outings. The menu is typical bar food ie. fries,wings and a nice selection of adult beverages. We split the poutine, wings and a pretzel. All of the aforementioned items were tasty. I enjoyed the Cheboygan Blueberry cream ale as well. The service was good and prompt. There is street and garage parking available. We ate here for a business luncheon after a team building event. It was a great venue, amazing service and the food was also very good. There are a few areas that can be sectioned off to give a private feel to your event. Ours dat about 18 people in a single area comfortably. There are some great cocktails, and some interesting food combinations to try. I would recommend eating here on a date, business meeting or with friends before a show. read more

Then another visit later I had gotten the Firebird Chef Salad. The chef salad and the beef barley soup were the most successful I'd say. The beef barley soup was well balanced with a tasty broth. I kinda wished that I had ordered a bowl instead of a cup despite the amount of food. The chef salad was well dressed, ingredients in the salad were balanced. *side note: I adore the fact that not a great amount of carrot was used and that it wasn't just shredded into it all over the place. I always feel like that kind of use of carrot becomes a filler. The Fried Green BLT I feel like could've been much better. The fried green tomatoes were mushy inside. I wanted that crunch factor in the sammich which neither the bacon or the tomatoes provided. Hell I would've taken the sammich deconstructed to preserve that element and assemble things myself with like a chipotle mayo/aioli to dip. Honestly, a good idea with a few shortcomings. The pretzel was ok. A little too dry, too much salt cover, and the beer cheese that came with was also too salty. I ended up removing all of it and just dipping it in the soup at the time. Overall it was good though, I'd swing by again if I was in the area. It won't blow your mind but you'll have a solid meal. read more

I bookmarked this place way before my trip due to the great reviews, the happy hour prices, and its close proximity to Comerica Field and I'm so glad I did! From the moment we arrived, our server, Marcellia, was SO friendly and accommodating. She had us try different since we wanted to try some local ones, and generally she did a good job helping us find ones that we liked. The happy hour prices here were absolutely amazing. It reminds me of being at the Gaslamp in San Diego and only paying $2.50-$3 for IPA's. I was so thrilled to be here getting smashed before the game without breaking the wallet. We ordered a wings appetizer and were very contempt with them. I wish they were spicier, but they did come off the bone very easily and were super tasty. Overall, I am a big fan of this place based on our recent experience, and would recommend others to come here before a game during happy hour. You will not go wrong choosing this establishment! Luckily, we did come right at the start of happy hour, so it wasn't that busy, but when we were getting ready to leave, the place was very packed! Came in on a Thursday before a Tigers day game. Alexis was the bartender. She's quit the pistol. It was a bit too early in the day to be prepared for her sassy demeanor, but she was very good at what she does. The place has 12 beers on tap. All nice craft beers. No Budwiser on tap here. They also have a great bourbon collection, including Bookers, Basil Hayden's and Knob Creek. Got lunch, we had the Philly Cheese steak and a Fried Green BLT. The Cheese steak was very good and prepared as expected. It came with homemade chips that were a bit over cooked. The BLT was interesting. Fried green tomatoes, bacon, shredded lettuce and a jalepeno mayo. It was good, but would have been better with lettuce that wasn't shredded. The stuff on the sandwich was wilted from the hot tomatoes. We also had the big pretzel. Not as impressive as Hofbrahaus, but good none the less. read more

