Popped in here while in the area as we needed a few sandwiches to go. We got there just before noon and it was so crowded. Thankfully there seem to be a method to the madness and we didn't have to wait too long. Lots of goodies as you would expect in a typical deli, but they had some unique sandwiches which sounded really interesting. I got an Italian style hero with lots of meats and banana peppers. It was delicious!The BLT was absolutely enormous, and I did not expect a triple-decker. Location was also super easy to find right off of Main Road in a strip with parking right outside. My husband grew up in West Port and he talks about these sandwiches so much! When we came back into town for his reunion, it was one of our first stops! He had not eaten here in years and was worried it would be different, but he was so happy the place was basically the same. We both loved our food, which was freshly prepared right in front of us. The grilled chicken here is especially tasty. There was plenty of seating and the restaurant was moderately busy (but not crowded). There was ample, free parking. My boyfriend has been eating here for 15 years, and according to him they have the best sandwiches in Westport, although gaetano's is a very close second. We LOVED the bacon egg and cheese. The price+Goodness ratio is very high. However my boyfriend's favorite is the chicken cutlet caprese sandwich! YUM. First time here , I figured I would grab some take out so I was off the hook for cooking dinner. We had chicken Parm grinders. They were good and flavorful but lacked enough sauce. Fortunas has always been solid. I grew up in westport so I can remember getting a bacon egg and cheese here as a kid, to sneaking out of staples to drive here for lunch to making this the go to spot whenever I was home for college and now I try everytime I am back home to at least stop in for a quick bite. The godfather is really good. If you are an "italian sub guy" try this, but its not for everyone if you dont like peppers and oil. Its funny I still rememeber my favorite things to get here are still the 42 with steak, 40 with steak extra mushroom, and the 33 with chicken cutlet. Not sure what they are called now since they switched up the menu but the steak subs are really really good there. Its like a classic NYC chopped cheese. The staff has changed a lot over the years. I have had a few days where my order has either been wrong or just not made well and thats always the worse. To be honest I stopped going here for a few years and swore by other spots, but my brother convinced me to give it another try and BOY WHAT WAS I MISSING OUT ON. I would kill to have a steak and cheese with onions mushroom teriyaki sauce and a side of mac and cheese overnighted to me in brooklyn. Its to die. They also have giffords ice cream here too which is like a new england chain of ice cream. The staff is really nice too they recognize all of the regulars and kids as they have grown up. The younger staff cycles through a little more often, but the Fortunas veterans are there to stay. When I played rugby in high school we got them to cater food before one of our games and they do a really good job making a nice filling loaded sandwich. read more

Shrinkflation has hit the deli. I just got a Godfather, something I've had for 20 years, but it should be called shredded lettuce and tomato with side of cold cuts. They increased price and downsized 25%. Never before have I been able to eat even 1/2 of a Godfather hero, but I ate almost the entire "hero." I love old Italian delis. I love finding a good chicken parm for my fiance because he loves it. I haven't succeeded in this...still. I can throw a chicken cutlet, some cheap store brand shredded cheese and bottled sauce on a regular grinder myself and if I really want to ruin it and turn it into mush, I can nuke it for way too long. My go-to Westport deli! Nothing but professional service and fresh quality meats which is honestly what I think makes or breaks a deli for me. They have a massive and super overwhelming menu, so if it's your first time visiting or it's been a while, I would definitely recommend peeking at their menu online before hand!! My favorite is The Godfather (ham, salami, prosciutto, pepperoni, capicola, provolone, LTO, & sweet peppers), but BEWARE of the sandwich coma you will enter after devouring this sub. As a vegetarian, it can be challenging to find a good deli spot. Fortuna's is my favorite and a must anytime I am in or near Westport. Not only do they offer a great sandwich but the hot bar is out of control. I am obsessed with the eggplant parm. Finished with a piece of banana bread from their bakery section, I am one happy camper. Not only is Fortuna's a deli, it is a market and it has everything. The place is run by a family and has a very genuine feel to it. I love going in not just for the food but for the outstanding service. This is a staple in Westport. Awfully mediocre. If Italian deli cant get chicken parm sandwich right - is it really an Italian deli. Chicken looked like it died of hepatitis, barely any sauce, barely any mozzarella. Garlic bread was bottom part of hard roll toasted in a panini press - that was interesting. Baked ziti special was actually boiled not baked. Chili was decent - right amount of spicy. We mistakingly ordered catering for a party at our house from Fortunas westport. We thought this was the Fortunas in Bridgeport. Much different. Will not make that mistake again. Ok food. I had the lasagna with a side of "meat balls" if you want to call them that. Lackluster at best.. Cheap on the lasagna portion, and the meat filling too. The balls were mostly bread. Tomato sauce very bland. Cheap prices, but the portions weren't what they were back in the old days when they had a place in Bridgeport in Brookside shopping center. Great deli. Always stop here before heading to beach for subs. The sesame seed sub rolls are delicious as are all there chicken cutlet sandwiches! I liked this deli for the most part plus its right across the street. I ordered the Healthy Tuna Wrap from there 2x and it was excellent both times. Today I ordered the same and the tuna DID NOT taste like solid white. The guy said he made it himself and he was certain it was solid white. FORTUNAS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO NOT DISPUTE ME AND OFFER TO REMAKE THE SANDWICH!!!!!!!! Well, one of two things---either the Tuna was NOT fresh or it was chunk light.
