I visited Durango recently and as I do for most places that I visit, I do a yelp review. The wife and I were craving pizza and figured we'd stop here since it has decent reviews and close to the hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating considering there was a large crowd. The pizza was possibly the worst pizza I have ever had in my life and I've microwaveable pizza before so that says a lot. The pizza had no flavor and had raw tomatoes and onions on top of the cheese. Umm... really ? Raw veggies, this isn't a salad. We asked the waiter if this is normal and he said yes and so we let it be. The table next to us had the same issue except with arugula. I love pizza and it's tough having to give this low review, but definitely not worth the price or time to get unflavored food with raw toppings. read more

Beyond fabulous!!! This was our first trip to Durango so we decided to walk through the Historical Downtown District. We were contemplating where to eat and just happened to walk by Fired Up Pizzeria. The restaurant was extremely busy, but we were seated rather quickly. We ordered a ceasar salad with citrus dressing and a green chile , bacon pizza. All I can say is , "YUM!". I do love pizza, but I am picky about pizza. Really nice little place for wood fired pizza. Had two pizzas. Both really tasty. Southwest: fennel sausage has really nice flavor and is a nice crumble. Green Chile and spicy oil gave a nice little bit of heat. Bianca Prosciutto: Bianco base nicely baked into the crust. The arugula, prosciutto, and tomato go well together and make for a much lighter and less filling pizza (plus it gives the illusion of being "healthy"). Crust is quite tasty with a nice char though a little floppy. Service was super friendly and plenty attentive. Highly recommend. read more

Teeny hole-in-the-wall shop with yummy woodfired pizza. First off: the restaurant is small, so crowds are aplenty, but the wait time wasn't too long and service was great. We tried the Fired Up Pizza (fennel sausage & mushroom, without the roasted red bell peppers), and the Bianca Pizza (sauceless white pizza, with added arugula). Both were yum, and the crust was very thin & crispy. However, I thought both could have used more herbs and/or spices because they were a little bland :( Lunch special (11-2 pm): $9 for an 8" personal pizza (single topping) and a house salad. Great deal for a good amount of food. The house salad was actually really tasty, especially with the house made balsamic. Let me start by saying that I love pizza. Even frozen pizza (some brands). With that said, I read the reviews but ignored the bad ones because most of the reviews were good. First off, service was not very good. With some training, she could be a lot better. If the food is good and the server is nice, I can overlook that aspect. Having been a server/bartender for many years, everyone has bad days. What I can't overlook was a very overpriced mediocre pizza. It was soggy, even though we didn't have toppings that would result in a soggy pizza. The pizza was lukewarm at best. I was afraid that if they put it back in the oven, it would be burned. There was no way to fix it as the waitress never came back. Overall, a bad and expensive dining experience. I would recommend the local Brew pubs for a better pizza experience. read more