WOW! I will absolutely come here again. Arrived with a group of 10 for lunch before a Tigers game. Waitress was very nice and the management was also very nice and welcoming. I've been here several times, more so for birthday parties upstairs on the dance floor. It's a decent area with a semi-chaotic atmosphere. In other words, if you go on a Saturday night, be prepared to not have much moving room because unlike some clubs, they don't have limited admission. And if you reserve an area, good luck. Aside from that, security can be a little aggressive but I can't blame them due to the atmosphere. What I really want to talk about are my visits during the day at the bar on the main floor. It's a totally different world, but one I prefer. The wait staff and bartenders are very nice and can hold a good conversation, most of, if not all are women. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I welcome it. They have a great selection of Michigan beer from different sides of the state, including my favorite, Detroit's own Ghettoblaster. Their menu has a decent selection of items, and some are unique concoctions that you'll only see on a food truck. I've had their fried gyro (pictured), which was an appetizer but it filled me up. The only complaint I have was that it was fried maybe 30 seconds longer than it needed to be, but I did enjoy it. Food aside, it had a great bar atmosphere with darts and I believe a pinball machine or 2. I came for the food, but if I came with someone else, I'm sure we'd make the best of it. Overall, I like it. Four of us stopped in for a bite to eat on our way to Autorama. Waitress was prompt on seating us with menus and serving our drinks. Two ordered the burgers, one ordered the short ribs and one ordered the chicken wrap. The presentation of our food on the plates looked wonderful. All of us were very pleased with the taste and portion size of our meals. Manager came over to check on how we liked our food. The price was very reasonable. Ok , don't be mislead by the church pew looking booths. This place has it down pat. Brought back to life about 5 years ago from The ashes of Detroit. The mascot is red Phoenix. Bar with second floor dancing in Greektown. Firebird is basically the epitome of Greektown. Playing all of the top 40 hits from the past 20 years and attracting a mainly suburban crowd, you will find yourself at home if you like getting down to the Cupid Shuffle and Get Low. The dance floor does have a pretty nice set up, with enough space to move around, and lots of adjacent tables/ledges to lean against when you need a break. They also have a bar right on the dance floor, for when you need another round but can't stop dancing. Drinks are a bit pricey for what you get (7 dollars for a shot), but you also probably won't break the bank here. Quick note: -They typically have a five dollar cover which makes it one of the cheaper options in Greektown. read more

I've probably been here about 20 times and, in all honesty, this place is generally a consistent 4-Star experience. Last night was terrible, however. We came in and sat at a table. They were probably at about 70% capacity. So - busy, but not full. Plenty of open seats. Sat down. Waited. Saw a server touch all three tables surrounding us. Didn't acknowledge us. Waited some more. Saw said server start to bus tables. Gave it a couple more minutes. Nothing. Got up. Put our jackets on. Finally got acknowledged by the guy running food (pretty sure he's a manager) when he said to my wife, "EXCUSE ME!" in a loud, rude, annoyed tone as we were putting on our jackets. Not sure where that falls in their customer service manual, but this experience was so poor that it will be forever etched in my mind if this place pops up in conversation. Unfortunately, that's 15 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. read more

I was at a meeting at the International Center and I was starving when it ended. I walked out the door and there was Firebird Tavern, directly across the street. I ordered a corned beef sandwich with slaw and 1000 island. The bread was deliciously griddled and the corned beef was just the right combo of tender and chewy. The fries that came with the sandwich were fresh out of the fryer and nicely seasoned. Service was A-OK and the ambiance is nice - dark woods in the 1880's building give it an old-timey bar feeling. Since I only stopped by for a quick lunch, I don't feel comfortable yet giving 4 stars, but I will be back with hubby or some friends, and if it's just as good I'll up the rating. read more

It was pretty dead inside here for a Thursday night. I imagine it gets more packed on the weekends. We walked past here at first when exiting the parking center and debated going inside and were told by one of the lovely staff members that this was an awesome bar. She was off duty and enthusiastically expressed that its one of her new favorite places. Holt had been here before and I'm an overly curious kid. The doors are very large and almost ornate looking. It's intriguing and the outside of it is painted red. I did end up coming back after checking out the skybar for a last drink and the end of the Jets game. I must say, everyone in that bar was rooting for the Jets. The bartender was also from New York. He poured the 'special drink of the day' which consisted of gin and lime juice for the most part. A little too heavy handed on the lime. Could have used more soda and gin. But it wasn't bad and I definitely didn't taste too much bitterness which I think I actually like at times. But it was cheap for a 'fancy' drink. I think this is more of a beer kind of bar though and their list was extensive. Great new addition to the neighborhood. read more
