This place has gone down the drain since COVID. Sandwiches are miniature and very overpriced for what you get, and the chicken tenders honestly provided a much better value and were the main thing that brought us here because they could be eaten with the great pickles. The inside is also very dirty and could use renovations and upkeep. The line system sucks and it took 35 minutes to get our food on a busy Sunday, which is not good for a place that specializes in pickups. read more

I've been going to Firehouse Deli since I was a kid (over 20 years). My family has a house nearby and I would stop by there everyone once in a while with my siblings. Recently, I would go there for a breakfast sandwich before heading into the city. Honestly the breakfast wrap I got this morning was the last straw. Supposedly an egg, cheese, sausage, avocado wrap, and I ordered it with no salsa. I ate it on the train and it didn't have half the ingredients I thought it would. I ordered it with no salsa, and the wrap was covered in it. No sausage or cheese, and the eggs were overcooked. Falling apart in my hands on the train. And the avocado was only on one side of the wrap. No salt and pepper either. I don't normally post reviews but this has been a consistent thing for years. The lunch sandwiches and soups have always been decent, but I won't be back for the one thing I used to buy at this establishment. The service has always been good, but the breakfast options need to have the same care as the lunch sandwiches they make. I can't speak for the basic egg and cheese breakfast options, but the cooks need to know the recipes and listen to adjustments as they come up. read more

Firehouse Deli is a delicatessen that opened in Fairfield, Connecticut in 1969. Located in Fairfield Center, the deli offers a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items seven days a week. Sandwiches and wraps dominate both menus. The deli has been voted "The Best Sandwiches & Salad Bar in Fairfield County", and a recent People Magazine article called them the "Best Sandwich in Connecticut". The deli is currently owned by restaurateur partners William Auer and Susan Dedrick. My family and I recently stopped at Firehouse Deli for lunch. We really liked the design motif of the place. Everything is painted a bright "fire engine red" and the interior is decorated from top to bottom with various fire department memorabilia. The place was packed when we arrived, but we soon learned that the line moves very quickly. My wife and I ordered and shared the "Sacred Heart Wrap" (warm chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, hot cherry peppers, Caesar dressing, tortilla) and the "Buffalo Soldier" (chicken cutlet, hot sauce, pepper jack cheese, blue cheese dressing, lettuce, hard roll). These were excellent deli sandwiches made with fresh, flavorful ingredients. For our young sons, we ordered off of the Kid's Menu. Our older son had the "Chicken Finger with Fries" while our younger son had the "Cheese Quesadilla". They were both happy with their food. Favorite deli in Fairfield for breakfast sandwiches. Def try the bacon/sausage egg and cheese on a Portuguese roll - and be sure to add hashbrowns ON the sandwich. Adds amazing flavor and texture, hands down the best in town. They also makes great sandwiches for lunch (love the Redgate) and they have my favorite salad bar with premium ingredients. I stopped by to pick up a couple of sandwiches for lunch. We ordered a Harlem Shuffle, a patty melt and a grilled cheese. With two drinks and a small bag of chips, it came out to about $40, which felt pretty steep, even for Fairfield. The sandwiches were fine, though the beef in the Harlem Shuffle was a little dry, and the sandwich was a mess to eat. The grilled cheese felt unimpressive for $8. The issue though is the service. I've come here a couple of times and every time it feels like they forget about my order. This time it took about 25 minutes to get my sandwiches, and I only got mine because I asked for an update on it because it was taking so long. No apology, no "thanks for waiting," none of that. Their ordering system breaks down when it gets busier. It also feels really cramped in there and gets legitimately hot inside, so you're standing there sweating while you wait. read more

Looking for a fresh turkey and swiss sandwich while running errands, I decided to try Firehouse Deli. The place is set up nice and has a great seating area in the back and outside too. Menus are prominently displayed with lots of options for breakfast and lunch. I was feeling good about my choice to try this place and ordered in house roasted turkey with swiss, mayo and lettuce on a hard roll. There was a steady stream of customers, but I noticed those who ordered after me were being called. Hmmm. Maybe they had a lot of call in orders ahead of mine? The girls working the counter saw me standing and waiting....and then proceeded to cut a cake behind the counter and eat it with their hands. WTH? I finally asked if there was a problem with my order as it had been over 10 mins. "Oh Denise? Here you go,"said the girl who had taken my order. It had been sitting on the counter the whole time. I left rather disgusted and annoyed only to find there was no mayo on the sandwich and it had tomato. Sloppy and unacceptable customer service and poor food safety protocols make me wonder what else is going on. $9.99 for a turkey and cheese sandwich which wasn't even correct? Great spot to get your lunch in Fairfield. Plenty of seating outside, and walking distance from a small park on a beautiful New England day. They menu has much to choose from, but so far all I have been ordering has been the Dan-O and a Oktoberfest. It can be a bit confusing for a newcomer. You order at the back, and pick up and pay in the front...or you pay first and pick up once your order is ready. It can become crowded it this old Fire House, but it's worth it. So I can say with all honesty that I have been going to this deli for over 25 years! Now I am not as local to the area as I once was but regardless of owner changes and the many years that have passed, the menu and sandwiches have stayed consistently good- for over 25 years.... now that is something to be proud of. I will also say that because I don't go here often and absolutely LOVE one sandwich that my order is relatively always the same- the New Yorker (roast beef, melted mozzarella, tomato, and mayo on a hard roll) simple, always made well, proportioned with ingredients, and hands down delicious. And I don't forget the Boar's Head monster pickle on the side either! Just because that is always my order doesn't mean there is not a TON of other choices.... there are. Over the years the menu has only gotten larger with specialty burger and hot dog choices as well. I can also say my other go to option is the salad bar which has also stayed relatively the same. Homemade dressings and tons of topping choices that you can make an awesome garbage salad. I say garbage with love as the more fixings the better in my eyes. The salad bar is always fully stocked and fresh! Firehouse deli is a classic and wonderful sandwich/lunch spot in Fairfield and has been for many many years. Although there's always a wait, Firehouse Deli's sandwiches are worth it. Their Fairfield U Panini comes hot, with crisp bacon and sweet chipotle mayo on perfectly toasted bread. The sandwich does skimp on the lunch meat, but is nonetheless delicious. The best side is the fries, which come incredibly hot and salty. Their grilled cheeses are cheesy and buttery. Great location in downtown Fairfield. But, the staff are unfriendly and unwelcoming. The place is dirty and oddly situated. Some sandwiches are terrible and others are just okay while all are subject to inflated prices. Super Awesome Deli with Great Free Pickles. I've been to this deli a bunch of times so it's overdue for a review. Honestly everything on the menu is a good choice and the staff is very friendly. Downtown Fairfield parking can be an issue but there is a large parking lot across the street so parking is never an issue with this place (problem solved). Some of my favorites sandiwches are the Dan-O, Momo Wrap, Steak & Cheese and the Susie Rubin. This time I got the Susie Rubin with Pastrami. It was incredible as always. If you haven't already been to Firehouse time to get in an check out the menu. They have a lot of choices and the Specials always rotate. Overall 4 Stars just because there are so many great Deli choices in the area and the standard is so high. But I do really really love this place and plan to be back many more times. read more