I'm kinda fired up about how many positive reviews this place has. Honestly, if this is the best pizza in Colorado, then I sure feel sorry for all of you Coloradans. I mean really. Searching on my handy dandy Yelp app, we came across this place that had such rave reviews. Yelp, for the first time, you've done me wrong. We were so psyched to hit this place up, we had been on the road for a few weeks, and were craving a slice. We were excited to see that it was wood fired, which is usually pretty good. We came in, took a seat on the covered patio outside, and took a look at the menu. I ordered a basil lemonade and the boy an iced tea. The basil lemonade was just okay, nothing spectacular. It is supposed to come with one free refill, and the other typical soft drinks come with unlimited. I was maybe halfway done with my lemonade when the waitress whisks it away, and refills it without my asking (pet peeve, when it's not even half gone). I guess that was my "free" refill. Grumble. No bread to start out with or anything, which, okay, I guess we don't really need the extra carbs. We take a look at the menu, and decide to order a margherita pizza crazy style. We add on to it chicken, green chile (when in Rome) and arugula. The chile and arugula are $1.50 each, the chicken is $2.00. The base of the pie is $11.50. This is $16.50 before tax just for the pizza. We are starving and awaiting our pizza which our server guarantees will feed two (very) hungry people. The pizza comes...it is NOT margherita pizza. I don't know what the heck it is. It was just...all wrong. The arugula was just dumped on top haphazardly. Whatever, we take a bite. We exchange looks. Blech. Why is it that people mess up margherita style? It's saucy pizza, fresh mozz, basil. Plus our three add-on items. Done. Ugh. There was NO sauce on our pizza, it was so dry that the one half-refill wasn't going to cut it to bring some moisture back. There were a scant amount of chilies, certainly not $1.50 worth. And the chicken was bland and tasteless. In fact, the whole pizza was a bland, flavorless disaster. How the heck could a pizza with chile, chicken and everything else have no flavor? What the heck kind of pizza place doesn't have oregano or red pepper? What kind of pizza Twilight Zone have we stumbled upon? The cheese was of poor quality, no sauce, no anything. The only reason why we even ate the damned thing was because we were so hungry and we dumped a metric ton of parmesan on it. And then we left and shared a huge cookie to fill the void and somewhat satiate our palette. I hate writing negative reviews, I really do. I think if you really "love" this place, then you haven't had real pizza. Maybe being from New York, the holy grail mecca of all things pizza and bagels I am a pizza snob. Maybe it's my Italian heritage. But this disparaging triangle of nothingness offended me. We have no shortage of fancy coal and wood oven pizza places on the Island, and just because you have a wood burning oven doesn't mean you have good food. And especially at the price we paid, a total rip-off. The only saving grace was that our service, other than the refill incident, was excellent. I think maybe I can come down there, roll up my sleeves and school you on how it's done. All I know is this establishment wouldn't last a week in NY. We'd wipe the floor with your pizza, and then take your money. Colorado, you're beautiful. New York bows before your majestic mountains. We've got molehills next to your Rockies. But hell, we've got beaches, and we've got real pizza, and I'm okay with that. read more

I found this place via Yelp and decided to stop by on a recent visit to Durango (it was walking distance from my hotel). I was able to get there for Happy Hour (a pint and a pizza for a very reasonable price) and so had some SKA brewing beer and one of their spicier pizzas. The crust is very nice & crunchy (per wood fired oven), their pepperoni is of the larger variety, good flavor but not a peppery as I would like. It came with red peppers, garlic and I think red chile (but I am not certain) - it was very flavorful and filling, but just not spicy enough for me sadly. I would for sure stop by again; the service at the bar was great. read more

