what is there to say about this place? i personally have never eaten anything here EXCEPT their bakery goods which were superb, best in town, hands down. Every morning they seem to have a wide selection of freshly baked pastries, good coffee, big smiles and a beautiful building. May 2026 My wife and I were visiting Durango for a few days. She took the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to Silverton, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go because of a medical condition that prevents me from traveling to high altitudes, and the train climbs to around 10,000 feet. After she left on her adventure, I decided to find some breakfast. While I was walking around town, my aunt called. She and my uncle used to vacation in Ouray every year, so she knows the area well. She recommended Jean-Pierre Bakery, so that's where I headed. I was seated right away and ordered a coffee while I looked over the menu. My waitress was very friendly, and we chatted for a while. She even recommended a few places around town that I should check out. I finally decided on the Croque Monsieur (brioche, béchamel, ham, and Swiss cheese) served with a salad. When my meal arrived, it looked fantastic. The sandwich was delicious, rich, and full of flavor. It was my first time trying a Croque Monsieur, and I really enjoyed it. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the vinaigrette paired perfectly with it. After finishing my meal, I couldn't resist ordering a pistachio cream-filled éclair that had caught my eye when I first walked in. It looked beautiful, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pastry was very dry, and the bottom was quite hard. It definitely didn't taste freshly made. The pistachio cream had a nice flavor, but there wasn't very much of it. I mentioned my concerns to my server, and she kindly brought me a chocolate éclair to try instead. It also looked wonderful, but it had the same problem. The pastry tasted old, almost like it had been sitting for a couple of days. I would absolutely return for another Croque Monsieur or to try something else from the breakfast or lunch menu because that part of the meal was excellent. As for the pastries, they certainly look beautiful, but based on my experience, I would probably pass on them next time. This bakery was so cute and nostalgic of the bakeries in small French towns. I thought the pastries were yummy though not quite as delicious as authentic French pastries, I appreciated they used real butter and real pistachio cream! Ok - I'm updating because as you can read from my first review- I really want to love this place. Last two times have been MUCH improved on consistency of baked goods. Seems that this is a family owned place and momma is still micro managing the place. When, cocktails are poured from the larger bottles, no measuring, and a vodka and seven up is poured into a large beverage glass instead of a rocks glass then twice as much liquor is poured for the price of one drink. My husband was very excited to try this place as he grew up in Europe and loves French pastries. After shelling out $40 just for a plain croissant, blueberry filled croissant, chocolate filled croissant, mocha, and a cappuccino to go we were extremely disappointed. These are not legitimate French pastries, they are yummy but are more like American bready croissants, not flaky layered French croissants. Also the mocha was so bad I literally threw it away, I drink mochas everywhere and have never needed to do this before. read more

I had a nightmare of a dining experience at Primus Restaurant the previous night, and am so thankful for the lovely experience at your bakery restaurant! Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by your cheerful staff, the sweet aroma of your freshly baked pastries, and the beautiful music by your pianist! What a way to start off the day! WOW! I was thoroughly impressed! The fresh pastries were amazing! My guy and I ordered the Parisien Pecan Roll and Custard Raisin to go with our coffee. Oh how I wish I had ordered more to take with us for the road! I love all of the decor and the warm ambiance! Thank you for creating such an inviting atmosphere! I honestly can't make a fair judgement about the quality of the food, but I can tell you that I have rarely walked out of a restaurant due to rude service, but today was an exception. My husband and I stopped in today 20-Septembre-2024 shortly after noon. The sign clearly read, wait to be seated, and so we did. A couple of minutes went by and a sloppily dressed male gruffly asked, how many, and I signaled 2. (My husband and I are celebrating our 50th Anniversary, and since I'm French, we thought this might be nice...) He grabbed some menus and tossed them onto a table as he walked by, and my husband, who is not used to rude people, continued following the "waiter?" I called him back and he headed to the men's room while I waited to order drinks. Before my husband returned the "waiter" came back with two glasses of water and roughly dropped them onto the table, asking for our drink order, sort of... I expressed that water was fine for me but my husband might like sparkling or clu... and he left before I could get the words out. He comes back with a tiny bottle of Perrier, saying that is all they have... and again he left... Points to note: It's lunchtime... The restaurant was not full... I was as always, extremely polite... but he was really pushing my limits. My husband came back and I said, "Babe, the waiter is beyond short and far past rude... I'm not willing to let you drop $100 for lunch to be treated as if we're second rate citizens." We got up and left. I walked down the street and asked for recommendations for lunch. I also wasn't surprised to hear that "Jean-Pierre's," was not only NOT recommended, but we were advised to steer clear. Three shops. Same comments. At 2:30 I returned and asked to speak with the manager. The Asian woman brusquely told me the manager was preparing to go home for the day and refused to inform them that I wanted to speak with them. We left again. I'm not sure how you survive in the high stakes of the restaurant business, with such disregard for your customers. We won't try again. But we will continue to tell others about our experience. The little Mexican Restaurant we finally settled on, was extremely welcoming. Thank goodness for options! read more

Stopped in while visiting Durango Colorado. We tired a few different pasties but nothing spectacular. Maybe it was a bad baking week not sure. The macarons were over baked, and the other parties we tried a little on the dry trying to remember the others we got. Service was great though, friendly and quick we got our pasties to go so didn't dine in so can't speak for dine in service. Ambiance was nice and they have a piano you can play. Jean-Pierre's made me like tomatoes. I have never liked tomatoes. I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich but asked them to hold the tomatoes. The chef brought us a complimentary shrimp tomato salad that he was considering putting on the menu, and the tomatoes were the most incredible thing I've ever had. They were so fresh, juicy, and delicious! The dressing had just the right amount of salt to complement the acid in the tomato. So, so far this review has only been about the free item we were given, but the rest of it was SO GOOD. I actually regretted NOT getting tomatoes on my breakfast sandwich and had to ask for them, so again, tomatoes = good. I can only assume this speaks to where they are getting their produce, and that all of their produce is as good. I did question whether a mimosa could ever be worth $15 and decided to risk it. As much as a mimosa can be worth $15, it was worth $15. Fresh squeezed orange juice, plenty of sparking deliciousness. Service was great. Seated immediately on a Saturday morning during Snowdown. Server was just personal enough, just attentive enough, not overly so. We really appreciated the chef coming to our table and checking in on us. Only tried the bakery dessert options so can't give any opinion on the food but the desserts were great. The chocolate macaron was the best macaron I've ever had and the meringue was delicious as well. The chocolate drop was mediocre so I'd avoid that but overall I enjoyed what I got. Very cute place like the atmosphere the coffee is so hot that it's burnt and I asked for sweet cream cheese croissant heated up and it's like it's cold in the center. Maybe this was yesterday pastries since I guess it was frozen before they tried to heat it up. Their menu is pretty poor this could be such a good brunch place but the menu is sub par. I guess they do more bar business at night than food. PS the menu price for French toast $21.00 plus tax and tip not worth it. Beautiful little bakery in this gorgeous quaint town. I was intrigued by the piano music I heard while walking down the street so I popped my head in and was enamored with the entire atmosphere. We had the pleasure of taking a tour of the bakery (located in another location nearby) and saw how everything was handmade. Went in with the hope of getting one of the lunch specials out front but they were only serving breakfast. Our waiter Victor was great and made some good recommendations. Both my wife and I had the breakfast sandwich on a croissant which was quite tasty. Came with fries which were not bad just not what we were expecting.