I hope everyone has been doing well. This is my first review in a while, but you better believe I was doing food reviews in my free time. Currently, I am in Fairfield, Connecticut for a business trip, so I decided to try some local eats. First off, this restaurant was immaculate. As soon as I walked into this crowded restaurant, I knew it had a shot at the glorified and prestigious Dan Hanis 5 Star Review. I ordered the Buffalo Soldier Sandwich, parmesan truffle fries, and candy berries. The Buffalo Solider was incredible and is one of the greatest things I've ever put in my mouth. This is by far the greatest buffalo chicken sandwich I've ever had. Additionally, the truffle fries were a great side. Not the best truffle fries I've ever had, but they were a great compliment to the spicy buffalo sandwich. I look forward to returning to Firehouse Deli and further exploring their menu. The food just isn't the same anymore. The last two times I went, there was barely any dressing on my sandwich. It's always busy (good for them!) but to the point that everything is erratic and rushed. Employees are rude 9 times out of 10. Guess with the volume they do, having people smile isn't high on their list of priorities. They add money to your order for using a credit card without telling you (then they point to a small note the size of my big toe by the register saying there is a fee). Thought that wasn't legal? Most places locally have offered a discount for paying in cash. read more

I was in the area for work and heard that the firehouse deli was a place I needed to go. I ordered the Arthur Ave. to go. I called in my order. The girl taking the orders was quick at taking my order and answered almost immediately. However, she was a bit dismissive and maybe overwhelmed? The call ended by her telling me my order would be ready in 5-10 minutes, I said thank you and she responded with "Yup" and hung up. They have a cute outdoor seating area as well as an indoor seating area. Both are on the smaller side but there was plenty of room to sit. The staff overall has a great system to get people's orders and have everything ready for check out both for in store, phone and online orders. The time they estimated on the phone was correct, which was very nice! Food is delicious and impeccably wrapped. They even have thick napkins which is unlike many "deli's". Overall, it's a must try if your in the area! Quick tip: there is a parking garage behind the deli that typically has available parking with no fee. read more

I ordered the Fairfield U Panini (very good) but the gentleman behind the counter didn't give me any napkins. I asked for some - then he asked, "how many napkins do you want?". Don't you normally just grab a couple napkins, shove it in the bag and call it a day? What kind of question is that? Does he think I'm a messy eater? Does he think I'm one of those - 'napkin hoarders'? I hope not. Luckily he gave me two napkins which was sufficient. Ballsy on his end but we made it work. UPDATE: I cannot believe this place does not have at least a four star rating. They are so good! So I have been coming here for years. While not a regular customer, I stop by when I can, usually for lunch. I have never had a bad meal here. They offer a pretty vast menu. I like their sandwiches and usually get potato chips with whatever I order. The place is bigger then it initially appears to be. If it is nice out, you can eat outside. You order at the counter. The only negative is that this place gets crowded and the lines con sometimes be a bit disorganized but they are so friendly and w arm here and very professional. You usually get your order in quickly. They serve burgers too. Now I am a very picky burger eater and I must say the burgers are really really good here. That is what I had last time I was here. Don't forget to get one of the giant cookies on your way out. I would recommend Firehouse Deli. It is a fun and family friendly little place that I have always enjoyed. read more

I called on 10/15 and ordered a fairfield U panini for pick up. The place looked very busy and Im guessing it was because 1. it was the weekend and 2. the harvest markets/dog parade was going on. But when I got home and opened this sandwich I was so upset. I come to firehouse deli AT LEAST once a week and I'm very loyal to their fairfield u panini (frankly, it's the only thing i get because it's SO good) . But i was very disappointed to see that I was given this. I get that they were busy but to think that THEY thought it was okay to give this to a customer is UNACCEPTABLE. Things happen, everyone knows that. The best option would have been to LET ME KNOW what had happened and I wouldn't have minded waiting for another one. I'd rather wait an additional 15 minutes than to pick on half of my sandwich trying to look for the hood parts to eat. HONESTY is key!! And as someone who has worked in a restaurant before : If you wouldn't eat it, then don't serve it to someone. I spent almost $12 on a sandwich (since I get xtra avocado) and I didn't even get to eat everything because my sandwich was BURNT (pictures attached). So disappointed..