This place was so good that we came twice! My wife and I were vacationing in Durango last weekend, and we stayed at the Doubletree, which is a nice close walk from the shops and restaurants on Main Street. One night we walked around, looking for a good spot to eat, and we stumbled upon Fired Up Pizzeria. We were about to pass it up, with the logic that "we could get pizza back home," but the environment inside just looked so warm, inviting, and fun! We sat at the bar, and the bartender was extremely friendly and got us set up with some beers. I love Ska Brewing, and it's great that they have it on tap. Their pizza oven is imported from Naples, Italy, and they import all of their flower from there as well. My wife and I decided to split a salad and a pizza. The salad was delicious, with a great homemade dressing, artichoke hearts, olives, and more. Our pizza was perfect. They do a very thin crust style, and it was so light and fluffy. The ingredients on top of the pizza were really fresh, and each bite was a joy! We only planned on going there once, but on our way out of town, we actually stopped skiing 30 minutes earlier than we would have normally to leave a little extra time for one more pizza. Try to get past the rather lame name of this restaurant, its rather generic "nice modern restaurant" decor and atmosphere (it's perfectly pleasant but not very distinctive), and its somewhat high prices. Focus on the food and service, which I think were both well above average on the night we were there. A bunch of folks on Yelp and elsewhere who have flitted about the nation and world like to justify their opinions of pizza. Well, count me in. (Footnote: I'm not from New York City, New Haven, or Italy, so I can't say I've been immersed in the best of the best, but something makes me unsure that all of those who are from those places have necessarily been paying attention, either.) I think Fired Up's Neopolitan-style pizzas stack up pretty damn well, and I've had pizza in a bunch of places (including Italy & NYC). We shared a margherita and the figs-and-prosciutto one, and both were rock-solid. The thin crust was properly fired at high temps (900 degrees, allegedly), and had the tell-tale char you want see and taste. Most of the crust had the crispy/chewy balance you hope for with such pizza, although the very middle of the pie, as is too often the case, was slightly soggy. Toppings were as fresh as can be. The sauce was quite good, although it might have been a little on the lackluster side. I'm not saying this pizza was on my best-of-all-time list or anything like that, but it was easily above average and very satisfying. We also got the side salads, which were very simple and refreshing and made with quality ingredients. I see complaints in some of the other reviews about service, but we sat at the bar and our server, who looked a bit like a younger Sandra Bullock, was very informative, efficient, and friendly. We ordered 3 amazing pizzas! 1 Bianca Prosciutto 2 Meat Works 3 Wifey All amazing but my favorite was the Wifey! This was unlike any pizza I have had before! Mozzarella , basil, olive oil, onions mushrooms and the best kalamata olives!! Yummmm! The kids got the Canoli and I tried a bit, well 2, or maybe 3 or 4! Went here a few days ago because of the good reviews. When we walked in, we were greeted by a guy who seemed to have no idea what was going on. I asked if we could sit in a booth near the entrance and he replied with 'uhhhhhh no *long pause* beeeeecauuuuuuseee well four people might come in so you can't sit there.' There were several other tables in the immediate area that could have sat four or more persons. So we finally got a table. We each ordered a soda, which were both flat. Ordered an $18 specialty pizza, which was incredibly small for two people. The unfortunate thing was they didn't tell us anything to the effect of 'that may be small for two or would you like to order an additional pizza.' They actually lost the opportunity to upsell here because we were both incredibly hungry and would have definitely ordered two expensive pizzas if we knew. The pizza finally came out after a looooong wait. It would have been awesome to dig in. However, they just dumped the pizza on the table and left. They didn't bring plates, napkins, ask about refills, or anything. The same clueless guy that 'greeted' us turned around several times and looked at the two of us staring at our pizza with no plates. He didn't offer to bring plates or anything. Neither did any of the other servers. We literally sat there for over five minutes waiting to see if anyone saw the issue. We finally had to ask someone who walked by (not the first person either) if we could get plates. Still no napkins or offers on refills.... The pizza: The crust was pretty good, the ingredients were pretty good, there was a significant amount of grease. It tasted ok. I'd give it a 6/10. It wasn't the best I've ever had but it was better than your Dominos or Pizza Hut. All in all, this was such a horrible experience that I actually considered not leaving any tip for a large portion of my stay. The entire experience was consumed with all of the significant negative setbacks as opposed to enjoying the food and the time we had there. I don't live in Durango and was traveling through on vacation. I definitely wouldn't visit this nor recommend it to anyone who lives or vacations in the area. read more

My mom was super excited about Fired Up, but I guess I ordered the wrong thing because I wasn't TOO impressed. We met a couple of friends for lunch and were seated at a nice table near the window. My mom tried to get the wifi going on her phone but for some reason the password the waitress was telling us wasn't correct. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and spinach and artichoke dip to start. I wasn't a fan of the dip because it was way too cheesy for me, but the stuffed mushrooms weren't bad. Personally I don't like a cheese overload and I kind of felt overwhelmed by these two apps because they relied heavily on the cheese.. the other ladies seemed to enjoy them though. Mom ordered the Caesar salad and the Fired Up pizza (sausage, mushroom, bell pepper), our friends ordered the arugula salad and the Southwest pizza (chicken, onions, red peppers, green chile), and I ordered the Vesuvius (garlic, red bell pepper, pepperoni). I was a bit sad when my order came because it was drenched in oil and I could only eat one piece. The Fired Up pizza and the Southwest pizza looked a lot better so I'd recommend ordering one of those because they had less oil. Overall the experience was alright, but I have to be more careful when selecting my pizza if I come back. However, I did enjoy the thin crust pizza crust, it was delicious :) read more
